We love the big cheese, in fact I have just finished the delicious cheddar purchased from their deli on our holiday in Porlock last week. It's also a great place for your morning coffee and cake, located in the centre of this delightful seaside town with comfortable seating and a very genial host. Thank you to the staff at the big cheese - we will be back soon.

Good quality, well priced traditional pub grub, served with a friendly smile and helpful staff. We were in Dunster for 3 nights and we pre-booked dinner here on our first night. When we arrived there were four other people in the pub, but by 8.00 it was full, because that Thursday was quiz night. We tried to have dinner here on Saturday night, but it was full booked. My advice is telephone and book ahead if the want to eat here.

We went here for an evening meal, the food was lovely and a lot of thought went into it. Unfortunately the service and the ambiance was not up to par. For a Saturday night there were only a few other people there which made us think that we had probably chosen the wrong place to go. Why are people not going here? I was surprised to be sat near the office area and the bar when we could be making use of the restaurant. The girls could then have their conversations without the customers in ear shot. It made the experience feel more casual. Considering it was the weekend before Valentine’s Day, we only saw a few other couples here, this should be the busiest night of the week. It took 20 mins for the waitress to come over and offer a drink, we were going to give it 5 more minutes before we walked out. At least the waitress apologised when she came over in the end, but you just don’t do that. The food was very nice but the service needs a lot of work. Dim the lighting, add some candles and be more attentive, use a tray too. The standard of food and the service do not align, you would be better off offering more casual food if you are not going to up the standards of service. Just a thought. I also don’t understand why the staff are wearing masks on their chins. Why not just take it off??

We returned to this please after many years for cream tea. What a disappointment it was. As soon as we entered the garden the entrance of which looked a bit overgrown, 2 ladies were chatting away ignoring as completely and we weren’t sure if we had to order at the counter or wait to be served. Eventually, we realized that we had to order at the counter. We ordered cream tea for 2 choosing earl grey with slices of lemon. They didn’t have any lemon which is fair enough therefore we opted for coffee instead, which was very average. The scones were some of the smallest we have ever had. It is not beluga caviar, it is just flour! The garden was not quite as idyllic as we remembered it. we understand that over a period of time things change but unfortunately not always for the better. The jam and cream were ok. The day after, while waiting at the bus stop in Porlock, we started chatting to a couple and funny enough they had had a similar experience, so here we go

Enjoyed a superb all day breakfast for lunch! It was freshly cooked whilst we waited, so it was nice and hot when we tucked in, rather than warm. Also served with fresh toast. We didn't need to eat again that day! Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely go back when in the area.

Goodbye! Oh dear! How can I tell you about our favourite local pub? This morning 28 July 2024 a friend knowing our love of the George Inn said the local newspaper had announced the pub was closing today. Our last visit was on the 21st June for a wonderful lunch. In all the occasions we have visited we have never had a bad experience and always been complimentary over the cuisine as their chef Dave knew his skills in his menus would please patrons. With plans in for a change of use it is not likely this wonderful hostelry will ever revert to being a pub. The local community is much concerned re this closure so we are not the only people who will miss venturing onto the Brendon Hills to celebrate family occasions. Tears are welling!! Au Revoir dear George…….. Russell D 965

Went here for brunch on a Saturday morning. Great coffee and lovely choice of cakes and light snacks. Not an extensive menu but great for what we wanted. Huge breakfast baps with choice of fillings - delicious. Pasties/jackets etc. Very friendly service. No tables outside but was lovely on a beautiful sunny day to sit on the public benches and admire the harbour view. Much nicer than being in the better of town. Will definitely retire when next visiting.

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!

Great breakfast both Full breakfast and the large big breakfast. A good find on a wet and windy Saturday. Nice breakfast well cooked to order so expect a little wait but worth waiting for and the dog was allowed to come inside as well.

Right in the centre of Dunster, we always thought it would be a bit high class, but I'm so glad to have booked a Sunday lunch here. It's so lovely inside, little nooks and crannies, cosy, beautifully and traditionally decorated and then there was the food. We had a great Sunday lunch, beef with all the trimmings, it was fabulous. The service was great and the staff attentive and best of all it was dog friendly, so our dog joined us too. Highly recommend a visit.
