I booked to eat here with my family for my birthday and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. It was a Sunday and the majority of our table ordered a Roast. When the roast came out and I can only describe it as something you would expect to see at an Asda cafe, in fact i think an Asda cafe would do a better job. There were cubes of chicken, 1 slice of beef about the size of a 50p, and well what they called roast potatoes, they were boiled hard in the minute and not at all roasted and equated to probably a quarter of an actual potato. A couple of spoons of frozen peas and carrots and a soggy yorkshire pudding, but not only was the food of very poor quality it was freezing cold- with a charge of 18.95 per dinner! As my family sat around the table saying its ok dont worry its your birthday and trying not to make a fuss I decided this was not a meal I was happy to accept so within 5 minutes of food being delivered I went to the bar. I politely asked to speak to the chef, 2 young girls came out apologised but there was no further roasts available to correct as they had run out, I said I was happy to pay for our drinks and the pizza one person ordered but the roasts were unacceptable. They said they would look at the bill and bring over an amended bill. As much as I was disappointed at the quality I was happy with the apology and reduction in bill. It was at that point a young waiter came to the table who said unfortunately we have rang our manager and she has said you have to pay for it given its been eaten (it wasnt eaten, we tried a couple of mouthfuls and discarded the rest, mind you a couple of mouthfuls could be explained as half the plate given how small it was) I offered to speak to the manager on the phone if it was a problem and this is when things turned rather sour, the manager was not at all helpful in fact she complained I had interrupted her evening with her children, she then accused me of shouting at her staff which was far from the truth and things were civil before she got involved. I explained she either needed a manager on site to deal with these problems or she needed to be here herself to which she continued to say I was ruining her evening with her children. I felt really sorry for the young staff on site, they clearly did not have the authority to amend the bill or any manager present to deal with such complaints, which i imagine if they carry on serving food like that there will be a lot. The staff were polite at all times but were really let down by the manager whose attitude was shocking. Needless to say we left and will not be returning which is a real shame, the pubs location is fantastic the staff on site were polite, but their food is appalling and the manager non existent and lacking any customer service.

Visited today for our daughters birthday. Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience. Ordered Sunday Roasts for 6 and a pizza, food arrived as miniscule portions, barely enough for kiddies meals, all cold, basic frozen carrots and peas, not proper roast but boiled potato slightly coloured in a pan. Very inexperienced young staff who were clearly out of their depth when we complained as they had to telephone a manager who spoke on the phone with my daughter but without a satisfactory outcome. We refused payment just paid for our drinks and the one pizza as the roasts were totally unacceptable. Imo they ran out of food but tried to spread what they had left across 6 meals, some of which were £18.95 in the case of a trio roast which had one small slice of beef 3 inch diameter and 3 cubes of chicken, agreed we asked for 2 meats rather than three butdid expect the meat presented to be increased proportionately. Requested additional potatoes but informed there were mo more potatoes left!! 3pm but they didnt close until 8pm. Not sure what was going to be served for the remainder of the day! Felt sorry for the young staff on site tho.

Very poor cold food, miniscule portions. I cannot recommend this venue at all. Visited to celebrate daughters birthday having not seen her for a few months. Very disappointing, completely spoiled the day. Young inexperienced team out of their depth when we complained, no successful compromise so had to refuse to pay for totally inadequate, poor quality Sunday roast with price tag £15-19. Shame!

A nice quiet spot for a cold drink in the beer garden or the odd game of pool. They also have arcade machines with a ton of different old-school classic games to choose from, which I didn't personally make use of on my visit, but I appreciate the atmosphere they're going for. I haven't had the chance to try their food yet (hence the no stars), but if they show the same care for food that they do for a pint of Guinness, i'm sure it's exceptional. Highly recommend it for a nice casual drink.

Haven’t been for a few weeks but we popped in for lunch. No salads on menu, which would have been nice, as it’s summer. With other establishments offering a summer menu, we were surprised. I have had most of the choices on this very tired menu, but thought I’d play it safe with fish and chips. It was ok but not amazing. Batter wasn’t very crispy and chips were overdone. This place has been our local for years and we have seen owners/managers come and go in this time. This place could be an absolute goldmine but it looks very shabby from the outside. Inside has been ‘tidied up’ although the toilets let this place down with them being dirty, and frequently running out of toilet roll. Makes me wonder what the state of the kitchen is. Now we have chickens in the garden where paying customers are eating/drinking…could this be a health and hygiene problem? Had high hopes for our local but sadly, we usually opt to walk on a bit further and go elsewhere.

Booked a table for a small party (9 of us) the food took an hour an half to arrive, the restaurant was not busy (3 tables ordering food the rest just drinking) we pre ordered our menu choices a week in advance and still the food took an hour and half to arrive. The quality of food was terrible, the gamon looked like overcooked bacon rashons, dry and tough. The fish was soggy batter, and small portions of overcooked dry chips (see photos) were very overpriced for what you received. cheesy garlic pizza and the Apple Crumble pudding was delicious, though. On speaking to the manager, she agreed the quality was poor and appoligied, the Chef also came out and apologised, offering us money off the bill.

Having a joint 17th birthday party with friends, we anticipated a great evening, but sadly just left deflated. Let’s start with the positives. We had a new server who was really good and management were pro active in giving her guidance. 1 star. Decor , ambiance & staff, 1 star. They had decorated the table with the banner/balloons we provided. 1 star As it was a birthday they comped 2 main courses.1 star. Negatives 2 of us had prawn cocktail both of which the prawns were warm (and no brown bread.) We all know this is a classic and it is that for a reason, don’t muck around with it. It doesn’t need it (minus a star for warm prawns with salad and no brown bread). One of our party had an Halloumi burger, and to say disappointing is an understatement. The smallest amount of cheese they could possibly serve. We brought this to the manager’s attention who agreed that this wasn’t acceptable and took it back to the kitchen. Now I hear you say surely that is a plus… but wait! They brought it back out as originally plated up and told that the chef didn’t want this to go cold so fresh cheese would be brought out . So we were still in plus territory here, until the thinnest slice of cheese that could possibly have been sliced was presented. Minus 2 stars for skimping in the first place and second for the insulting addition. Onion rings that were served to all (6 out of 8 diners) who had burgers , were over cooked and full of grease minus 1 star Now the bill, as I say they did comp the 2 mains but we were charged £1 for a slice of bread (that was to go with a Camembert starter shared That needed more toasted bread) and what came out was a slice of Mother’s Pride with the crust cut off!! Minus 1 star The Sauvignon Blanc was moderate mid shelf supermarket wine from Tesco, I know I buy it too! But don’t expect it it at inflated restaurant prices. Yes I know all restaurants do this but at least serve nice wine! Minus 1 star And not to reduce the bill of the poor Halloumi burger (£13.50 !!) minus 1 star Overall - it is such a shame when local pub/restaurants try too hard to be more than what they can deliver. All they will do is make a fool out of you once.

What an extremely disappointing visit to the The Seahorse we've just had. We booked a few weeks ago, but there appeared not to be a table reserved for us - we were seated at one of the tall bar tables. Had to ask for menus. Our order was taken and the waitress eventually came back to tell us there was an item unavailable (camembert). Then she returned to tell us something else was unavailable (steak). Meanwhile another table were advised that everything they had ordered was unavailable. They then walked out. Our waitress then returned for a third time to tell us that the item we had ordered to replace the steak was unavailable (beef for burgers). We decided to come home and order a takeaway after paying for an expensive round of drinks. What a disappointment on Mother's Day. You'd think of all days, with all the bookings you had, you would be prepared and have stock of everything on your (not particularly varied or interesting) menu. What a shame. We won't be back.

I had a burger and chips. The burger was overcooked and dry, and the bun was not fresh. Another member of the group had to send their fish back as it was v small compared to the others, the chef came out and replaced the dish with a much fuller fish though which was good. Service was slow (even though not many were dining at the time) and the drinks were missed until we re asked once the food arrived (oh and cutlery only was put out after all dishes arrived too, so we were all waiting for the slowest dish to arrive before anyone could eat). Condiments turned up 5 minutes after the food was given even though we asked a few times (7 people and only 1 ketchup tub arrived..enough for 2 people tops, and we asked for more once it was clear that was all was coming). The kids burgers were plain..literally a piece of chicken and a bun, no cheese, no sauce , nothing. Wasn't a good start either with the waitress telling us "a few" dishes were off due to a busy day..then listed over half the menu (was pretty much, fish and chips ,burgers and tagliatelle left) as being not available which meant half our party had to get something else. For the price (more expensive than a good gastro pub in outer London) it was a let down visit to Gosport for sure for me.

Three of us ordered broccoli and Stilton pie with colcanon, one lady ordered spaghetti with meatballs. The pie was brought out with plain mash, no vegetables although the plate was half empty, the mash was also cold, we complained and was told they would let the chef know. The other dish of spaghetti was so dry and congealed the lady could only eat the meatballs. The only order which looked half decent was a bacon bagette. When we paid we were told they wouldn't charge us for our drinks, a cup of coffee each. 13.95 for a pie and cold mash. Not impressed, won't be going there again.

Enjoyed a festive lunch for a table of 8 today. I was umming and arring between 3 local eateries and opted for the Seahorse because of the choice in menu. I easily booked the table and paid a deposit a week or so before. Upon arrival, the table was beautifully laid out, with Christmas decorations and crackers, candles and a true Christmas atmosphere with festive music playing in the background. Because we had pre-ordered our food, once drink orders were received, our starters arrived. All of the selection had been well prepared, served precisely and tasted delicious. Our mains came along shortly after, and a few of the party had ordered steaks. They were presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. The onion rings and chips were heavenly, every item on the plate having its own flavour. The salmon was cooked beautifully, with a crispy skin and side dishes full of flavour. Of course we can't forget the Traditional Turkey roast. Succulent and extremely tasty. Dessert did not disappoint. Christmas pudding packed a punch with alcohol, the bread and butter pudding, like home made and the New York cheesecake and Trillion Tart did not disappoint. The service was excellent throughout, with the staff on hand to take more drink orders and clear the table. The Seahorse gave excellent value for money, within a beautiful setting, friendly staff and wonderful service. If I had to give a rting out of 10 it would be a worthy 10.5

Stopped here for quick lunch as working in the area. I ordered Nachos with cheese from the bar snacks menu. What a disappointment, it was awful!! Burnt dried out nachos which had turned like parchment paper! Service was questionable, I won't be back.

Recently reopened, it was a quiet period on a Thursday afternoon, my cask ale was not great, and our table was sticky, which considering how quiet it was could only have been from previous night? Get the basics right and all is good, they haven't on this occasion and that isn't good enough. Wasn't impressed but perhaps a 1 off? Time will tell.

It was a bit quiet but got busier later. New management and very clean and tidy. The special was gammon steak, and it was excellent. Especially as it was under £10. The only down was the lack of ales. I guess they're finding out what sells. I'm sure I'll be back.

After looking at previous reviews and photos of the roast dinner my partner and I were excited to visit. Unfortunately we were left bitterley disappointed. The meats (beef and chicken) were overcooked and dry with the beef looking like pre-cooked beef from a packet. The potatos were undercooked with them being very hard in the middle. In terms of stuffing we had one very small hard stuffing ball which looked like it had come from frozen. The runner beans were very soppy and overcooked. The only good part of the meal was the cauliflower cheese which was brilliant. The waitress was nice although inexperienced. They were missing the basics and didn't even offer condiments for the dinners. I had to go to the bar to ask for salt and pepper. When I raised our grievances with the waitress she said that she would tell the chef. There was no apology at all all or an offer of goodwill. My partner was chilly throughout the meal and had to wear her jumper over her shoulders. After comparing what we received to other photos, it appears that we got a much worse service. Overall we were left disappointed and will not be visiting again.

A clean friendly place, with inside and garden seating. Just a shame they don't do food apart from crisps and nuts which would certainly attract more custom being near Stokes Bay, depending of course on prices.

Having had a decent meal here previously when visiting. Chose to go there, was told only Booking was @ 17:30 as only 1 chef. We ordered medium rare steak ..1 was cooked Medium rare, the other more well done.. The waitress took it away, then came back a while later with another one supposedly medium rare.. On cutting into it was rare . I tried to eat a piece but too rare.. I told her I would have just the fries (also my friend had finished his meal before my replacement had arrived). We did have desert also.. On leaving and paying the bill - we were charged fully for my steak - very disappointed, no apologies offered!!

I didn’t even want to give it 1 star. When you get blood running out of the Sunday lunch chicken, the explanation was he’d used a thermometer no apologies. Got another dinner with half of the ingredients not on the plate. All of the stuffing was stone cold. I’ve had beef cooked by a decent chef had it rare but a good vet could of done something with it, knives couldn’t cut through it. How it’s got 5 stars is beyond me. And for this we could have a sweet for nothing which we refused. After arguing they eventually let Us have money off. I don’t recommend this place to anyone!!

Great awareness of dietary requirements. We have found Katies to be a good place to eat a gluten free breakfast, and would recommend 'Lady Gaga'. In addition, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is fun, with a selection of vinyl you can choose to play.
