I recently had the pleasure of staying at The White Horse in Dorking, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. We were lucky enough to receive an upgrade to a beautiful room, which was both stylish and comfortable—perfect for a relaxing stay. The highlight of our visit was joining in the Christmas quiz, which was a fun and festive way to spend the evening. It added such a lively, community feel to the atmosphere. We also enjoyed a couple of delicious cocktails from the bar before sitting down to a fantastic dinner. The food was exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Overall, our experience at The White Horse was wonderful, and I’ll definitely be returning. Whether you're there for a cozy stay, great food, or a bit of holiday fun, it's the perfect spot in Dorking!

Our stay at The White Horse in Dorking was absolutely fantastic! We went for a couple’s getaway, but it’s the perfect spot for family or friends too. From the moment we arrived, we felt so special. The small touches, like the treats and welcome note in our room, made it extra memorable. The team were brilliant, with great local recommendations and the suggestion to join their Christmas quiz—which we loved! The food was exceptional, and we couldn’t fault a thing. We’d recommend The White Horse to anyone and will definitely be back!

Family dinner for 6 , Friday evening. Asked for a quieter table & were taken to a circular one in the rear room. Nicely handled, no fuss & helped for our hard of hearing relative. Thanks. The meal service was very friendly , tho I didn’t find the drinks list until later. It was in front of me! Good was good , we had a variety of dishes starters, mains & desert. All done well. Good selection of non alcoholic drinks where needed. First time in the White Horse for years. Well worth it & very nice. Thanks to the staff.

We had a really wonderful stay at The White Horse. The staff, despite being short-staffed, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was great. They are super dog friendly, which made our stay so much easier! Food, as expected from a Heartwood Inn, was top notch and our room was really spacious plus lush to look at! Only downside is the lack of parking onsite for such a busy venue!

The room we stayed in was lovely! I love the touch of the radio being on with classical music on when we opened our room! Litterally only judgment I would say of our room 9 is the small amount of space between the bed and the wardrobe but that's nitpicking everything else was perfect. The location, the bed, the breakfast 👌👌🍳🍳🍳

We had an excellent meal here on a Friday night with our two small children. Service was excellent, and noticeably different to many local places. Our waiter was really efficient, but was kept very busy as the place was rammed by the time we were eating our mains. My daughter’s burger was a bit overcooked so she left half of it. Mine was well done, as I’d asked it to be. Felt like good value vs local options, and the back dining room was lovely. Will definitely return.

Lovely traditional hotel in Dorking. My room (#29) was quiet and sunny and very well furnished. The hotel staff were very kind. I came during a bit of a heat wave. My room was not air-conditioned, and the window opening was limited for security. Only a small fan was provided. So it was quite hot during the night. The lounge area and the restaurant fare are great. There is a terrace on the back side of the hotel which is very pleasant in the evening. I would go back with pleasure but would ask for a cooler room in warm weather!

I am writing this review to give thanks to our amazing server this evening The White Horse, I have a nut allergy as well as an allergy to fresh herbs- a combination that is not easy to accommodate. Our server, Alfie, was fantastic. He was able to offer dishes that would not result in a need for an epi-pen or medication, he was quick to find out more about potential allergens in the dishes and able to offer meals that met my requirements. As a fellow hospitality worker, this was an amazing experience and possibly the best I have had in regards to my annoying allergies, I will happily be back soon and recommending anyone visit!

We stayed and dined at The White Horse whilst visiting family in the South East. We had a great weekend. The rooms were very comfortable, very tastefully (and slightly funkily) decorated with lovely touches such as a little plate of chocs, a well appointed hot/cold drinks cupboard, dog bed laid out for our hound and a super comfy bed. Breakfast was lovely with a fine range of cold and hot options, the vegetarian full breakfast a real star dish. We ate in the restaurant one night and had an excellent meal. In particular the souffles (cheese and pistacchio) and fish and chips were of note, lovely bottle of viognier to support, all made the better with the warm and friendly service from the serving and front of house staff. This really set The White Horse apart during our stay along with being a truly dog friendly venue - our pooch Bryn was royally spoilt and included during our stay. We will be returning as there was nothing not to like and enjoy including the great location in the centre of Dorking. Kudos to the whole team at The White Horse, thank you.

Sunday lunch with family at the newly refurbished White Horse and it exceeded all our expectations. Food was delicious - I had the roast chicken but others had duck and both fish dishes - and all were well cooked and presented. The puddings - ice creams, sticky toffee pudding and apple and blackberry crumble - were tasty. We found the service friendly and efficient - shout out to Charlie for all her attention - and staff welcoming. We didn't try the bar - my husband and son will soon! - or the rooms but the standard of the refurb looks impressive. We'll definitely be back. It's great to have the White Horse reborn and very much contributing to Dorking life. Well done to all the team at The White Horse.

Absolutely outstanding service from the team here. We had a booking for 7 of us and on arrival I didn't like the position of the table (neurodivergence is a buzz kill and its a personal preference, it might be perfectly acceptable for other people) The team offered 2 options (bar or another table with a time restriction) I hate being awkward but I chose the other table because it felt like a nicer position. They sped service up for us conscious of the time and were so accommodating. Once we moved into the bar area for dessert and coffee and that was also very comfortable and lovely. The team here are fabulous and the food is great too as we have come to expect from visiting other locations in the group (The March Hare in Guildford and The Red Deer in Horsham) Seating is comfortable with furnishings that soak up the noise of a busy environment. Kids menu on offer with colouring and activities. Its a very relaxed and welcoming place for families.

Went to the White Horse for dinner on Saturday. The refurb looks good (although unsure it was needed). The entrances could be better labelled, we definitely walked the wrong way to get to the restaurant and there is still a lot of empty space that looks like it's due to be filled, to be expected on reopening though. Staff were all very friendly my only reason for the lower mark is for the quality of the cooking. We ordered a chateaubriand for £60 and was thoroughly disappointed that it was cut in half before cooking, especially when ordered medium rare, I felt this showed a lack of skill and knowledge from the kitchen. The quality of the beef was good enough but butchered by the cooking process leaving 4 overcooked end pieces and 2 decent slices, all of which were under seasoned. Similarly, the peppercorn sauce lacked flavour. May return but would likely opt for a burger and avoid the steak.

A family lunch to celebrate my daughters birthday was one of the nicest experiences we have ever had. myself, my sister and my two daughters started the afternoon with drinks in the bar lounge and were then shown to our table in the restaurant. Prompt attention from the waitresses asking if we would like water on the table and then we were given the menues. What a wonderful selection! I like nothing more than having to choose from 3 or 4 possiblilities! ( A sure sign of a future visit). Charlie, our waitress, a delightful, friendly and professional young lady, came to take our order. Daughters had the mussels, sister a prawn and crayfish cocktail and I had the most amazing fish soup....all excellent dishes. Mains saw us with 2 going for duck and myself and sister had the pork ribeye. Again, beautifully presented and of excellent taste and quality. Our desserts were just as special with 3 of us going for the pistachio souffle and my birthday daughter , a cheese plate which was brought to the table with a candle in the cheese and all the servers singing Happy Birthday! You know what it's like, you are thinking of going / staying somewhere, and you read the reviews, and they are mostly good or better, then a few of them are bad, and others terrible, and that puts some doubt in your mind, and / or you think some people will never be satisfied  / are professional moaners....? Well, stayed at The White Horse for a cupla nites and was great. Booked thru Secret Escapes and v good value, as included breakfasts and 3 course dinner ea nite. Room was typical, round the back in the 3 storey previous addition element. Room fine, shower v good. Bitta noise at nite from plant / aircon but no big deal. Evening meal in Dozen v good. Her indoors had squid and ceaser salad, all nice. I had salmon paté n toast, fine. Main course generous portion of seabass on fair bit of samphire. AbFab. Very interesting menu choices, very varied. Typical desserts, all fine. Cocktails £9, unlike the £14 at our nearest hotel where we live in Southend-on-Sea. Breakfast choice v good and v nice. Great choice of standard and more interesting stuff, as per Dozen menu. Staff at both great. Service good. Parking at rear, for a fee, with reserved space as we drove in - great. In the morrow, went to Box Hill view point, stepping stones on river Mole and Denbigh estate vineyard, which is extensive. All 10 mins away, or less, by car. Great walks everywhere on Surrey Hills AONB. Reception / lounge area all aircon, room not. Location right on High Street with busy busselly feel, and all manner of shops right outside. So, had a great stay with all aspects perfectly adequate or better. Will be back.

Attended a seminar and decided to stay for lunch. Food was average (poached eggs) but service poor, had to wait ages even though it was not busy, staff not attentive. Eventually had to go to to bar to ask for the bill - was told the price which was more than I had expected and when I'd paid and asked for itemised bill realised they'd added 12.5% service charge. No visible mention of service being extra and think for 2 people and the level of service this was inappropriate. Staff need more customer service training

Went in for a sandwich and a soft drink with my wife. £9.95 each for a sandwich and a 40 minute wait then told the roast beef filling not available! Come on! Service has got to be better than this. Jeff Atkinson

Large well equipped room, bookable parking, friendly staff. Wine expensive and worth taking earplugs as main road noisy. There is a Superdrug across the road

Wonderful staff, rooms and amenities. We arrived jet-lagged after a long trip from Canada and the receptionist went out of her way to accommodate early check-in. The food in the dining room was well prepared and tasty and the wait staff cheerful and helpful. We held a family gathering on Sunday afternoon and the buffet provided was elegant and plentiful. Highly recommended destination!

Lunchtime. First visit to this pub. Very pleased. A warm atmosphere, real fire lit on a damp and cold December Friday. Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect pint of Ranmore bitter. I had the chilli, others had fish and chips. All good. Hopefully will return again soon. Thanks!

A lovely venue, beautifully decorated for Christmas. We were warm and comfortable. The staff were in the main very friendly and helpful however the service was too slow with an hour wait between starters and mains. We ate from the Christmas menu which was a nicely varied menu with options for veggie and vegan. The beetroot salad starter was odd - serving it on a bed of raw oats was a mistake. It was truly indelibly unpleasant. The menu said it was granola however it was raw oats. They congealed, tasted floury, were unpleasantly soggy and chewy and ultimately not something to be repeated. The waitress agreed how unsuccessful the option was when I chatted with her about it. The Venison haunch, red wine and smoked bacon hotpot was absolutely swimming in grease. The meat was minced and unidentifiable as venison haunch, it could have been any red meat. Given the volume of grease it is perhaps reasonable to question if it was the infamously lean venison. Any bacon was also unidentifiable. Perhaps the grease had once been bacon…? The potato topping was quite dried out and meagre. The Butternut squash, beluga lentil and spinach pecan nut roast was also not good. There were a small amount of pale nuts but I would have struggled to identity them as pecans. I also found a piece of spinach but I couldn’t identify any lentils. It looked and tasted 90% breadcrumbs. The accompanying vegetables were really tasty as was the drizzle of gravy. Requesting additional gravy really saved this meal. For dessert the Black Forest waffle was pleasant but SO SO sweet. It did not need the addition of sickly sweet white chocolate. It would have been nicer with bitter dark chocolate and/or unsweetened cream. This is usually a nice pub with good food but something went wrong with the chef with the Christmas menu. No one should ever have to negotiate raw beetroot poorridge. Not that I am validating the idea of cooked beetroot porridge!!

Good beer and a nice location. Staff good and friendly. No food, but you can take your own in (apart from crisps and nuts). Function room available if required and food can be supplied if required.

Proper Fullers pub with all the best Fullers ales. Proper pub atmosphere. Sport on the TV, Dartboard. Friendly staff and accept Blue Light Card, well worth a try.
