Hats down, the best caffee I ever been to in England. First off all, clean and tidy. The kitchen looks so small, but I was so surprised by the quality and finishing touches of the food! Says a lot about chef. Good menu, reasonable prices ( the area itself is quite expensive, not always you can see gruyere cheese on the menu) and the freshly made salad. Simply, fresh, delicious. Almost, like a Sunday lunch at mama's. Highly recommended and thank you

The welcome was not warm. We were told there would be a wait as there was one other table in. The staff seemed harassed and we were not served for over 20 minutes. The cakes did not appear to be home made and the choice was very limited. We will not be returning.

This is a proper cafe, by which I mean great local food, nicely prepared and presented, with a friendly welcome and very good coffee. We went there for breakfast after finding one of the tea rooms closed and the other fully booked. If we had known it was this good we would have come straight here. Nice understated decor, comfortable and welcoming. I had a lovely ‘full English’ with sausages and bacon from the butcher’s shop across the road and my partner had toast with local marmalade and a really good flat white.

My fiancé and I stopped to have breakfast before going on our walk, he ordered beans on toast with grated cheese on top and I ordered cheese on toast, the staff are friendly enough and the service was good but upon eating our meal my partner noticed the grated cheese was green and on my cheese on toast , part of it was also green, my partner made the gentleman aware and he apologised and offered to make it again but after this we were totally put off , as it’s unacceptable that this was not checked before serving or even making, so we paid for our drinks and left and would certainly think twice before going there again

My friend and I visited this lovely cafe on the bank holiday monday. What a lovely place. Also what very helpful staff who went out of their way to deal with my friends food allergies. Stumbled across this little gem whilst travelling to Exmoor. Easy parking in an adjacent car park, the cafe doesn't look much from the outside. However, a glance through the window revealed a marvellous display of home cooked cakes; so we ventured inside. Very nicely decorated with a warm ambience & spotlessly clean & tidy. Surveying the menu revealed an extensive range of snacks & meals all at very reasonable prices. We eventually settled on some home made lemon drizzle cake and a pot of tea. Delicious. All served with a warm & friendly smile & nothing too much trouble attitude. A thoroughly reccommended stop off. Only one criticism: the owners may wish to rethink their over shop signage as the current shop sign doesn't do justice to the quality of food, welcome and general ambience of the interior.

What a lovely old fashioned cafe at the eastern end of the High Street - smashing warm welcome from the ladies who staff the cafe, who were so friendly and attentive - great reception and service! But, oh dear, we must have caught them on an off day - my partner ordered a chicken and chorizo pasty - when it arrived it had neither chicken or chorizo within the pastry, it was steak! - I ordered chicken and ham pie, which when it arrived was in dire need of a spoonful or two of gravy to moisten the dish, and in all honesty, if it had been a blind tasting, I would have sworn my pie's filling was smoked haddock! - Very strange indeed - maybe a mix up in both cases when labelling up before freezing, but hello, the title 'Home Cook Cafe' infers to me freshly cooked food? Other customers enjoyed a variety of delicious looking panninis and toasted sandwiches, but we seemed to luck out on our two dishes from the Specials Board - did we complain, no, didn't want to cause an uproar with the lovely ladies and we ate our dishes anyway because we were famished - do I recommend this cafe? yes, simply because of the atmoshere and lovely staff, I'm sure we were just a little unlucky on the day!

Very nice place to eat with excellent food and friendly owner. Young waitress who was front of house missed us (wife and self) and served a table of six who had come in after us....... then another individual who was 10 minutes behind us. Patiently we waited amongst the dirty crockery that the last people on our table had left, until 40 minutes after we arrived we pointed out that our order had not been taken. Wife ended up running down the street to get to hair appointment late..... one hour after entering the cafe. Great to see young locals being given a Saturday job but felt ignored and less than grunted. Probably best to exercise some light touch supervision of trainees rather than make customers feel very annoyed (if only temporarily). Will go back because food is good and owner is nice, but will put on my best assertive disguise.

To be honest, the place isnt quaint looking from the outside, although clean and bright, but inside it has a totally different feel. Our Cream Teas arrived in quick time, and as I have said, the scone texture and taste is one of the best I have had. Plenty of jam and cream too. Wonderful. I ordered a juice [ not cheap]. It came at room temperature and no offer of ice!.Sorry but this place probably does offer home cooked food but they need to invest in a fridge / chiller larger enough to take their stock of drinks and also proper re-heating facilities. We visited on a recommendation from the visitor centre but were very disappointed with the food. We ordered lasagne, but what arrived bore no resemblance whatsoever to that tasty dish. We had enquired if it was homemade, and it was , after a fashion ! The beef mince was grey and swimming in fat, there was no bechamel sauce in the dish at all and the taste was totally devoid of anything remotely Italian. Maybe we made the wrong choice from the menu, but we won't be going back to sample anything else.

We had a lovely home cooked lunch that was really delicious. The cakes looked delicious, but sadly I couldn't fit any in after the generous portion of quiche and salad. We were given a very friendly welcome and certainly hope to return in the near future. Highly recommended

Really high quality food prepared and served very well. We enjoyed our food at lunchtime. All the food is locally sourced and cooked very well. There is a great smell of fresh food being prepared when you go in. Makes you feel hungry.

Reading other reviews about this 'friendly' cafe, we couldn't say the same, more like indifferent to us! We visited today after finding that our usual 'friendly' tearoom was closed for a couple of weeks. It wasn't our first visit, having been there in the past and not being overly impressed. The tables for two were crammed together. There was a young lad serving and someone behind the counter cooking etc. I had salmon fish cakes and my husband had the spicy sausage and sun dried tomato pie. The food was good, nothing wrong with that, just the portion size of the pie and lack of gravy. This was more noticeable when a couple came in after us and one of them had the pie which was 50% bigger than our portion, had more carrots and potatoes and also had gravy. Did we get tourist portions, I wonder? When we left, there was no goodbye or thank you, just ignored and they can't say they were busy, only four people were left and they had their food.

The food was amazing. Fresh flavours all around. We were looking for a different place and we found it. Aubergine & potato flatbread was amazing! Try also tomato with grilled feta!!

Beautiful setting; a quintessential English garden. We have visited Kitnors over the past few years whilst holidaying in Devon but our last visit was very disappointing. Ordered cheese on toast and cheese scones. Thin sliced loaf with thinly processed cheese. Scones were tiny with thinly sliced processed cheese. Small portions of chutney. All served on small tea plates. We’ve always promoted Kitnors to others but sadly not anymore. Staff were friendly but food was poor.

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!

First and foremost the waiting staff and kitchen staff are a credit to the company. I cannot fault them at all. They were polite and helpful, the food was outstanding. If you requested anything they were happy to help. Every single guest commented on they portion sizes being generous and the food quality being amazing. We had an intimate wedding reception with a weekend stay. There were no pre warnings to other guests that a wedding was being held, no signage from the hotel. We felt quite uncomfortable with the disapproving looks some of the guests gave us. No special greeting for the bride/groom. Our bridal suite wasn't dressed for a wedding, there was no nice special touches, the bridal vanity station could do with updating or at least a bigger mirror and more comfortable chair. the manager who met with us was quite rude and very rough while handling my home made wedding cake, I heard after the fact that the cake had been damaged and had to be repaired by the groom. Communication lacked throughout the booking process, things we were offered and asked for weren't present on the day. It's an extremely lovely hotel, perfect for a standard weekend away. Bathrooms could do with updating they felt quite cheap. Floorboards are extremely loud but it does make it feel more rustic. i wouldnt recommend it to people for a wedding unless they privately hire their own wedding coordinator for their big day. The location and food really were amazing if it wasn't for that and the waiting staff my review would have been 2 stars. Management needs to shake up a bit, of the 3 managers we met 2 were rude.
