Hired out for my sisters 18th birthday party, Lots of room for every one, very well run, And drink prices were realy good, Would recommend With free parking and along kingsthorpe front it is very ideal

Absolutely amazing atmosphere as soon as you walk in, bar staff are very friendly and makes you feel welcome, I had my 18th party here and I couldn’t of picked a better place to do it, drinks are cheaper than any other place I’ve been to, if you want to chill and have a good time then this is the place for you to come and drink at !!

Had my girlfriends 18th here this pub is brilliant highly recommended had a brilliant night and the drinks are nice and cheap and the bar staff was great nice and friendly

What a dump! carpark looks like a scrap yard with loads of dumped rotting trucks and cars / filth. Inside is not much better , filled with all the ,local piss-heads, we quickly left, such a shame to see this old building being used like this. needs closing down.

Decent pub, great atmosphere, polite staff and not bad prices for drinks either. I only popped into one and ended up having several more !

Just been taken over by new management and the place is just being renovated. The rear bar is next to finished, lovely welcome, great service, can't wait to see it fully open being fully utilised.

Basically a scam operation. The manager told a friend of mine they were interested in me DJing at The Old Five Bells. I tried to contact them via phone several times but they never answered. So I popped in around mid day on a week day, was rudely told to email as they were too busy. They never replied to my emails, and five years later I've got a £400 fine on my credit score due to using the car park whilst visiting the pub for a business meeting. They don't reply to emails or phone calls, social media messages and I wouldn't dare drive there again for fear of being fined again. This place has one of the worst reputations in the town for bad food, bad atmosphere and treating their customers and community badly.

A pub I am a disgraceful condition, from th we frontage it appears as if it's closed . Overgrown former outdoor seating area . Inside industrial metal flooring on the most part ( a health & safety hazard if your seat is on it as on standing, seat goes one way and you go the other ), was such a good pub in the past ( I'm 67 now and it's always been part of my life ,as a local) .needs a good clear up but looks like it appears to be left to rot.

The place has probably seen better days but the drinks are cheap and there is plenty of parking outside - don't forget to enter your reg number though!

So me and my little brother were uncomfortable with some younger boys outside as they were carrying metal poles and causing trouble on the front of kingsthorpe they were being rude to others and very loud. we went in because we thought it was a safe space and the man in there told us to leave I explained the situation and he continued to tell us they’re on the other side of the road and to go we were scared as my brother being trans we thought they were going to be rude but yeh that was our first experience going in when it first opened not good for first impressions

Very welcoming including for my 2 year old son. We came in for the loo from Kingsthorpe fair and they let us use it no questions asked so we came back after to thank them and return the favour Only been back open a week or so, highly recommend that you support these guys they are truly lovely 💙

Penalty notice of overstay in the car park £160 !! I'd find a pub with a free car park if you are looking to go out for a drink/ meal. I won't be going anywhere near this dump. I'm always suspicious of the good reviews when there are so many bad reviews.

Unless you want the most expensive pint of beer in the world do not under any circumstances go to this pub. They have a parking system where you enter your registration number on the iPad in the bar but no proof that you have done so. Therefore when you get a parking ticket you have absolutely no proof that you are innocent of the charge and will be charged a minimum of £40. I believe the landlady has the power to contact the parking company to quash the charge but the cow that she is she decided that she didn’t like our faces and therefore was not going to help us. You have been warned.

We had a wake yesterday after funeral. They looked after us really well. Plenty of good quality food, tea and coffee. Recomend them. The whole family were pleased.

We had a wake here today,the room was really clean well laid out They catered a cold buffet for 100 people, very nicely prepared and of good quality. The bar staff were very friendly and cheerful. Would hold a family event here again. Well done

Lovely afternoon here, great roast from Mickeys Café

Went for roast dinner and was beautiful, the staff were polite and cheery, joined in conversation, the food was incredible and I cannot reccomend the orange chocolate cake enough! Would definitely go again

First visit on Monday nite, new quiz, great fun, quiz done using you phone or pad, so no cheating!! Food looks good, but haven't tried any yet.

Excellent pub including Mickey's Cafe for Breakfasts and lunches during the day and bar meals in the evening.

Called in on way back home. Looked a bit unloved from outside, car park needs tidying but wait until you step inside. A friendly welcoming atmosphere, lovely lady behind the bar..... Ordering food from the other side of the room was a bit odd, and calling our drink order out across to the bar was bizarre. Early days for the food "Micks Cafe", plain simple meals but plenty on the plate... Well presented, served efficiently with a smile. The only thing was we couldn't get a pudding as food had stopped being served when we were ready to order ... Perhaps. If we had been told we may have ordered all at the same time... Live music started at 3.00pm... Not overly loud we could still have a conversation without shouting... Anyone visiting to play bowls at Kingsthorpe Bowls Club, keep your eyes out for this place.... I am so glad I stuck to my choice of pub. "Never judge a book by its cover"

First visit and will definitely be back. Food very good. Service good. Prices very reasonable. Only down point. It is a little bit dark as you walk in which could put some visitors off.

There's been loads of hype about the perils of parking here...don't worry! It's a good bar for meeting up and having laugh. Ignore the parking fine. It's just a request and has no legal basis. This is a pub I frequent quite often. The bar staff are the most polite and friendly that you will ever come across. The landlady and landlord are the most welcoming duo ever. There is something happening there most weekends. If you’re ever in Kingsthorpe you should pop in and have a drink or two. Can guarantee you won’t find a better pub around. You’ve tried the rest, now come try the best. You will not be disappointed

I visit the Old Bells often and I’m never disappointed! Lovely staff, accommodating owners and the atmosphere is brilliant! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming! Wouldn’t want to go anywhere else!

I never fail to have an amazing time each time I visit The Old Five Bells. Fantastic landlady, bar staff and the clientele are some of the best. You will always receive a very warm welcome and guaranteed fun! There is always something happening from rock n roll afternoons, Irish Sunday Fundays, open mic nights and some of the best bands in the country! This pub really does have it all

Private party the staff were very friendly. The beer was good.

Not enough staff, but the 2 that were on were fabulous. But over worked! Should have had at least 1 more staff member as the 2 staff were running both bars. And 3 out of 4 toilets in the ladies had no toilet seats on! GROSS!!!

This used to be a bit of a dive but is vastly improved of late. I have never quite worked out the parking though.

Went for an evening drink, and it is the first time I have ever left a drink unfinished. As driver, I just wanted a Diet Coke, but got what tasted like coloured water. It was flat, had no fizz and had no taste and I wasn’t offered ice or lemon. Not cheap, ether. Also, watch out for strictly enforced car park regulations, and read the signs or it will cost you!

Like some unlucky others on here I received a parking notice after the effect for using their 'managed' car park after popping in for a drink at lunchtime. An email to the pub for leniency received not even a confirmation of receipt. Over zealous attendants and rude admin at the pub. Won't darken their doorstep with my business ever again.

A very average pub in terms of atmosphere, basic service and sub-standard food. But the worst thing about this pub is that it uses the services of NPM Parking Management to operate a very unfair parking fine system in its car park! Be careful parking there (even when the pub is closed) if you are not planning on spending ALL the time you are parked, in the pub. The NPM employees 'lie in wait' for unsuspecting prey - that is, they have the opportunity to warn you that you will get a parking fine of £100 unless you go directly into the pub - but instead wait for you to leave your car and then take the photographs - has put me off going to this pub or any similar pubs in Northampton again!

called here for an evening pint few weeks back, dirty weird place , but the main problem is the rip off parking . unclear signage , no mention of charges and now where to pay !! we both got £100 tickets from some mob called national parking management which is a local co with no relation to the eBPA

This place is disgusting it looks like they haven't had a clean in the whole pub since it was built maintenance levels are non existence vomit in front of the bar vomit outside glass and cigarette butts everywhere ladies toilets haven't had a seat on since ages just don't go there

Me and my friends use this bar all the time now has it has a lovely friendly manageress and great bar staff ! The groups who play on sundays have been excellent and play the music me and my friends all like ! Great atmosphere and very friendly people ! Pls visit and you mite even see me in there !!

First time we've been in for a long while. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the Strawberry and Rhubarb Somerby's Cider was quite morish. Only down fall was the toilets ( no toilet roll and poor lighting).

This pub has been refurbished and looks great. It is somewhere you could take family and friends.

Music far too loud, you literally couldn't hear the person next to you. Not sure if the "disco" (not sure how else to describe the one man DJ disaster) is just on a Friday night or its like that all the time. Awful atmosphere from the locals. Definitely would not go in this pub again.

Sadly this is no longer a Restaurant but is now a lively Pub with function rooms available. Live music in the gardens (when sunny) and in the bar. Led by a very friendly Landlady and friendly staff.

Had a great afternoon and evening with some of the family

When we arrived we were greeted by a smiley friendly member of staff who showed us to a table , the decor was very tastefully done. We gave our drinks order and perused the menu, gave our orders and asked for wine list.when we ordered a bottle of white wine we were asked if we wanted an ice bucket, which was a nice touch. We were then told that there wasn't any scampi as they had run out, a good 10 minutes after we had ordered. The food was usual pub grub but very large portions. The gammon steak was very tough and when we told the waitress she apologized and said she would give discount on the bill. There was only one more table occupied and when we left at 21.30 the door was locked after us. I think I will give it a return visit.

We phoned ahead and they offered to keep the carvery open for us as it was late in the day. We felt welcome and the service we received was brilliant. The food was good too and there was plenty of it!!! A,axing value for money - we will definitely be back - thank you

Visiting friends in Northampton we stopped for lunch at the 5 Bells. We were greeted as if we were regulars and enjoyed a brilliant carvery with the best yorkshire puddings we have ever had and so much well cooked and full of flavour roast beef. When we came to pay we were told as we were over 60 we had our meals reduced. The total bill including 2 drinks was less than £15 Wow how do they do it. Brilliant would recommend to anyone and would have been more than happy to have had to pay full price it was so good.

We decided to try the Old Five Bells instead of our usual eating house and was surprised at how good the food was. There was a very good menu with extremely reasonable prices and the food certainly didn't disappoint. It was hot and served on lovely warm plates and was delicious. The waitresses couldn't do enough for us and with my husband being partially sighted and with walking difficulties, they led us to table by the window which gave him some light. The staff were caring, polite, friendly and professional. The only negative point I would make is the fact that it is very dark in the bar and could probably do with some extra lighting, especially for anyone that cannot see too good. Having said that, we will definitely be going back.

We came her as a group of 5 for mothers day and I can honestly say I'm surprised at the negative review on here for the same day!! We were met by a very smiley member of staff and seated by our waitress immediately on a lovely round table in a raised area, Our drinks orders were taken and when they were given to us we were told we could go up for our carvery, we could not fault anything about it, the meat was moist and all the veg steaming hot we loved that the chef joked with our young daughter. We were asked if we could choose our desserts whilst eating our mains I'm guessing this was due to the volume of customers that were there.

Would go with my partner fortnightly , 4 of us went for Mother's Day , prebooked a table with a £20 deposit , got there expecting something like a vase of flowers or chocolates for Mother's Day since the meal cost more than it usually would on a Sunday , ended up with the customers previous left over glasses and desert bowls .. Waited for it to be cleared .. Food has gone down hill . Barely warm and left feeling a tad embarrassed for our guests who hadn't been before , also felt like I was in school given a sheet of paper to "tick" our desserts

Pub was refurbished and taken over, so always nice to see what's happening. It advertieses as a car very which is fine. However carvary had finished, so we had choice of the expected basic menu. Didn't like being told where to sit when it was empty. Was confused as I could hear social activity but couldn't see it. Service was slow. Dining area looks like a front room, nothing really happening. I wanted to be where the noise was which is outside-through a different door. Confused. No urge to return.

Excellent food worth the money and affordable

What a difference to when I last visited back end of 2016. I was swiftly greeted at the door by a very pleasant member of staff, who immediately took me to a table even tho I hadn't booked. I ordered drinks and they were soon brought to the table, together with a ticket to queue for food. Within a few minutes I was in the queue for the carvery and sitting back down to eat. The meat was succulent and, again, a large selection of vegs to choose from. The mashed potato and gravy were particularly good and it was pleasing to see a pot of pork crackling strips, as a little extra to the meal. First time I've ever seen this in a restaurant but very welcome indeed! All in all it was a very enjoyable lunch. I won't leave it so long this time before I pay this venue another visit.

We were in the shopping area and decided to give the five bells a go.

Last time I went here was years ago and it was pretty tired. Now the new decoration is very nice, for the price the food surpassed our expectations and the staff were really friendly. Good luck to the team there I hope that they are successful following the relaunch as the Five Bells.

Service was nice and decor is beautiful, however the food wasn't great, steak not sealed off at the sides, tougher than John cener, took a bite out of one of the potato wedges, (that were described on the menue as chips) and ended up flossing my teeth with what looked like the string core of a sweet potato (weren't sweet potatoes), mushrooms with my meal that I specifically asked NOT to have, and extremely dried Herby fried tomatoes, meanwhile the waitress handed my 2yr old son a Moulton lava hot plate (she was holding with a tea towel) and said be careful darling it's very hot. (We requested a new plate) For my two year old we ordered pizza chips and peas, he didn't seem too impressed with what looked like Iceland's mini bitesized pizzas either, he didn't try them, but I ate 2 and they tasted familiar. It was then we began to realise the answer to our question on why we were the only customers in the building the whole visit... Really disappointed as the carvery was lovely when we went before.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here with plenty of choice, excellent customer service and tasty food. The yorkshires were massive and great selection of meat. Thank you

Lovely friendly staff. Great service. Asked if we had parked in the car park you just need to give your registration over to park in there so could not have been more informative. I see people have complained on here about the lack of knowledge in the parking and incurred fines.....There could not have been more signage or more information about it!!

Came here for family friends birthday Friday lunch time. The lady didn't give us a chance to get in and have a look at menu before wanting us to order. Wanted to order a chicken burger but they had run out of chicken. When food arrived it looked ok but tasted cheap and disgusting, especially the beef burgers. We could only eat the chips. Complained to lady who served us, she didn't even have the manners to apologize. The lady who cooked the food said sorry but there was no offer of a refund or discount. I can't believe I paid £7.50 for a 20p burger which we couldn't eat!!! What a idiot. I think it is poor customer service, anywhere else would of said I'm sorry you didn't like it we will give refund or compliments. No wonder why there was hardly anyone in there. We was looking forward to going there but will definitely not return and will recommend to everyone we know not to go there. TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Parked in the pub car park and saw no signs to say I had to pay, didn't cross my mind I would have to pay to park in a pub car park?

My partner and I visited The Old Five Bells today, Monday, for a carvery. We were very impressed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beef was tender and tasty, the vegetables not overcooked which is often the case at carveries, roast potatoes we're fine and the yorkshires very good. Unfortunatey the gravy didn't have any taste and wasn't quite hot enough. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Shall visit again.
