Benet's Cafe in Cambridge

Benets Café is a truly extraordinary find! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by its cozy ambiance and the friendly, inviting atmosphere. The café has a charm that makes you want to settle in and stay for hours, enjoying not only the delicious treats but also the warmth of the space. The staff are wonderful – so friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home with genuine smiles and service that goes above and beyond. Their menu offers a fantastic selection, with something to satisfy every craving. Each bite felt like a small delight, clearly made with love and care. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, a place to catch up with friends, or simply somewhere to enjoy a comforting coffee, Benets is the perfect choice. I can’t recommend this place enough – it’s a true Cambridge treasure!

I ordered a cappuccino to take away. The coffee Benets use tastes bad, and I found a solid lump of matter (??) at the bottom of the cup. I don't normally give bad reviews, but they need to do better.

Louis and Luca made me feel so comfortable and was absolutely lovely. I am heavily pregnant and Louis helped me when I needed a wee and no one else would help but Louis helped and as woman he did not judge: I thought he was the owner that’s how lovely he was but he made me aware that Julie was the owner and only spoke good about her!!! Amazing place: deffo recommend.

This must be some of the best ice cream that I’ve tasted for a long time. Maybe one of the best in Cambridge, if not the best!! I particularly liked the coffee and praline ice cream, As well as the pistachio. Definitely worth a visit!!!

I just had one of the best lattes I've ever had at this cafe! The prices are reasonable, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the seating is really comfy with good music. I'll definitely be coming back!

Amazing position, friendly people, but the worst and most overpriced Spritz of my life. 14£ for basically a red-coloured glass of water. Humble suggestion: 1/3 Aperol, 1/3 Prosecco, 1/3 sparkling water. Price £10. Ah, and crisps and olives should be included. That’s the way it’s supposed to be done.

Had a nice lunch here while on holiday. The toasties are the best I’ve had in a long time, but the cakes are from boxes and the coffee is bitter.

Tried the Matcha latte - it was ok but a bit too sweet for my liking. They do have a nice sitting area upstairs.

My muffin (which wasn't one, unfortunately I don't know the name, looks similar) was certainly older than 24 hours, maybe even older. Hard, difficult to chew, unappetizing and expensive. Coffee OK and edible, but spoon used before!! The child thought the ice cream was ok. Service was rude, cleared the table very late and then left the glasses. For ice cream there are much better places in Cambridge. Positive: The view of King's College is nice. All in all: once and probably never again.

Best flat white we've had since arriving in the UK 10 days ago. I wish we weren't in such a hurry to leave because then i would have ordered another one. My son wouldn't give mine back ...after taking a sip and saying the colour had returned to his world. 😆

Inconsiderate staff who couldn’t even pour the coffee in the right place. Did not even have the right caps for a Flat white takeaway cup. Not a single smile on any of the faces inside! Good coffee but a big 0 for the service.

I have been way reading some reviews about its unfriendliness toward book readers/locals and prefers to prey on tourists. Well indeed. The only thing that entices me is the “homemade gelato”. Unfortunately it’s nothing special. Thickness is alright, but lacks flavor and on the sweet side. Maybe im not lucky today the selection is also less interesting. The staff refuses my request for half and half scoops in a rather rude way and didn’t offer me to taste before picking. I took his recommendation of toffee and pecan over peanuts but sadly there is no pecan in my scoop— what an art. On a positive note, toffee and my fiend’s chocolate tasted better together. Mystery solved. Now I can confidently confirm that there’s nothing for me here. I have my other favorite places for gelato with better tastes and service.

Stopped by for a coffee, hot chocolate and a brownie. Brownie was good. Coffee was nice. Hot chocolate had a weird taste (sour). A bit expensive too, three items for £11.

Enjoyed wine on a rainy afternoon. The staff graciously gave me their iPhone charger to borrow and were very kind! Thank you! I loved the vibe here!

Une bonne adresse pour boire un verre de cocktail à un prix très raisonnable pour Cambridge, en terrasse avec vue sur King’s college. Il y a un happy hour, 2 cocktails pour 9 pounds! Il y a aussi un choix de café, thé et gâteaux pour l’après midi. Le personnel est souriant et sympa.

Came on a rainy August afternoon and enjoyed sitting outside under the canopy and watching the tourists walk by. Coffee and hot choc were delicious and very beautifully presented. Sausage rolls were super tasty, could have smashed quite a few!

Lovely iced coffee, with a great view of kings parade upstairs. They also do a happy hour, 5-7, and I highly recommend their slushy cocktails.

I spent £5 on two scoops of ice cream and the server cracked the cone so bad that 1 scoop fell out. I tried to eat what was left but the gelato had the consistency of the runs. I went to Toni’s ices instead, didn’t have to stand in a ridiculous queue and got a really good ice cream.

Delicious passion, fruit martini, pleasant service & great views to sit and enjoy your coffee, cocktail or soft drink. Was in town from Los Angeles to visit my niece.

Bought a 'lemonade' and settled to do some work, lemonade was just rather strong lemon squash. After little less than half an hour my partner (who didn't like anything there and was accompanying me) was rudely asked by the owner to 'buy something as this is a cafe'. (The servers were lovely) Extremely rude, overpriced and inhospitable to residents and students. Music was very loud and hard to talk over! I wouldn't recommend this as a place to relax, work a little or drink.

the portion was insanely generous. The flavours of gelato are interesting. Worth a try. Plus, you can enjoy looking at King’s magnificent but rejective gates through the window on the first floor, and wondering why you can’t finish the gelato as it was bottomless.

This place relies on tourists, rather than repeat trade, so they don't care about being polite. We were rudely asked to leave as soon as they thought we'd finished our drinks. (We hadn't.) This would have been fair enough if it was busy, but there was only one other couple in the place. I wouldn't go again.

Located in a touristy location, so prices are a bit higher, but i was okay with it since the quality of the hot chocolate was really good. The cup size was a bit smaller than i thought.

This place used to be my favorite cafe in Cambridge because it has amazing views, and used to be cosy, with nice music and usually busy with students and visitors. Staff and coffee were not great but good enough. But last visit all the good part of it it's gone completely. It's not cosy anymore, rather dark, empty of students and I'm not surprised because it because a cafe club, that ruins the experience. That's not new but that floor needs deep treatment to be clean. I hope it will go back how it was.

Charged more than advertised on the board (paid the price for a large when we had a “regular” which was more “small”). Wasn’t great coffee either. Nice location though, so a shame.

The terrace is lovely but the coffee was not really nice.

Popped into Benets Cafe for a quick mid shop cuppa and decided to have some ice cream too. The Ice Cream was definitely homemade and tasted delicious! I had a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of blackcurrant and both tasted delish together. Their seating outside was lovely as the autumn sunshine was gorgeous. I also had a green tea which to be honest was on the weak side, but still drinkable. I’ll definitely go back for the ice cream though!!

We didn’t actually end up staying the staff attitude was so poor. A luke warm greeting to the point where we asked if it was actually okay to get a table and upon ordering the staff where so rude we ended up deciding not to bother and going round the corner to a chain. Which is a real shame but I’d rather than do that than accept a terrible level of service.

Did not refund me after they ran out of oatmilk, staff was rude and unprofessional.

Very rude staff. Asked why he was speaking to us so rudely and he responded “well you don’t have to eat here”. So we walked right out.

I Went there for the first time after a recommendation from a friend, what a wonderful experience, staff were welcoming and the ice cream was to die for, I would highly recommend the Hazelnut & salted caramel ice cream absolutely superb!

Drinks are overpriced and medium quality. The ice cream is ok though.

They didn't tell me it was card only until after, which was not a huge issue unless one only has cash, but great flavors and cool cones, as well as delicious coffee and cocktails/mocktails!

A quaint and cosy cafe serving great milkshakes, hot drinks like coffee and a nice choice of gelato/ice cream. Friendly staff. Seating upstairs and outside. Only one small toilet.

This used to be one of my favourite cafes in Cambridge four years ago, but unfortunately that's not the case anymore. First of all, there has been a significant drop in the quality of the food offered (especially the brownies). I do not really know if this is partly due to the fact that the cafe is now smaller is size and its new kitchen is not that well-equipped. Secondly, there were small tables outdoors overlooking the imposing King's college. I really enjoyed sitting there sipping my coffee. However, those tables have now been replaced by benches and this is something I do not like as it means that you always have to share your table. The coffee is still good but it cannot make up for everything else.

Very average experience for premium prices. We paid over 20 pounds for two milkshakes, two cold sausage rolls and a pain au chocolat that tasted like it came straight from the supermarket.

I have accidentally dropped my ice cream and a Benets’ employee - unfortunately I have not asked her name - offered to buy me another one. That was the highlight of my day. So, not only are coffee and ice cream here delicious but people are extremely kind

Nice but very small Cafe. I had some really good Coffee and Milkshake. Its possible to Order different milk like soya, oak Milk and so on. The taste was good, and youll find also many cakes and really nice Milkshakes. Its also possible to Order icecream. The stuff was friendly and i get my Order after a few minutes. Its close to the University - youll find the university across the street.

The price is expensive I think, although, the milkshake for example was super great. I think there is more expensive because they are in front of Kings College, but anyway. The ambient is cute and I had my order super fast to drink.

Not impressed from the staff (completely ignored us)

Great! Would recommend sitting upstairs. Only annoying thing is they serve coffee of glasses with no handles! These can cause discomfort when getting the drink, and also means your drink gets cold very fast. #giveusmugs

We sat on their outside tables and had hot drinks, but couldn't resist a scoop or two of their gelato (despite the cold evening weather) as it looked too good to resist. The location is gorgeous, sunset over the college is not to be missed

Stopped here for a quick hot chocolate whilst out shopping 😊. Seating inside and out on Kings parade, lovely to sit in the winter sun and people watch. They had a selection of cakes with GF options too. Lovely smooth hot chocolate very tasty 😋

Substandard experience in all honesty. One of the small issues I have is the fact that I asked them to make sure my coffee is not steaming hot, so it won’t burn my tongue or anything. Exactly how I like it. The cashier agreed to the request yet just didn’t carry it out at all. In all fairness the sausage roll was absolutely stunning. However the cups are a mess, you’re not given a mixer with the cup and the cups make such a mess. There are mostly no spaces to sit inside so the only option is outside which is absolutely terrible on a winters windy day, I’m sure it’s lovely in the summer. The Americans coffee was mediocre at best, not helped by the fact you can’t even mix the sugar. Wouldn’t recommend. Maybe only in summer.

Considering the ultra-touristy location, I was pleasantly surprised at the coffee quality here at Benets. An extensive menu and third-wave coffee beans on sale, this cafe can compete with Hot Numbers and Bould Brothers. The gelato is also not to be missed.

Welcome back to R&H's crazy food reviews, This time we are looking at Benet's Cafe. Firstly when we tried to order their Benet's chocolate brownie sundae special, the staff seemed confused at what the order was even though it's on their menu. Then they informed us they were out of brownies. So instead we got a large hot chocolate with marshmallows which came up to nearly £5, even though the cup size was so small. Wanted to give this place the "Bene-fit" of the doubt but Jack's Gelato is just up the road. Until next time, Pasta la Vista.

I bought a hot chocolate and pastry and sat alone reading a book in a corner upstairs. After 1.5 hours the owner comes and tells me I have to leave and I "can't just sit and read a book" because they have other customers. I told them I've never received this request before and that I thought it was strange. She responded by sighing in my face and walking off. Do not go here if you intend to sit for more than an hour. You might get asked to leave. Awful.

We got an absolutely fantastic ice cream from here while staying in the nearby hotel du vin to sneak back into our room! Pistachio and cherry it was out of this world good. Staff were lovely and place, despite end of the night, was very clean and Covid safe.

There are lots of great coffee shops in Cambridge with exceptional service and lovely coffee, but unfortunately this is not one of them. Pictured is my “flat white”. The updated look and decor of the cafe is the only real positive.
