Staying just around the corner at a holiday lodge, I prebooked Sunday Lunch here. Lovely country pub with a real fire. Staff were welcoming. Seemed like a place where everyone knew everyone else in the village, but we didn't feel out of place. We had the Roast Lamb, which arrived quickly and was delicious. Everything was clearly home made, even the mint sauce. Compliments to the chef(s). Hope they receive a share of the tips. There is a large car park.

Thursday lunchtime. There were 5 adults, two from Canada and one Centenarian 101 with myself and my wife. We had a wonderful smiling welcome from the waitress and shown to our table, ordered some drinks and perused the menu that had plenty of choices, the order was taken and arrived reasonably quickly, the waitress checked that everything was ok which it was, the atmosphere was pleasant not noisy, overall it was a lovely part of the afternoon. Without a doubt if the others were writing this all five of us would recommend paying The Yew Tree Inn a visit.

We held our wedding party in the marquee at the Yew Tree Inn at Chalvington on Sat 18th May. From the very start of the process, manager Issy was amazing! From helping with the food and drinks options, to letting us set up the marquee exactly as we wanted to, nothing was too much trouble. The marquee and grounds were the perfect location for our large wedding party, especially as we had quite a few children to entertain, they had the run of the beautiful surrounding grounds and all had a brilliant time. They even offer camping on site for those wanting to stay. The food was incredible, we opted for the hog roast for adults and freshly cooked pizzas made in their outside pizza oven for the kids. It was all delicious and at a very reasonable cost. With the bar being on site within the marquee, it really made us feel like we had the place to ourselves, with no need to use the main pub facilities. On the day/eve the bar staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, everything went exactly as planned. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Yew Tree Inn to anyone planning their wedding party in the future 😊

Food was nice, definitely the highlight. Service whilst friendly wasn't really attentive. Waited a while for mains and dessert order to be taken, wasn't asked if we would like more drinks at any point, had to ask at the bar for coffee. Usually quite understanding if the establishment is really busy or there are large table(s) present, but staff were mainly chatting to each other behind the bar while we waited for service. Would return for the food.

During last summer after a very average meal I came out to find my 6 mth old car written off by one of the pubs trees falling on it in their car park. Thankfully none of the children playing in the car park were hurt. The owner took ages to give me their insurance details and basically washed their hands of the whole thing. They did agree to pay half towards my insurance excess but that has never materialised either and any emails referring to that are being ignored. Go there at your own risk!!!!!

I looked at two pubs at which to hold the funeral reception for my father. One didn't seem very interested and merely quoted £20 per head for a "cold buffet". The other, The Yew Tree, quoted a similar figure for ten items from a selection on a buffet menu. The menu had a variety of options, hot and cold, with many sounding very tempting indeed. The chef was willing to accommodate our requirements (eg, making some of the sausage rolls with a vegan filling and others with meat). The slow-roast pork belly was sublime, many items were delicious, and there were plenty of comments of how good the buffet was. Combine that with a truly charming pub with fine ale, and the day was a success. Thanks to Gemma for her great service.

First of all I need to correct the previous awful review. It clearly cannot have related to the Yew Tree Chalvington but the same name establishment in Arlington as none of what was said is anything to do with Chalvington. On the day we couldn't fault the food, big portion size and service. But, as a local and previous visitor to the Yew Tree it's such a shame that the original bar and later conservatory couldn't be used. Eating in the marquee is all very well but on the day of our visit it was very windy and quite cold with a big draught blowing through so the food also got cold pretty quickly. Also, the loos were limited to the portacabin type structure out back. No problem with that but the access staircase is very steep and must surely be an issue for those such as my wife who has mobility problems. Lastly, the rattan garden chairs used in the marquee are too low for comfortable dining. Would I return for a meal? Only if the bar or conservatory were open, otherwise no, so four stars.

Oh dear, what’s happened to this place. The yew tree has always been on the map for one single reason - the food, exceptional, large portions, massive salad collection on the plate and a menu so fresh it was never written down except for a blackboard. Well those days are over, the pubs been taken over and now had a printed plasticky menu, so old it had a sticker on it to correct the prices. The food was nothing remarkable at all, something you would find at an airport hotel kinda thing. They’ve managed to retain the manager, god knows how because he must be watching in horror. They’ve started to refurb and tbh it was needed, but to change the menu was sheer stupidity. The new colour is blue, who on earth thought blue for a country pub would be a good idea, it looks nice but it’s totally out of keeping with the pubs identity. The decorative change would be acceptable has they not messed with the menu. I can’t imagine they even have a chef any longer as it looks like frozen, oven cooked on demand. They’ve employed some kids to staff the place and this is nothing new, however there’s a young lad that seem cocky and obnoxious, a complete contrast to the old staff. They’ve turned a countryside pub into an expensive weather-spoons and the thing about that is, people don’t travel to the middle of nowhere for a weather-spoons. It took many years to make this a popular pub, it would be very foolish to lose that reputation in a few years. Ditch that tacky menu and hire a chef would be my advice before it’s too late for the books

Just had to say a big thank you to all at the YT for a lovely lunch in the conservatory yesterday. Something like twenty ladies of a certain age ( ie old!) congregated for our Christmas get together. That is not an easy party to cater for and the YT really did well. Kat (Cat?- sorry- not sure how to spell your name ) delivered excellent service with a smile despite the extra work we gave her in wanting individual bills, changes to the menu, half size puddings etc etc. The food lived up to the high standards we expect of the Yew Tree and at a reasonable cost- especially bearing everything going on in this country at the moment. Well done Yew Tree. So glad we had our lunch at yours.

I had been looking forward to coming here with my family for ny birthday. None of us had been before. The park was great for the kids, portion sizes were good but i did not like that we were in a marquee. Although it was hot outside, the breeze was strong and we were quite cold waiting for our meal. Also queueing up to order food was frustrating as there were many people waiting that were only buying drinks. It took 45-50 minutes for our food to arrive. The pork belly was good, the beef was far too pink for me, but that's personal preference. Deserts were ok. Just felt like we were in someones garden rather than at a restaurant. Staff were friendly 🙂

We attended today Sunday 27th Feb 2022. 5 in total three adults and 2 children (aged 11 and 13). It was our first visit and we booked last night for a table today. It was fully booked largely. We all wanted a Sunday roast. We were not sure if our children who are big eaters would need an adult meal or a child’s meal? They decided in child’s. The staff were lovely and attentive and we ordered at the bar and it was at the table very quickly. One adult had the roast if the day Lamb and the other two had pork belly. The childrens meals were apple for my two big eaters. The pork belly was beautiful cooked to perfection and tasted beautiful. Roast potatoes cooked perfectly as was the veg. The only thing that we felt let done the rest of the high quality meal was the shop bought small Yorkshire puddings. I wouldn’t take anything away from my review because of it but we all did comment that the quality of the food we would have expected a home made Yorkshire pudding, but hey no big issue. We had desserts too, everyone we had was tasty and wonderful! Adults roasts £13 and childrens £7.50 desserts £6. Total bill with drinks for 5 was £98 we left full and very happy worth every penny.

Extremely disappointing experience! We went there thinking there was a special deal on today 2 courses for £15 (not 2 mains actually a starter and main) we wouldn’t have minded paying full price if it wasn’t for the bad quality of food. Tea was served in a plastic cup with no fresh milk. Everything came out of the freezer apart from the salad, so quite disappointing for a country pub as if we’d wanted this type of food we could have gone to the harvester or treacle mine. There’s plenty of really good homemade food in pubs around there’s no need to spend your money here.

Disappointed. The outdoor marquee was really well set up. The food was average and uninspiring. All served in a cardboard box with wooden cutlery. I understand why to a degree with Covid. However, its wasteful and unnecessary even during these times. The cutlery is placed in a pot that many people will touch and the material used for the cutlery porous, so a great surface for germs/virus to live. The wooden cutlery just wasn't adequate for cutting food. The onion rings are frozen supermarket standard and the fishcakes bland. The best part of my fishcake meal was the tartar sauce. The coffee was vending machine. I expected more from such a beautiful setting. Great for families, play area for them and plenty of space for them to run about. However if you are going for a good quality meal then I'd give it a miss. Sorry Yew Tree I really wanted to love you.

In this present clement of uncertainty, I felt things could of been dealt with a lot better, every customer should matter.I would suggest to management to revisit there customer service skills, this would make a massive improvement.

I'm going to start by saying this was our first camping experience. We have visited the yew tree many many times and thought it would be an ideal spot for our first camp out. Together with a our close family friends *15 of us in total. We booked up and headed off. On arrival check in was fine and we found out preferred spot on the field.opposite us were 3 caravans and 2 tents. We later found out these were to do with the pub and not holiday makers but that was fine. After setting up camp with walked to the pub for dinner and drinks. Food is currently being served in boxes due to corona and that was all fine. Food was tasty and hot and served quickly by polite and helpful staff. The place was unusually busy for a tuesday but we chalked that up to the fact the are doing the eat out to help out offer. Lots of families having a good time. Some more rowdy then others and a very rude lady who started shouting in our daughters face (shes 9) was quickly escorted off the site by staff. We sat for a couple of hours after eating before returning to our tent. Unable to see as it was now pitch black we had solar lights we had already charged and torches to guide us. Back at the tent we were unable to do very much as fired arent allowed even in a fire pit and so we decided to call it a night. Before this we took the children to the toilets. In doing so we were told by a gentleman that the camp site now needed to be very quiet as it was 10pm- the bar had closed up early too. We agreed and pleasantly said good night etc. However once in our tents you could hear loud singing and clapping, laughing and talking from the bar area for quite some time. This was our only annoyance that we had been told no music or noise but the bar although closed still had many people sitting around making noise and having fun when we couldnt. Our night was pleasant and the weather good to us. We were due to stay a second night however a bad storm came in and as there is nothing else to do on site but either sit in a tent or a bar we decided to pack the kids up and head home. Over all the experience was good. The field is massive and during our first day the children had plenty of fun playing and exploring and being chased by 2 sheep! However we would return again for food but the camp having no electric is ok but not to allow fires or open flames for cooking would become an issue if you stayed more than one night. Also the site has no showers just portable toilets currently that close at 10pm and then there is 1 small shared loo available for over night. The price is really cheap though so you cant expect the earth. Like I said if we had been allowed a bit of quiet music and a camp fire we would have enjoyed another night or so. We arent the type to have loud parties but to be able to be sociable around a fire is what we really would have enjoyed. After all the bar was loud which wouldn't have bothered us had we not been told at the very same time to keep the camp quiet now. Forgot to mention the play area and bouncy castle are great fun! The kids had a great time

The main meal was lovely but when we were asked if we wanted a desert menu we said yes and ordered drinks. The drinks came but the menus didn’t we waited 30 mins and because of the new one way system none of the waitresses came near us to ask for the menu. We we to pay At the bar and my husband tried to bring up that we would have ordered desert if we were given a menu but he got talked over so didn’t bother. If you go here just make sure you pick a table on the waitresses route or you might be forgotten.

We had an evening meal for four. There’s a lovely welcoming atmosphere here, and we’ve eaten here several times before. The service is always really good, and the food is excellent. The curry I had was really great, a lovely meal for a cold evening. Would definitely recommend eating here.

Visited with my family and friends as a group of 7. Such a lovely warm and inviting traditional English countryside pub! We came for Sunday lunch and had cosy table by the bar with a bench on one side which I must say was very comfortable! The pub was busy with a great Sunday afternoon vibe. Considering it was busy, the service was excellent! Our main waitress was very attentive, smiley and patient as we dithered over our choices! I had the roast lamb and shared a side of cauliflower cheese with my husband. The meat was tasty and the giant homemade Yorkshire really topped it off! It was a perfect comforting roastie. All the puddings were a very generous size and I had the crumble which was certainly the best crumble I have had in a long time! The kids enjoyed their food too and probably down to the ambient atmosphere they were well behaved and happily colouring in while the adults chatted! We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back again soon!

In the middle of nowhere plus the constant road closures, it means diverting through a busy route with temporary lights every other week.
