We typically stop at Sylvie’s for a couple of bacon & egg baps (good old British “brunch”) and the food is always perfect. My wife likes her eggs with a hard yolk, but here 5hey are always JUST hard. In fact not far from perfect. Service is also always friendly. Hard to beat

The attempt and excellent service is evident, politeness, attention, friendlies, yes that was fine. I can only glean that on the day the chef and bartender, were struggling with a new computer system and aftermath of an inept temporary chef leaving the stocks low. The soup: the soup was delicious. We had to assume there was only a scraping left to serve as the portion, served in A finger bowl wouldn't have filled a mug. My Wife had to get pasty from Gregg's after just to feel like she'd actually had lunch. My All day breakfast, even with vegan sausages as there were no proper ones left, was delicious, the scrambled eggs were perfect but served without bacon. Just forgotten about completely. We weren't asked how our meal was, Probably embarrassment. My pint of cherry porter was gorgeous and my wife's cordial and soda was mixed properly a rarity in this day and age so a mixed bag of emotion. So why didn't we announce our qualms? Only one member of staff on, she was busy with other punters. And we needed to move on. So only 4 stars today.

We have been regular visitors to Hargreaves prior to Covid, it's our favourite eatery in Buxton and always look forward to our visit. We visited yesterday and what a disappointment. What was once an " Edwardian " tea room , now looks more like a works canteen. My favourite colour is green, but the plain painted walls in a drab olive colour just doesn't work especially with no prints to break it up. Tableclothes seem to have disappeared and the lighting looks awful. Oh and they have fallen into the trap of PC "Unisex" loos. Having said all that, the food was very good and the staff/service efficient and friendly. Sorry, these, I know, are difficult times and it is all a matter of personal taste, just not to ours. I wish them well but we will now have to seek out pasture new.

A quick stop to this place for breakfast at our time in Derbyshire. Also brought toast and soup which we liked

We loved our lunch here, and the service was excellent! It was a big contrast with another place we tried earlier, where they halted service for 10 minutes in order to "catch up" - how ridiculous! We were made to feel welcome at Stars, despite it being busy, and couldn't fault our delicious food, at a good price too 😋. They're missing a trick by not having Buxton pudding on the menu though - surely we're not the only people who like to sample local specialities when visiting a place for the first time?

We went here for lunch on a very very rainy day. The lady kept walking away as I wanted to order and said “in a minute”. I ordered the steak pie with chips and mushy peas with gravy and for myself the lasagne with a portion of chips and two coffees. When we had finished we cleared our own table and put the tray and dirty pots in the tray cabinet. We noticed most people just walked away and left the dirty pots on the table. The food was o k nothing special. I paid by card and got a receipt. I noticed I had been charged 75 pence for a small jug of gravy. Staff need to be more welcoming, pleasant and clean the tables quicker. The ladies toilets were bad out of 3 two were out of order, my husband said the gents was the same. The whole store looks neglected and untidy.
