The George & Dragon in Selby

Went with friends for birthday celebration. Out of a party of 5. 2 of us ordered mixed grill. All food took an hour to come. Mixed grill was the smallest mixed grill and miserable looking we have ever seen. Consisted of a small piece of gammon and smallest steak ever seen. Few pieces of diced chicken. Egg cup full of salad and half a dozen chips and 1 cheap nasty sausage. None of the other meals were up to par. We was too late to order desserts as service was so slow.One of our party complained and nobody seemed to do anything about our issues. Cutlery was bought out to our table on a filthy dinner plate with dried on food stuck to it. We will definitely not return or recommend.

Stopped here midway through a longish journey. Welcome was extremely warm and the food was delicious. Good value for money and large portion sizes. Will definitely be saving it as a destination if we are ever in this part of the world again.

Fist time we have been here! I promise you will not be disappointed. Greeted by friendly staff and the food was delicious. Proper homemade pub grub!!! Complements to the chef!!! The manager Andy was a lovely bloke he came over and chatted when we had finished eating. The waitress was so nice she was always smiling and couldn’t do enough for you. Think we have found our main go too place. Will definitely be back! Can’t wait to sit in the beer garden in the summer. Thank you Kerry & family x

Food arrived and was clearly warmed up, hunters chicken was chunks of diced chicken and did not have any bacon on it. My wife asked for sauce but never got any. The chef was keen to finish his shift (immediately after our meals were served). Cost nearly £20 for 3 drinks.

Not visited this lovely country pub in years, seen some lovely photos off their great food, was not disappointed. Great selection of food on the menu, different days there are some promotional prices too. Freshly cooked to order, great service, attentive staff, adjed if everything was ik with our meals, which it was. Lovely welcome walking in, surrounding were beautiful, clean modern, great kids outdoor play area when the weather is good,

We had our table booked in advance for our meal, got taken to the table 20 minutes after our booking time and then ordered food not too long after. After we ordered, we waited.. and waited.. and waited. It took just over an hour for our food to arrive, yes we were a table of 9, but other tables had arrived after and left before we even got our food. The meal in itself was tasty, not the greatest but for the price I can't complain. The only other gripe I do have is that two of our parties meals weren't available so switched to another meal which was cheaper, no offer made to give back the monetary difference, it had to be asked for - their preferred payment method card but for refunds give you cash. Overall a standard evening let down by a very long wait, don't think we'll make the trip again

Came here whilst visiting friends and the food and desserts were excellent, great price and great sizes. I had the Yorkshire wrap with sausages, what a good plate of food. Enough for 2 people I’d say but I ate it all. Puddings were good too - crumble and cheesecake were enjoyed too. Kids meals were good too.

Spot on. Home made Yorkshire puddings. 2 different types of potato, 10 different types of vegetables. Everything hot and spot on. Very tasty.

Very poor service from staff. No welcome , a side order of food arrived when we had nearly finished the meal with no apology. Menus were not removed from the tables once we had ordered and instead they used them as placemats. No one came to ask if everything was ok with the meals. Food was ok but found it over priced for the portion sizes and service we received. Left feeling ripped off and we wont be visiting again.

This is the 2nd year we have met up with friends, prior to Christmas, for a 'get-together'. Pub is halfway for both parties so ideal meeting place. The food, once again was excellent, piping hot, good portion size & excellent value for money. The staff are very friendly & efficient - thank you for making it a special day.

Perfect atmosphere for couples / families looking for a quiet and comfortable pub with hearty and delicious food 👌🏻 As a vegetarian, I ordered the cauliflower and broccoli jalfrezi, and my partner ordered the salt and pepper battered chicken platter, and not only was the food absolutely delicious, but it's THE BEST pub food I have had in a loooooong time! Too stuffed to finish my meal, but the portions are definitely worth the price. Will be coming back again for sure 🙌🏻

One of the best pubs I've been in really nice owners and staff, and the food was great and a good portion too, if your ever close by and want a drink or bite to eat stop here you won't be disappointed.

Booked here for a Sunday carvery & definitely wasn’t disappointed the food was lovely, never seen as much vegetables on a carvery , the staff very welcoming, will definitely be visiting again.

We stayed 1night in 2 berth caravan, they happily let us park. Food drink and atmosphere great with nice friendly staff. Coors on draught was excellent as was the steak pie. Thanks again

With motorhome, stayed overnight in car park. Very handy stopover for m62. We had the evening meal. Good varied menu. Very nice and well cooked with great chips. Staff pleasant and friendly. I will definitely go there again when I am touring in that area. Thanks to all involved for making it a pleasant stay.

Been a while since we last visited and very quiet for a Saturday night, Guess this is the norm for pubs these days 😒

We went for tea last Friday, with our small dog. We've been before and the chips do not disappoint.....but everything else did on this visit, I'm afraid. My husband had burger and chips and I had "sizzling" beef and black bean with chips and rice! The burgers were overcooked, really dry, Coleslaw seemed to be the cheapest, supermarket bought and salad from the 70's. He enjoyed an extra side of onion rings. My beef was not sizzling at all. Not surprising really as it seemed like the beef you get out of a tin (lovely when camping, not when paying over a tenner for it!). I had to ask the server for a spoon so I could serve myself the beef - she was asked this previously when another customer had the same dish.....you'd think the spoon would have therefore been delivered with the meat plate ......... A server asked if the meal was OK, I said it is just OK.......she walked away.... Not sure what happened last Friday G & D, I know you can do better!

Excellent value food, lovely staff, lovely garden and a nice children's play area, we will definitely use again if in the area. Only downside they don't have any real ale

Ordered a meat pie from the menu, received a slice. Trouble with slices the whole dish sits under a heat lamp, consequently dried up and burnt crust. If we go again will not be ordering a pie. Menu needs rewording.

Excellent place good food good selection of beers and free stop over for campers

Stopped off for a bite to eat as we were passing through. Staff were fantastic and really helpful. Sat outside at garden tables and a brolly was put up due to sun being blazing. Nice garden, lovely balcony all with a kids play area that doesn't impose. Would recommend a stop here.

Great little pub/restaurant. Just off junction 34 M62 heading into Whitley. Had a Guinness and late lunch and it was great value and tasted fantastic 😋 I had a giant Yorkshire pud with sausage and veg.

Loved this pub bit in need of a re -furb but really lovely place great garden for children and dog friendly. We stayed overnight in our motorhome. Thank you to the landlord and staff for being very welcoming and the food was delicious. Hope to call back in the near future.

They did a great job working my party of 6 in. The pies, chips and mushy peas were outstanding. Recommend for the food!

Great carvery after a day at the races

Had beef Yorkshire pub the beef tasted like it was out of a Tin the salt had brown bits inside the fish looked like it was run over it was that skinny the coke was flat by time food come the lights had cobwebs all over them and the staff did not look like staff as was not in uniform they looked like they just been pick up of the street there was a man working round with his crusty toes out think he was the manger never Again will i step foot in there horrible

Stopped off for a bit of Sunday lunch, but they stop the carvery at 3 pm and start with bar meals at 4 pm. Waited for 10 mins till 400 and ordered sausage, mash, and giant Yorkshire puddingas well as lamb pie. Took a while due them to come, but the menu says everything is fresh cooked, so that was OK. Food was large portions that was good value for money and then some dessert for afters. I can recommend the cheesecake and the apple pie with custard.

Called in for a drink on our travels. OK place not brilliant. Very quiet. Went to ladies loos....like something back in the 1960s. Need modernising. Probably won't go back again.

Been visiting here a number of years and have recently been disappointed with the food and the service. They say on the phone line that they are open for food until 8:45pm on a Saturday eve. We got there at approx 8:25pm with another 20 mins spare to order food. There was only 4 people in the pub and was approached by a woman when we walked in who asked if we wanted food. I says yes and she politely said no, we have Closed early (8:30pm) as they weren’t busy. I said but it says 8:45pm when you call up on the automated service. She said I know. That was that. No offer of any service,drinks, just felt like they wanted to get home early. Won’t be in a rush to go again. We went somewhere else who happily stayed open for food for five minutes Extra so we could order main courses and deserts. We spent £85 at the place that helped feed us. Sooooo big mistake George!

Stopped here for a pint as the A1 was blocked and we were trying to get back home. Nice little pub with country views from the rear. Only had one pint so can't read comment an my apart from the fact that the owner was friendly and the beer wasn't reasonably priced for a country pub.

I would give it 2.5 stars as my husband’s meal Hunters chicken was lovely. My haddock and chips was so well done I tried to cut it and the batter just shattered. Not sure what else to say. The haddock was brown.

Fantastic and friendly service. Unbelievable value on the Sunday Roast, 3 kids and 3 adults ate very large portions and drinks, for £70. Unreal Next time we are down visiting family again, we will absolutely be back.

Came today for a carvery. I’d never been here before but other members of our party had and rated the food then. We all had the carvery, it was beautiful and fresh. The Turkey was beautiful and the yorkshires were huge. Lots of choice too and a great price. It had a massive beer garden/play area which is brilliant. Would definitely return here again

Came here on accident, not sure if it was just an off day but the Sunday carvery was rubbish. The food was a sea of grey. Meat very fatty, server was unclean, carrots dry, roast potatoes looked like they were microwave ones Yorkshire pudding tasted strange. But service was good, parking good. Maybe an off day but I don’t think I’ll ever go back.

We popped in last night for dinner and drinks. The service was friendly and the food was fresh and delicious - home made pie and crisp fried fish. And it’s been years since I’ve eaten home cut chips - lovely.

Popped in here with a friend for lunch. I am Gluten Free and it was great to find an extensive GF menu. I narrowed it down to beef in blackbean sauce as normally cannot have chinese. The service is very good, nice atmosphere and they have a great terrace and large beer garden. Loved it so much I was back a week later with the other half on our way back from York. Had the GF steak pie oh my heavenly 😋 just wished I could have managed a pud. Next time tho as we will be back. Highly highly recommended.

Just called in for a meal at George and dragon. Ordered chicken tikka masala it was a disgrace. This meal was a Aldi warm up job costing £13.50 with pappadums. Obviously no chef on site, just a fool who can use a microwave. Everybody’s struggling at the moment and to be blatantly ripped off is annoying. I can say without doubt that was the worst meal I’ve ever had. I heard the staff saying all the meal are precooked and put into tuba ware containers months in advance.

Not been here for a while but wow the food was delicious and piping hot when it arrived at the table. We will be back again very soon.

Popped in for carvery. Sadly not enough food for passing trade due to bookings. Looked a wonderful pub, but never got to try it.

The food is to die for, whether your having a fancy sizzler or good ols fashion pub grub like pie and chips. The prices are extremely competitive for the local area as well. Would highly recommend a visit

So I'd just like to start this of with at one point G&D was a nice place to go to as food prices were reasonable and the food was nice. Now time for the last two visits up, 2nd to last time up, I ordered a chicken burger, which had to be sent back as it was thin, leathery and dry. I was offered a refund, a different meal or the same meal but was told that if I ordered the chicken burger again it would come out exactly the same way as that is how the chef likes to cook it. At this point it was too late to order someone else as everyone was half way through there meal. Now to the most recent time, I was poured a pint out of bottle where the bar tender had to leave the pint to settle and do other jobs as it had been poured so badly it was half head and half drink, it was a tad flat but still drinkable. I have to say my main course was nice and everyone else's look nice aswell. Upon going outside for a cig break, staff were seen going into the walk in freezer outside and there must have been at least 100-200 meals in tuppa ware containers on the shelves (don't expect your food to be freshly cooked). I then ordered a second pint from the draft this time (£4.50/£5 for a stella is ridiculous) which was so flat you could have rested a spirit level on it. To top of the night we stepped out side and sat on the benches to let the kids play on the park and all i can say is have a look at the pictures, as a patron you shouldn't have to risk assess a play park for your children to use but that play ground needs condemming.

We drive past this pub nearly everyday and thought it was time to pay it a visit for our evening meal. Our only disappointment was that we haven't been sooner. There was a nice atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and polite and to top it all, the food was excellent. We had to wait around 40 minutes, but well worth the wait. We will definitely be back again, I even know what I'm going to order.

New to the area, and I can see us coming here regularly during the warmer weather. A nice little stop off for the kids to have an ice cream whilst burning off some energy in the garden. We did stay for food, the menu has a good choice with different offers daily. The kids menu has a good variety of options, and it's all reasonably priced. However, it didn't win us over. The staff are really what make this place, friendly, accommodating, outstanding customer service! My only other whinge is the play equipment for the kids. It's badly in need of updating/ replacing. The majority of it was broken, and the wood rotten and looked unsafe in places! Broken swings and a collapsed broken table, really let's such a great place down. Otherwise, I'd of given 5*.

Being a Southerner this is the first time that I've had a proper Gluten-Free Yorkshire Pudding with pulled pork and gravy! Oh it was huge and really tasty! I tried to eat it all but just couldn't manage it! Top Marks to the Chef! Thanks for having such a fabulous Gluten-Free menu! - I will definitely be back!!

Visited twice in last 2 weeks during camper-van tour. Lovely pub serving great food and drinks at very reasonable prices, staff very friendly. They allowed us to park up overnight in their car park. We are there on both visits and had a couple of drinks very nice. Fully recommend if you’re visiting this way or on a motorhome/ camper van road trip and need somewhere to stop off for a night this is the place. Thank you

Nice pub called in for a drink didn’t eat . Sat next to the fire . 1 down side drinks are expensive 7 pounds for a pint of cider is excessive.

Been here several times and the food has always been fantastic. The 2 for £10 on a Tuesday and Thursday is fantastic value and is also very good food.

Very well set out inside so you can social distance and a good selection of lovely food on the menu , with helpful friendly staff

Called here at lunchtime on the way back to York after an appointment in Doncaster. Didn’t know what to expect as it was over 10 years ago I’d last been in here. What a lovely surprise. Great food - my husband is still talking about his giant Yorkshire pud - and my vege lasagne seemed homemade. Unbelievably cheap too! Great place and we’ll most certainly be back when we do that route.

Great place to visit either at lunchtime or evening. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food is very reasonably priced and good quality too. Car parking is very good and this is a great place to stop at during a trip out. It's a no fuss, no problem pub which is comfortable and friendly. Very relaxing indeed.

Visited on Thursday between christmas and New Year .The food was very hot , tasty andcexcellent value for money.Would reccomend this pub to anyone .
