Just enjoyed brunch at the Orangery with my 6 year old daughter. Crispy bacon roll for her, eggs Benedict for me, and then homemade cakes and scones. Really pleasant atmosphere, food was great, very reasonable and friendly service. Can't believe it took me so long to try it.

Original plans were to go to the vets up the road, but saw this venue on route and thought to pop in for a coffee. After looking at the menu, we decided to eat, what a fabulous decision that was! Meal was beautifully presented, with good portion sizes, and even for myself (gluten free) which they adapted meals for me! Staff was so friendly and very helpful! We will definitely be back! Thank you all staff, even kitchen, for been so helpful, friendly and providing a TOP service!

We visited the cafe today on our club bike ride and were warmly welcomed by the staff, who kindly pointed us in the direction of our reserved table. Once we had settled down and had chance to look over their varied breakfast menu a member of staff came over to take our order. Drinks came along not long after ordering, followed by food a little while after. Almost all of our group had something different off the menu and it was enjoyed by all. Staff were attentive and helpful. We will definitely be back. Recommend booking in advance if there is a large group of you.

This little gem is in lovely surroundings I visited with a friend and sat in the Tea Room the food was lovely, it is small but quaint. I visited on another occasion with family and sat in the Pit stop which is ideal if you have small children as there are toys and books to keep them occupied while they are waiting for their food. The cafe and Pit stop are completely separate so if you dont want children running about you go into the Tea Room if you have children, enjoy a coffee in the Pit stop while they play.

Called in for a late lunch as I work in the area and many other cafes are shut by 2pm. The service was quick and the waitress freindly (George or Jo). Had a tuna sandwich which came with a side salad and chips/crisps. All very tasty and it was obvious that good quality ingredients had been used. The coffe was excellent and served in a nice big cup, not the usual thimble full most places of this type give you. Not a cheap cafe but it is quality. The cafe itself is in what looks like an old small manor house and is a very attractive and nice place to be.

I had arranged to meet 2 friends here and this was my first visit. I arrived before my friends and sat for 15 minutes in the family area without a single member of staff approaching. I assume that if you sit in that area you have to go get served yourself? When my friends arrived we moved into the main cafe room. There were only 2 tables filled and a couple of staff there. We sat for another 10/15 minutes before we had to go find menus for ourselves and it was on the 45 minute mark someone actually approached to take our order. After placing our order, a salad and a couple of portions of halloumi fries and drinks we sat and waited. Another 15 minutes, with no drinks for the waitress to then come and say they had no halloumi. We were in there an hour, in a very quiet cafe and didn't even manage to get a drink. Cannot comment on the quality of the food as the service was so poor. Went to Lumby Garden Centre, not as pretty surroundings but great food and cracking service.

We recently visited The Orangery and can say without second thought what a lovely place this is! Set in lovely grounds the staff were very welcoming and with a childrens play area it also catered for our grandson. There are a range of toys for toddlers and plenty of room to sit and relax. There is a main café style restaurant but then also a quieter area set within the conservatory. We had a late breakfast there which was very nice, very nice quality food. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We would definetly recommend this as a place to visit

I met my friend here for lunch, the food came and looked really nice, I ordered the quiche Louraine which was tasteless and my friend ordered the eggs Royale which she has to send back as the eggs were raw, they brought her some more but unfortunately they were the same, when she complained she was told it was just the water from cooking but that clearly wasn’t the case, as soon as she cut into them all the raw white came running out. We were planning on finishing with coffee and cake but after seeing a little girl (who I think was the daughter of one of the waitresses) open the cake cabinet and touching all the cakes we decided to give it a miss!! Overall this was a very disappointing experience which is a shame as the surroundings are lovely.

We visited for the first time for breakfast, and whilst the setting is quite beautiful in the grounds of Lumby hall (with lots of parking, which is a plus) the food was a disappointment. We all had the full breakfast but the quality of the food was nothing special, particularly the sausages which were lacking in meat content and tasted (and smelt) fried. If they are presumably trying to give an upmarket feel to the place they need to match that by using quality ingredients.

Wanted to take my in-laws for a nice lunch - this really didn’t happen here. 2 out of 4 menus were different. Dirty cutlery and cloudy water glasses. 2 items ordered were not available. We were seated at 1.30 first 2 orders arrived at 2.15 other 2 orders 15 minutes later. Vegetarian panini consisted of 2 slices of mozzarella, 4 leaves of spinach, 2 slices of raw tomato, 2 bits (not slices) of red pepper. Dishes not cleared, dessert not offered so we gave up and went down the road to the garden centre and had a delicious slices of cake and a coffee each.

Beautiful setting, great menu choice and a lunch, breakfast menu that runs all day. Lots of seating in and out. Plenty parking. Staff are amazing, very helpful and friendly. We went on bicycles and lots of room for them. Able to reserve a table ahead. The staff here deserve the cafe to be a success. I visit a lot of cafes on my travels with my bike but this is now my favourite. Spotlessly clean, lots of room, children friendly with a kids play area.

Took my daughter and niece today having seen reviews over the last few months, when visiting my parents. We all had cakes and drinks. Girls impressed by the milk bottles with flamingo straws and I thought the coffee was lovely. Cakes were gorgeous and prices were good. £14 for the 3 of us. Toilets extremely clean too! Staff friendly especially the lady who said she was the new cook as they are under new management. I would definitely return, possibly to try the aft tea, as note they have disabled parking so can potentially bring my 93 year old grandmother!! Only thing I felt was missing was something play wise for an 8 and 10 year old. Would have liked a swing and slide outside or some inside crafts as the toys were targeted at littles. My two took their own weaving looms and happily crafted for an hour however!

My husband and I visited at lunch time with our daughter and her family. I ordered a prawn salad which was horrible - the prawns were rubbery and completely tasteless, as if they had been kept in the freezer too long and run under the tap to defrost. I covered them in the dressing provided but that didn't help. The salad leaves and beetroot were fine, but the coleslaw was not pleasant. Grandson's child's burger was very dense and dry and he wouldn't eat it. The other meals were OK, nothing special, but all in all this was a rather disappointing visit as we had high hopes as this is a lovely property.

This is a café that is effectively in the grounds of a big house in part of a greenhouse and part of an enormous converted garage. The garden is lovely. The coffee and cakes were nice. We wanted somewhere special for an English, Australian and New Zealand family reunion and Lumby Hall ticked all of the boxes. We booked this lovely home from Australia and you can imagine just how wonderful our surprise was when we arrived. Racheal who greeted us was such a lovey person to deal with and anything we needed, if at all was not a problem. We met Liam the owner who graciously gave us the history of the home, how amazing. The beds and pillows were soooo comfy and as we stayed 5 nights we had 5 blissful nights. Lumby has a cafe attached and the food is wonderful and the staff at the cafe were amazing, we had them cater our family dinner and the all important family reunion lunch, Wow, the food was so impressive and they looked after our dietary requirements, I felt very special. We just love the staff at the cafe

Visited on a Friday morning with a friend and our kids. Didn’t know what to expect as there was very little online info but we thought we’d check it out as there’s not much family friendly stuff in the area. The staff that greeted us were very friendly and the male behind the bar was very nice and helpful. A bit of a strange place tbh, to definitely quirky, not sure if it works, a bar through to a conservatory with a baby / toddler area through glass doors with miss match furniture. We looked through the menus whilst the kids played and a few things hit us - the price!!! £3 + for a coffee. £5 for kids food. This is MUCH more expensive than a lot of places in the area and I don’t know how many mums can afford to drink a few coffees at this price whilst the kids play. I had the tea and although again pricey, was very nice. The food was also on the steep side however was delicious, although could have been warmer. The kids food was brought out first which I always remember as so many family friendly places don’t do this when you are sat with hungry toddlers! The other two things that got me was two kids menus on a number of tables with different prices, and being told how much to spend on the bottom of the kids menu!!! I couldn’t believe this and found it so rude! A simple request to purchase food and /or drink would have sufficed. If you want an amount for adults coming to let kids play, then charge them, don’t advertise a ‘free’ play area then tell someone how much to spend. The toilets were great, clean and spacious. The play area however was a bit hit and miss, lots of toys for under 2’s / crawling babies but past this age not very much, and all tossed into big tubs. The doors throughout were open and we were forever chasing out after our kids as were others, some type of playpen gate would be a good addition. We noticed on leaving the kids clothes were mucky and had a grease like stain on both shoes from crawling around which wasn’t nice considering my baby had been crawling around. The outside ‘play area’ is more a garden, a climbing frame would be a great addition. Lots of potential, but given the price (spent £15 on lunch for myself and toddler) it won’t be a place I frequently visit I’m afraid, but with a bit more focus on which way it wants to go and some work dedicating it I.e. for kids or adults and investment towards it, could be a great place.

We visited The Orangery for breakfast with family who had stayed overnight. We had heard that it had recently changed hands and as we try to support as,many local businesses as possible we thought we would give it a whirl. The conservatory room was lovely and the waitress was really pleasant and accommodating. We placed our order for food and drink, unfortunately when the breakfasts arrived mine had been missed. The waitress was extremely apologetic and I chose an alternative from the menu. It wasn't a big issue - mistakes happen but we weren't charged for my breakfast or drink. We all loved what we had ordered and we would definitely recommend it. We'll be back!!

Really disappointed. With the name ‘The Orangery’ you imagine a beautiful upmarket venue. And don’t get me wrong the outside is picture perfect, however the inside is a huge let down. Stuff all over, overflowing bin in the toilets, boxes if nappies laying around. Service was slow and disorganised. Food was average. No chips available and no alternative offered. Had to chase the bill as no one seemed bothered. When my father went to pay he didn’t get and ‘please’ or ‘thankyou’ s surely manners should be standard?

Came here as an alternative to a full Sunday lunch. There were a good range of savoury options as well as homemade cakes. We tried the breakfast rosti, eggs Benedict and fish cakes. All were tasty, good portions and reasonably priced at around £8 each. I hate giving a poor review to small enterprises who are trying to make a living but this cafe really needs a shake up. I sought this lovely sounding place for a nice adult light lunch in a lovely setting. What we experienced was a mad hole. The cafe was away from the melee of a baby cafe but the noise, the poor service and the stinky toilets were beyond compare to any of the surrounding coffee/ tea farm shops. It was disappointing to say the least and the experience of dread grew as we saw confusion and disorganisation with staff and owner/manager unfold infront of our eyes. The food when it arrived was tasty and the only redeeming factor, but with only one chef working and no one expediting orders, we waited 25 minutes for a sandwich and had to ask about the order. We took our cakes home as we had been over an hour in this place for our sandwich and tea. If you like an adult experience without screaming and boisterous childplay, avoid this place. I'm sure all the Mums and kids in the cafe had a great time and that part or the cafe was very busy. The Ladies toilets were extremely stinky and smelly from spent disposable nappies and with only a curtain separating the toilets from the main hall was a huge minus. The entrance greets you with a closed Champagne bar ??? and in the adult cafe area with a Gin Afternoon menu on the table. The Baby Cafe was behind a glass screen and most of the tables had been used or were in use and nit cleared. You have to book if you would like a cream tea. It begs the question "why put it on the menu??" I feel there is a crisis of identity here. The food is good but other elements are constraining this small retail cafe business. Decide if you are going to be solely child- orientated or pay more careful attention to your adult customers and the ambiance and manage the noise levels to engender a cosy and contemporary cafe. There are local farmshop cafes who have got it right and make a good living. Go mystery shopping and take a leaf out if their book! Sorry I can't recommend you.

As soon as I walked in I didn’t feel there was a great atmosphere, however there was a nice play area so thought we’d give it a go. I asked for a table near the play area - all tables were reserved so told we could go and use the settees inside the play bit. I didn’t really fancy eating my breakfast on my knee so I asked if we could sit in the orangery part with a high chair. I was very abruptly told all the high chairs we reserved for a party at 11.30 (it was at 10.15 when I asked) and they only had 6 so I couldn’t use one!

Beautiful setting, shame about the unwelcoming host who never smiled and almost appeared annoyed that she had customers!. She could learn some basic hosting skills from her very happy and polite waiter who was very attentive. This was my 2nd visit for breakfast (thought I'd give it another chance) but our breakfasts were all very poor and on a comparable price to more upmarket city establishments, just not in their league. I always like to support local businesses, (it's in my interest to have nice places on my door step) but I'm sorry, they haven't nailed it yet! I am a care worker and i take people out on social calls. I went to the Orangery this morning despite reading some very poor reviews. I had a client that uses a wheelchair so went through the gate to the disabled parking area. Not much room there but we got tucked in. There is thick gravel which makes access very difficult for wheelchairs but again it was only a short distance to the flagged area to the door so no probs. A very pleasant young lady greeted us and made room for us to get the wheelchair in. The decor was lovely. We had tea/coffee and my client had a jam and cream scone. The scone was fresh and was served warm. My client enjoyed it very much and our drinks were lovely and hot. I got 3 good size cups of tea out of one pot so plenty. When we got up to leave we paid and had a little peep at a fabulous childrens play area. A gentleman said he would open the large glass doors for us if we would like in order to make it easier for the wheelchair. Staff couldnt have been more pleasant and helpful. We had my 3 yr old with us so we went into the 'kids' play area. If you have under 5's this is a great place for them and you. Loads of kids toys to keep them busy while you can enjoy a catch up, coffee and food. Ample seating, highchairs etc.

After reading some poor reviews on here, I would like to review our experience of this restaurant yesterday. We had the best afternoon tea we've ever had. The food and service were absolutely spot on. I would recommend it to anyone. We had a wander down to the child's play area too. I only wish my children were younger so that they could enjoy it. It looks amazing with so much space, and so many lovely toys for children to enjoy, and a lovely area for mum's to relax and enjoy a coffee or two. Will definately be back :)

Its such a shame and I really hope the owners take heed of reviews as this place could be a wee goldmine. The coffee and tea is really lovely. Sadly, this visit has put us off. We ordered breakfast which is an all day breakfast and we arrived around lunchtime. The breakfasts arrived and had obviously been prepared sometime before, the sausages were hard and appeared to have been reheated. The potato rosti had been cooked sometime earlier and then reheated and was totally burnt underneath (the rosti is a full meal with toppings), I had to send it back as it was really unpalatable. I got a fresh one but by this time my husband had finished his meal some time before. We asked for the bill and it took 23 minutes before we had to ask a second time (it was around 20 minutes to get the bill last time too), just one young girl serving. I was really surprised there was no apology over the meal we had to return and not even a discount like a free coffee.

My husband and I had planned a visit to this “jewel” for quite some time and eventually managed to visit on a Saturday lunch time. Our order was taken which was a full English breakfast a slice of cake and two lattes. Our coffees arrived but sadly nothing else! Two couples arrived soon after us and when the second couple were served their food my husband asked if we had been forgotten. With a puzzled expression the waitress asked what we had ordered and went to check which of course was that our order had never been given to the chef. We chose to leave as you can imagine our disgust and as an apology we didn’t have to pay for our coffees. I could never recommend this place my only advice would be Do Not Go.

Local to the area my family and I have wanted to try this place for some time. Unfortunately almost every aspect of our visit was awful. The place has a great space for kids separate from the main restaurant - however this is the only positive I can find. Felt very unwelcome from the start, the place was cold, waited about half an hour before we were asked what we would like to eat / drink, then another age to be given anything to drink. As far as I could see there was no reason for this delay as the place was not busy. What I ordered was not available so chose an alternative - basically cheese on toast.....however this seemed to be beyond the chef’s abilities. My family were given their food - I was given nothing - the waitress told me she had sent the chef’s first attempt at cheese on toast back as she was not happy with it....another 10 minutes pass (family have finished their food) and I am presented with what the waitress apologetically referred to as cheese on toast.....suffice to say i declined to eat it and we left. Waitress didn’t charge as for our coffee as a token....

I know it was a bit late in the afternoon when we went 3pm. But first impression was not a very good welcome and didn’t seem very friendly. We ordered 2 hot chocolates were not asked for any extras and at £3 a cup we were expecting a frothy chocolate drink, wrong it was like dishwater when we asked for more chocolate was told it came in sachets given the cup was large my feelings were it should have had two sachets, anyway we were offered some chocolate sprinkles which did improve the taste a little, very disappointed we’ve had a better hot chocolate in our local cafe cheaper too. I’m afraid we will not be returning.

Called into the Orangery on Saturday 14/4/18. I ordered the lighter breakfast which is served all day, it was around 2.30pm. The service was excellent and the breakfast was just gorgeous. Lovely bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, tomato, toast and a choice of egg. Served beautifully by very attentive staff. The price was fantastic, just think of the chains that charge £4 for a chocolate muffin. Overall a lovely afternoon in a nice setting. I would recommend and will be back soon.

Came in for a bite to eat with my friend and both our children as I had heard that this was a great place for kids and parents alike to enjoy. Lovely atmosphere, great service, great food and absolutely brilliant for the children. Can't believe this has been literally on my doorstep for months now without me visiting. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to all my yummy mummy friends!!! Great work guys and thank you

We have visited this place a few times now due to living locally. It's the only place to offer nice breakfast in the vicinity... The food is always OK. I can't help but feel like this place lacks a little finesse, I feel like this could really be the making of it!

This place is lovely, only small but nice atmosphere. The breakfasts are lovely, can highly recommend the amazing Rosti. Coffee is really good and a huge pot of tea for one with tea leaves and strainer - felt a bit like stepping back in time. I would like to be the afternoon teas (need to be booked 24hrs in advance) would be spectacular. We had a little bit of a wait for the bill but they were short staffed with only one waitress but it was ok, we were kept toasty by the huge radiators.

This little Orangery is a gem set near the delightful village of Lumby. The coffee was very good and the bacon rolls were tasty and well filled. The art on the wall is extremely good and well priced. The staff polite, helpful. The service 5 minutes too slow. The eating area was cosy & warm but a little noisy due to the acoustics and not enough soft furnishings. I will tell my friends to pay a visit. Good luck with your venture.

I visited today with my mother and father in law. I have been wanting to try the orangery for a while and when they asked if I wanted to go for lunch I thought it wood be the perfect chance to try it! I got in touch reserve a table and ask if I could bring my puppy in his crate (he is only 8 weeks) they were more than accommodating to help me with my situation as I wanted to have him close by so I could check on him but not actually bring him inside. When I arrived we had a bit of trouble parking but that was due to the amount of cars there (which to me is a good sign as it was busy) so I think it would be good if there were more parking eventually.

A scrumptious, well presented meal, served with a smile despite being extremely busy. The slow cooked Beef with green beans was succulent and the Rhubarb and Ginger pudding was so good on a cold day that even the person in the party who doesn’t usually like desserts was impressed. The afternoon teas looked fantastic - will be going back to try. We have already booked for Mother’s Day.

My husband and I visited the Orangery today with our 8 month old son. We sat in the children’s area which was brilliant, our son could play within view of our table while we enjoyed our food. We loved all the little touches that this venue has thought of for guests with kids - microwave for heating baby food, a small cot for young babies, DVD player with kids shows, great baby change facilities.

All dietary requirments catered for nothing being too much trouble, cannot understand where the bad reviews have come from as we had a wonderful afternoon. Would definitely recommend!!

I attended my daughters baby shower organised by her friend. She booked 15 guests in to take part. We were given menu's to look at but were then told we could only have the afternoon tea as they had been pre-made. We were never given a choice of food. My youngest daughter is disabled and no way would she eat a grown up afternoon tea, as she only eats the savouries. The owner was quite rude and abrupt to some of us . She had the organiser in floods of tears. She never once asked about dietrary needs, although one of our party was celiac and couldn't have wheat. The venue was lovely but had no heating on and was cold. Out of the 15 people there we had 12 afternoon teas . The owner then said we had to pay for the rest of the food even though we had not had it. We ended up under-paying the bill by £25. On the way out we were sworn at and the door shut with a bang. Clearly she needs to undergo some basic customer training. I don't think I would visit again, was a bitter experience

we attended my cousins baby shower on Sunday, we was all looking forward to the afternoon as a family gathering this was soon shattered as soon as we got there the atmosphere had already been ruined by the women running it. as soon as we sat down we was looking what to order as we had been given a menu one of the party informed us we had to have afternoon tea, this was not booked I informed the lady that us 3 would not be having the afternoon tea, reasons given, she then snapped at me saying "well your still paying for it I have been here since 8am this morning making them!" she them stormed over to the table to again inform everyone of this, I didn't even want to order of the other menu after this as I felt totally uncomfortable, throughout the day she was so rude and reduced one of the party to tears trying to blame her for the day.(the owner also informed us that she had this same problem with the baby shower the day before how professional) The afternoon was tense and put a downer on the whole day which is a real shame as the venue is beautiful!

What a lovely tea room. Staff exceptionally friendly and curteous, very attentive nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. I am disabled and was treated with care so very kind and helpful. The food we had was delicious went down very well as did the cappuccino's. We saw the afternoon tea's being brought out and they looked scrummy . Will be having them next time. We had a lovely afternoon and can't wait to return. I would definitely recommend this place.

I have to say i have never put a negative feedback on trip advisor and actually struggled with down loading the app ( that’s how much I complain ) however I would like to express how deeply sad it is to have attended my beautiful friends baby shower on Saturday! What should have been one of the most exciting and special most memorable days of our mum to be life was totally ruined by the horrendous service we received, having read previous reviews I won’t go into too much detail as most of our experience is mirrored by the several reviews previously! But we too were snapped at , eyes rolled when anyone asked for anything , mum to be asked for a knife to cut her cake and was huffed the lady marched off and presented her with a knife as in knife and fork style not a big enough to cut a large cake ! Any way she was over heard slagging guests off ! One comment was “ oh n now she decides she wants to cut the cake “! “ that one there is rude “

I attended the venue for my baby shower organised by friends, when we arrived the venue was beautiful and the grounds are amazing, the "owner" of the business was showing the rest of the party around the saying how she was hoping to improve the tea rooms. The room was beautifully devoted and looked really inviting. That's where the compliments stop. Within minutes the lady was telling us all about the nightmare baby shower they had the day before. She showed us to our tables and handed out menus for us, assuming this was to order food one of the party asked for soup as she can't eat bread from the afternoon tea, she was told no that wasn't possible as the afternoon teas had already been prepared at 8am that morning and if she wanted soup it would cost her extra on top of the price of afternoon tea, given we wasn't asked to confirm numbers for afternoon tea or if anyone had dietary requirents we shared our disappointment.

I was really looking forward to going to the Orangery yesterday, the setting is spectacular and the scones are 5*, that however is where it stops. Our party was 15 ladies wanting to enjoy a baby shower. Our organiser had called ahead to inform of our booking size and to enquire about afternoon tea prices, we had not pre booked our food. When we arrived we marvelled at the amazing venue then went to sit down and look at menus which were handed out to us. It was at this point we were informed by who I assumed was the owner that our afternoon teas were all ready and had been prepared this morning. Really you could tell as well as the bread was going hard and stale! The cucumber sandwiches were like door stops, quite frankly as a chef myself I'd of been embarrassed to have served it. However back to the ordering, one of our party asked just to have a bowl of soup to which she was told she'd still have to pay for afternoon tea, are you kidding, why pay for something you've never ordered and never wanted? 3 more of our group turned up slightly later and said they didn't have time to eat as they had to get to work. The 'owner' then asked abruptly what we were planning on doing about the remaining afternoon teas as they would still need to be paid for! The owner did this openly, loudly and very rudely to the organiser who had already said she would pay whatever was left but would mean she herself would be out of pocket, our group would not let that happen to her she already had done enough. After that loud conversation our organiser was left in tears. The happy atmosphere had been replaced with awkward silence and nervous laughter as to what the 'owner' would say next. Two members of our group found long hairs in their food but never had chance to complain, even if they had dared to that is! I myself would of ordered another drink but I had seen enough and was not willing to part with anymore money, we had been told the price would be £14.50 for afternoon tea or £20 for it with champagne- obviously I chose the champagne but when we questioned the prices on the menu to our quoted prices we were told the menu had changed.... this puzzled me as to what price the bill would fetch up. After the appalling customer service, the hairs, menu prices and the fact it was freezing until 15 minutes before we left, I will not be going back, I will inform anyone who asked not to bother. I could go on to the point of where we were told to 'f**k off' but I think I've said enough!!!

Food was terrible and all drinks were flat. Felt uncomfortable to be in the company of a racist landlady, even checked her Facebook after and I saw various hate speech’s shared including both racism, religious hate. Would not be visiting here unless you are also as thick as she is. God only knows what’s said in the confidence of privacy if this is what’s shared publicly.
