The Spread Eagle in Northampton

Popped in early afternoon for a pint during a brief stop off in the area. Absolutely nothing special, only a couple of other customers. £6.05 for a very average pint of Guinness, would expect to pay that for a pint of craft beer. Where did the 5p come from?

Just tried to enter this empty pub, couldn't understand what the doorman was saying but general gist was that we were going in the wrong door. Outrageously rude, plenty of pubs nearby that mind what door you go in. Give it a miss.

This is my go to pub, honestly couldn’t pick a better venue to go on a night out, staff always friendly and pool table for those who like to have a bit of entertainment while drinking

Perfect for a night out or day drinking, female safe initiatives always make me feel secure to have a night out without worry

Decent but the light isn’t in the middle of the pool table which made me miss my shots

Came for dinner. Had called and been told the kitchen would be open until 7pm. Arrived in plenty of time and the kitchen was already closed. We went to the local beefeater instead.

Good fun as it was busy and the DJ was ok. Oh and I was with friends, let's face it you can be in a dive anywhere with friends and it's good when you're with friends. The Spread Eagle was really good inside I liked the library section 😀 and I certainly not a dive! The bar staff were great and worked well at a good pace. Not a great choice of beer though I was disappointed with that!

My meal companion was late (held up on a bus) and suggested I pop in for a drink while waiting before going on to the restaurant. When I commented (uncritically) that I couldn't hear what the lady bartender was saying " because of the music" her sharp response was "It's not loud!" (I have a hearing impairment - minor - and wear visible hearing aids.) A 'small' glass of Australian shiraz was almost £6 and tasted stewed: plainly the bottle had been opened and left. (It's a beer bar.) And the table was sticky! There were just a couple of customers, so you'd have thought the bartenders could have wiped the tables. Not impressive. What happened to polite service - even friendliness?

Great pub. Great pint. The staff were friendly & very chatty. Not a bad place to call into on the way home from cricket. Recommend

I went here for a party in September, the atmosphere was great, the bar staff were so friendly, the toilets were clean, the prices were reasonable, and I love that they make sure that all females are safe in the pub and make sure you get home safe.

wow what an amazing pub ! the bar staff made me feel so welcome and safe, the venue itself has had a massive change around very clean and comfortable, the female safe initiative in this pub lives up to its name im a 25 year old woman and came in by myself and the staff went above and beyond to make sure i felt safe and welcome. the atmosphere itself was amazing good music and great value drinks will definitely be making this place my new go to !

Great please. We had a great time singing our hearts out and dancing. Amazing atmosphere compared to the rest of the street. We dropped out tray of drinks and they also kindly replaced them. Thankyou! ❤️❤️

Live singer! She was wonderful. My partner and I came out of a restaurant and had a great after dinner serenade. Staff were great. This is a classic pub in the most straightforward of ways, looks rough on the outside but don't let that fool you, everyone is lovely here. If that's what you're looking for then you'll have a great time!

What a excellent weekend at The Spread Eagle with live music. All staff were very welcoming and also operates a female safe environment. The pub was clean and friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit on Welly road ☺️

We had 2 roast chicken dinners. Arrived piping hot and well made. Will definitely order again.

Just got myself a takeaway Sunday Roast beef And it was absolutely spot on at £10.95 Perfect Roast potatoes a good selection of very fresh vegetables Yorkshire pudding and Roast parsnip and plenty of gravy. such good quality and value for the money. Thank you

This place is an absolute joke, ordered roast lamb dinner which I could take a pic to show the people the absolute joke they sent not even one full slice of fresh meat a couple of chunks that was it… NEVER I REPEAT NEVER ORDER from this place it’s a joke. And they charged nearly £6 for a dessert that was as small as this places reputation for food should be. Absolute daylight robbery. An absolute joke they should be ashamed of themselves.

I had the lamb roast and my gosh it was absolutely stunning!

Best roast dinner I have ever had delivered! Tasted amazing and was beautifully presented. I just wish I could've added a little more to the portion size (maybe large option or individual things to add more of) but was so tasty none the less.

Simply sublime. A real treat for the taste buds. Could've come with more meat but overall, proper lush.

We thoroughly enjoyed our festive turkey dinners. Large portions great taste and very well presented. The dessert of Chocolate brownie and ice cream melted in the mouth. I can't wait to try more dishes.

Such an unwelcoming pub I have ever been to in my life. No data collection for covid track and trace. The elderly lady who was from what I could gather the manager barked aggressively at us telling us to be quiet? Hello it’s a pub! ( there was 6 of us all middle aged women) Also shouted at us for forgetting our mask which is understandable but not when she thinks because she is exempt from wearing one she wondered all around the pub from table to table serving with no mask herself and whilst your sat you too don’t wear one! This in itself is a massive risk to your customers. Being exempt does not mean you should be at the front of house to transmit. She is exceptionally rude aggressive and if she doesn’t like people she shouldn’t work in the hospitality sector.

Never in my life have I given such a poor review, but I feel I have to tell of my experience at Spread Eagle last night and the 2 staff members we encountered. It started off with my husband asking if the pub were taking part in the Government’s 50% off Food and Drink scheme and was told by the barwoman, “no” as it was only off food to which my husband tried to put her right and say it can be for soft drinks only. (It didn’t matter if they weren’t taking part but she wouldn’t believe him when he said it can be for just drinks without the food). I know he pointed at her saying she was wrong (shouldn’t point at people as it looks aggressive, however, he was smiling and left it at that). We went to Spread Eagle to take part in their quiz as we’ve done it before Covid. The quiz part was great. However during it, another server came over and proceeded to take my glass away even though there was clearly a few drinks in it. I took it back off of her, which in hindsight I shouldn’t have done as her fingers touched the rim of the glass. Don’t think she liked that as soon after I heard it sound like she dropped something initially very loudly behind the bar. I did not feel there was much safe distancing in the pub. There were a few shields but not much and I cannot see how the bar staff or customers would be protected from it anyway. There wasn’t any “track and trace” system set up in place as in other places we’ve been to. A few other annoyances were, one of them went out for a cigarette then proceeded to work behind the bar without washing her hands. The quiz finished around 10:20pm and we sat chatting with our friends. At 10:30 pm one of the servers asked if we were finished with our drinks (no, we had about 1/3 left in our glasses) and we were told to drink up! I mean, the quiz master was still clearing up, why she asked us to drink up---well we were made to feel very unwelcome and I cannot imagine we’ll be back in a hurry. I can understand it if someone has had a bad day, but both of them?

Lovely pub, knew the old owners that just left it honestly felt like home to me been there since I was younger, I would definitely recommend going in for a pint and a chin wag with the other people in the pub the stuff are very friendly. 10/10 would go again!

Fantastic pub on the Wellingborough Road in Northampton, no frills, solid boozer, great staff, good dj's at the weekend, lovely atmosphere for a weekend night out.

I would describe this place as a drinkers pub. A bit dull inside. Staff were good and seating OK but there are much better pubs nearby so I won't be going back.

Decent pub, some live bands around on random nights, great pool table too! Car park behind the pub for anyone in need of one.

Drinks in here are dearer than the other pubs in the area and the bar staff and customers appeared to know each other and it felt a little uncomfortable.. Got stared at as we walked in, felt like were invading private territory. No atmosphere at all, well not a friendly one in any case.

Been in here a few times since the recent do up. Always been happy with the service and the wine and beers. We noticed that the menu was priced cheaper than our usual lunch venue so we thought we'd try the food one time. And that was it. We shan't do that again.... Just about edible. Cheap but not up to it.

Por mucho el mejor lugar para beber y comer en la calle, Northampton Wellingborough. Este sitio me pareció un poco desaliñada con mesas y muebles para sentarse. sucio Los retretes no eran muy agradable y bastante mal. Es un lugar para ir mans después de un duro día de trabajo duro donde pueden alojarse en su vestimenta de trabajo y no molestar al estar bajo vestidos. El menú no es extenso, y la comida es muy básica y no muy bien presentado. Me fui con algunos amigos pero sin duda hombres no iría con la esposa o mujer amigos. Así que no mucho más se puede decir, lo que una escucha la próxima vez que esté en Northampton.
