Had a capuchino on first arriving which was lovely and hot. Often I have to ask for hot water to warm them up but not here. Then we had bacon and Brie sandwich which was nice then carrot cake which was DELICIOUS ! We shared a piece and the half piece was huge. Best cake and price in the area.

I turned up for opening after the Christmas break, at 9.30 (as advertised), for a breakfast with two friends but unfortunately had to go elsewhere as they didn’t have any milk, eggs, juice and they only just had an apparent bread delivery about 2 minutes earlier. The lady who was serving was apologetic for lack of things on offer but not very professional with her language about the situation. I don’t know why they bothered opening the doors when they didn’t even have milk for coffee! If you are going to advertise reopening for breakfast hopefully next time they will have basic food and drink on offer! The lady on the till even suggested we go elsewhere for breakfast which we did in the end. Shame as I really wanted to try food at this establishment! So disappointing.

We always enjoy a family trip to the friendly tea room that is Sizzle and Spout. The team there are lovely and attentive. It is a very family friendly venue, our 4 year old son likes to play with the toys that are provided whilst waiting for his grub. We've visited quite a few times and always enjoy, whether it be for lunch or breakfast it always fills us up and tastes great. Will visit again soon, thank you!

Visited this cafe several times now and it never disappoints. Lovely atmosphere, great little gifts and cards for sale. In house homemade cakes, portions huge! We've had the full English breakfast, afternoon tea and paninis. All have been really good, excellent quality. Highly recommended.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Our experience of this place was not good. We appreciate it is a small family run business, but if you are in business you should try to achieve an average standard at least, otherwise people will not return. The "afternoon tea", was poor. The four sandwiches we were given were made with stale bread from Aldi. I have seen the replies about this in earlier reviews but the excuse just doesn't wash. One filling was a very sloppy tuna mayo, another was a wafer thin slice of beef with gristle running through it, and another was THICK slices of cucumber in very stale thick bread. Not pleasant. The scone was stale too, and the very thin slice of chocolate cake overly sweet. On the plus side the staff seemed pleasant enough.

My bacon and Brie panini had undercooked bacon and not enough cheese. It was made from a baguette rather than ciabatta, so there was too much bread and not enough filling. My first latte was good, the second was much weaker, and a different colour as if the coffee had been left out. I will return as the cakes looked lovely but I felt queasy after eating the fatty bacon, which if crisped would have been good.

Visited recently on a 'mystery drive', didn't have a clue where we were going! Excellent choice of reasonably priced food items from all day breakfasts, sandwiches, jackets and light meals. Decent sized portions and good prices. Staff were friendly, chatty and welcoming, also nice for someone to come and take your order instead of having to go to the counter. Worth a visit if in the area

This is not a tea room it is a greasy spoon. The sandwich was of poor quality and the bread was on the turn. There was only one customer in as we arrived and yet our simple order took a while to complete. I shall not return

I'm in the process of moving to the area so trying to find some local eating gems. I met my friend so she could see where I'm moving and it was also her birthday. I reserved a table and was advised that there was a large party in at this time which was fine. The weather was awful so the car park was especially muddy. The cafe was totally full which is always a good sign and good for local small businesses. I was slightly early but did find it a bit irksome that even after my booking time that the couple at the table which seemed to be reserved for me as indicated by the sign were showing no signs of moving despite having finished. Thankfully another larger table became available.

My wife and I decided to pop in as we had been meaning to for ages and we were not disappointed. We walked in to a nice friendly greeting and took our seats. Our drinks orders were taken while we perused the menu. I had a decaffeinated tea and my wife a large coffee, we both decided to have the breakfast, i had the large one and my wife the smaller. The food was delicious!! The toast that came with the breakfast was think, chunky and seemed home made, the breakfasts came and i have to say not at all greasy, the sausages I believe are locally sourced, the bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes all beautiful, the only suggestion I would make is black pudding instead of potatoes but thats just personal preference. We finished and really wished we had room for a piece of the homemade cakes on offer but we were just too full, forever, it gives us an excuse to go again. All in all a lovely little place with a great friendly atmosphere, happy, friendly staff and the food is just amazing. We will be back for cake!!!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I went to 'The Hut', as the friend who took me there for the first time last week calls it, and was so impressed with the ambience, quality of the food and service, that when she asked "where shall we go for our weekly outing this week, I immediately replied, "Can we visit The Hut again?" Once again the place was packed but we managed a seat at the one remaining table and, once again, Stacey came to take our order with a smile and friendliness. I agree with Mudgee_8 that nothing is too much bother but, unfortunately, I also agree with her comment about the bacon and we did mention it to Tracey. The sausage, however, is the best I have ever tasted and was cooked to perfection. I noticed, too late, that I could have had fresh tomatoes instead of tinned and the beans, in our case, were fine. The cream cakes are to die for! At the moment the 'road' that leads to the parking places is a bit like a Builder's Yard and I actually fell going back to where my car was parked. On this occasion the state of the road was only partially to blame as I was telling my friends, who were going to visit the garden centre, that I would move the car and then join them when down I went. My embarrassment and a bruised ego were the main injuries I suffered!

Often come here for coffee and maybe something to eat. It is a small wooden café and can get quite busy and when it does it can feel over-crowded and noisy, however, the staff are all lovely and nothing is a bother. They have a little area for kids to play and keep occupied and there is also a disable toilet inside. The majority of the food is lovely and freshly cooked especially the jacket potatoes and the hot sandwiches, however, the cooked breakfasts can be hit and miss as more often than not the bacon is like leather, the beans stewed and sometimes the sausages overdone. They have fresh homemade cakes (made on the premise). It is a bit hidden and the parking sometimes feels your in a mud bath, however, I will be supporting this little café and continue eating here and recommend people give it a try. Mudgee8

Finally called in after passing many times. Just your average cafe really, hardly what I'd call a 'hidden gem'. However, what puts me off returning is the muddy car park. The weather had been dry but it was still squelchy. Must be a quagmire when it's raining. Muddy footprints in the car and numerous potholes to negotiate. Get a proper surface down and I might return.

Opted for the breakfast as the menu didn't have much choice of hot food. Jacket Potatoes, Panni and breakfasts. The menu boasts that the products come from local shops and bakeries. The bread from Mikelfield but on the day I went. The bread was clearly from Aldi. Nothing wrong per say with the bread but don't pretend to use local produce if you are not. Makes you wonder what other products they are using from a local supermarket. The breakfast was tinned tomatoes for a place that advertises fresh and local produce you would expect a fresh tomato would you not? The day we went they allowed dogs in. My wife is allergic so that wasn't great. Don't want to start about the hygenie issue but I think animals should be left outside personally. Average experience at best won't go out of my way unless I fancy coffee and cake.

Regular readers will possibly guess we do look for new and interesting tea rooms on our travels and TripAdvisor is so useful in our research. I nearly failed to find this venue , so a tip. It's on the main Tadcaster road , i.e. the bypass. It's also currently open seven days a week and it's at the start of the garden centre, first left into what looks like a large wooden hut. Do not be put off. Go in and have a great taste sensation or two. The girls are friendly and the full English is sensational !
