We returned to this please after many years for cream tea. What a disappointment it was. As soon as we entered the garden the entrance of which looked a bit overgrown, 2 ladies were chatting away ignoring as completely and we weren’t sure if we had to order at the counter or wait to be served. Eventually, we realized that we had to order at the counter. We ordered cream tea for 2 choosing earl grey with slices of lemon. They didn’t have any lemon which is fair enough therefore we opted for coffee instead, which was very average. The scones were some of the smallest we have ever had. It is not beluga caviar, it is just flour! The garden was not quite as idyllic as we remembered it. we understand that over a period of time things change but unfortunately not always for the better. The jam and cream were ok. The day after, while waiting at the bus stop in Porlock, we started chatting to a couple and funny enough they had had a similar experience, so here we go

We have not been in this tea gardens for a good many years, either its been shut or its been very busy. This year we struck lucky and went in on the Friday afternoon. We had the the mixed cream tea-half savoury and half sweet with a pot of tea for two-we both enjoyed the warm scones and it was the correct amount for what you are paying-must be some greedy people if this was not enough for them, good value for money, lovely setting and warm and welcoming service

We popped into the tea room for lunch, accompanied by our dog, during a hike. The garden was a perfect spot for a break and they had a bowl of water for the dog and dog biscuits on sale (which got the seal of approval from our canine pal). The young lady who served us was smiley and helpful. I had the cheese scone with cheese and pickle and a coffee. Both were delicious. My fellow hikers were equally as happy with their lunches. It’s a beautiful garden in a beautiful village in a beautiful part of the country. Highly recommended.

Lovely location for a tea shop. However, for the price I did not expect soggy/ processed bread in my ploughman's baguette - it was like a sponge dish scourer! Cream tea scones were pixie sized and not worth the price - what a shame...

Three quarters of the way through our first leg of the south west coast path, we came across this little treasure. We stopped in here after our walk to the beach, it was a beautiful sunny day and the garden didn't disappoint. We ordered a pork bap and a ploughman's. The bap was delicious, the ploughman's was in fact a baguette with ham, cheese (I think processed) apple and chutney with crisps on the side. Although nice, it wasn't a traditional ploughman's and it cost £8.25. At £17 for a light lunch, with no drinks, it's a little on the steep side. I wouldn't rush back, lovely setting, pleasant staff but over priced.

Called in for tea after a wonderful coastal path walk. Service was slow, ordered scone jam and butter and slice of Victoria sponge plus two cold drinks. The scone when it came was small and overcooked, it also looked like it had been made from the last rollings! The waitress informed us it was the last scone left and reluctantly offered something else. We kept it but it wasn't brilliant. The owner came to our table and offered very poor excuses for the state of the scone, no recompense or complimentary product, he had a very poor customer service attitude. However the slice of sponge was very nice. After having paid he walked past and said he had knocked money off the bill which we thought fair enough until we realised it was only about 10p. (An absolute insult).

Five of us were walking on the SW Coast Path from Minehead to Porlock Weir, when we came across the delightful village of Bossington. What was even more delightful was the tea shop. We sat outside in the lovely sunshine and were enchanted by all the birds, both in numbers and variety. In addition the plants and flowers were lovely. What was even more lovely was the Cream Tea which came with lashings of jam and a request to please ask for more clotted cream because they'd made too much. The scones were gorgeous, including the gluten free ones - one of the few places that did them. The ladies chose to explore the village but us gents chose to stay put and were soon lulled into a late afternoon nap. Apparently when the ladies returned they were told that the reason the table had not been cleared was because they didn't want to disturb us. I could happily have stayed put for the rest of the day, but unfortunately we had to trek on to Porlock Weir for the car.

Dropped in for a cream tea and a snack, much like most other people there I suspect. The garden is a lovely spot, but got the feeling it was a bit run down. One of our party remembered the borders and surroundings being much smarter than this. The entrance gate sat to one side in a broken state. The owner stated that they had just taken over so perhaps it will improve.Rather strangely we got our pots of tea then had to go and ask for our scones/cream, to then be told that most people want theirs separately. Strange!?Comparing this to our experience at the Horner Wood tea rooms the following day, demonstrated how much the new owners need to improve this establishment.

Kitnors is probably the best 'Tea Room and Garden' in the South West. For a main course try the quiche, freshly made by the owner that morning; or the home-made soup which is accompanied by cheese on toast. You'll start replicating it at home! Follow that with a piece of the delicious lemon cake and on your return visits you'll have difficulty choosing an alternative cake. Or have a superb scone cream tea followed by a piece of cake - there are probably 12 different ones to choose from (many also available in a seperate gluton free section).Just like me and my family you will then just have to return later in your holiday, it's all so delicious at Kitnors in Bossington.Parking is easy in the National Trust car park opposite; Kitnors serve meals or snacks in the attractive cottage garden or the dining room; then look around the picturesque village or take a longer walk to the beach or along the cliff path. This is the watering hole for walkers on the coast path through to Minehead. Lovely olde thatched cottage in a National Trust village. Most people sit in the garden and there are obviously several dogs brought in. We like their "lunch special" of a chunky bread version of cheese on toast coupled with a bowl of home-made soup for around a fiver -Lovely. We have also had a cream tea there and the only criticism is that not being tea drinkers they charged us extra for having coffee with it. Beautiful setting; a quintessential English garden. We have visited Kitnors over the past few years whilst holidaying in Devon but our last visit was very disappointing. Ordered cheese on toast and cheese scones. Thin sliced loaf with thinly processed cheese. Scones were tiny with thinly sliced processed cheese. Small portions of chutney. All served on small tea plates. We’ve always promoted Kitnors to others but sadly not anymore. Staff were friendly but food was poor.

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!
