First time I'd ever been here, but I'm glad I did. - things might have been completely different! A group of us were out in Newport last night, and decided we wanted to dance into the night, so we headed towards the pub which is actually next door to where we ended up.(I won't mention any names, but suffice it to say that it sounds like "smug and letters") Long story short, I was turned away at the door, because I was wearing trousers which were deemed to be "tracksuit bottoms ", so we tried next door (successfully) Once inside, I ordered a drink for each of us and we found a table. The music was exactly my "cup of tea", with a lot of 90s rave and trance, so I immediately hit the dance floor and remained there for at least an hour. The guy doing the music was very accommodating when I asked for certain songs, and even gave me a mention, calling me their "resident raver"! All in all, a really great night, which, I'm sure wouldn't have been so much fun if we'd ended up a couple of doors up the road. I'm looking forward to reviewing that place, as you might imagine!

We had 3 breakfasts as part of the Premier Inn meal deal and 2 evening meals. They are still experiencing some issues obtaining regular supplies of orange juice, so be aware that they may substitute (previously had Mango, which I really enjoyed) All of the food is buffet style help yourself. The English breakfast items were well cooked, presented, and tasted really good. Continental pastries were a bit limited, and only a few options of yoghurt. There was a surprising range of teas along with standard English breakfast tea. The main menu is similar to the standard Whitbread / Brewers Fayre offering. However, I'd highlight one new item, the "melt in the middle fishcake". I really enjoyed this, although I felt that it might have been better with some vegetables; carrot, peas or sweetcorn, perhaps some broccoli. They have a decent selection of beers, wines & spirits, and they are reasonable restaurant prices. One thing to highlight; if you have a Whitbread "Tasty Rewards" card, make sure that you take it along. They will also give you the relevant points.

Went for lunch with a friend who had been before. Possibly due to the time of day (12.30) or the fact it was Monday the place was almost deserted. This did not reflect the quality of the food which was hot, plentiful and well cooked. We both had the Chicken pie. On the downside was the “music”! Monotonous, loud and not at all melodic. If anything this would put me off going again, despite the food quality.
