Good quality, well priced traditional pub grub, served with a friendly smile and helpful staff. We were in Dunster for 3 nights and we pre-booked dinner here on our first night. When we arrived there were four other people in the pub, but by 8.00 it was full, because that Thursday was quiz night. We tried to have dinner here on Saturday night, but it was full booked. My advice is telephone and book ahead if the want to eat here.

The staff take time to clean the tables thoroughly after they are vacated which is sometimes forgotten in other places. The food wasn't great but it is cheap and at that price point you can't have everything. The staff are friendly and Nelson the Parrot is a novelty with endless noises.

Staying in Dunster for the first time, a couple of pubs were recommended to us but we liked the look of the menu at the Forresters best, so we went in. It was great - we were made very welcome, one of the regulars suggested a local beer and the menu featured home cooked food - none of this microwaved stuff. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming and we really enjoyed ourselves and can recommend it.

We had a really great Friday evening in the Forester’s. The traditional pub food was good at a great price (my wife had scampi and I had a lovely ham, egg and chips), well kept ales (Otter Bitter) and a great, very welcoming atmosphere at a ‘local’s’ pub. When we made our reservation, we were encouraged to come on the Friday as there would be live music. The band ‘Minnie Hates The Hoover’ entertained the whole pub for over 3 hours, They played a great mix from the last 50 years, with audience participation (singing and dancing) encouraged. Thank you!

Enjoyed a delightfully engaging evening in here on a wet and windy Saturday evening off season. Bartender Gavin was the perfect host, generously including us in conversation with local acquaintances. Food was homely and affordable and drinks recommendations flowed freely. I often don’t enjoy the atmosphere or energy in local pubs but this trip was great fun and I’d absolutely recommend. There’s a pool table and a chatty parrot, too. It was also wonderful to get local history and tips to sites/places we wouldn’t have found out about - including the largest tree in England, which is just around the corner.

We booked a table at the pub rather last minute as we were let down by the hotel we were staying in as their restaurant isn’t open. Although I would describe the menu as basic ‘pub grub’ please don’t be put off visiting as it was excellent food and excellent value for money. We both had home made steak and ale pie with potatoes and vegetables - price for this and two large glasses of wine and 3 beers AND a dessert was under £50. We always make a point of visiting this pub every year on our annual trip to minehead, this year the pub was much better than usual with plenty of people eating and drinking on the saturday, Lovely warm fire helps in the winter but the old parrot next to the pool table is wonderful, Nelson acts like John parrot on the snooker providing accurate comments on the shots you miss although when you do a good shot he still tends to insult you. Beautiful setting; a quintessential English garden. We have visited Kitnors over the past few years whilst holidaying in Devon but our last visit was very disappointing. Ordered cheese on toast and cheese scones. Thin sliced loaf with thinly processed cheese. Scones were tiny with thinly sliced processed cheese. Small portions of chutney. All served on small tea plates. We’ve always promoted Kitnors to others but sadly not anymore. Staff were friendly but food was poor.

I reviewed the White Horse on the 18 April 24 when it re-opened after a period of failure. It was wonderful then just to have the pub open for drinks but now Lisa and Tim have a limited menu serving meals from Thursdays to Saturdays evenings and Sunday lunches. Some friends dropped into stay the other night and treated us to a Sunday lunch at the pub, the first since re-opening, which was not just good but exceptional. The beef was first rate with five vegetables beautifully cooked. The place was booked out and all by locals enjoying great hospitality filling the room with animated conversation. We shall be going again as soon as we can! On Mondays our 1759 Guinness Club is now able to regain our home in Stogumber’s White Horse. Last night we met to enjoy Irelands greatest stout and gained a fair few members. Word is spreading!
