Well food was amazing once we got what we ordered , got drinks wrong . Lady serving had no sense of humour was argumentative when we commented on a wrong order , service appalling ,food good , I suggest that the lady who is running the bar goes on a customer service course before you lose all your new customers . I won’t advertise this pub at all , to top it off you had blokes swearing in the pub garden

Wasn't open at 11 😔 opening times need to be updated.. Bit disappointed. Onto the next one.

Great service. Good unpretentious menu to suit most tastes. Efficient, friendly service.

Hugely disappointing experience. If you’re planning on going for food you might as well save yourself the bother and get something out of the freezer because that’s what they do! Fish and chips was a particular letdown, small portion and soggy batter. Chicken burger looked like a kids meal and sea bass was served on a bed of whole new potatoes and some tomatoes on top. Sounds better than it was as no seasoning, no sauce, no real cooking cheffing shown and no flavour. Bar staff were attentive and gave good customer service. Young waitress was uninterested and when asked politely for some tomato sauce with the fish and chips she audibly sighed and said she would see if they had any. Overall a place to miss.

I'm not a fan, The Harvey's Ale was ropey, the gammon was rough 😕 May try 1 more time as I like the pub , but maybe not 🤷‍♂️

Had our wedding reception here and James the landlord was absolutely astounding. He had clearly worked so hard to make sure we had an excellent time and we felt so looked after and we didn't have to worry about a thing. The food was exquisite - both the meals and the buffet. The staff were wonderful - so helpful and welcoming. And James has done such a fantastic job on the pub itself - the interior is kept beautifully, and the outdoor areas are clean and very well presented. Highly, highly recommend this place for holding an event, or even just popping in for a drink and meal. James made sure our day went so well, and we will be forever grateful for that 🙂

We didn't get to eat here. It was a Thursday evening 7.30 and 4 of us arrived (not booked) and asked for a table. There was a surly female member of staff behind the bar who said "no, kitchens closed" and that was it - no explanation or anything. It's a shame because this used to be quite a regular for us but if this is how it goes we won't be inclined to go again. Such a shame.

This is a very nice traditional pub in Frant. There's of parking and great views. Staff are friendly and a good selection of quality beers and ales. I have not tried the food here so this review is just from the perspective of having a drink.

Early lunch visit after leaving Black Deer festival! Great choice! Good service, great atmosphere, lovely “pub dog” adding to the experience. Food was delicious! Fresh fish :) Good menu choices. Would visit again, thank you :)

Great food in a convenient location on our travels to the coast.

Return visit with family , amazing roast dinner with fantastic service. We will be back to try the whole chicken option next .

Olde pub well worth a visit... Mid afternoon visited for a pint of best Harvey's... & A bottle of cider... Two fireplaces, I'm certain this place would be packed come evening as restaurants are well designed and outside garden sitting areas with tables for outside dining too, a place I'd like to try dining at sometime in future.

Just stopped in for a quick break and a drink, but the pub was decent enough, can't comment on the food, etc.

Not very friendly welcome. Indifferent at best. Food over priced. £8.00+ for a mediocre sausage sandwich. Floors haven't been washed in forever. Decor in loos tired but great colours. Has potential to be a great pub. Loads of history. But lack of enthusiasm let's it down.

Served raw burger!! Shocking me and my partner travel all over for food and this by far is the worst i have ever been served so dissapointed

New owner at the Abergavenny and is getting to grips with managing it very well. He actually got me to try Guinness Zero! That's a first for me. Food is fine even though it's on the pricey side for 'pub grub'. Looking forward to seeing the new menu.

Fantastic county pub. Great food through the week and the big Sunday roast. Great selection of lagers wines and ales. Great atmosphere come summer or winter. Good place to be!

Lovely food. 6 of us and we all enjoyed our meals.

We ate here April 2023 and were so impressed that we returned this year. Very disappointing this April. How it has changed. Decor strange and unattractive. Menu limited and unimaginative. Food was poor. Sadly we will not return and certainly would never recommend it.

Fabulous, sympathetic decor, very friendly and efficient. Toilets spotlessly clean. We did not eat here but people who were eating stated it was fantastic

Great service, great food and really recommend

The best chips I've eaten in ages, I wasn't as keen on the batter, but the fish was well cooked, so I was happy to eat it without the batter. Sadly my friends' potatoes were undercooked. They did ask if our food was okay, but they hadn't tried the potatoes at that time. The other problem was that the ladies Loos did not have a working lock on the door. Would I go back, definitely.

Lovely Sunday lunch for mothers day in the lounge of the pub.A nice little comfy area with benches/pews and fur throws. All 5 of us enjoyed our roast dinners and the chicken carved at your table made it a bit different. Chicken was scrumpy by the way. Service was very good too. Although they were very busy beingas it was mothers day. I expect it will be very good on a normal day Overall a good meal and grest ambience for mothers day.

First impressions from outside are a bit tired but we thought we would take a look anyway. Inside its quite nice, menus are standard but a nice looking place with an open fire so we stopped. Nice pint, gammon, egg, chips peas / scampi, chips, peas ordered. Food arrives, hmm I thought I ordered gammon but I have cold ham on the plate so i question, waitress acts like she doesn't understand and comes back saying the chef says that's right, I ask to see the menu just to check and point out it does not say ham but I'm getting nowhere, she acts dismissive and gruff. I accept the food anyway as my partner is eating. Hers was nice apart from the bullets. Ham was tough, clearly a small cheap cut of gammon cooked as ham and the peas were like bullets. This was neither a gammon or a ham. I paid the bill minus the service charge as it was so great and left. First time and the last.

Can not fault the Abergavenny for their excellent service, food on Sunday 18th feb. It was extremely busy but the staff were efficient and very friendly. The Beef roast was to die for. Melted in the mouth. And the crumble was exquisite. Well done to James and his team!!!

Had a great roast and cannot fault it, service, quality of meats and a hood pint of Harvey's old. Was very busy but the service was impeccable with a lady who had a good sense of humour, had us in fits. Will be returning, keep the good work up.

Waited a long time for a table even though we'd booked, then got our food served later than people who came after us (ordered same thing). Food good but service a bit hit and miss. Roast dinners good but sides small.

Can’t rate the whole roast chicken for two enough in this pub! Absolutely delicious, carved at the table for us. Really personal service. Cauliflower cheese to die for too! Lovely atmosphere. Thank you and well done! Def be coming back xx

Popped in for Sunday lunch. Lovely place, very friendly staff and a roaring fire. Lots of historical photos on the wall too. Roast menu was perfect, not too big and plenty of side options if you want more. Kids menu is great, and you can also order off the main menu on a Sunday. Really cosy place, and the cost was pretty decent too.

Fantastic pub for food and drinks with the family. We are always made to feel welcome by James and his team. The food is lovely and they offer a great selection of wines/ beers and non alcoholic drinks. The new decor is great and creates a lovely cosy atmosphere. James and his team go over and above to give you a wonderful service.

Great history to the pub. Retains sensitively its sense of history with its inevitable modernising. Lovely big fires to welcome, along with the very friendly staff. Great choice of expected favourites on the menu. All well cooked and big portions. Great wines and beer choice too.

Interesting old building with glorious log fires. Really good food we had the vegetarian curry highly recommended. Previously we had the fish and chips which was good. Helpful friendly staff , James the new owner is very approachable and spent time telling us about his future plans. We will be returning and highly recommend this business

What a fantastic place! Our party of 20 people arrived unnanounced when our planned venue turned out to be unavailable. We were treated to brilliant service, the food and drink (Harvey's on tap) were fantastic and what a lovely atmosphere with the log fire. The new owners have created a gem of a pub here...highly recommended!

Had a party here. Management flexible in what we wanted, staff exceptional and food superb. They made sure everything ran smoothly and everyone local plans to return soon and and can only hope invite me.

Called in for a spur of the moment Sunday roast, great food & great service. The place had a lovely log fire & history of the building goes back centuries, we will be back in the future.

Lovely homemade food with a open fire

Lost it. This place changed hands in October 2023 & in January 2024 when we visited it has fallen off a cliff. When we’ve been before we’ve always been back but we will NEVER return under the current management.

Went for lunch and the signs were already there before we entered. The car park featured a huge pile of rubbish including a mattress and the outside of the pub now looks completely neglected. Walked in and it was freezing cold. All the blinds and curtains were closed so it was dark too - the weather was gloriously sunny and it would have been so much nicer to have let some light in, but we were told that the windows and doors let so much cold air in. Ordered the 4 for 3 light bites/tapas and they took an hour to arrive despite the pub being pretty empty. We sat in our coats the whole time, as did all the other diners. The food itself all tasted of deep fat fryer oil. Used to love this pub and am so sad to see it has gone downhill this fast. We won't be coming back sadly.

Don't bother. The owner is a very rude man!!! as a party of seven we booked for the fish and chip and wine offer on a Friday evening, we were called half an hour before arrival to be told that there was no fish, so the offer was off! We went anyway and ordered from the regular menu, when the food arrived one of the party was not happy with the meal, the level of rudeness from the chef/owner was unbelievable, such a shame as we had really like this pub before the new owner took over, needless to say we will NEVER go back. Please don't go there... Dreadful and unbelievable and embarrassing scene that the owner caused in front of his other guests.

If you are ever thinking of going to then do not bother! We arrived to be told the pork and chicken roasts had run out bare in mind we arrived at 2.30pm in the afternoon We then waited for our roast to arrive for the four of us only for three to turn up of roast beef. Then it gets worse they come over and announce that the roast beef has run out. So one of us is out of food. I offered to take one for the team and have the veggie alternative the only option left. I explained I did not want to pay for it as it is not what I ordered. The manager came over with zero apology and said I could have half price for a dinner I did not want. Safe to say I won’t be returning. What a joke.

Lovely and warm. Seated by the log burner in the restaurant area. Friendly staff, and excellent food. Highly recommend the liver and bacon. Tender and cooked to perfection.

A fantastic Sunday Roast, aged beef, all the trimmings, best crispy potatoes and Yorkie puds. Please give it a go and support this new owner. Good luck James.

Visited with work colleagues for our Christmas lunch. Lovely restaurant all decked out with traditional decorations and log burner burning away which made it really cosy. Had the three course meal from the Christmas menu. All our food was very tasty. Have to say though the star of the whole thing were the roast potatoes. They were fluffy inside with a crispy outside. By far the best I’ve ever had. I could quite happily have just had a plate of them! We had preordered so didn’t have to wait for our food. After our mains we were asked if we wanted to wait for our dessert or have it straight away. This was a nice touch. Overall an excellent experience and certainly would look at returning.

We have used this pub alot in the past. We heard it had changed hands so arranged to meet our friends here. We were so looking forward to this evening, meeting friends that we hadn't seen for some time.When we arrived we were asked what drinks we would like, my husband asked what ales they had, he was told Harveys was all they had - not any choice? When the man brought the drinks to the table we couldn't help but notice how black it was under his finger nails. Offputting when serving drinks and food. It came to ordering food and one of our friends asked if there was a christmas menu. She was met with an abrupt "Yes but it needs to be pre ordered, it says so on the website". Being honest, having used this pub so many times in the past we hadn't looked at the website. Perhaps we should have done, but customer service is key. The food when it came was really good. Sadly the service left alot to be desired. We had to ask for drinks when we wanted them and once the food was delivered we were not asked if everything was ok with our meals, (It was but it is polite to ask and good customer service). A lady appeared at 9.40 and said here's your bill we close in 20 minutes. We asked if we could have another drink but were told "no probably not".As the service was poor, my husband asked not to pay the service charge but was told twice by the lady that the bill included it. My husband said again he would pay minus the service charge (it is optional I believe). The lady went off in a huff and after muttering to a colleague, came back and took the payment. She then asked my husband why he wouldn't pay the service charge, saying everyone charges it. This we all found quite rude. Sadly this has not left us wanting to return or recommend to others. Under new management we thought you would be trying to attract and keep customers. So sad as the food was great.

Disappointing, especially compared with last visit. The place was cold. The service was unhelpful. The food was poor. The lager didn’t taste like the brand ordered.

I visited here with a friend at the end of a 4 day camping trip in the woods very recently. We must have looked a right state but was welcomed in as if we were suited and booted and offered a seat by the open fire by the chap on duty. We had the chicken and bacon pie with a coffee and a red wine each and it was all very nice. Thanks very much!

We had lunch at the Abergavenny. which was my first time there for a couple of years. The menu was varied and the food was delicious. 10/10. I'll definitely come again. We also met the new landlord, James, who came over for a chat and told us about his plans for the pub. He's very approachable and lots of fun - he's going to do great things, I'm sure.

One of our favourite places to dine. Excellent service, wonderful atmosphere, beautiful garden area.

It was my first time in South East London (ish). We had some appetizers for lunch, witha great latte and salman salad and duck for dinner. The taste was amazing and perfectly done.

Seems like a really nice local pub and the food was really nice, such a shame the atmosphere was off, service was non existent and with kids we kept feeling like we had to go up and ask for cutlery, sauces, drinks, food etc. Contested the service at the bill as we felt we received none, and was then made to feel awkward and basically ignored by Manager. Such a shame, as the food was great.

This pub did not live up to any of the reviews we looked at prior to booking. We were on holiday from Australia and booked this venue so as to meet up with an old friend for Sunday lunch on 16 July 2023. The staff were more interested in talking amongst themselves and the only times we had any attention was when we approached them. We realise the building is quite old but there was a damp musty odour throughout. The Sunday lunch was pretty mediocre - the beef. instead of being carved in nice slices, was just a lump of meat with gristle in it plus the so called "roast potatoes" were undercooked and quite hard. All in all the ambience was very poor and we are pleased that we do not have to go there again. There were very few people eating lunch there and we can understand why. Lunch was unimpressive with roast potatoes probably cooked hours previously and a distinct lack of freshness with most of the ingredients. The ambience deserves better, beer excellent.

We've been here a few times for a Sunday roast and never been dissapointed. The roasts are really high quality and very tasty. The portions are good unless you're looking for a large meal. We always order the honey roast parsnips and the cauliflower cheese too 😋

Went for Sunday Roast with my family, for context - the family members I dined with on this occasion, look nothing like me... We had a table booked and I entered ahead of the rest of my family to check us in. Staff completely ignored me but spoke to others who came in after me, unfortunately I'm used to this. When my lovely, natural blonde Aunt came in they attended to her immediately, when I asked why they ignored me they claimed "they thought I was with another group" 🙄 Once my family were all with me, service was decent, however, I politely asked for my portion of roast beef to be medium well and the server scoffed at me and said "chef won't like that". Lo and behold when my plate arrived I had been served the toughest, driest, most grey and over-cooked bit of "meat" it definitely wasn't a portion of roast beef from the main joint. The photo attached to this review was my Aunt's portion- I don't have a photo of mine unfortunately. The rest of the food was quite nice but the roasties were quite hard on one side and yes I mean hard, not crispy/crunchy. I didn't make a fuss about any of my experiences here because I didn't want my grandparents especially, to feel bad as this was their treat and I don't get to see them often. My family like it here, so if they want to return I'll attend and smile sweetly like I did on Sunday but I wouldn't return by choice or recommend. This was my own personal true experience and you may have a fantastic time if you visit. The pub is not accessible there are large uneven steps to enter and once inside there are more steps to get to the toilets.

Been here quite a few times and the food never disappoints… it’s beautifully presented and delicious . Great staff and a well stocked bar . We will be back !

I visited a spa hotel at the weekend, in the area we went for a lovely drive ! We come across the pub and wanted a roast dinner ! The manger was so nice he found us a table with out a booking and seated us ! Service great and all the staff ! Then my dinner came !! I asked the girl were the rest of my dinner was ? For £21 pounds … She looked 😳 and got the manger ! He told me that this is how they serve it as it is high quality!! I was so angry then I felt sad about being Ripped off !!!
