The best restaurants serving Other cuisines food in East of England

Coffee was tasteless, despite asking for the drink to be made again it came out the same. toilets were a filth hole and it is over priced and dirty. I have been a frequent visitor for the many years this place has been open but today’s visit was my last.

Nice people...... great location, my wife loves the coffee... and it is open later that all the other cafes in Harpenden. Its why we really go there.... However, the place is always in an absolute mess, we have been in 12-15 times in the last few months. We always have to clear the table and then ask if we can clean it. They just pass me a cloth ha ha ha... unreal ! As I said the staff are nice, however, are always chatting with clients rather than working, and cleaning up. The cake containers are also really really dirty, the cafe floor and bathroom is always very dirty. As I said, nice people, however the cafe is a mess...... such a shame.

Lovely bar with a great view. Well priced food and drink, and great friendly bar staff. Wonderful venue for enjoying a sunny day.

The staff are totally disinterested and not at all friendly. Coffee and atmosphere were good. Having to spend 10p on a sachet of ketchup when you have spent £10 is an insult.

Love this cafe. It’s very convenient for me to visit after school drop offs. Very helpful friendly staff. Sometimes they have special offers for scones so I get coffee and scone for £4 which is great. If there is no special offer then I just get a coffee. Good selection of pastries but not a good selection of cakes. The hot food is all prepacked so I would never try it as it can never be good. I like going to cafes that prepare fresh food (affordable) and nice breakfast which you can’t really find in this Waitrose cafe unfortunately. But I love this cafe for my coffee stops.

my wife asked me to pop in and get a couple of cakes they had very little choice i bought a cream puff and what looked like a Belgian bun the cream puff was stale with some synthetic cream at £3.50 thats crazy! the bun was dry and stale my wife was very disappointed "fresh and organic! more like stale and plastic!!! nothing like the old bakery!

Fantastic pub, lovely staff especially Mark. Stayed in London for 6 weeks for work commitments and the good companion easily became my new local. All staff have an approachable can do attitude nothing is too much of an ask. Thank you for being so lovely to a london outsider! X

Don’t take young/teenage girls here. Especially dont let them work here.I worked with one of the owners when I was 14 in a restaurant they were running…… you guess I won’t say no more

Now called the Water’s Edge, we had a great evening here on the Saturday over the August bank holiday weekend. Really friendly and relaxed owners who made us feel very welcome and a great atmosphere. It was the most fun night we had on our weekend boating holiday!

Having grown up living close to this pub, I was excited to return and bring my husband and young son with me. The views are as beautiful as I remember and the pub, inside and out, looks like it’s had a nice makeover from how it was all those years ago. The good bits end there. We had booked for 3pm as a table of 3, one of those being a high chair. We arrived 5 minutes early and stood just inside the doors and were then ignored and walked round by staff for over 5 minutes. Not even a “we’ll be right with you”. I eventually flagged down a terrified looking young waitress (we later found out it was her first day) and told her of our booking. She checked us in on the iPad and then pointed at a 2 seater table. I said we had booked for three and she then said our table was across the restaurant but still seemed unsure. I asked again if that was our table and she said “I don’t know”. Not her fault it’s her first day but shame on management for completely abandoning her. The menu was nothing like that advertised online. I was excited for fresh mussels but the menu we got was tiny. 5 or 6 starters and mains compared to the 12 ish starters online and over 20 mains. We were told there was no fish and chips and no fish of the day. After a 15 minute wait to be served, I ordered pate to start and a burger and my husband ordered fish cake and chicken ballotine. We ordered chicken goujons for our son. Waitress then returned to say no pate either so I asked for a dish cake instead. Starters took 35 minutes to arrive, the staff clearly prioritising the people outside on the boats rather than the pre booked tables. We overheard the table next to us saying they’d waited an hour and 20 minutes for their mains having not ordered starters. Staff were completely unattentive and even as the tables cleared our service was still not existent. Fishcakes ok, burger dry and boring, small portion of chips. My husbands chicken was nice but again, that’s about it. Our sons chicken was ridiculous. Batter so thick that we had to remove it for the sake of his teeth (even we struggled with the thickness) to then find a tiny amount of actual chicken inside. Overall a total disappointment. Overpriced mediocre food with poor service from young untrained staff. Won’t be back.

Terrible service extremely slow, food was not good, had the breakfast bun which was cold and the bacon was hard and dry....... £161 for rubbish service and bad food ......we wouldnt go back to eat there and it is very over priced

Bad attitude, discrimination against foreigners, and service charge. Ice cream balls are very small and highly recommended.
