First impression of this pub is it's a "proper pub" No plastic nastiness, good bar, horse brasses on the wall, comfortable and sturdy tables and chairs. The service is very friendly and efficient, good selection of beers and the food very tasty. Portion sizes are commensurate with prices IMO. I shall return.

The food has gone completely downhill here. Very small portions and mediocre quality. Service was appalling slow with a 45 minute wait for a veg curry to be served and NO apologies! The curry was actually COLD in parts so clearly it had been hurriedly microwaved. I can honestly say this is one of the worst pub meals we've ever had and you would be far better off going to Wetherspoons for half the price and better tasting food. Shockingly bad and will never eat here again.

.Good food and beer , portion sizes have greatly reduced since our last visit . Took a friend there as i was impressed with the food , portion size and real ales. The plate of ham egg n chips we got made me embarrassed. The staff were quite pushy to move people on once the food was gone and the bar staff in too much of a hurry to not converse properly when talking to them. What a difference 6 months make. On the plus side good to see the real ale pump being flushed out between barrels

"Absolutely vile experience with the older woman that works here. I don't know if she was a manager or owner but her manner was disgraceful and downright rude." was a comment from another review and my experience perfectly fits this comment. I booked a table for 8 people after our hike, unfortunately two people got sick on the day so only 6 of us arrived. Two people from our group went to the pub early before our booking and had plenty of beer before we arrived. We arrived 13 mins late which in my opinion is acceptable and your reservation still should be held for you. The older woman shouted at us that we are late, well we knew it but normally you are totally fine coming to the pub / restaurant 15 mins late. She moved us to another table to the one she booked for us shouting at us that it's less of us only to place another group of people guess what ....6 of them too! We didn't mind being moved as the place she moved us to was actually much nicer. The way she spoke to us was totally unacceptable. Lady, you should treat your paying customers with respect. You do need some proper lessons on customer services as you have lost your customers here. The only good thing about this pub was that the meals were tasty and actually pretty cheap of that area, so that made up for the terribly appalling service.

We sat up in the dining area, which was perfect, as we could hear the unexpected live background music, but it wasn't deafening, so we could easily chat. We both ordered the roast beef, which was delicious! A proper home cooked Sunday lunch. Tender meat, crisp roast potatoes, and plenty of gravy! Reasonably priced. There's excellent local beer (Ranmore, from the Surrey Hills brewery) in this charming pub. It's a great old building with a splendid decor of old prints and pictures, and some good furniture, and there's a great feel of antiquity about it, and a fire in winter. I love dropping in for a pint or two when in Leatherhead (great after a walk in the nearby spectacular countryside between Dorking and Leatherhead). I've never eaten there, but the food looks like good pub fare. Friendly staff, and it's on a bus route with the stop right outside. I can't fault the place!

Thought it may be a one off but when we ordered our second drink she did the same thing but decided to shout at me and ask what type of tonic I wanted with a huge attitude. Lovely olde worldw pub, real log fire and genuine good and gracious landlord. This has been my regular pub for years i work extremly hard in acutely urgent and unpredictable often tragic sitatuons in A/E. Went in for a drink with my friend on my day off. Drinks were expensive but the worst of it was the positively resentful vibe i got off the young sulken barmaid with the long eyelashes. When you work as hard as I do and pay £18.00 for two large white wine spritzers: the last thing you need is a positively hostile stare, no banter, someone who turns their back on you, spends ages tryinging to enter the price on the till, uses the wrong serving glasses and positevly glowers at you……. Dont even know me! Cant you smile? Is your life sooooo awful? Mine is worst believe me: thankgoodness the kindly long serving landlord came over abd greeted us and his other elderly cusomers . We had pre-booked our Annual Christmas Dinner, on a Monday evening in Mid-December, for 20 members of our Church's 'Mens' Keep Fit Club'. We were allocated our own semi-private section of the restaurant and a dedicated member of staff to look after us, which worked brilliantly. We had pre-ordered our food choices in advance, from the Special Christmas Menu. Most of us had the full turkey dinner with all the trimmings and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food overall was excellent, good quality and quantity, served promptly and nice and hot too. The real ales were great, as usual for the 'Running Horse', and the wine was good too. We were made to feel very welcome by the landlord Colin, and all his staff. Jackie who looked after us couldn't be faulted, very friendly and helpful. Judging by the feedback from our members, the evening was a huge success and highly likely to be repeated next Christmas.

Just a square on top, which didn't even fully fit the form.I ate the pastry, but it was the strangest pastry I've ever had. The mashed potatoes was only a lump of potato glue. The green beans and the carrots were as overcooked you can do. Anything good? Actually the meat and sauce in the pie was quite OK.Conclusion? A stressed and grumpy landlord, shouting at his staff and huffing and puffing made for a very uncomfortable atmospher. Embarrassing for his staff and unpleasent for customers. Poor show landlord! The food was fairly average pub grub but quite nice.

We had sunday lunch in here yesterday after a walk with the dog, the dog was made welcome as were we by the really nice barmaid, she bought the dog a bowl of water, The landlord was lovely too, very chatty and warm. We ordered the beef and chicken sunday lunch, with a bowl of cauliflower cheese to share. It was fantastic, very well cooked, the meat was so tender and the roast potatoes were REAL ..... that is very, very important to me. All in all, very lovely meal, great atmosphere with a real log fire and a cosy feel, we will definitely return.. my only small gripe was that the gravy was already on my dinner when it arrived and I'd rather have it in a jug, so will ask next time. highly recommended

We go to The Running Horse on Sunday when there is live jazz. Can be busy but worth taking a chance. All the roasts are available plus the full menu. This is a proper pub with good choice of well kept beers with Sunday papers to go with the music and a real log fire in winter. We enjoy it with our friends.

I was abandoned by my travel buddy at the airport and had to find my own way across England to my Airbnb. I had a cab drop me off and directly across the street was The Running Horse. I walked in the door with all my luggage in a strange new place. I was anxious to say the least. I politely asked if I could stay for a few hours until I could check in. Colin and a younger gentleman were behind the bar and they both invited me to take a seat and get my bearings. I sat at a table near the door, asked for the wifi password and then sat silently for nearly an hour. A woman that was seated at another table was getting up to leave and she kindly advised me that there is no table service, I would have to order at the bar. I felt like I was a little more comfortable at this point so I approached the bar. The younger gentleman asked what I was having. I asked for a suggestion. He offered me a sample of the Spitfire Ale. It was delicious! I ordered a pint and took my seat. It was at this point that I started to look around a bit. There was a wood burning fireplace that made the pub smell amazing! The heat coming from it was enough to keep the atmosphere nice and cozy. Colin stoked the fire and cleaned the embers. The walls were decorated in ornate horse shoes and framed calligraphic poetry. The chairs were comfortable and the atmosphere was friendly. I noticed a dog in the pub. I walked over to ask if I could pet the dog and the patrons invited me to sit with them. I ordered the fish and chips from who I assume was described in other reviews as the grumpy woman. She was not grumpy at all. She is Italian and it was definitely all business but I didn’t feel she was rude in any way. The food was hot and delicious and it didn’t take long to come out from the kitchen. The tartar sauce was fantastic! I only needed to pass about 3 hours time but I ended up staying for over 6 hours and that was just the first day. I returned on my second day in Leatherhead and drank another pint while I enjoyed the vegetable curry for dinner. Best naan bread I think I’ve ever had, and the chutney that came with it was a perfect compliment to the dish. I tried to make it over for a third visit but I ended up getting lost on some walking trails. If I wasn’t leaving so early tomorrow morning, I would stop by again!

This little establishment is great in all ways - it has an old feel to it, the food is excellent, the owners are lovely, there’s a nice beer garden for the summer and there’s even a pool table and tv. Me and all my colleagues used to love coming here.
