Lovely little place to meet, have a walk around the fishing lakes and sit for food & drink. Great menu, very tasty & well presented. Varied choice & good value. Lots of places to sit outside and nice selection of ice cream flavours. Ordered sandwiches which were delicious served with lovely side salad, coleslaw & crisps. Open 10am -3pm daily & dog friendly.

I had high hopes for a trip out here however unfortunately it was absolutely not worth it. I encountered rude staff, awful coffee and ended up deciding not to order anything to eat even though it was lunch time. A proper barista would make such a big difference to this place, along with being made to feel welcome by the staff. I left without eating anything and went to the chippy on the way home. Such a shame.

Our family (2 adults and one toddler) went to the tea room following a recommendation for a coffee, ice cream and maybe a bit of lunch. Ultimately it was a disappointment. First things first, it is cash only. We had to transfer money to a personal bank account to pay our bill. This must happen all the time as they had a laminated card with the details on. Secondly, the latte’s we got were poor, bordering on shocking. It was absolutely blisteringly hot, and tasted like it was a very cheap sachet. I didn’t see it being made but my assumption is that it was just a sachet and steamed milk. I’m not exaggerating, it was still undrinkable after 20 minutes and that was a more to do with the temperature than the weak thin taste. We didn’t get any lunch because the menu wasn’t enticing at all, for example, one entry just said ‘toasties’ nothing more! The ice cream was good enough and the site itself in pleasant. But really, what put us off most of all were the staff. I don’t know if they had just had a bad day but (aside from the young girl) they all had faces like a bulldog licking a nettle. No smiles, no eye contact, we felt like total inconveniences rather than customers. The decor is pleasant enough and they have pretty crockery etc, if that’s of interest to anyone, but at no point did we feel like we were welcome or enticed to return. It’s a shame because it certainly felt busy enough with passing trade and it could be a great spot with the right ingredients, starting with a happy atmosphere. Maybe they don’t need to put any further effort in because they’re there and that’s enough, but it isn’t enough for me. After we left the cafe (with about 85% of both drinks left on the table) we ate our ice creams outside. If I were the owner I would have come out to understand why I hadn’t finished my drinks and if there was anything in particular wrong, maybe even offered a refund; but no, absolutely zero interaction. Total cost for two drinks, a toasted tea cake and 3 ice creams was just under £15.

Visited for the first tome today. I found the lady who took my order to be very unwelcoming. She never smiled once and it came across as if she couldn’t be bothered. My coffees and brownies came out first then I was waiting a long time after for my sandwiches and chips. I found it to be expensive for what you get. £15 for 2 brownies, 2 bland coffees that just tasted like warm water, 2 small bacon sandwiches with 1 piece of bacon on each and small portion of oven chips. I have given 2 stars for the brownies that were nice and the location Thats it’s in. The miserable rude staff are enough to stop me from returning.

We were spoilt for choice with all the beautiful cakes, I had the bakewell cake (my favourite since childhood) and it was the best i've ever had! My mum got the victoria sponge which was so tasty, and we took home some flapjack and carrot cake! What made this place extra special for me was their soya milk option which meant I could enjoy one of the lovely lattes, and I noticed they had gluten free cake options. We sat outside and will be coming here again! As I was off work I offered to take my mum and dad to Birkin as they’ve never been and I thought they were missing out.Firstly it’s set in a beautiful area with ample parking and views over their fishing lakes. Tables outside and in so weather depending you can take your choice. There isn’t a huge choice on the menu but that’s perfectly fine as what’s there is enough. The quality of the food is fantastic and the range of cakes is hopelessly tempting that I can’t help myself. We all had savoury but couldn’t turn down the scones with clotted cream or carrot cake. Beautiful. If you do visit ask to see the cakes and you’ll know what I mean!!If you’re in the area or fancy a ride out then I’d recommend you visit. Two little things to remember is they’re closed on Mondays and it’s a cash only place so no cards accepted.

We had a cake stand each with four small sandwiches, egg mayo, coronation chicken, ham and prawn. There was a bit of salad and a warm sausage roll. A large scone with jam and clotted cream was great and there were also three assorted cakes. We all enjoyed the food. The waitress popped over a couple of times to see if we needed anything. Saturday was another great example of what a fantastic cafe with fantastic people Birkin is. Having battled snow and wind on the bike I arrived after closing time whilst preparations were being made for a baby shower. None the less I was invited in and able to get homemade cake and a coffee. Nice to be asked if I wanted a “hot milky one” not some pretentious lattymuckyato from Costafewbucks. These guys mix pretty with practical, poetic with prosaic. Not many cafes where I would be equally happy to turn up in Lycra or treat my Mum. Well done Birkin, thanks again!

Stopped for a post-cycle tea & cake on a very cold/damp/mucky day. Lovely warm and inviting atmosphere inside. Even though we were a tad wet and filthy the staff made us welcome. Every table in the main section was taken by folk enjoying their meal. The bonus is that they have an extension on the side of the building which is a little more suited to how we were 'dressed' (as in covered in crap from the wintery roads). Went there for a lunch time catch up with friends , food was average but the waitress when we went to pay refused to take 2 old style pound coins which are still legal tender in any establishment till Sunday (and bankable in any Uk bank for a very long time) , I asked why and she couldn’t give an answer !! So a older lady who I believe to be 1 of the owners came out from the kitchen, I explained the dilemma and she agreed to take them . I paid said thank and left. As I approach my car the owner comes outs shouting Like a old fish wife at me saying I had made her waitress cry with my comment, which I said If she is going to refuse something she should have a reason for it and not just coz the till has a note on it !!! I explained I wouldn’t be back and actually only came coz my friends enjoy it there (god knows why) . I think the waitress in question needs to put a smile on her face anyway when serving customers her face was enough to turn the milk sour, and as for the other lady she needs a lesson in customer care . Won’t be setting foot over the door step again so rude !!!!!

Finally visited here on a unusually (for this summer)sunny afternoon!...We sat outside at one of the many tables. We were served at table by a very friendly young lady who took our order and very quickly brought our coffees soon followed by our sandwiches....BLT & Coronation chicken both on lovely nutty seeded bread (where do you get this?)with crisps & salad garnish!!Before we reluctantly left this lovely spot in the sunshine we visited the WC which is in a little 'shed' outside. Unfortunately as my mum is a wheelchair user this is where it became difficult as the facilities were cute but challenging & small with no grab rails. It was almost impossible to push her there on the hardcore chippings surface!!....a path of tarmac or flags is needed!!....Otherwise we enjoyed our visit and the food was lovely and reasonable ably priced.....

We had heard very good reports about this spot and we were not disappointed. It was a beautiful afternoon and both inside and outside were full of people enjoying both the weather and the food - both of which could not be bettered! The title 'Birkin Fisheries Tea Room' was a bit of a misnomer as we went for a fish and chip lunch only to discover that the 'fisheries' part meant that you could fish in the waters nearby, but fish and chips were the one thing (from a very extensive menu) that were not available. However, a cooked breakfast, soup, salads, sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold drinks were available and all at very reasonable prices. My friend had a beautiful 'Chinese' salmon salad whilst I had soup (leek and potato on this occasion) followed by a slice of 'Eton Mess' cake. We both had a pot of tea to complete the meal. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We shall definitely go again. It took us a little while to actually find the place - and even longer to get home but now we know where it is, it will not be long before we return!

We have visited the tea room frequently over a few years now.My mum and I came across it one day and decided to give it a try, this was when it was still just like a big summer house. I will always remember how we were greeted by the staff there on our first visit. The personal customer service was just as excellent then as to what it still is today. The lovely ladies there have catered for my fussy eating of likes, dislikes and food intolerances. They have also accommodated us whether we have come as a group of upto 12 of us or just 2 of us. We have seen the tea rooms extend over the years with the veranda and put additional outside seating too and now due to it popularity they have further extended the inside and still kept all it's original charm. The food whether it's a big breakfast, hot/cold sandwich, something on toast or just a slice of home made a cake and a pot of tea has always been prepared and delivered with excellent service and always a smile ☕️

Seems to be very popular off the back of the day time tearoom custom.First visit was as my family 2x2 at £15 each. Fixed menu, which is fine and at £15 didn't expect too much. Starter was fresh bread with olive oil and strangely balsamic glaze not balsamic vinegar, main dish was fish in a macadamia nut crust served on orzo pasta, which was good and desert was again basic small slice of lemon drizzle cake. Enjoyed it and there was plenty of profit in the menu. Second visit a few weeks later with a few of us from the village, now at an 33% increase in price, now at £20 per person was expecting a little more for my buck. It's not much I know, but it now competes with a lot of other places where I can choose my meal for the same money. Although I may not get 3 courses, I could have a really good starter and main or main and pudding. The second meal starter was a moroccan theme starting with falafel which was enjoyable and a main of Moroccan stew served a overcooked couscous and strangely unpeeled butternut squash, it was a disappointingly sized portion too, finished with small rhubarb crumble. Couldn't see the extra £5 and it was just tea (Yorkshire dinner) we do have better at home. Service is basic and sat with finished plates for a while, with no chance of the bill coming to the table. Once the foods done with, they don't come back and if I was asked if everything was ok I would have said.It was a good night, plenty of atmosphere and drink, great to be able to walk home.Take it as constructive criticism and don't be come victims of your own success.

Visited here on a lovely sunny day. We sat outside in the sunshine and ordered bacon sandwiches and cake, with coffee. Lovely laid back atmosphere. Cakes delicious and mouth watering bacon butties!

We had been told about this quaint and quirky cafe.It is set next to a fishing lake and very popular with cyclists and motor bikes. The wife and I had a full English while our daughter had a cream tea minus the tea and with a hot choc. All were absolutely fantastic.A word of warning they only accept cash no cards as they have no phone line being out in the sticks. But well worth the drive out.

Quirky tea shop, like the miss match furniture and crockery. Very busy, seating inside and out if weather permitting. Down side was the staff need to cheer up, could do with a personality software update - doesn't cost anything for manners. So won't be returning.

Since the weather has warmed back up we decided to visit the cafe again as there is lots of places to sit outside in the sun ! We arrived around 1pm and the place was buzzing , however there is plenty of off street parking with lots of room ( very handy getting my Grandma out of the car as could fully open the door ) We grabbed a table inside and were served very quickly by a friendly and polite waitress . The food came in reasonable time and served with a smile !. It is a very popular place which means its busy , but it doesn't effect the food or service time. Its has a great rustic vibe , with a shabby chic interior , its very picturesque and a real hidden gem. Lots of cyclist go here and its a great place to people watch but also everyone seems friendly and this time was no different, everyone seems to mingle and chat with each other so it creates a really pleasant atmosphere. Its a very relaxed place and its just nice to go to for simple food but great food . The stand out point to me again was the price, there is no where else to eat in the area, but instead of overcharging and exploiting the fact they keep prices very low. You can eat sandwich coffee and HOMEMADE cake for 8 pounds, and with the size of the pieces you can easily share ! This really is a hidden gem and worth the long drive for, be sure to take an extra piece home ! Yes the place was super busy but its busy for a reason !

This place gets rave reviews, I've visited twice, on the first occasion after recommendation from friends, I found the food drink and service to be very good, but the place is basically a shed with a plastic lean to attatched, the Toilet facilities, which are clean, are in another separate shed. There is also a selection of mismatched furniture outside should the weather be nice enough to sit out, it's all arranged around a small fishing lake... Yes it's quirky and that probably adds to the appeal for many but not for me... Not impressed! The second visit was more recently when out cycling on a Sunday my mate wanted to call in... Every cyclist in Yorkshire was there, and we would have had to wait ages to be served so we went elsewhere.. if you like sitting in a garden shed or a plastic greenhouse drinking tea this is the place for you. And if you don't like waiting don't go on a Sunday. The place obviously has its appeal to many, perhaps I'm missing something but it didn't do it for me.

Wow, what a lovely little place this is. A lovely warm welcome received. Very peaceful setting by the fishing lakes. Board with daily specials on it, had the lasagne followed by the blueberry and vanilla cake, both delicious. The place had a constant stream of visitors, it is decked out in quaint vintage style. Will definitely be back very soon, oh and don't forget your cash as there is no card machine facilities there!!

We are new to the area and kept seeing bikes go past talking about getting to the tea room, so one day we thought we would follow said bikes and we were not disappointed. The food was lovely and well presented but the best thing was the cake! The cake selection was great and you could tell this was really home cooked cake...The owners have done an amazing job and the atmosphere was lovely. We will be returning and cant wait for the weather to pick up so we can sit outside with the dogs and watch the world go by with tea and cake!

I was recommended this place to go for afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed. I took my mum and my 4 year old son for a Saturday afternoon treat. Freshly made finger sandwiches and home baked cakes - yum. I'm not a big tea drinker and they let me have a cappuccino instead of the pot of tea. My son was made up by the little glass bottle his water was served in. We will definitely return but maybe in summertime so we can sit outside and enjoy the countryside.

What a gold mine......I visited twice in two days. First having bacon n egg butties to die for. Did a dummy run with my hubby to see where it was. What a pleasant ride. Then on the Sunday six of us for afternoon tea. Celebrating a birthday. All I can say is the tea was exceptional. The place is quirky, clean, different and fun. Everyone is welcome and we certainly will be returning.

What a great addition to Birkin fisheries. Now every Wednesday evening. We had the set menu @ £15 pp & enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Now looking forward for our next visit later this month. Also it's bring your own alcohol which keeps the bill at a minimum. Well done to lilykate & team.

Firstly the location is perfect there is lots of parking and outside space ! Secondly the food is great, its simple quick and tasty. The best thing for me is the price, the food is very cheap for what you are getting and there is nothing that is overpriced. The cakes were all homemade and great size pieces ! The place does get a little busy as it is popular due to being good but its worth waiting 5 minutes for a table. I have had the regular food and also booked an afternoon tea which as perfect as a little treat.I can not recommend this more highly , you will struggle to get something at this quality in this price range !

My partner and I went out for a bike ride and came across this lovely little tea rooms tucked away in Birkin. The cake and drinks were lovely and the prices so reasonable. It was hardly surprising it was so full. Will definitely call again and perhaps have one of their full breakfast which looked delicious.

sadly disappointed with this venue The food was ok plenty of it Our biggest concern was it was so cold that we ate our lunch in our coats I know that energy bills are high at the moment...but some heating would of been nice....my phone suggested it was 13 degrees...im of the opinion if you are open for business then your customers should be happy with food....drinks....and warmth
