Portside Diner in West Somerset

Enjoyed a superb all day breakfast for lunch! It was freshly cooked whilst we waited, so it was nice and hot when we tucked in, rather than warm. Also served with fresh toast. We didn't need to eat again that day! Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely go back when in the area.

We stopped here for lunch as we’d been here before without complaint, however today was not a great experience, a couple that had come in before us , were served ahead of us and once we were served we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks to be brought over, the meal was ok when it came but they forgot the tomatoes so had to be brought out in a separate dish, then to top it off, the bread and butter that my partner had, had green mould on it , we called the waitress who apologised and brought another assuring us it was from a different loaf. Once finished I waited about 10 minutes before the manager Peter came to speak to me about the mouldy bread and agreed to not charge us for our drinks and took my email address incase the bread company wanted to contact me separately. I will certainly think twice before going there again.

We went as a family for a Sunday Carvery, the food was great and the staff are super friendly. Overall we had a lovely meal and we will be back later in the week. Be aware that they are only open Thursday to Sunday, but this restaurant is well worth fitting into your plans, when staying in Minehead.

Service felt awkward, like they didn't want us there. Everything stuck to the table, not clean. Had a full English and it tasted cheap and full of grease. Even the tea and coffee was not good.

Have stopped for a fried breakfast a couple of times since the new owners took over. Always friendly and our dog loves the biscuits. They had kippers this time which were good.

This is a very good diner which is dog friendly. The staff were very welcoming and the menu was good. We had the salmon special and the trout. The trout was one of the best I’ve had. Recommend a visit.

Nice 2 meat Sunday roast dinner, plenty of meat and veg. Friendly service and allowed dogs. Well worth the visit. Would pop back in for a cooked breakfast but the are closed Mon, Tues and weds.

We visited today and enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch. The food was well cooked, hot, tasty and a large portion. We ofted for a mix of Beef and Turkey and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and the whole area was very clean and warm. We will definitely be returning next time we are in the Minehead area.

Without a doubt the best plated commercial Sunday Lunch ever. We booked a table for five, and were served promptly, either Turkey or Beef and our food came after about 10 minutes and it was very hot, It`s possible that each plate spent time in a commercial microwave before being sent out, just a guese. I would make the following comments, the plates were too small for the generous portions of food to be presented well, we discovered that small portions at reduced price would have been available if ordered, the gravy was too thick for my taste, but better than being too thin, and it was tasty, as were the yorkshire puddings. This place is a proper little gem and we shall be going again.

Four of us wanted a hearty breakfast before travelling home after a few days away. We chose the Portside Diner because of the menu, location and the promise of a cooked breakfast. We were not disappointed. Four of us plus dog, ate traditional fare with was delicious and hot. Service was excellent and the food was served with a smile. Thank you.

I go here regularly now. I used to always ask for cheese on my poached eggs on toast, I don't even have to say anything when I arrive anymore. I'm not sure where their eggs are from but they are deep orange and clearly the very best free range eggs around. Fantastic chef, generous portions, and very pleasant table service.

There were a group of 10 of us visited today (we had booked) it was our first visit for us. We were not disappointed, the meals were excellent. The waiter Odie was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. It was very busy as well but we were all very pleased with the quality of the food and service. It's certainly somewhere we will visit again.

Dropped in for a late Sunday lunch and our party of six couldnt have asked for better service or food. The selection was great, the quality and flavour was great, the wines were great. Nothing was too much trouble. Its the type of place you could easily pass by dismissing it as a small cafe - but don't. Make it a must place to eat. Just superb.

We called in for a light lunch as we were eating out later. There were five of us and four of us ordered a pasty lunch. We were all impressed with the friendly, efficient service, food presentation and the quality of the food itself. We will return next time we’re in Minehead.

..after a shocking meal on Friday night and a disastrous overnight stay elsewhere in Minehead (see other TA reviews) we had despaired with the place never to return. But on our way out to Porlock we happened across this place which served us a lovely breakfast in pleasant surroundings and excellent service from a refreshingly bright young man. Recommend

Interesting venue. I'm guessing the chef owner is stressed as it seems to make the nice staff on edge. If he could relax and chill a bit more I'm confident the staff could be more proactive and less nervous.

Just arrived for a short stay in Minehead and wanted a family friendly eatery, but didn’t fancy the Brewers Fayre next to the Premier Inn so sought something a bit different. Headed for the Old Ship Aground pub on the quay which looked a good option, but a band was setting up which we decided was not for us tonight. Just along the road we stumbled on this place and it was perfect. I hear this is under relatively new ownership and so feel I should write a review straight away. We had very nice and generous portions of fish & chips / scampi & chips - both came with peas but also salad and coleslaw. Our 9 year old son enjoyed his sausage, chips and peas too. Service from the owners and staff very friendly indeed, including making sure our son was happy with what he wanted - e.g. making sure gravy was separate and without onions ‘cos he’s fussy like that. It all felt effortless and relaxed probably because it seemed to be run by very capable and pleasant people who are no doubt working hard and who care to make it like this. With the style and surroundings it almost felt like a step back in time - and I mean that only in every good way - a long way off from bland corporate eateries. Suited us down to the ground. To boot we heard they have just obtained their licence and there was a nice selection of local bottled ales. Delicious ice cream to finish topped it off. Then the bill came as a shock - it was amazing value ! Will recommend to friends visiting the area next week.

My husband and I visited today.I had a veggie breakfast and my husband had a full English. Good quality produce,really tasty and hot. The staff here are really friendly which creates a lovely environment. We will definitely return and highly recommend it.

This business changed hands about sx months ago, apparently. It is run by two very pleasant people and they employ very pleasant staff. We visited the place twice on holiday, once for a Sunday carvery which was superb and once for a breakfast.

Had an excellent breakfast and was able to take our dog inside, value for money, staff friendly and looking forward to having an evening meal there too

We have been to portside a few times and always had really great food. They are always happy and cheerful the carvery was excellent everything was hot and freshly cooked the kids enjoyed it as well.we did have to book a table and I am glad We did as they was extremely busy.

This diner is a fantastic place to eat, my husband and I have the all day breakfast and omg it was amazing the best breakfast in Minehead by a country mile. The service was extremely welcoming, Mike the chef goes above and beyond. It’s a definite place to visit and we will definitely be returning.

I called into this very busy diner on Sunday lunchtime with my husband. It looked really inviting and we were hungry. It was full so we were offered a seat at the front if we wished to wait. It was well worth the five minute wait for a table. The food was delicious. The gravy perfect. All the staff were very friendly too. The food we chose was from the hot roast carvery with two choices of meat. All the vegetables were so fresh. It was just like a good home roast dinner. Other food was available if we’d have preferred. Coffee and pudding offered after however we were so full we had to decline.

Outside the takeaway section of the cafe is a sign saying ‘Chunk of Devon pies and pasties’. On the hot unit was a similar sign. The pasty I was sold (for £4.50!!) was not a ‘Chunk of Devon’ pasty, but a nasty tasting meat and potato version of a pasty that went in the bin after two bites. Appalling and misleading.

Lovely quaint cafe at Minehead harbour. I had Homemade soup with large baguette, hubby chose fish and chips, lovely batter. We even ended up having a Knickerbocker glory, a traditional dessert with jelly and the fruit tasted like it had sherry added, fantastic. Went back for breakfast and an afternoon tea. All superb, little touches like bringing an extra pot with extra hot water for the teapot and giving a plate of extra sausages as we didn't want black pudding or tomatoes. They went the extra mile. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Would definitely recommend. Prices very reasonable and meal portions very good.

We were exploring Minehead harbour today and noticed that the Portside Diner looked extremely popular with guests eating lunch.

Came in originally for a cup of coffee, but the food looked so nice we decided to have lunch. Had a very nice jacket potato with plenty of filling and a nice fresh salad. Will certainly be back in the near future

We had just done an eleven mile cycle ride and were a bit peckish. We called in to Portside Diner, a cosy little restaurant where we had a brilliant lunch. Pete and Mike were very welcoming and friendly, also the young waitress who I think was called Amy. It was a delightful experience and we will certainly visit again.

We called in this quant restaurant just off the harbour wall near the quay to try there fish and chips there are about 12 tables cream teas seem to be a speciality called here last last year and had the cream tea and it was very nice and filling lovely jam

Whilst walking along the harbour front spotted this little gem. really great welcome from the young waitress. Service was excellent and the food was piping hot and generous portion size. All of the staff spoke to us during the visit and I really felt that I wanted to return there. It is also Dog friendly which is a tremendous boon. Grat value for money and I recommend it to all.
