Two of us had the fillet steak sandwich. Very nice but not so easy to eat as the steak had not been shredded or at least cut up so if your incisors don't work so good you don't end up with a huge piece of meat in your mouth and then nothing left in the sandwich.

We have been coming here for years and it was one of our favourite pubs… here’s the but, our puppy found three shards of glass on the floor plus food waste which could have resulted in a hefty vet bill for The Pheasant, (cleaner needs training in hovering) when reporting this in a friendly manner it was met with a very poor response from the said manager.. staff where polite as ever and I’m sure the manager could learn a lot from them, but not acknowledging the glass was very very poor, thankfully our young pup didn’t eat it nor did a child fall on them, food superb but when you manage a pub you need to make sure you apologise and put your customers first.

A lovely venue, beautifully decorated for Christmas. We were warm and comfortable. The staff were in the main very friendly and helpful however the service was too slow with an hour wait between starters and mains. We ate from the Christmas menu which was a nicely varied menu with options for veggie and vegan. The beetroot salad starter was odd - serving it on a bed of raw oats was a mistake. It was truly indelibly unpleasant. The menu said it was granola however it was raw oats. They congealed, tasted floury, were unpleasantly soggy and chewy and ultimately not something to be repeated. The waitress agreed how unsuccessful the option was when I chatted with her about it. The Venison haunch, red wine and smoked bacon hotpot was absolutely swimming in grease. The meat was minced and unidentifiable as venison haunch, it could have been any red meat. Given the volume of grease it is perhaps reasonable to question if it was the infamously lean venison. Any bacon was also unidentifiable. Perhaps the grease had once been bacon…? The potato topping was quite dried out and meagre. The Butternut squash, beluga lentil and spinach pecan nut roast was also not good. There were a small amount of pale nuts but I would have struggled to identity them as pecans. I also found a piece of spinach but I couldn’t identify any lentils. It looked and tasted 90% breadcrumbs. The accompanying vegetables were really tasty as was the drizzle of gravy. Requesting additional gravy really saved this meal. For dessert the Black Forest waffle was pleasant but SO SO sweet. It did not need the addition of sickly sweet white chocolate. It would have been nicer with bitter dark chocolate and/or unsweetened cream. This is usually a nice pub with good food but something went wrong with the chef with the Christmas menu. No one should ever have to negotiate raw beetroot poorridge. Not that I am validating the idea of cooked beetroot porridge!!

Absolutely delicious meal and such a festive and snuggly interior. Service was also wonderful! I am a coeliac and have to eat gluten free food and there was so much choice! The roast dinner was scrumptious, so much veg and meat and so tasty, best one I have had in a pub I think. 6 veggies! They even had lots for dogs to eat and were very welcoming to our furry family member. Totally recommended by us, but defo need to book as people were being turned away as full. Not surprised tbh!

It's been a while (years) since I've visited this pub. It's much improved in my view. The food was good and the service was excellent despite it being a busy or Xmas Sunday lunch. The roasts were tasty (could have done with a bit more veggies though). On the expensive side, approx £140 on a meal for 3 people with a drink and no starters.

Met a couple of friends here for a catch up dinner . I had the turkey dinner which was piled high and tasted very good. Beautiful Christmas tree and fire helped it feel very festive in there.

Was looking forward to this but ultimately disappointed. A lot of food wasn't available - understandable after a busy Sunday to some extent, but what we did order was below an acceptable standard. I have eaten here many times and when I was asked for a recommendation locally I didn't hesitate to suggest The Pheasant. I ordered a starter and a pudding. The King Prawn Cocktail was such a disappointment. The shredded lettuce and prawns were ok as was the bread and butter, although there could have been a little more butter but where was the Marie Rose sauce? Usually this creamy sauce sprinkled with cayenne pepper makes this dish. The cayenne pepper was on 3 rather dry King prawns with no sign of any sauce and towards the bottom of the dish was a liquid resembling watery mayonnaise. The sticky toffee pudding was dry and this was also a comment from another member of the party. We were asking each other what were the hard bits in the sponge and decided it was nuts of some sort which I have not had in this dessert before and it did nothing to enhance it. I am not a complainer by nature so didn't mention anything at the restaurant, especially as it was a treat from a family member.
