Right in the centre of Dunster, we always thought it would be a bit high class, but I'm so glad to have booked a Sunday lunch here. It's so lovely inside, little nooks and crannies, cosy, beautifully and traditionally decorated and then there was the food. We had a great Sunday lunch, beef with all the trimmings, it was fabulous. The service was great and the staff attentive and best of all it was dog friendly, so our dog joined us too. Highly recommend a visit.

We stayed at The Luttrell Arms for our honeymoon and it was a perfect base to explore Exmoor from. Everything was exceptional. The food was wonderful (especially the secret garden pizza), the room and the whole building was gorgeous, and the staff were amazing. I don't think ice stayed anywhere where the staff were so helpful and kind. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful.

Went to the Luttrell Arms for lunch post a fabulous walk around the outside of Dunster Castle. Finally manged to find ourself to the Secret Garden..which it most certainly was as lack of signage made it almost impossible to find 😂. Thankfully the staff were only to happy to guide. The staff were fabulous 👌! Only too happy to help and assist when ordering/serving food. The Secret Garden itself is a little hidden gem and a welcome retreat. Food was OK and overpriced in my opinion hence the 4 stars.

Beautiful pub which I have visited for many years. The staff are always friendly, and food is always very good. We normally choose to sit in the bar area as it has a great atmosphere and style, but on our most recent visit we sat in the dining area which was excellent too. Slightly quieter, which is easier for conversation.

The beautiful decor of this pub unfortunately did not compensate for overpriced, cold food, nonexistent service and general chaos we experienced on Easter Sunday. The pub was clearly unstaffed and disorganised. We had to queue at the bar to order our food and drinks, despite it clearly being a sit-down pub, while one staff member remarked 'it's just one crisis after another here'. The food came quickly, but the portions were tiny (my £16.50 sausage roll was the same size as a £2 Gregg's equivalent), they didn't taste of much and weren't hot. It was cunning of them to ask that we pay upfront, because we might well have refused the full amount otherwise. In summary: it's a place with great potential but clearly in need of better management!

My wife & I were celebrating our 64th wedding anniversary and we wanted something special. We live in South Wales & our friends recommended the Luttrel Arms. It was a 100 mile drive to get there. But it was well worth the effort. From a warm and genuine welcome from the owner to the very kind staff member who carried our case upstairs to a delightful room & beautiful suite. with an a joining sun terrace. The hotel had provided a well stock tea & coffee facilities complete with very high class biscuits. We had booked a 3 night stay, it was so enjoyable I wish I had booked longer. The dinners we had in the restaurant were bordering on Michelin quality. One meal a fresh sea trout or Sewin as we call them in Wales. Was the best I have ever eaten, and I have had a few over the years. The breakfast is a wonderful spread of all the cereals one could wish for plus fresh fruit & yogurt with a superb fruit compote. For the hot selection their was a full "English"comprising of Eggs, field mushrooms, sausages, black pudding & beans. A real trencher mans meal. A great wine list with a selection of Zero alcohol for drivers or none drinkers. after dinner one could retire to the residents lounge which is very comfortable with a large fire to add luxury and ambience to the room. The bar has a superb collection of beers, spirits and local Somerset cider. Our 3 days went to fast with such caring staff & a great bonhomie atmosphere throughout the hotel. The walks around Dunster are wonderful and the place is cram packed in history with a large castle & grounds to explore. Thank You Luttrel Arms Hotel management & staff for making our stay so enjoyable

Lovely hotel/pub. Staff very professional and friendly. Had some great burgers (must be homemade?) for lunch- which would have been even better if a couple of lettuce leaves and one or two small tomatoes were included on the plate - just a few pence on a circa £19 plate would have greatly improved the presentation and enjoyment. (Will still come back even if they don't take this suggestion)

Stunning hotel oozing character and charm. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are transported to a different era. Much of it dates back to the 15th century, but has been tastefully and luxuriously updated, retaining much of the original charm. The staff are unfailingly polite and efficient, the food is sublime and everything is spotlessly clean. Our room (Dunkery Beacon) was amazing. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to return. Dunster is a delightful little village with an interesting range of little shops and the castle is stunning.

Having had many nice midweek lunches here previously, we decided to visit on a Sunday. It was fairly busy and in fairness they did seem short staffed. Our £18 per person roast was not good. Cold plates and cold food. The one and a half slices of roast turkey could not have been sliced any thinner. One small sausage with undercooked bacon, one stone cold Yorkshire pudding, three roast potatoes and a dessert bowl with a few vegetables. There was a bizarre handful of dried breadcrumbs on the plate and on asking, we were told that it was the stuffing. The staff did change our food when we mentioned it was cold but unfortunately it wasn’t much warmer second time around. We decided not to stay for dessert and coffee and left very disappointed.

We stayed two nights here as recommended by my son, however not what we were expecting. For the price, we were expecting an exceptional room and service. Whilst on first appearancethe room looked good with a four poster bed, it was not what it seemed. Firstly there were steps leading down to the bathroom, which is fine when the light is on, but dangerous in the middle of the night when it is dark. If you forget that they are there you could have a nasty accident. Unless you want to put the light on and disturb your partner. The bathroom left a bit to be desired, with grout needing a bleaching as it was a bit rough in quite a few places. There was a tatty old chair in the bathroom as well, only needs a coat of paint. Nice having a four poster bed, but when you put the TV on you have a post right in the middle of the screen. I think that the woman serving breakfast needs a day off. She was very abrupt and when my wife asked if there was any cheese available for breakfast, she got a sharp ‘no’ we don’t have cheese at breakfast, not a ‘sorry no it’s not available in the mornings’ which would have been a bit nicer. The food and drink is very expensive for what it is and I heard a couple of people complain when we were sitting in the bar about various things, which were just ignored. Would I stay again? I don’t think so, plenty of nicer places to stay at that sort of money.

We stayed here by chance after discovering Dunster after a road diversion. And what a lucky discovery it was. Dunster is full of history and almost stuck in time. There are lots of craft and local independent shops on the high street. The tourist information office is full of details of local events and walks. There are also guided walks every other Wednesday. The Luttrell Arms exceeded all expectations. Dated back to the 15th century, and retaining many old features, the bar and lounges are comfortable with a great atmosphere. We were here mid week and there were always other guests around, highlighting its popularity. The lounge included a library of locally inspired books which were interesting to flick through. Perhaps the gem is the "secret garden" which is huge! Plenty of seating and pods, with it's own outside bar. Our room was light, airy and spacious. the bathroom exceptionally clean and well equipped. The individual terrace was a bonus given the weather was actually fine during our stay. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, country prints adorn the walls throughout the hotel all telling a tale of times gone by. The food was especially good. The menu including multiple dishes that made choosing just one difficult! We had steak, which was cooked perfectly and the ploughman's at lunchtime was plentiful with the best onion marmalade ever! Perhaps the best feature of this hotel though is the staff. All happy, friendly and extremely efficient, they made guests feel at ease and very welcome. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We will definitely be back, without a doubt. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The Luttrell Arms was always the “ posh” hotel / bar / restaurant/ bistro in DUNSTER a picture postcard village on Exmoor. As long term village home owners we are ideal target customers. The hotel has, like many West Country establishments suffered since Covid with staff shortages but the new antipodean manager is unbelievable! To be told that we couldn’t chose a time to eat until the kitchen allowed was laughable especially when the place was 75% empty . He needs urgent customer service training or sent back down under !

Visited here for a meal while visiting a friend . Lovely building with various rooms to sit in . We had a table reserved and the name was showing on the table. There was a main menu and a special menu. I thought the starters and sweets were priced a bit steep ( £9 for 1 piece of bruschetta) but the mains were priced a more realistically. I had the pork chop which was huge , although rather fatty, and my friend had the fish of the special which she mentioned was cold . Didn’t have a dessert. The staff were all fantastic, very attentive and friendly. It was nice , but I’ll probably look at one of the other places to eat next time & compare .

Quaint hotel with large secret beer garden at the back giving great views of the castle and village. Garden really nicely done and great place to relax after visiting the castle service was a little comical, they got our order wrong three times, and we...

Staff were very friendly and attentive to Covid precautions. A traditional pub feel and cosy. The food was excellent and value for money. I will certainly return when in the area.

Living locally I have been to the Luttrel’s many times over the years. I had heard some disappointing reviews about the food yearly in the year. I am pleased to say it’s not the case now. The service is excellent and the waitress happily offered...

Really super pub and restaurant. We loved the surroundings - have had a drink here a couple of times. Went for dinner on the night before lockdown - without booking - and staff accommodated us. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere - clearly liked by local residents,...

I have been here twice this year and both experiences were not good. I had oysters on the first occasion and they were sent back as they were a little old and tiny. I put this down to genuine error. Atmosphere and staff very nice. Second time Oysters again but the salad was discoloured and old. I did complain to the waitress all she said was I will mention it to the chef. I put the salad to one side. I saw the chef talking to another client. I called him and showed him the sald. He looked at it and said I agree its not that good is it and walked away. That says it all. Wont reccommend this place.

We had booked a table in the bar as the restaurant was for the Hotel guests. They had a wide choice on their menu. We had the full three courses & drinks. The staff were great & helpful.

We called in for a quick drink, very nice pub, which looks to have a great gluten free choice on their menu, sadly this does not extend to stocking gluten free beers or ales, such a shame as there are so many great ones about now!

Beautiful setting; a quintessential English garden. We have visited Kitnors over the past few years whilst holidaying in Devon but our last visit was very disappointing. Ordered cheese on toast and cheese scones. Thin sliced loaf with thinly processed cheese. Scones were tiny with thinly sliced processed cheese. Small portions of chutney. All served on small tea plates. We’ve always promoted Kitnors to others but sadly not anymore. Staff were friendly but food was poor.

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!
