Beautiful setting; a quintessential English garden. We have visited Kitnors over the past few years whilst holidaying in Devon but our last visit was very disappointing. Ordered cheese on toast and cheese scones. Thin sliced loaf with thinly processed cheese. Scones were tiny with thinly sliced processed cheese. Small portions of chutney. All served on small tea plates. We’ve always promoted Kitnors to others but sadly not anymore. Staff were friendly but food was poor.

Living locally We have often visited Kitnors for the lovely generous and well presented portions and the lovely garden- Whilst the garden hasn’t changed the portions have! I agree some of the previous reviews - a tiny dry cheese scone served with a few slithers of non descript cheese and thimble portion of chutney served on a tiny tea plate and tea for £6.50 ! And the traditional cream tea was the minuscule serving!! So sad that the treat for my father on Fathers Day - was rather like a reenactment of wartime rationing!! Kitnors please raise your game because your garden and setting is wonderful!

Kitnors is in the best location for a tearoom on Exmoor and as a local of 30 years it pains us to write this review .The portions are mean ,overpriced and they need to learn how to bake a decent cake ,whoever makes their cakes needs sacking or to pick up a cook book and learn how to bake ! the very foundation of a good tearoom ,we’ve never had such badly baked sponges in our lives! To have a tea room in Bossington is a total privilege and needs respecting and embracing and making more of an effort with ,it feels like they are going through the motions of basically ripping holiday makers off and forgetting what the locals need as well .We hope this was a one off as now we are reluctant to go back or recommend Kitnors to anyone .

Visited in September, hungry after a long walk. Ordered 2 pulled pork rolls and 1 ham and cheese roll. The pulled pork rolls were served luke warm, with a few low quality crisps, the ham and cheese roll also came with a few low quality crisps. The size of the rolls was not generous, served on small tea plates, the three rolls cost £25.00, which for the size, quality and presentation was poor value. Pretty gardens with friendly welcoming staff, maybe just unlucky with the food on that day.

Yes, £3.20 for an Americano is more than you would pay in a cafe in town but this is a lovely country garden cafe behind a thatched cottage so worth the premium price. Just enjoy the flowers, birds and butterflies. Also, lovely coffee !

If you are happy paying over the odds- you will! For some time now we have used as a yardstick the cost of a cup of americano coffee. At £3.20 this is way out of line and a price we just will not pay. Other prices are also too high so, sorry guys, but you have not got our custom back.

Beautiful garden tea room set in the pretty village of Bossington. Basic menu, but all you need for a light lunch or cream tea. Order at the outdoor counter, good service. Lots of tables and plenty of birds around to watch. Only minor criticism was the cloths used to clean the tables, sanitizer was used but the cloths looked grey and filthy. They may not have been but would be a good idea to invest in some new ones so that they at least look fresh and clean!

We only had a cup of tea here which was OK although I have definitely had tea with more flavour, my purpose in writing this review is because of my serious concerns over Covid precautions. On arrival everything is fine, I was really bemused to see another customer cleaning the chairs and tables before he left; there was an A4 piece of paper taped to the table, I saw it mentioned sticking to government guidelines etc. However not until we were nearly ready to leave did I read the last part, please would customers use the the sanitiser to clean the tables and chairs. A side table had bowls for customers to put their used crockery, on this table was a bundle of cleaning cloths and a couple of bottles of sanitising spray a single hand sanitiser and dozens of wasps, not very enticing. I reluctantly used all of these. I really think this is a very unsatisfactory way of ensuring proper cleaning. As a new customer how does one know the table has been cleaned adequately if at all? Multiple people are handling cloths and spray all day. We visited a NT tearoom earlier in the day their set up was absolutely superb, staff cleaning tables between each customer. I seriously believe this set up needs reviewing.

In a delightful setting, this tearoom offered a friendly welcome, well-spaced tables in a lovely garden with plenty of shade on a sunny day, and tea with a good choice of delicious cakes. Minor gripe- why do tea rooms, particularly this one, close so early? Our main concern though, was that they still expect all customers to clear their own tables and wipe them with a well-used cloth, while in every other tearoom we have visited, the clearing and wiping is done by staff, so that the cloth is not handled by lots of people and the quality of the cleaning can be checked by the owner.

I visit Kitnors regularly , it is a lovely little treat to sit in the garden with my dog and have probably the best coffee in Somerset , Tony is passionate and knowledgeable about coffee and takes great pride in what he provides and rightly so, Kitnors is a fabulous local tea room and their cream teas are outstanding, portions are more than generous and service is always efficient and friendly. Kitnors is a great asset to Bossington and I am only saddened to see the slew of recent horrible reviews all of which just cannot possibly be true , I cannot imagine what a bore it must be to deal with this type of customer. If you want to clean your own table and eat stale crappy scones (and dare I say it- not enough cream!) then this is the spot to go. Kitnors have a monopoly on visitors to the Bossington National Trust car park - and boy do they know it. No need to provide decent service or food because most won’t be back. Decided to make this a part of our day trip to Bossington as the majority of reviews are decent but apparently the more recent reviews give a clearer picture of what to expect. Don’t foresee us being being in the area again but even if we were I’d rather bring my own scones and cream from a local supermarket and pitch up on the beautiful beach just a short walk away- cheaper and far far superior. One positive was the coffee to wash down the cement of a scone lodged in my throat. The wife enjoyed the Victoria sponge.

We visited the other day and I have literally joined tripadvisor to post a review to create some fairness. A customer went absolutely mental at a young girl because his plastic chair broke. It broke because he sat down on it so hard a back leg bent under the force. I said to my partner that's going to be a negative tripadvisor review, so it was no suprise when I came on here to see not one but 2 by the same guy.The people working there did apologise at the time, and made him another drink, They have apologised on here as well, so it's all coming across as being a littel vindictive now. I can also see people on here moaning about the amount of cream they got with there Scone Jam and Cream. That wasn't the case for us, we had plenty and had some left over.We did have a one scone cream tea, and you could add scones, jam, cream, etc as seperate items. If you order the extra scone you wont get extra cream or jam just like you wont get extra fries if you just order an extra burger. I cant see why that is difficult to grasp, but I suppose people want something for nothing, and when they don't get it...TAKE TO THE INTERNET....We love coming here, the food is awesome, it's a lovely place and we'll keep coming back. Thank you Kitnors we appreciate your hard work even though other people have different expectations.

Very disappointing experience at Kitners at the weekend, we ordered two cream teas and we paid extra to have a two scone cream tea each when they brought them out there was just enough cream for one scone so we asked for extra cream, they had a very rude attitude in their response and told us you only get an extra scone when you pay for a two scone cream tea not extra cream or jam so we had to pay an extra £1 each for two extra portions of cream (I have never paid for extra cream anywhere) the scones were also not fresh, when you cut them they crumbled and you could not spread the cream. Whilst standing in the queue we noticed people just getting up and leaving, when we got to our table we noticed it asks you on the table to clean down your own table when you leave which we witnessed wasn’t happening so they are leaving all the cleaning responsibilities to the customers which you can imagine isn’t very reliable. so we cleaned our own table before we sat down with a disgusting filthy dish cloth which everyone was using and a spray, they are basically keeping themselves and they’re staff safe but taking no responsibility for their customers. It was quite a contrast from when I went to Periwinkle a few weeks ago where there was a sanitizer station as soon as you entered and they clean their own tables to ensure their customers safety, I felt very safe in there but I did not in Kitners. I didn’t here one good thing about Kitners last year and after my experience at the weekend I will never be returning or recommending to anyone ever again.

Firstly thanks for responding to my post but I was so angered by your comments I have to respond. I received no apology until i complained (that I received no apology), I received another coffee after I asked for my money back. You the owner did not even come out to see if I was ok. The Plastic chair leg had a ‘Crease’ in it so was damaged before I sat on it, honestly very dangerous and luck I didn’t hurt myself or I would be taking legal action. Two other couples in the garden were shocked by what happened and your lack of interest. Customer care : you need to go on a refresher course or more likely you have never been on one .

Visited here a couple days ago with my partner. Long wait which usually is a great sign so we were very eager for our cream tea!! First disappointment came when my partner asked for a little more cream as there most definitely was not enough for the 2 scones- having already paid we were then told that extra cream is £1 we asked for 2 extras despite being slightly baffled that extra cream isn’t included with the purchase of an extra scone.. so £2 - and surprise surprise card isn’t accepted for purchases under £5 despite having just coughed up £15. Second concern happened when a customers chair broke, accidents happen understandably but I have to concur with the review below written by that customer specifically that the staff didn’t seem at all concerned about the incident. Third issue was not the having to clean our own table (great idea for staff safety) but the state of the clothes was pretty rank- maybe disposable wipes or blue roll might be more hygienic. Last point: Seems as though customer satisfaction isn’t prioritized at this spot and by reading the responses of the owner to negative reviews confirms that... I can see that the customers never seem to be right... what’s the well known saying?! Ahh yes, the customers always right. I never write reviews but felt that in this instance it was necessary.

It’s a shame as this is a lovely little garden with fab coffee and tasty cakes. BUT when compared with other tea rooms in the area they are embarrassingly stingy and money hungry. We ordered extra scones for our family of four expecting that a little extra cream and jam was a given.. oh no not the case- extra creams are £1 for literally a teaspoon!!! VERY disappointing. Recommend checking out Selworthy tea rooms just up the road who have a better set up for social distancing. I was so saddened that this once gorgeous, welcoming cafe is now the opposite. The two people running it want your money and don't care about anything else... . .at least that's how we were made to feel. A tiny plate of salad with rubbery cubes of tofu on tiny plates for nearly £10... shocking. Ask if you may use the toilet, and you are subjected to a defensive rant about the facilities only being available for their staff and themselves (They don't want the hassle of cleaning the loo it seems) and you are given directions to the national trust car park loos down the road.

Used to be our treat to come here after a walk. It clearly has new owners/managment and we have visited twice recently. The food was always a bit pricy but we figured you were paying for the location and lovely garden setting but the food was always very good and well presented, and to be fair they had the monopoly on any one visiting Bossington using the National Trust car park. We ordered coffee and a ham sandwich. The coffee was fine but the sandwich was very disapointing £6 for a basic ham sandwich, a few crisps, a dolop of coldslaw and a chopped up salad that was clearly left over from yesterday as it was brown! Despite being one of the first few people to visit that day. The staff were fine but not really in keepig with " The country garden tea room vide" wearing a selection of faded and grubby looking tea shirts! This was our second visit recently, the first we were not sure and thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt, but for us its the same setting but everything else has changed and not for the better. This used to be my favourite tea garden, the garden was beautiful, everything was immaculate and the waiting staff were smartly dressed. I've seen many owners come and go, some better than others but generally the food and service has been good. Unfortunately over recent years it has gone downhill. The once beautiful garden is now rather unkempt - I appreciate there has been a lot of rain this year which doesn't help but we've had worse weather during the past 30+ years I've been visiting so that is no excuse. The tables are now often covered in crumbs and not wiped clean between customers - and no, I don't only visit mid-summer when it's really busy! Last week I called in after a walk and, whilst looking for a suitable table, I watched a chap put the dog bowl out and then immediately go over and start operating the coffee machine without washing his hands, sorry but I just don't think this is very hygienic and just adds to my concerns about the cleanliness of the place. Please, don't make excuses. Take a step back, think how your actions (or lack there of) may be perceived by a customer and aim to make Kitnors what it used to be - smarten up yourselves, tidy the garden, clean the tables and for heavens sake wash your hands!

I recently took a tour group around Exmoor. We visited numerous cream tea establishments, all in the name of research. The unanimous winner of the best cream tea was Kitnors. Simply the best.

Popped in with a walking group on a drizzly day. Made extremely welcome and I can recommend the lemon & passionfruit cake. Excellent pot of tea - who could ask for more? (Actually, I had my eye on a neighbouring table, where people were tucking into a delicious-looking quiche and salad....)

Booked a high tea and arrived a little early and was shown our table but declined as it was a lovely day and decided to sitting in the wonderful cottage garden. Tea was delivered efficiently and was presented on a tiered plate were we found a truly delicious array of goodies including sandwiches, cakes, scones clotted cream and homemade jam, cheese on toast and chocolate brownies all washed down by our favourite tea.

We walked from Porlock Weir to Bossington and were looking forward to a delicious cream tea, we weren't disappointed. Large fluffy scones, plenty of clotted cream and jam. Even the dogs weren't left out with home baked treats for them, which they expected the next time we stopped for tea!

My wife and I stopped here for a cup of tea on our walk from Minehead to Porlock and back. The tea room is a very pleasant setting and the tea delicious. A quiet oasis and lovely garden setting. Well worth a visit if you are passing.

Went for a cream tea couple of weeks ago, ( not a bank holiday ) and we all thought it had gone down hill since our last visit, none of the vacant tables had been cleared, only one member of staff outside trying to do everything, felt very sorry for him, cream tea came with one scone not two as most places and if you wanted another they were £2 each!!, scone was nice but not large by any means. We were very surprised being a tea room they do not have a toilet on the premises for customers use, thought this would be an essential requirement. Sadly we won’t be going back, plenty of exmoor tea rooms offering far nicer views and better value

This tea room is very isolated but provides welcome refreshment after a good costal walk. Service is very friendly within a grade 2 listed property with its period charm. Cream teas are a basic menu requirement in this area and this tea room has a variety of them. Panninis are also served here and for those with a bit of hunger are well proportioned and tasty.

Thank you Katie and all the staff at Kitnors for the most glorious high tea today. We had a lovely walk from Bossington to Porkock and back and sat in the lovely garden in the April sunshine to enjoy our high tea. We visit every year and it just gets better and better. Today we had hot melted brie with cranberry and hot squares of leek bacon and cheese quiche with our savoury sandwiches. A large selection as you will see from the photos. The scones were fresh and warm with lashings of clotted cream and jam. We had plenty of hot water to top up our teapot as well. A truly splendid afternoon. We will be back to see you all again soon. Many thanks, Kitnors is a treasure.

Enjoyed a really good cup of tea here on an early spring afternoon. Lovely to sit in pretty tea garden. Friendly service. Very good scones - and the ginger cake was even better!

Superb cream tea with fantastic scones! Cream and jam in proper dishes with spoons, not following the recent fashion for serving plastic tubs of clotted cream seen elsewhere recently. Friendly service and very reasonable prices. Garden looked like it would be lovely on a nice day, but indoors was cozy as hailstones rained down outside and the gales blew yesterday!

I had messaged them earlier in the day to enquire if they did a gluten free scone, very prompt reply and they held one back for us.

We visited as a group of four during a long walk we had done in the area. We had three cream teas with scones jam, and clotted cream. One of our party had the Victoria sponge which was delicious. One of the usual issues in tearooms is being a little bit stingy with clotted cream-however I am pleased to say this was definitely not the case. The portions were generous and the staff were lovely to deal with.

Firstly, I want to address the “issue” with the loo, yep you have to walk to the ones in the car park, it’s not far and they are perfectly fine. I totally understand Kitnors position on this. It really is not an issue, so don’t let that put you off!!

This is a lovely tearoom in a beautiful scenic little village. The tea, the scones and the cakes were excellent and fresh and the service was very pleasant. We will certainly be back. From the car park there are some very nice walks.

My wife and I stopped here after walking the S West Coast path from Minehead. We were in need of a light lunch and this was the ideal place. We shared a very nice toasted sandwich washed down with a good pot of tea and a cafetiere of coffee. We sat in the lovely back garden and were lucky enough to spot a hummingbird hawkmoth feeding on jasmine flowers. Good service and well priced.

My husband and I stopped at Kitnors for a cream tea on our South West Coast Path walk from Minehead to Porlock Weir, and it was lovely. The garden was beautiful, and our tea and scones were outstanding. The servers could maybe have been a little more welcoming, but overall I thought the service was good. Although one of the staff, I forget his name, was very friendly and asked us about our trip and told us how much he likes the b&b; we were staying in that night. We enjoyed our tea at Kitnors and would recommend it.

Been visiting for 30 plus years. Found the usual friendly service not as it was. Not sure of any other tea room that serves a 1 scone cream tea. It's my over indulgent holiday treat so I chose the additional scone option and upgraded to whortleberry jam. No increase in cream or jam portion to match - had to make serving for 1 scone stretch to 2. Strawberry jam served instead of whortleberry but still charged for. Little things that leave a taint.

Turned up at this lovely little tearoom late in the day. Only 15 minutes before closing. Although the gentleman didn’t seem too happy, we were still served by friendly staff and we weren’t rushed to finish. Very beautiful, cosy little cottage. Would definitely re visit.

After a walk up to Hurlstone a point it’s over to Kitnors for a cream tea. The service was good and speedy and the food and drink arrived promptly. The cream tea was excellent with the scones being warm which is always a plus. But there was three of us and we all ordered 2 scones and really could have done with more cream and jam.

We have visited this tea room many times over the years. This year, after a break of some three years we had a great walk from Porlock to Bossington to enjoy a light lunch. Unfortunately it was not a good experience. The drinks came straight away but We waited over an hour for a toasted sandwich which was average at best and not worth the wait or the price.Other people left because of the wait before eating. When I commentated on the time taken to serve the answer was how could the staff guess the delay. On looking around I thought the whole enterprise was tired. The grass was unkempt, the rest of the garden dilapidated and using foul toilets in the public car park unpleasant. The tables took ages to clear and when they were they were not wiped and all the crumbs etc left. What was on our list of places to visit is no more. Such a shame.

A walk through a green tunnel brings you out into the most idyllic little cottage garden, and simply one of the best cream teas I've ever had, served by friendly and attentive staff. Definitely try the whortleberry jam.

We found this tearoom en route from Minehead to Porlock Weir on the South West Coast Path. The setting is picture perfect: thatched roof, delightful garden, gorgeous village in a fantastic part of the country. However, the food was very average. Homemade sandwich but with plastic ham, tasteless cheddar in the ploughman’s and to top it off, the centre of one of the scones was raw.

Popped in to what we thought was a quaint little tea room, after a long walk around the cliffs. As we were walking through to go outside a voice came from behind telling me to hurry up and move along as I was holding up the queue, we hadn't stopped walking, weren't stood still and definitely weren't holding up any queue, I turned around to see one person, carrying a tray with a cup of tea on. If we had held him up then all he had to do was say, excuse me could I just get passed, instead of speaking to us the way he did. We turned around and walked straight back out. Certainly not welcoming and a very rude man!!

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!
