Rowell Charter Inn in Kettering

Ignore some of the previous reviews. The pub has been taken over and refurbished. It's kept the old character but now clean and tidy with hard flooring with the original lovely, old brickwork on show still. Excellent choice of beers. Simon the landlord and his team are a very friendly, welcoming bunch. Plus dogs allowed now too. Definitely mine and my partners favourite local pub now!

Visited this pub on a off chance. It was very clean and tidy. The tables were clean and did not see an empty glass. Staff was very friendly, and the real ale is top-notch, a lovely tasting cold pint. The glasses were like new clearly they know how to run a pub to the highest standard. I really would give this public house a ten out of ten. Staff have a smile. The toilets were clean and did not have an unpleasant smell, unlike most public houses about in the gentleman's toilet facilities. Prices are reasonable, and they accept cash or card at the bar. I have a very high sensitive reaction to perfumes and found this to be a safe zone for me. Clearly they take cleaning very seriously here.

Absolutely love this pub and wish it was a little nearer home. It's full of character, cosy nooks and corners, warm and welcoming. Great ales, and competent and friendly landlord and landlady. I hope it never changes

Nice to see a busy pub. Outside seating, nice seating and atmosphere inside. Does not do food but has a good range of beers. Locals were really nice.

Every American in New England dreams of an old pub experience. I didn't feel welcome here. Service is slow. And to be honest we have a chain of pubs in the US that give a better experience in food and drink. I was disappointed. Live and learn. Love my home Bay State. The experience in Rothwell left me wishing for home: attentive servers, good food, and a happy crowd. I'm so disappointed.

Had to have our beer changed. It had gone off. Landlord was very obliging.

Would love to see them stock Abbot ale. Think pub would benefit from smaller car park and more of a garden. Lots of history in the place. From the 1200s if I'm correct. Nice place

This is the pub of choice in Rothwell. It usually has 7 real ales on tap and a traditional, comfortable environment. I just wish it did food!

Fairly decent beer selection, not very welcoming landlady, some locals friendly and others loud and rude. Ridiculous rules on where dogs are allowed as the whole premises isn't particularly clean so why does it matter. I have visited many traditional pubs over the years and this falls into a sub standard.

Loved it, made me feel like a strong independent black woman.

It's definitely in my top 5 pubs of all time. It's fairly diverse, they welcome the young and the old. They put on live music once a week and there is a very small car park. They have a decent sized beer garden which I'm never out of in the summer months. They have a fantastic selection of ales, larger and wine. Not your usual mainstream brands so it's nice to to try something new or just different to what other pubs have. However you do pay a little more but I think it's worth paying that extra for one of the best places in the area for a good old socialise. I almost forgot to mention that it's a very old historic place.

Stopped for a quick drink after buying a Christmas tree from Welford. We were greeted buy the landlady who could not bring herself to say hello or be welcoming or smoke. It was if every drink she had to get was an inconvenience. Within 5 minutes she told our 3 kids off for going to look at the Christmas decorations. They were curious but did not mess with them. The kids wanted a second drink so at 9 years old I am happy to give them a pound or so to get a squash. We witnessed the landlord send them away from the bar and refused to serve them. Fairly angry with this I questioned the Landlord about his behaviour towards his guests but he was just rude with no apology. I let him know the pub is very unfriendly towards families and we shall never go back. Avoid at all cost.

Traditional shaped pub with several smaller rooms knocked through. Ok for drinks and a chat, friendly staff and a band on the night we visited. Outside seating for the Summer. Adequate parking outside, but exit onto A6 a bit dicey if you are heading right towards Kettering as you have a blind corner to the left.

Decent local. Popular when live music on.

Good well kept real ale. Nice atmosphere mostly middle age people or older so no music noise to stop you having a conversation. We had a lovely evening

Quiz is fantastic! Fast paced and entertaining, well presented. Good selection of drinks. Loads of atmosphere, especially at festive times like Halloween and Christmas. Historically significant. Support a local business.

This pub ticks a lot of boxes for me; a very good selection of real ales, roaring open fire, old charm and history to the place (it's mentioned in the doomsday book), they sell pork scratchings and you can take the dog. Brilliant!

Its a real pub . No food just beer .

This so called family pub is nothing but disgusting , the beer smells like egg, the glasses are filthy . In the corner of one of the rooms it looks like a rat or some kind of animal has been chewing it . It has the potential to be really nice but the staff let it down big time . Phill and dee are pure rude. Phill doesn't even greet people he literally points at them to say what they want. They never smile. I know a lot of people who refuse to go there because of the miserable landlords , however they only add onto the many problems. The toilets absolutely stink , there is dust everywhere , it just needs redoing a lot needs replacing , including the staff. They have a darts board but no darts . Someone really should tell the owners how down hill this pub has gone .

Olde Worlde pub with good ales.

A charming and friendly pub in the market town of Rothwell. Inside period features shows the true character of the place. A warm welcome from Phil and See awaits as you walk through the door. A car park with ample parking to the rear and a superb beer garden. Plenty of events during the week too. Most importantly on a Wednesday Northamptonshires finest Annie Rexic hosts her hilarious and outrageous music quiz. From 9-11PM Definitely worth a visit

A nice friendly pub good beers shame it is looking tired could do with a slight revamp

Met with husband and daughter after school/work. Happy with service. But children ( daughter 12) had to leave by 6. Ok. But dogs are allowed beyond. Perhaps if I put daughter on lead and got her to stand on all fours we could stay longer. Lovely staff but rules stink. Daughter quiet and dogs barking. Mmm who drinks for profit

I just pooped into this pub for a quick pint whilst looking around Rothwell on my first ever visit. The young girl who served me was very friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful old building with lots of character, as are the punters. Looking around this big winding pub, I found a Bar Billiards table. I haven't seen one of these for 30+ years, with the last one being in Lewisham (South London). I sadly didn't get a chance to play as I was on my own.

Lots of history, very friendly staff and locals. They have good bands and singers on here and a real good variety of drinks.

Great local pub. Always make a huge effort for Halloween and xmas, decorations are fantastic! Allow dogs in the top section too.

Had been for a meal in ROTHWELL and then popped in afterwards for a drink, 6 of us. Lady behind the bar was really nice & friendly and had a joke about glass/bottle of wine. Still a very olde worlde pub, made a nice change.

We called in here for pre dinner drinks, not been in for a while but always get a good selection of real ale. Warm friendly atmosphere makes you very comfortable and we'd have happily stayed much longer if we could have.

Lovely building, horrid staff who made us feel like we were interrupting their private conversation with friends, and when we were eventually served she was rude, curt & slow, beer was extremely over priced, looking at the menu we would have needed a bank loan for a decent meal, we really can not find a good word to say about this place we are not surprised that there were only 4 other customers of a Saturday. will never go again.

beautiful pub, however the drinks are double the price expected. Staff immature and not at all trained, sociable or even interested in the customer. After being so overcharged for the drinks we did not bother investigating the menu, moving on to another town instead.
