07/01/2019: Went to the Elm Tree with 2 friends - the first visit for us all. Situated in a nice village. Staff very friendly and helpful. Berkeley Arms

Wymondham, Melton
23/12/2018: Came here for lunch twice in December. What fantastic food Neil produces each time. Just the flavour is amazing. Beautiful pheasant the first time, then the most fantastic roast chicken the second. All the desserts are very carefully crafted and again the most brilliant flavour combinations. Thank you Louise too for the friendliest and most professional front of house team. We are so looking forward to joining you in your new venture at Hitchens Barn in Oakham in the new year.
20/12/2018: This pub is a gem. The food is fantastic. We had a brilliant lunch. Crab starter and cod main to die for! We've dined here regularly with friends who live in the village. Sadly the proprietors are moving on. Happily they will be opening a bistro in nearby Oakham which I'm sure will carry on the high standards.

Hay Barn Cafe

Caunton, Newark and Sherwood, <20£
14/12/2018: Lovely polite and helpful staff. Very tasty well cooked food arrived in a reasonably short time. The cakes and desserts available were numerous and all looked great the ones Dad and I had tasted very good. It is now on Dad's list of quality places to eat (= to a michelin star) we will be going again.

The Wheatsheaf

10/12/2018: We had been working hard, preparing the village hall for a wedding and we needed to stop off for a meal. My wife and daughter both had steak done to their liking and vegetables and I had the chilli off the specials board.
10/12/2018: Visited with friends and two children, waitresses were friendly and polite. Marv went the extra mile when one of the children requested jelly for dessert, she brought over two pots of jelly even though jelly was not on the menu - two happy children. Roast Beef was delicious, would highly recommend.

Black Horse

Cadeby, Carlton and Market Bosworth with Shackerstone, Hinckley and Bosworth, 30-45£
18/12/2018: Went for our annual Christmas family meal this year at the black horse and it will be our venue of choice next year too. Wonderful food and cosy atmosphere served by lovely staff.

Eyam Tea Rooms

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales, <20£
01/01/2019: Being one of the few places entrepreneurial enough to cater for the 'first walk of the New Year' crowd, it was very busy but the lady running front of house had it all under control, taking orders from customers in all the order of arrival, being clear about wait times and marshalling junior staff to clear & wipe.
18/11/2018: excellent all round, good food and friendly, first class service. Good value and ideally located in the village centre. Can recommend the Marble cake (no marbles in it)

The Bees' Knees

Tuxford and Trent, Bassetlaw
16/12/2018: We went for dinner with friends on Saturday night. We all had the Christmas menu and it was beautiful. Two of us had pate, one had soup and one had the goats cheese tart. All superb. For mains three of us had turkey with the trimmings and one had the baked cod with garlic prawns. Again all were amazing. For desserts we had gin and tonic cheesecake, yum! And chocolate mousse, which was dark and rich but not too sweet.
07/12/2018: A big car park to park our motorhome in, a brewery, lots of cask/craft ales, a gin library, dog friendly, fab food and lovely locals. Made very welcome by everyone, staff and locals alike. Fantastic prices for drinks and food. Will definitely come again.

Blacksmiths Clayworth

Thankgod the lovely chef decided to do it for us as a special favour and we were not disappointed. Everything was amazing with little extras , gorgeous mini soup with truffle and exquisite handmade chocolates .. perfect .. Thankyou blacksmiths it was all wonderful.

The Harrington Arms

Aston, South Derbyshire
14/12/2018: A group of us came for our Christmas party dinner, it was excellent. Food was really lovely and plenty of choice other than turkey. Staff were great too, would definitely recommend and will be returning.
06/12/2018: Had possibly the best Christmas meal I have ever had. The turkey was juicy and falling apart. In quite a large group it was so unusual to have nobody thinking that they wished they had somebody else's choice. Great choice

Ye Olde Nags Head

Hope Valley, High Peak
17/12/2018: Really nice pub interior with the real fires and a nice mix of old and a bit of new here and there, great selection of beers as well. We had never eaten here so the three of us had a meal on a Monday night which was very quiet indeed. Staff very friendly and helpful and soon corrected a missing extra on my burger, the thai curry was awesome and full of flavour and the burger very good too. Pity about the pizza as the base was burnt underneath some parts slightly some more so. So the chef must have had a bad day {even though it was not busy} I guess and the kind waitress felt embarrassed and could not apologise enough when collecting up. My wife had had enough of the pizza so this was no big issue.
16/12/2018: A real gem. Lots of nice pubs in the Castleton and Edale area but this one for me stands out. Open fire places with burning logs gives a lovely warm glow to the place. Exposed original wooden beams above with stone floor in places. As you walk in you realise its a truley beautiful picture perfect old pub! That being said it's clearly been well kept and maintained over the years.

Rose Cottage Cafe

Hope Valley, High Peak, <20£
03/12/2018: Been here lots of times always great quick friendly service , freshly prepared delicious food, beautifully presented. Immaculately clean and cosey surrounding ..even better at Christmas with the twinkling Christmas trees outside ..give a try you truley won't be disappointed 👍
02/12/2018: Called in with all the family had breakfast all round. Food was excellent hot & fresh, staff made us feel very welcome. Was very well priced also. Went back next day in the afternoon had tea and cake. The fruit cake was to die for was told it was made on the premises. Again was made to feel very welcome.

The Packhorse Inn

New Mills West, High Peak, 20-30£
11/12/2018: We called in on Saturday for a drink and booked a table for the same evening, right next to an open fire, the landlord is a true gent, i could sit at the bar and chat to him all evening, so friendly and nothing is too much. The food was excellent, huge pie full of filling, plenty on chips and mushy peas. Dessert was equally as good. Nothing fancy just proper food in a proper pub. We will be back!!
03/11/2018: We were welcomed from the moment we walked in and made to feel part of the family. Wonderful food and so much we struggled to manage dessert! And the rhubarb cider is to die for .......
