I had a carrot cake here today which was pretty nice (but a touch dry)! The location and seating was great, but I was charged £6.19 for a cake which was apparently £5.25 to eat in, which I shrugged off at the time but found somewhat surprising after the fact!

A quick note that the prices at this venue are not as advertised: when you purchase a cake at the till and take it to a table yourself, an obligatory 18% service charge is added on top of the advertised 'dine-in' price. The two stars are for how nice the cakes looked (shame I didn't get the chance to eat one).

Absolutely awful service. Visited on the 14th December at lunch time. Must have been around 6 tables of people, most of which had food/drinks already when we arrived. We were told to order via the QR code on the app, which we did. 15 minutes later, we had no drinks or any communication so I went to check to make sure everything was ok (as I said it wasn’t overly busy and there were several staff on) I was abruptly told by the manager they had the order and I’d ’just have to wait’ Another 10 minutes passed snd one of the servers came to the table to tell me the soup I’d ordered wasn’t available, and if the other one was ok. Told her it was fine and asked about a wait time due it already being 20 minutes or so, and being a diabetic I needed to eat as I’d already taken my insulin, she told me it would be another 30 minutes. We’d offered pancakes, soup and 2 drinks so don’t see how that’s even possible??? Asked her to check to see if anything could be done, she then came back and told me she could make me some toast! As a diabetic who has to inject based on the food they eat, this was beyond suitable. Bear in mind in the whole time we had been there, no other customers had come in, and everyone bar one table of 4 had their food. Eventually I asked for a refund and we left, although it took us having to get up, and ask again for them to do this. The manager apologised and told us we could wait still, but I felt humiliated by the whole experience and eventually she did the refund. Avoid at all costs as clearly the manager and kitchen staff can’t cope even if it’s not overly busy!

I hate leaving these kind of review but honestly we had a really poor experience here today. It’s also really interesting to read other reviews that mentioned that the QR code on the table doesn’t work. We ordered via scanning the QR code on the table and after 30 minutes of waiting for food plus a coffee and a lemonade, we had received nothing so we decided to ask the waiter if everything was okay as drinks should take 5 minutes to make. We were told that the QR codes on the table weren’t working due to poor internet connection so our order hadn’t gone through despite the fact it took my money!!! This is so poor and actually inexcusable, considering we had told two waiters who came to take our order that we had already ordered via the QR code and nobody mentioned that it wasn’t working. Now seeing previous reviews I’m even more angry, get rid of the QR codes on the tables if it doesn’t work, absolutely ridiculous stuff. The waiter then came and took our order again and guess what our drinks never came and we had to be refunded. The food did come and it was gross, I got a BLT and there was no tomato … 3 ingredients in the sandwich and they forgot one, like really? The sandwich came with chips and I counted 12 pathetic chips on the plate that were cold and undercooked, I couldn’t eat them. We got a few salad leaves on the side drenched in a dressing and we got no cutlery and no napkins. Tried to find a waiter to ask for cutlery etc but nobody was around on the floor and at this point we had been there over an hour and we needed to leave as we had a booking for an excursion so we just ate what we could and left. All the tables around us were also complaining about the waiting time, food turning up with missing items and no drinks arriving at all, it wasn’t just us. This place needs a manager, there didn’t seem to be anyone taking control and trying to fix some of the issues that were happening. This place isn’t cheap, sandwiches are expensive so I’d expect much better quality food and much better service.

We spent £40 on an afternoon tea for two and had to wait an hour until it arrived as they were understaffed. The portion sizes were very small, and the cakes looked unappetising and tasted equally bad. In general I’m someone who is easy to please and I don’t like complain, but after having spent £40 on this I feel obliged to warn others not to make the same mistake I did. The staff were very nice, but the food just was not good, took a very long time to arrive and the place itself felt grubby.

It took an age for our order to arrive. There was no free table to sit at that was not piled with uncleared remnants of previous guests. Cake, when it came, was overly sweet, dry as a biscuit and artificial tasting. And the tea came 10 mins later. On top of that it was very expensive.

No welcome and app on table doesn’t work. Cakes were made at least two days ago by the chewy text of the flaky pastry. coffee was nice though. Toilet facilities didn’t have any paper and locks in doors insufficient. Feeling sick as I write this from the soured cream in the eclair. Big avoid from me.

Can’t rate the food because we didn’t even get a menu! Stopped by today 28/08/24 in Cambridge at lunch time. Was taken to a table and just left there! No menu no interaction. We looked desperately at passing waiting staff but they just looked straight ahead every time ! After 12 minutes we got up and left, we saw at least 1 table of 4 that clearly wanted to order but again the staff just walked by! So disappointed.

I cannot rate the service, I ordered a cake for delivery for my husband's birthday. The black forest gateau was absolutely divine. It was delivered In dry ice and well packed with no issues. The only major issue is that at the till online, I saw balloons (it was a very last minute impulse click to add them to the basket) and out of a box of 5 balloons, we managed to inflate 2, the other 3 just broke apart in our hands. They are clearly either very old or not stored properly. We didn't even bother opening the other boxes (we bought 3 boxes of5 ). I learned my lesson to only stick to cakes from this place

Last Monday was absolutely awful due to the heatwave. My partner and I just wanted to buy some ice cream and head back to our car. It was somewhere between 2 and 4 pm. On our way to the car park, I noticed a place that looked really nice, so I thought they might have good-quality ice cream. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to try it. There was no one at the entrance (which wasn’t necessary) or near the ice cream area. I didn’t see anyone behind the counter, so we walked a few steps to where a sign said, "Wait here to be seated." After a few seconds, a young guy approached us. Without even asking what we wanted, he just said, "We don't have space for you." When I looked behind him and saw an almost empty room, he added, "We have a lot of reservations!" Fair enough, they might have been reserved, but I didn’t even want to sit down. I just wanted to buy some ice cream to go, especially since they had an ice cream cart with cones at the entrance, which suggested they were selling something like that. He could and should have greeted us nicely and then asked what we wanted. I worked in hospitality in the past, and I would never treat a customer this way.

I placed an order for a cake online for delivery. Firstly the cake was delicious there is no question about the quality of their product. However their customer service leaves alot to be desired. I was given a discount code for free delivery and it would not work. Nor was the delivery costs visible. Once ordered I was surprised that delivery was £12.95. Within minutes I reached out to the team about this issue and was shut down really quickly with no reasonable explanation as to why the delivery costs were not visible, why my code wouldn't work and that there is nothing they can do to resolve, refund or reimburse me any costs. As good as the cake was I doubt I would order from them again.

I am writing this as a former employee trying to get in contact with someone about documents regarding my employment last year. I have called the store close to a dozen times now and not once have they picked up the phone. If I was a customer calling then I can imagine what they must be feeling right now! I don’t have any former employees contact information and this is the only way I am able to contact anyone regarding this matter. I am needing to speak to someone ASAP about this as I am on a time frame and the fact the nobody in the store is answering the company phone is quite disappointing!

I’m sorry but this place was horrendous. We had a gift voucher for afternoon tea. The place was horrifically understaffed although it wasn’t remotely busy. It took ages to get seated (seated ourselves in the end) and took ages for our food to come. When it came the sandwiches and cakes were completely dry and stale. I didn’t ask for them to be replaced as they took so so long to come we didn’t have time to wait all over again. They gave us the wrong scones and forgot our drinks. I sadly wouldn’t come again

We travelled one and a half hour drive and walked for 25 minutes to an afternoon tea purchased by a friend as a Xmas present for me and my husband. When we arrived it was nearly empty and waitress told us to find a seat and she would clean it for us. She then asked what we wanted, I said cream tea, she replied we only have plain scones to which I replied that was fine. I asked if she wanted to see my voucher and showed her to be told we have run out of afternoon tea! I then explained we tried to book but it stated on website no need to book it’s available all day, it was only approximately 2.30 pm, 3pm at the latest!! The lady was very rude and told me tuff basically, I could not believe her attitude, there was no sorry we have run out just tough you will have to come back! I can totally understand the stores closing with this kind of service and also when contacting customer service them saying let us know when you plan to go and we will get them to save you one! Very bad customer service

I don't know what has happened but the level of service and quality of the food has really deteriorated, when compared to pre-pandemic times. I went with a friend to use a Groupon voucher for their brunch menu. Both our orders were misunderstood, including the drinks which we had requested to arrive after the food and which arrived before. The staff seemed 'somewhere else'. The place wasn't at all busy, but our food took quite a time to arrive and with items missing, followed by what seemed unneccessarily confusing conversations in their attempt to explain and eventually rectify things. Very disappointing. I'd return just to see if it was one-off, and I'd have a cake next time, which I know they're good at.

Don’t waste your time! Waited 30 minutes for three drinks and three pre-sliced pieces of cake. We asked staff for an update and they screamed of incompetence nobody gave us an update and they walked around like headless chickens who had forgotten we had even ordered as it didn’t look like they could find it? Ten minutes later we left with no update and having had no service after almost 45 minutes of waiting for a very very simple order and what shocked me was the fact the cake I had ordered was sat on a plate and just abandoned! Staff were completely incompetent and we watched them stand around talking instead of fulfilling orders for almost the whole time we were there!

Drinks were included too and were lovely, this made the experience a really joyful one. Staff were excellent, always very helpful and the service was efficient. My partner had a cooked breakfast (pre-made again) which was very bad, and ordered with toast, which never came until we’d finished our meals. Very disappointing, and terrible service. Wouldn’t come again.

Today me and my young kids age 7 and 5 going to have afternoon tea after school at 15:35 because they shut at 5.we got voucher from Groupon and will be expired tomorrow,and one of the staff (Indian bloke with long hair and beard sorry trying to describe a staff) said I’m sorry Maam afternoon tea only available from 11:30-15:30 and I was like ohh really?and he said don’t worry ma’am,about your voucher expire tomorrow,I’m going to take a picture of your voucher and you can come any day and I ask can I come this weekend instead he said yeah and he also ask for my name.When I got home receive notification from my email saying that my voucher already been redeemed and I’m not even use it yet.Im so disappointed with the Cambridge Pattiserie Valerie 😡.

At around 3:45 pm today on a Sunday (they close at 5pm), we visited the place but were denied entry by the cashier due to not having a reservation, despite half of the restaurant being empty. It's disheartening because we enjoyed it there in the past. Due to this, we also skip the plan to buy take away. Apparently, reservations are required on weekends.

Shambles of a place. Really lovely front of house guy - but trying to do 10 jobs at once. Waited for table service, but eventually realised you must order at till. We had eaten our cake long before our drinks arrived. Cake and drinks were delicious though happily. This place is not cheap and is supposed to be a bit of a treat - it needs to employ sufficient staff.

Came here for an afternoon tea for friends birthday. I'd called before to explain one was pregnant so to ensure no seafood etc and booked a table... arrive on the day and the only two options we are given are ham or salmon... the salmon is the sushi type salmon which isn't safe during pregnancy and she doesn't eat pork so we ask if they can make a plain cheese and cucumber sandwich... especially since they're advertised as vegetarian friendly... neither salmon or ham are vegetarian... the guy grumbles and says they're not supposed to change the set menu and then eventually after we refused to budge saying we're not eating salmon or ham, he agrees to make cheese sandwiches... we then asked if we could both have fruit scones as the menu states fruit OR plain and he states that the menu is afternoon for TWO and that means one of us must have the plain scone and the other fruit scone... we both explained we only like fruit scones and eventually he agrees to do two fruit scones. Then for the dessert part of the afternoon tea he states its a set chocolate cake, strawberry cake and macaroons. We both stated we don't like macaroons and did change for a biscoff pastry which was fine. Then the food all comes out and at first we thought they were bringing it out for one and then another stand for the second person but no that was to share... 4 tiny finger sandwiches each and the smallest scones I've ever had at afternoon tea and the tiniest bite sized cakes, lucky we'd had breakfast before we came! The cheese sandwiches were a mixture of plastic cheap tasting cheese and what tasted like children's cheese spread, not the quality you'd expect for paying nearly £40! They also stated that the only hot drinks were coffee and tea and we stated she's pregnant and they agreed to change to hot chocolate but when they brought it out it was a plain boring hot chocolate, again not what you'd expect like a fancy hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows etc especially since the tea and coffee with afternoon tea is usually unlimited and they only agreed to switch for ONE small hot chocolate. Overall the setting was pretty for photos but the food and service was a big disappointment. If we hadn't pre paid via a voucher then we would have probably gone somewhere else after they were awkward about changing the sandwiches.

The croissants here are so flaky and delicious and very buttery, they tasted fresh as the where freshly made that morning, i highly recommend coming here for something savoury or something sweet it caters to all tastes! The staff are incredibly friendly and there was no queue when entering. I highly recommend this little bakery when you’re next in Cambridge.

The service was slow and like mentioned in other reviews, people were walking out as the staff didn’t appear to know what was going on. Alongside this, was the embarrassment of the manager raging at the staff in front of us customers as if we couldn’t hear. Ruined what had been a nice day as the experience of eating there left us feeling on edge and feeling as though we needed to apologise for eating there. Obviously won’t go back but will be looking at the little coffee and donut shop just up the road.

A group of six of us went there for an afternoon tea and after an initial warm welcome, they took our order - just drinks and cakes. Over an hour later, we got some drinks, but they were the wrong ones, so another 10 minutes later we finally got our correct drinks. Probably around 20 minutes after that we got some of our cakes, this is after some customers who had arrived after us, received their orders ahead of us. It didn't end there, when we eventually went to pay, there were many things missing from the bill and the staff seemed to be totally confused as to what we had. Quite unbelievably bad service.

Very disappointed in the service. We were seated and told our table would be cleaned shortly. We waited 15 minutes and our order was only taken because another member of staff that wasn't our server saw my wife looking frustrated. After we ordered the 1 coffee 2 soft drinks and 3 cakes we wanted, I noticed people that came in after us were seated and served and we still had a dirty table we left without being served.

Initially went in and they were busy but they asked us to come back. When we did, they seemed understaffed, but the manager did his best to ensure we were served and taken care of! And the waitress who came to check on us to make sure we were served was very pleasant! Overall a lovely experience, and well worth the experience voucher I had!

Poor service. Unable to provide oatmilk. Slow service. Unable to heat the oatmilk until requested for a chocolate drink. All other customers complaining of a 20 minute wait time. Unable to seat people despite an abundance of open chairs. 6 or so staff not making a particular effort with attending to the needs of the customers but instead prioritising those who get up to complain and their needs are met instantly. Shocking to be frank.

Oh my gosh. What has happened to Patisserie Valerie? I ordered a millefeuille - a pastry, which should be good here - and the cream had split (gross) and the pastry was rubbery. Absolutely awful. The tea was average quality. The service was mixed (from what I could see at the other tables, they were getting a lot of orders wrong). What a mess. I used to come here all the time before Covid and it was terrific. I don’t know what has happened to it but I would not recommend going there. There are dozens of quality pastry shops and cafés in Cambridge. This is a waste of your money.

Ordered drinks and Teacakes. Drinks weren’t particularly hot. Had finished drinks and had to remind waitress about Teacakes which we then saw being brought from the kitchen/freezer in a large bag. I have never had such terrible service as we did here on Saturday. Thought we would call in for a coffee and toasted teacake. We were only the 2nd table of people in the restaurant. The waiting staff were wearing puffer coats and completely disinterested. 15 mins foam coffee and toasted teacake ridiculous. Overall very poor experience. Called ahead to ensure they could accommodate an afternoon tea and was told they could. When we arrived we were told they were understaffed and we’re not doing afternoon tea. The server eventually agreed if we came back in an hour they would have it prepared. When we came back, nothing had been prepared. Eventually got seated and served and the food was very poor. Was served an “egg mayo” roll with one piece of egg white in. Cakes and scones were nice but the service ruined the experience overall.

Probably the worst breakfast I've had in years. The poached egg was cold,sweet potato was uncooked and hard , spinach was lifeless and almost none existence, mushroom was overcooked but halloumi was ok ,no taste to the breakfast. The service was very poor had to be asked twice what coffee we ordered with a good 15 minute wait despite 2 other people being in there and waiter didn't know what was a latte and a cappuccino wow !! . Sadly we walked out without saying thank you not that they noticed as they were too busy chatting.

The man who served us was friendly and polite but the standard of food we had was very poor. The Bagel was stale with very little salmon and the poached egg on Sour dough bread with Avocado was awful. Presentation was very poor, the Avocado was roughly chopped and put onto soggy bread which wasn’t toasted and the egg was over cooked and cold. The other slice of toast had a handful of halved tomato’s piled on to it, presentation and quality very poor. Wish we had just had cake as they are prepared off site. Hygiene poor as a member of staff was eating while preparing serving customers.

Went there this weekend after ages (I used to love this place when I was a student at Cambridge). The place has become terrible to say the least. Unprofessional staff, stale dry cake which gave me food poisoning, the kitchen on the way to the washroom looked filthy. Waited forever with zero service. AWFUL AWFUL SERVICE. I went to the Costa 40 hills road cambridge to use the toilet as I’ve just come from another Costa downed my drink on the way and funnily enough needed the Loo after being on a train! Always loved Costa and the service, but no, not here. I asked politely to use the toilet and got told ‘it’s for customers’, I’ve spent all my money on Christmas shopping I didn’t need to spend more on another food or drink item I didn’t need just to use the toilet, I suffer with anxiety and using somewhere I feel comfortable and am familiar with is important to me. I feel disheartened by the situation I found myself in, and wish to bring light to this situation as I now feel embarrassed to ask for a simple human right. This is horrible to admit but it has also tainted my view of the company and their policy along with morale and common decency. I hope you can get back to me privately. If you wish to take this further I would be obliged. Reply with details for contact as I have also messaged your instagram. And commented. I appreciate this should not be an issue to respond to, however I feel extremely frustrated by this situation.
