Ye Old Sun Inn in Selby

Called to make a reservation, but got an answer machine saying they must be too busy to answer the phone... so we called in on spec on a Friday night for a meal (as staying at a local'ish hotel), and the place was in darkness, so presumably closed for good?

Delicious food and desserts. Great atmosphere.

Summer 2022 Sunday lunch food was good. Service was not attentive and ended up having to go to the bar twice when the meal had been served to get our own drinks which I don’t mind but then don’t expect me to tip. I’ve eaten here before and always been pleased, but I think the further I go back the better the food , I like the small quirky rooms nice atmosphere , but this time we ate in what I can describe as a big low ceiling, dining hall, and quiet, uncomfortable chairs. Potluck, I suppose which bit you end up sat in . I know so many years ago I think they were trying to sell the pub but I believe it’s still the same management as when it had a pretty big reputation. At the end of the day, I would still recommend this pub in good consciousness.

We had a great experience with Kelly learning about her Fairfax Gin distillery, the branding story and sampled the range. We all got a pleasant surprise with the Lord General Spiced Rum.

What a fabulous experience. The real deal.

Brilliant afternoon Gin, Vodka and Rum blending. Kelly was the perfect host, very friendly and very knowledgeable. It was great to see the still "Mary" and such a different experience rather than the usual tour and tasting of spirits from the bottle. Would highly recommend for a small or large group. The sharing platter was also fabulous too!

Your website (TripAdvisor) said this place was open. We drove there to find it closed. The notice on the door says it isn't open for casual dining or drinking. It is only an Events Pub.

As always a great welcome, attentive service and good food.

Tried to visit on the 6th which according to the website it was open - place in darkness no one home wasted journey.

Had our Xmas works meal here, parking and toilets were good. The staff were very attentive and friendly, as was the atmosphere. The three courses came in a timely manner and were good, although I prefer my vegetables less well done.

Very warm and friendly place. Didn't dine but menu looked good. Will do next time. Check opening times before you visit.

Popped here with family and friends to see Santa. What a charming little pub. Service and food was great, and the on site Gin Distillery is cool to look at. Was really impressed. Will go again.

A warm welcome, good food and very good service on a Friday afternoon.The only drawback was that after our visit we were unable to get through on the phone to book a table for Sunday lunch so probably best to book online.

Held an event here and the staff were great throughout the process. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The opening times are a bit limited but if you are a group contact the pub in advance and you may find they can serve you. We ordered in advance as we were a group of 12. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. Recommended

Love this place. Friendly staff and another first class visit here on a glorious summers day where we enjoyed a lovely meal (great menu choices of just ‘good’ food) a couple of drinks and a hyper-relaxed atmosphere in the front garden - a four hour lunch well worth the drive for!

Visited this afternoon for a friend's 60th birthday. Food was out of this world. Kelly and her staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. My friend had commissioned a chocolate campervan made by the amazing Ashley, and you wouldn't believe the detail, the skill of that man. Thanks to all who made my friends' day the best she could of wished for x x we will definitely be returning. X

Came here for Father's Day and a birthday celebration with a coeliac a vegetarian and diary free dietary requirements needing to be met. Kelly the manager/owner is very clued up on allergens and intolerances. The homemade pizzas were the best they've ever tasted. All our pizzas were delicious. Definitely would recommend coming here and you'll be able to eat safely for sure.

Beautiful homecooked food in such a beautiful, quiet spot not far from York. Food is only available Monday and Friday.

Typical out of restaurant that caters to tour buses.. unseasonably mediocre food, limited beer selection

We ate here as we are staying at the premier inn nearby. Owned by a husband and wife team. Husband is the chef and choclatiere and wife distills gin and rum. Limited opening hours so do check website. Food was awesome and easily catered for my wheat intolerance

Found by accident after a64 closed. Not open a lot but chocolatier, distillery. What not to like. Lovely people, good good. Went back. Go again.

Lovely quaint pub set in a beautiful village. Friendly service, delicious food and great presentation...had 3 courses it was that good...will definitely be going again.

We recently celebrated our wedding at Ye Old Sun Inn and it was absolutely amazing. So many people said how much of a perfect venue it was for a party and we enjoyed every moment. The food and service was as wonderful as always (it’s our favourite place to come and eat anyway) and we will forever be thankful to the owners and staff for making it so special!

A nice village pub with excellent food just outside of York.

Met up with family here and we all enjoyed lunch and drinks. Great menu and food. Very friendly staff too. The pub is nicely laid out and very pleasant.

Haven't been there for several years and was surprised and pleased about how good the food was. Excellent variety of choices, really something to suit everyone. The service was excellent, we had pre booked and everything was as ordered. Some parts of the restaurant are wheelchair friendly. Car park newly laid with gravel.

First time visiting and we were really impressed. Great location, plenty of parking and a heated outdoor area. The food was top class and the staff were really welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. Definitely returning soon!

Was disappointed with the menu choices and all three of us were hard pressed to choose something that we liked to eat. Have been going to this pub for years but feel that the selection of meals was not as good as it used to be. Probably won't go again. Nice pub though.

Good food, helpings and service.

We found it very disappointing. They have drastically altered the menus and not what we expected. We have eaten at the sun Inn many times and always enjoyed it. This visit was a special event and didn't live up to our expectations.

Early dinner on Friday evening. Keeps up to the excellent standard it has held for many years now. Classic British food with local suppliers well done. Steak, one of the best I have ever had. Wine choice good. Easy service. Not cheap but worth the prices Lunch today with a group of 6. Still excellent food and service. No reservations in continuing to recommend this place.

Just popped in for lunch , very accommodating and found us a table. Very friendly staff and an enjoyable meal.

Lovely location but disappointing food. Overpriced for what it was and a 10% gratuity was added to the bill without asking first. I would not have minded if the food was good and the service a happy experience, but clearly family run pub so not sure who gets the gratuity. Just a way to get more money out of customers.

Not a cheap place, but solid portions and excellent quality Will be renting next I'm in the area

Lovely little pub set in the Yorkshire countryside in the lovely little village of colton, near Appleton Roebuck. Very friendly staff, and great service! Food is superb, and so are there drink, they even make there own gin!! Weather you live local or are passing, it is well worth the stop for a quick drink and bite to eat!

What a lovely little pub and restaurant. My husband and I had a track day at elvington and asked the staff for a recommendation on somewhere to eat. Ye Old Sun Inn came highly recommended and rightly so. I had pie of the day which was to die for and my husband had steak which was cooked to perfection. The staff were fabulous, friendly and very attentive. After our meals we had the pistachio and chocolate Blondie and the blueberry creme brulee which were both exquisite. Definitely recommend and will probably stop in for lunch on our way back to London after the weekend.

We had our Wedding reception at Ye Old Sun Inn. We have given them 5 stars as it was such a great experience. From our first enquiry, Kelly was so helpful, offering advice and guidance. We had the challenges with COVID rules changing, and late cancellations, so our numbers and seating plans had to be changed at short notice. On the day the organisation, the food, and the venue, were excellent. Thanks to all at the Sun Inn for maikng this such a memorable day.

Nice food and lovely staff. Range of food is quite poor and, given the restaurant menu pretty much reflects the bar menu, was quite disappointing. The prices are a little on the steep side but the facilities are tip top. The place has the decor and feel of a country pub trying to be a posh restaurant. We probably wouldn't visit again but this is more down to our taste the a knock against the venue. Having said that I really enjoyed my fish and chips but this was one of the cheapest things on the menu at £14

We were at a wedding here at the weekend and can only thank the staff who were friendly and the food was excellent.

Not only do they have the most incredible staff, they have a magician in the kitchen! The food was absolutely stunning.

Excellent meal, the pies were mouthwatering. I'd highly recommend this pub to anyone. The hospitality was great and blankets were provided for a chilly York day. The travel from York city centre was easy enough with the car and didn't take too long. I recommend booking in advance as it fills up and for good reason. Great job, keep up the great work!

Lovely setting and very well organised with covid restrictions. I ordered a classic cheese burger with house fries and it was amazing. It was well flavoured and juicy and the fries were nicely cook and tastey too. Portion size was more than enough to fill me out. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I definitely recommend the pub for a nice drink and an excellent meal.

A treat Father's Day meal that didn't disappoint! Table was booked ahead, which was prudent as the venue was very busy on this occasion. The service staff are attentive (but not overly) and friendly. The food, from a varied, 3-course menu was fantastic. Steak, tuna nicoise and pizza (3 meals) cooked to perfection (IMHO). A good variety of beers, wines and spirits are available from the bar. Only downside for me was the chairs at our table were a little uncomfortable, and the underside of the table was too low to comfortably have your legs under. Otherwise, Ye Old Sun Inn is a well presented gastro-pub with excellent service and fayre in the quiet village of Colton.
