Popped in here for a quick pint today and was delighted to see cask ESB on. And what a cracking pint it was. This pub obviously knows how to take care of the ale - so many pubs don't care any more. The ESB was superb. My only regret was that I could only have one as I was driving. This is a proper, unpretentious pub. The lady who served me was extremely pleasant and welcoming, perhaps the manager. No short pints here, which also seems to have become the norm everywhere else. Hard to believe the majority of pubs used to be like this. This pub was a real breath of fresh air - I will be back - without the car! Soon.

The pub in my opinion, sells the best real ale in the town. The draught beer is always as hoped for, and the staff are very friendly and professional. Good outside drinking area too. For Dorking, the prices are fair also. If you are a real ale drinker, it is a must!

On balance, a pretty decent pub. Fullers / Dark Star beers. Sadly at 2 pm on Sunday, there are only two others here. One is drinking lager. It’s probably no surprise then that the pint of ale I have (Dark Star Hophead) is at a good temperature and looks the part, but is devoid of life and character. It is inoffensive, but lacks what makes a pint of this fine brew special. 5 real ales with the turnover evident right now is sadly too many for them to be at their best. Interesting to see the two other customers vaping at the bar. It’s the first time I’ve seen it in a pub, oddly. It doesn’t create an unpleasant atmosphere, so it doesn’t worry me. I would not have noticed had I not seen it. Their conversation with expletives every other word is actually quite entertaining.

Visited for lunch through the recommendation of a friend. We walked in as a customer was bizarrely swinging a tennis racket around and went to jokingly hit us with it. Slightly bemused we said hi to the girl behind the bar who ignored us. The place was very tired and dirty with odd objects dotted around which didn’t seem to fit in with the old charm of the pub. The menu looked uninspiring and due to the lack of any friendly atmosphere we left and went to the Queens Head a mere few meters away, which was lovely.

Quiet Tuesday lunch time. Traditional pub interior, family run tenant business from Fullers. London Pride was therefore very good. Also on hand pump was ESB, Lacons Encore and two beers from Dark Star (owned by Fuller's) namely Hophead and American Pale Ale. Menu with several options and at very reasonable prices. Chicken and chorizo pie, mash, peas and onion gravy for £8 is not half bad, hot and tasty too. Staff were friendly and pub is well worth a visit.

We found a 'Golliwogg' on a shelf in this pub. After we took the disrespectful symbol down from the shelf, a member of the bar staff asked us to leave saying "her close friend made this for her". The fact this member of staff tried to defend this item of controversy is appalling and ignorant.

When you're just passing through it's fantastic to find a pub where you can feel accepted and part of the crowd. Even better when you happen to hit it on a special night where everyone is genuinely enjoying themselves and the owner and staff are going out of their way to make it fun. Last night was my first night on my own in Dorking and after having walked miles from one end of town to the other and through every footpath and twisting road to see where it led I was tired and hungry. Unfortunately, dinner is only served Thursday-Saturday. (No surprise there; I had forgotten it was a bank holiday and kitchens were closed in pretty much every pub in town.) No matter, I stayed to have a cool drink. It turned out to be movie night at The Cricketers. Now, I had just watched "Eddie The Eagle," which I had just watched twice the week before. I sat and I talked and Barman Alf and I did corny commercials for zessstttty Cornish Orchard Lemonade. Before I knew it, the movie started to a full house. A coffee house cup of delicious, slightly sweet popcorn appeared behind me and I held myself back from inhaling it. A few minutes later when I turned back to take a sip of my drink...fresh cup of popcorn!! That must have happened five times! I was truly amazed at encountering that degree of hospitality outside of a fifties sitcom. Not a soul left before the end credits. I saw tears on some male faces. I'd say all present had a great time and not just because Team GB did so brilliantly in the Olympics this month. Even now, I've been having a chat with the very intelligent and funny barmaid Carrie, so the staff last night was no fluke. Next time you're in Dorking, give the Dorking Chicken a pass and drop in here for a drink, a bite, and, if you time it right, a movie and endless popcorn.

A nice version of a traditional English pub, rather than one that has been "gourmet-ed" or "gastro-ed". They have movies on a Monday which is a good idea, but the main reason I would return are the simply amazing sandwiches. I am not particularly a sandwich fan normally but the Saltbox ones are delicious - pastrami was out of this world. A good range of beers and friendly service. It's not really a local for me but I would recommend it and return.

Family dinner for 6 , Friday evening. Asked for a quieter table & were taken to a circular one in the rear room. Nicely handled, no fuss & helped for our hard of hearing relative. Thanks. The meal service was very friendly , tho I didn’t find the drinks list until later. It was in front of me! Good was good , we had a variety of dishes starters, mains & desert. All done well. Good selection of non alcoholic drinks where needed. First time in the White Horse for years. Well worth it & very nice. Thanks to the staff.
