Called in with my family whilst visiting friends. The Sunday lunch was superb, plenty of food and perfectly cooked beef. My wife had the vegetarian option and she said it was the best one she has had (we visit chef and brewer brand a lot) this is one of the best we have been to. Great service and a really nice place

Once again disappointing! It used to be so welcoming, which is probably why we give it another chance. Today it was chilly and unwelcoming . Opted for a cheese toastie, as only wanted a light lunch, but sadly this wasn’t available!! So no bread, and no cheese at 1240? Remarkable! The place has become a bit utilitarian, and shabby. When we commented that it was cold today, we were faced with lots of excuses, but no apologies. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.

Went for lunch as this is a lovely restaurant with pretty surroundings and not too far to travel. Took advantage of special mains deal and was pleased to have extra choices of baked sea trout or duck pie. I chose the sea trout and it was very tasty and the glazed chantenay carrots and crushed new potatoes a nice change. The fish and chips was freshly cooked and good portion of fish with crispy batter. Very nice to have alternatives to ususl menu. The plates were warm and the food hot. We were seated quickly and both members of serving staff were extremely friendly.

A little dissapointed. Starters, very nice. Two mains, Mushroom Pie and "Lamb Shank Sheppards Pie" This sounded great. First off, the Mushroom Pie contained 3 slices of mushroom and no taste to the pie crust at all. Lamb Shank Sheppards Pie, baked into a minced lamb & veg pie topped with creamy mash with a somerset cheddar crust. This is what I came for. What I got, well talk about a let down. Dish of mash with a shank sat on top, a spoonful of greens on the side and some gravey!! What happened to the minced lamb and veg pie and somerset cheddar. Such a shame as taste wise, mine was OK. Sorry but this was a very poor show for what was supposed to be a lovelly meal out. We did get one meal off the bill at least this was something. Still a dissapointing visit and a non returning customer.

As a Chef and Brewer, it struggles from most things on the menu being delivered. The spinach bubble and squeak, I don't think had seen a frying pan in its life. Overall, it was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. The staff did kind of forget about us after desert and we had to go hunting for the them, but they were lovely when they were there.

What has happened to the Rose and Crown, this was one a very popular pub serving good food from a lovely menu but not now. Lunch time visit, very poor menu choice, food not very inspiring food ..... and hot food served on COLD plates, plates were cold not tepid or warm but COLD - big let down. Menu choice, food and service not what it was, shall not be returning.

We are regulars and have had various experiences when food has been average to poor but last night I really enjoyed my meal, it was nicely cooked. Dropped 1 star because the pudding wasn't really hot so didn't melt with the sauce & I felt my side salad and fries with my steak was on the small size portion wise. I would however like to say that yesterday the staff were especially fantastic, friendly, efficient and not over baring, I don't know name of my waitress and wish I did because she is brilliant and I would go back just to have her serve me again! Obviously we will be back! Ps please ask them to change the chefs board back! We miss the Korean chicken!!

Disappointed - been coming to this pub for a good few years so had it book for a family members birthday. When food came after ordering we were all disappointed to see portions were smaller than usual. A member of the party ordered a cheese & Bacon burger and this had a miniscule amount of cheese in. The fish on the cod dish was rubbery also. Desserts were ordered and came out wrong for 2 family members. One dessert was meant to come with a jug of cream but came out with a jug of custard. It took at least 10mins for a jug of cream to be brought back out. For somewhere that was reliably good for years we had a disappointing visit :(

One of the best meals we had on our trip and a great find. We booked a late dinner because all the pubs were booked up for father's day so options were limited. We enjoyed every moment and the late table was well worth the wait. The venue is old and beautifully maintained and the staff were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the Sunday roast was incredibly generous. My only complaint is that it is too far for us to visit more often!

We knew that we were in trouble when our food arrived two minutes after being ordered and before our drinks from the bar. We both ordered the trio of Roasts and unfortunately the meat tasted stale and the vegetables had no taste at all (almost tasted like they were out of the packet and were complete mush). The roast potatoes were dry and had the texture of being left under a heated lamp all afternoon. We also had to send back our Cauliflower cheese because there was no cheese on it (or it had potentially evaporated) , the replacement cauliflower cheese that was sent back had even less cheese which was a total joke. When we asked about this we were told it was pre made and that there was nothing that could be done. There was also crackling which was so hard that it nearly caused damage to my teeth. The whole plate was also drowned in gravy which had little or no flavour. We paid just she of £45 for two roasts and two soft drinks which considering the food quality was a total rip off. Definitely think again or look for alternatives before booking.

Posting this on behalf of my partner (she can’t currently access her own account) who went for lunch with a friend to this pub on Tuesday, the 21st of May 2024. She’s asked me to confirm that the experience was wonderful and that her and her friend had a very enjoyable lunch date. They both had the garlic mushrooms to start, the chicken burger for mains and a mini pudding and hot drink to finish. The food was beautifully cooked, very tasty and was great value for money. Also she said that all members of staff that she encountered were very friendly and helpful. She’s definitely coming back for another chicken burger!! 😋 5 🌟 and highly recommended.

Came here for a works birthday outing the other week. Little choice on menu for a light lunch. Was told the cheese toastie was not available unfortunately so went for the fishcake dish which was basically a small fishcake with some lettuce leaves which I paid nearly a tenner for and it was okay but would have liked two if I'm honest. This has become one of our favourite places for eating out. I haven't had a bad experience until Sunday. I had a roast when it came out it had a lot of gravy on it. I have been to The Rose and Crown quite a number of times over the years for lunch and evening meals. This time I went there with my daughters for brunch but left rather disappointed. The smoked salmon on sourdough was spoiled by the poached eggs being undercooked and slimy. My daughters cooked breakfasts were served with toast that was still white and with no butter. The baked beans had a "film" on the top like they had been sitting around a while. The avocado on the vegetarian breakfast looked nothing like avocado - more like plastic - and tasted soggy and sour. The vegetarian sausages were grey with no colour whatsoever. All in all a poor experience. I will go there again for meals at other times of day in the future but won't be rushing back for brunch.

We have been eating at Rose and Crown for the last 8 years and have never had a bad experience. Unfortunately today was the first time that we had a bad experience with the service. The waitress (short dark hair) was quite rude and abrupt with us. My friends asked for some water and she rudely exclaimed that there is some already on the table ( the bottle was nearly empty). My friend felt bad and didn't say anything at the time. I was very disappointed with the people skills this specific lady has and would advise that she receives some training in being hospitable.

My Wife took my mother out for lunch today and whilst the food and atmosphere was very good I must give comment to the poor automated phone line. I tried to call and pay the bill as a surprise for my wife and mother yet calling 9 times during a 45 minute period and all one could get is Clare - an automated service transferring me to someone who could help........ but no answer. I gave many different reasons to speak to someone (including a need to make a large party booking) and in all cases failed miserably. Big shame as nice venue, nice food yet maybe missing out on business due to Clare - automated phone system that clearly does not work.

Such a disappointment - had the fish and chips - fish very wet (maybe cooked from frozen?) making the batter wet and soggy. But that was not the worst part - it was deep fried in old stale oil imparting an unpleasant flavour to the fish, which kept repeating all evening. Such a simple mistake - so why was it allowed to happen? Could have been so good but will think twice about returning.

Nice atmosphere, service was ok. The worst is the core business, drinks and food. Somewhat reduced choice of ales, just mainstream ones, mediocre food. We had a steak pie with very little meat inside and a very bland gravy. The accompanying roasted potatoes were so bad we couldn't finish them (and we have been grieving since then because we had to leave them behind...a first for us). The other meal was the keralan chickpeas curry, also very bland, tasted like a microwaved frozen ready meal. We won't come back.

Amazing! The Bolero Lounge accommodated 33 people for a staff party and were Absolutely Fabulous! They kept in contact in the run up to the event and were on hand to answer my relentless questions and concerns, on the day they ensured we were happy for food to be served and managed to get all meals out in a timely manner with no issues; as well as accommodating all dietary needs! They were super accommodating throughout and even split the bill for each individual at the end of the night! The staff were absolutely amazing both on the day and in the lead up to the event - special shout out to Micheal who never failed to go the extra mile! If we decide to go out for breakfast on a special occasion (birthday) we usually go to somewhere else close to The Beehive, but decided to try the beehive, to support another local business. We ordered some coffees, which were nice and also ordered two English breakfasts. The breakfasts were tasteless, definitely cheap produce and everything was cooked in a lot of oil. Weatherspoons would have been a better breakfast! It's such a shame as you want to support local businesses, but often you can be disappointed. Won't be going back for food.
