Popped in early afternoon for a pint during a brief stop off in the area. Absolutely nothing special, only a couple of other customers. £6.05 for a very average pint of Guinness, would expect to pay that for a pint of craft beer. Where did the 5p come from?

A hideous experience from entrance to exit. I think this was hospitality at its worst. We entered the bar to order drinks, we were told to go into the conservatory and someone would take our drinks order....time went by...the pub didn't seem very busy, other customers entered, ordered their drinks at the bar and carried them to their tables. 15ish minutes later we still hadn't been served. I went to the bar and asked the young lady if we had been sent out into the conservatory and forgotten....We were served immediately. I ordered a black coffee and pint of guiness. To add insult to injury the small cup of coffee came in a chipped cup with a used dirty spoon. I took it back to the bar and eventually was served with another small black coffee. We were charged £8.10 for a pint of guiness and small black coffee. The apologies received, I felt were empty, not backed up with any gestures or sincerity. I wondered if this is how you treat all of your new customers?

Ignore some of the previous reviews. The pub has been taken over and refurbished. It's kept the old character but now clean and tidy with hard flooring with the original lovely, old brickwork on show still. Excellent choice of beers. Simon the landlord and his team are a very friendly, welcoming bunch. Plus dogs allowed now too. Definitely mine and my partners favourite local pub now!

I rang ahead and booked a table to two. When we arrived, we entered the restaurant, and found a member of staff who seated us in the empty restaurant, asking if we wanted the lights turned on!. We were very disappointed with the very limited menu, choice of main course limited to 6 burger options, and 4 other options, 2 of which were pasta based. We gave our order, when our drinks arrived, and after waiting a further 55 minutes, we left the money for our drinks on the table, and left. In the whole time we waited in the empty restaurant, we were not once approached by a member of staff to ask if everything was fine, or to be informed of the progress of our meals (which should have taken no more than 15 minutes to prepare). Appalling service. We will not go there again and to be honest, we are surprised they are still in business.

Don't be fooled by the dog friendly tag on the board at the front. With the minimum of at least water for a dog unfortunately there is no sign of. Coupled with sharp flint on the floor means any dog not comfortable. Call me picky but Bank Holiday would see most of the pumps available. Sadly the opposite applies here. Most pumps have a sad glass covering them indicating "that ones off". Could be really nice with a little thought. Better pubs closer that are actually dog friendly & you stand a chance of actually drinking a beer that you want.

Visited for evening meal for four of us. From start to finish very pleasant experience. Greeted with a welcoming smile when we entered. Lovely waitress nothing was too much trouble. We had starters of garlic mushrooms and Halloumi all of which were lovely. Followed by Haddock and chicken burgers. Large portions again all fresh. No ping pong food here! If anyone doesn’t know what that means, (it means frozen and microwaved) it was all freshly cooked. Had dessert even though we were full. Cheesecake and sticky toffee puddings. Owners were very welcoming friendly and engaged in conversation. Pleasant surroundings and nice and clean. I would recommend this and we will be returning, and I am not always easy to please!! Well done to all the staff.

Been in many times, since the new owners took over and pleased with the decoration, I haven't eaten here yet, but hear good reports, the big downer for me and most of my friends is that even though the landlord promised and advertises craft ales, on the website, beers like Tribute and London Pride are not craft ales! There is a massive choice of lagers etc, so why not support craft ale producers/brewers? I see many locals in pubs not too far away that have craft beers available, so the EA is losing custom IMHO, I'm happy supporting my local and the pub do the same with local brewers please.
