If we decide to go out for breakfast on a special occasion (birthday) we usually go to somewhere else close to The Beehive, but decided to try the beehive, to support another local business. We ordered some coffees, which were nice and also ordered two English breakfasts. The breakfasts were tasteless, definitely cheap produce and everything was cooked in a lot of oil. Weatherspoons would have been a better breakfast! It's such a shame as you want to support local businesses, but often you can be disappointed. Won't be going back for food.

Wouldn’t recommend the pancakes, they were difficult to eat, not sure if they were made fresh and overcooked or put in a toaster from frozen. The bacon was nice but too much. When we came in it was busy and we had to sit by the window, five minutes later when proper seats became available we weren’t offered them which I thought was unfair. I ate the food because I paid for it and was hungry not necessarily because it was nice, which was a mistake.

Never been to the Beehive before but the overall experience was good. A mix of a traditional English menu of Paninis, Jacket Potatoes, etc and then the surprise was the Chinese menu. We did not try that but the food looked great and by the looks of the plates cleared by the Chinese clientele (of which there were many) it was probably authentic and well worth it. Will definitely try that next time and will be 100% more authentic that the usual UK Chinese fare which is just Anglicised homogenous gloop and not real Chinese food.

The freakshakes look spectacular and I have been wanting to try them for ages! Unfortunately we were disappointed, it became clear they use the cheapest ingredients possible as soon as I tasted the doughnut. Milkshake itself didn’t taste great either so it wasn’t just the case of the toppings on it. 2 stars for the ever so friendly staff!

I went to the cafe to do some work. I ordered my food before I was advised the WiFi wasn’t working. The main breakfasts stop being served at 12pm, so I ordered individual items- the end bill was £18 - very expensive for a breakfast and coffee. The tomato came raw - when ordering tomato with a breakfast I expected it to be cooked. The food was ok - bit greasy and nothing special. Maybe the Asian food is nice, but it wasn’t obvious if any items were vegan. All in all, I didn’t enjoy my experience and wouldn’t go back. Very disappointing- I’ve wanted to try this place for a while 😞

Seen a review in local paper so was passing by and thought to give it a try as we love quality milkshakes and the freak shakes are quality at first glance the price seams high but when they arrive and you finish it the price is reasonable for what you get we had the banana and the custard queen freak shakes on the banana one fresh banana marsh mallows and popcorn with a ring donut topping off the top with cream the custard queen again topped with a doughnut and cream biscuits The place was very busy from the main meals coming out they look very tasty will definitely be back to try the other freak shakes on the menu and possibly some main meals Staff tried hard to accommodate everyone that came in

We’ve been to the Beehive a few times before. It was a really nice place for a coffee and sandwich. It’s obviously been taken over since our last visit and gone down hill dramatically. They aren’t catering for the coffee shop clientele, the sandwich I had was all bread with a sliver of chewy chicken and coronation sauce from a jar. My partner’s jacket potato looked like to had been cooked on bonfire night a year ago and the coleslaw was cheap and nasty. The Chinese food looked nice and there were many Asians in there which is a good sign. So try the Chinese food but stay well clear of the “coffee shop” food.

No wifi available. Complained about my coffee being weak. Made to feel quite awkward. Charging top end price, £4 29 for an oat latte, but service and drink not reflected in that. Disappointing as used to be a lovely coffeeshop.

This place looks like a café from the outside, but once you step in, you’ll find it serves a variety of Hong Kong-style stir-fried dishes and small plates. The flavors are authentic and haven’t been compromised to suit British tastes. We tried the poached beef in chili oil (Sichuan style), the salt and pepper squid, the dry-fried green beans, the soy sauce chicken, salt ans pepper pork chop and the stir-fried clams. Every dish was incredibly delicious and captured the true essence of Hong Kong cuisine. We also took some photos that show how appetizing everything looked. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Hong Kong flavors!

This was one of the worst dining experiences myself and my girlfriend have ever been on. The menu is very limited with overpriced items making you think the food will be of good quality but it is definitely the opposite. The starters we had included the crab claws which were some processed potato/crab lump with a crab claw shoved into it. The karage chicken which was just some cheap fried cut of chicken in a katsu coating and a side of dry salad. The mains were the worst, yakisoba noodles that consisted of over done, baby food texture like udon noodles with cheap cuts of chicken dumped on a plate. A cheesy seafood ramen bowl which was just cheap cheese product dumped on again, overdone disgusting udon noodles and topped with undercooked prawns, the irony is if they just cooked each of these items the opposite it would've been nicer. And finally the katsu pork which first bite, was pure fatty gristle and then a side of cold lumpy katsu curry and hard rice. Overall the worst chinese meal I have had period. The owner then had nerve, when asked to take the mains off of our bill, that the mains were some of their top sellers, bull****. And even when prompted to remove these items he returned with only 1 main taken off, anyone reading this do not ever choose to dine here, you will severely regret it! I fell victim to this fake highly rated place on first table don't do it too.

I ordered a gf chicken and avocado sandwich that came with crisps and was extremely disappointed. The sandwich was over 10 pounds . Small in size with very little fillings. Two small pieces of chicken in the sandwich. On the side was only a 5 crisps.. little salad. I had to go home and have more food and I don't really have a large appetite. The coffee was also over 4 pound and really more expensive than anywhere else I'd bought in both Bristol and London! I'm not sure why this place is so pricey as it's not anything special. I could of bought a sandwich in the supermarket that tasted better and for better value too!!

Not the best experience I'm afraid. It appears that solo customers are frowned upon here. Took a while to approach me to show me to a table. Was given menus including some weird Asian menu??? What's that about. Stick to what you did do. And why are half the staff Chinese??? Couldn't understand them and they also messed up my order. I asked for a peppermint tea, ham and cheese panini and I always like a cold drink too, so a lemonade. Did they give me the lemonade, no! Did they charge me for it? Yes when I checked. The panini was ok but you are only served about a 1/4 bag of crisps with is and the tiniest amount of side salad. Not worth the £. It won't be the first place I think of to go again.

What has happened to the Beehive?! 😔 Only been in a couple of times previously but had lovely food. £6.80 for a bacon sandwich which my Daughter enjoyed but the cheesy chips were shocking, nearly £5 for a small bowl of very dry chips with tasteless cheese melted over the top. Very overpriced, I could not believe the prices of the freak shakes. Sadly we had 2 glasses of water as couldn't afford anything else, upon leaving though a table near us had 2 plates from the Asian menu and it looked lovely. Sadly we won't return.

Terrible service. Would I return… absolutely not. Every couple of months I pop in for a coffee when I’m in Downend, never had a problem before but yesterday the service was awful, it felt like customers were an inconvenience to the girls. It’s always been a very cramped cafe, but I visit solo so it’s never really bothered me, but yesterday they crammed so many people in, you may aswell have someone sipping their coffee sat on your lap! I waited a while for my coffee which didn’t seem as warm as usual, I’m sure the price of the cakes has also increased since my last visit. I wouldn’t recommend the cafe to young families with pushchairs or dogs. A lot of people couldn’t get in due to lack of space, several of the customers who were turned away also noticed how abrupt and rude the staff were to them, so I’m not surprised they turned around and went elsewhere. From now on I will visit somewhere else with a much better welcome.

Yes this place is known for its instagramable shakes, but that’s where it stops. The staff are miserable, the shakes aren’t really all that taste wise (like most insta food places) and the food is absolutely diabolical. The breakfasts are a mess of over cooked deep fried bacon… yep you read that right, they deep fried the bacon!! The eggs are so over done they’re crying out to be uncracked and put back in their shell and shoved back up the hens backside. It’s just pure laziness and arrogance by the Chinese chefs and owners.

There are 2 previous one star reviews for the evening Asian offering. I wish I’d checked the reviews before I fell into exactly the same trap. We used to love coming here, the freak-shakes were always tip top, the food great and the service friendly. Now it just seems an exercise into how many people can be crammed in and how much money they can make. Came in today about 1:30-2pm and the cafe was almost full. We had to wait which we didn't mind, but twice we were asked by staff if we wanted to share a table with strangers (we didn't) and then when we were finally seated, my husband went to the toilet and a member of staff asked if anyone was sitting in his space! There's no personal touch anymore, it's just about cramming everyone in. Maybe they could remove the weird candyfloss machine ( that wasn't turned on) by the front door that looks completely at odds with everything else in the cafe and put in an extra table?! The freak-shakes themselves tasted great, some of the best milkshakes I've had, but the toppings were less than they used to be, the cream was cheap and the donuts were completely dry and stale! Not worth the money! We also ordered panini's and chips, the chips were great, but my brie and bacon panini had so much cranberry sauce in that I had to scrape it out and the bacon had all the soft fat on it which was not pleasant. We used to travel across to visit this cafe and bring friends and family, from now on we will go elsewhere.

Great service and sensibly priced cocktails. A hidden gem for a pre- dinner drink

Went to celebrate a birthday on 2nd Dec. The decor and atmosphere were warm and lovely, the food was gorgeous and the staff were wonderful. I forget the name of the chap who served us (Valor?) but he was kind, friendly, helpful and funny. Good cider too! It was quite expensive but honestly it was worth it, especially as a gluten intolerant vegetarian... So many good options.

Waited 10 minutes before order was taken and another 15 at the window to receive the food. Had to repeat my order twice and once again at the window so the cashier could ring it up. Got home with food and the entire order was still not right. The wait alone was horrendous and the food wasn’t any better. I will definitely avoid this location in the future.
