Four of us stopped here for a hearty breakfast before embarking on a day of ale and Als Diner served up a great stomach liner. Although not the most aesthetically pleasing, AL’s Diner cooks basic ingredients to perfection. Poached eggs were a winner and we recommend the boxing ring special, crumpets on a breakfast works a treat. Nice service. A solid 4 star establishment.

Just changed hand. Craig who I have known for years has taken on the mantle. Good pub and always someone I know in there, everyone friendly

We were out walking on a Friday afternoon and scurried into this community café because it had started to rain. We had dressed for moderately wet weather, but the wind was in our faces and thus better avoided. Besides the chance to have a sit-down, and a coffee, was too good to ignore. The community café here in Lyde Green is housed in the community centre and, being well-after lunch-time, it was not too busy. We ordered two medium sized Americano Coffee’s with hot milk from the pleasant waitress at the servery. The coffee arrived promptly and it was acceptably hot, but sadly it was not very strong. It lacked the rich bitter flavours that we particularly like when we have a coffee out. The cost was £2.75 per medium-sized cup, so it was about the going rate, but other local cafés provide a better, and stronger, cup of coffee.

Was looking forward to this as had a great Christmas meal here a couple of years ago. However, I found the menu uninspiring and only dish I fancied was slow roast lamb shank Shepards Pie. I put aside it was the most expensive dish on menu at £24.25 expecting succulent lamb either flaked into or embedded in the minced lamb, gravy and topped with cheese crusted mashed potato.Instead a shallow dish arrived with lamb shank resting on top poor side up, and the dish was only half full of potato with only a thin trace of minced lamb and gravy. The lamb was pink and rubbery, not falling off the bone at all. The potato was not crispy. The buttered greens had burnt bits and portion was small. For first time in my life I sent a meal back and while I was offered another choice there was no apology, and as family meal I ate side order of onion rings and just asked for chips so as not to wait. When chips came it was with smallest pot of sauce I have ever seen so bland eating alone. While the main, side and chips were taken off the bill, this was not explained and I still had to pay for desert and coffee. The other meals were OK, average pub food, not gastro pub level.

Nice pub and good beer selection, could do with a little bit of background music as it can feel very quiet and as though everyone is listening in

Great service and sensibly priced cocktails. A hidden gem for a pre- dinner drink

I've tried to mark this place as closed but it hasn't kicked in. We tried to visit on Sunday, but arrived to find the premises vacated and all the doors very closed. A local wandered past and said the pub had shut down about a week ago. So not much point visiting til the situation changes!

The only way is up for this place. The food is dire, cheese and potato pie was probably the worst thing I’ve ever eaten. Most food was cooked from frozen and the vegetables were insipid. Go in for a pint, it’s nice inside for a drink, but you’d get more enjoyment from watching your money burn than eat their food.
