We went to the Grumpy Mole for dinner. We have been several times but not for a while. We weren't disappointed. Great food and excellent service. Even though they were busy as the warm weather had encouraged more outside diners, we weren't rushed and had a lovely meal. Calamari, scallops, Stroganoff and Steak and Ale Pie which was on the specials menu, all very delicious.

We went for a ‘Supper Club’ dinner on a Saturday evening. Our first impression was to see ants on the window counter & food debris over the floor. Once we were seated we found one dirty wine glass & one chipped wine glass on our table for two. We knew in advance what the menu would be - & it sounded interesting. We also knew that the wine choice was limited. We ordered a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (only one available) which was warm when poured. When we complained we were given a replacement bottle which unfortunately was no further chilled & for the price was disappointing. (There are far cheaper Sauvignon blancs which are excellent.) Onion bites were delicious. The starter of asparagus with “crispy south lodge egg” was delicious although strange that the asparagus was served cold but the egg was hot. Sirloin, Roscoff onion with Hasselback in a bordelaise sauce was tasty. Disappointing that this was served on cold plates. The potatoes were delicious but it was a shame to have served such thick slices of meat with a lot of fat on. Pudding of salted caramel & hazelnut choux was nicely presented, tasted good but was stodgy. The staff were helpful & friendly but obviously inexperienced. Our booking stated the dinner was 7pm - 11.30. We were asked to arrive promptly by 7pm - which we did. However the most disappointing thing of the evening was that the service was so rushed, even though we tried to slow it down, so we were finished by 8pm. The whole meal took one hour! No three course dinner should be so hurried. We had ordered a cab for 10pm so we had to phone to ask the taxi to come earlier. The evening was a disappointing experience. Dinner cost £55 & wine £30.

First time here but have passed it on so many occasions . We had breakfasts from full English, pancakes and eggs Benedict. Athe food was lovely and the staff pleasant. The venue is very modern and has a really good atmosphere. Will definitely visit again

Friendly service, and a good selection of well looked after ales.

The pub has several smallish, intimate rooms. The Badger beer was nice and my wife was happy with her Sauvignon. We started with scampi, sharing two nicely cooked and ample servings between three of us. It came with a small leafy salad that complemented the scampi well. My burger was thick and juicy. Cooked to the right point. Served with good hot and crispy fries. My companions had the chicken and bacon pie of the day. It was a proper, fully enclosed pie served with well cooked vegetables and a generous helping of good mashed potatoes. Both were happy with their choice. We had definitely had enough to eat and had to decline pudding but the list was tempting. Post-lunch coffee was good and we had it in the sunny garden. Service was timely, attentive and friendly.

We found this place recently and have since been there several times for lunch. Very tasty and freshly produced food accompanied by great coffee. Excellent and friendly service in a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. So very sorry and disappointed to hear this bistro is closing. Dorking will be poorer for its absence.

A beautiful pub and environment, that I have dined at many times and a pub I have visited for over 40 years. I particularly enjoy the slow cooked lamb shoulder, but the vegetable portion when presented on the plate could be improved, only, one large roasted carrot half and some cabbage, enjoyable but not enough, why not add some cauliflower, swede or parsnip? We ordered another side of veg for two people, that arrived quickly, but at £5.95 for only two carrots and more cabbage, disappointing. I accept that lamb is more expensive but a varied selection of veg would complement this lovely meal . Other meals and deserts have been enjoyed by us, all the staff and management are very efficient nice people.
