Magee Street Bakery in Northampton

Cool little bakery in the backs streets of Northampton. The homemade sour dough bread is delicious. Everything is homemade and they clearly work very hard to achieve this . We lack these kind of places in the uk so I urge you to support them .

Friends came over from Australia for a wedding and having been to Magee Street, when one of them used to live in UK, a return visit was a must. They ended up returning several times for brunch and breakfast before flying back to Australia because they couldn't get enough of the generous breakfast sandwiches. But Kris ate the St Giles cheese raclette and declared, "This has been the best bit of Northampton!"

Having heard so many good things about this place I just had to visit. It was really busy with much demand for tables and takeaway alike. Their breakfast toasties on homemade Sourdough are next level. We enjoyed our breakfast so much that we bought a loaf of sourdough and some scotch eggs to take home. Will be back soon

Lovely coffee and a good choice of snacks. I usually go for the bacon sandwich or sausage sandwich. Sourdough bread is particularly good. Freshly made, generous fillings. Highly recommended.

Wow we have lived in Northampton for over 30 years and not known about this place! The sour dough bread is Devine like no other truly artisan and their vegan cookies are to die for! I’m so pleased we have a really high quality bakery in out town! We are now going to become regular customers

Lovely little independent bakery and coffee shop, the staff are always helpful and friendly and the quality of the food and drink are second to none. Seating is limited, but the big shared table in the main space is a lovely place to sit and chat. Highly recommend the bacon and sriracha croissant and their sourdough bread.

I popped in for breakfast after a recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. The staff were lovely and even offered words of encouragement when I stood slack jawed looking at the menu. 🤔 The coffee was really good and the breakfast sandwich was amazing. That bread… I didn’t get a chance to takeout a stack of cakes and sausage rolls but they all looked incredible. I’m looking forward to my next visit. Thank you.

MrsC and I decided to finally try a coffee and cake at this tiny attractive independent bakery cafe on our return homewards. Was a tad concerned at the length of the queue when we arrived but that eased when we realised that it was simply the local park runners enjoying their reward coffees in the winter sunshine. The coffee was great; coconut flat white for MrsC and Oat latte for me. Way better than the chains with a good intensity to the roast and great depth; local roasters too MrsC missed the vegan cake in the first view so we went savoury with a vegan “sausage” roll each. Pastry was really flaky and had a nice kick of mustard twixt sausage and pastry giving it a nice bite without blowing your sinuses. She then espied the cake just before we finished the drinks so we saw out the visit with a slice of cake and two forks along with a sourdough loaf to go. It’s bijou inside but we managed to snare some seats by the big picture window despite the band of runners mingling around. Service was attentive, prompt and friendly to boot. We’ll be back, definitely, to enjoy the same and would warmly recommend others to do the same. It’s definitely off the beaten city track but well worth seeking out and great to see an independent so bustling busy. Pleased we stopped. Best coffee we’ve had in a long time

Food and drink was lovely, however attitude of owner and one of the staff members (not the nice lady making the coffee she was lovely) was terrible. We ordered coffee, tea, 2 breakfast sandwiches and some bread to take away. The server read our order back to us and had missed off one of the sandwiches so we added this back in all good. When our food came (quickly and cooked really nicely) the tea was missing. I asked the lady who had served us if we might get our tea soon. She said it would be on the way (but didn’t check). After another 10 mins I asked again and the owner marched up and said we hadn’t ordered one (which we had). When we left and I paid for the tea the owner was again quite rude and implied it was my fault by saying very loudly “that’s why we read our orders back to people to make sure they’re correct”. This is the second time she has been rather abrupt and rude on visits so won’t be returning.

Fourth chance given as food is so nice! But just can’t put up with miserable staff with glasses again. If you don’t like that part of the business then stay out the back! Needs a happy staff = happy customer training session

I have been a semi regular visitor of Magees over the last few years, often going with my partner for take away lunches and occasionally have taken family and friends for a quick coffee and baked good. Decided to go solo today and treat myself to a breakfast sandwich and coffee whilst getting a bit of work done. Immediately felt unwelcome and experienced some hostility from the older lady serving (I think the owner, surprisingly). Immediately was given the impression that I was taking up space and she was not happy I had gone alone. I felt self conscious the moment I sat down and made an effort to use my hotspot rather than ask for WiFi and did not require any charging points etc so did not feel it was warranted to be treated as though I was there for a free ride. Paid for my drink and meal and sat for approximately an hour...the entire time I felt uncomfortable and was asked to move seats twice. I would have been more than happy to move seats to accommodate as the seating in the cafe is very limited, however the manner in which the older lady asked was very rude. All other stuff are friendly and the food is fine. Such a shame that customers are made to feel this way, as has previously been commented on in other reviews. Would not recommend for a pleasant environment for a solo trip.

Been here a few times, I do find the woman with the glasses to be a little rude, nothing crazy but Jesus come on love, customers come first if you want to have them back again. Food is good quality but a bit pricey

We came here last night for a meal we was here a few weeks ago for lunch and both times the service and food was excellent would highly recommend it here

I have just moved in around the corner from here, after hearing brilliant things about it for a long time, me and my partner decided to give it a go on Saturday. WOW, I had a brie, pear and Chilli jam toastie which was packed out with fillings, I also got a halloumi "sausage roll" and honestly I'll be dashing back this weekend! I can imagine I'm going to be frequenting it often! They have specials that change every week or two, as well as doing a different Scotch egg and pies at the weekends, everything is homemade and wonderful.

I visited early one morning for a coffee and bacon sandwich I’ve heard good things so wanted to try for myself. Very clean well presented shop with helpful and knowledgeable staff. The food was tasty, freshly cooked and well presented! Well worth a visit 👌🏻

Went here for breakfast after seeing TripAdvisor reviews but indoor seating all closed off takeaway only. Coffee and food might be great, but you have sit on the street on a bench to eat it.

First time here. We had lunch and coffee. The food is excellent and the portions are big. We then bought cakes to go and they were delish.

Lovely little bakery, freshly baked bread and cakes, lovely hot drinks. Atmosphere and staff are superb. Never disappoints.

Friends have mentioned the bakery regularly and so i dropped in when passing to grab a quick lunch. A great selection of fresh and delicious products available and served by friendly staff. I'll definitely be back!

Came across their IG page, decided to go and have a look. Daily special pork belly sandwich was a delight accompanied with a very good cup of coffee. Service was friendly, professional! Highly recommended! Definitely will be back soon!

Met a friend for Lunch here. Very popular and not a great deal of seating so you have to be willing to share the space. Great food and quite a selection.Lovely staff. Easy to park close by.

Sought out this charming artisan bakery that is tucked away in terraced street. Lots of people obviously know it well as there was a stream of customers to eat in and take away the superb bread, cakes, rolls and tasty meals. The sausage rolls are very popular. Great staff.

This place is a breath of fresh air and well worth a visit. Normally have a take out as the place is so busy. I'm sure if it had 100 covers that every seat would be taken. The food, ambience and staff.....just brilliant

My Husband and I are new to the neighborhood and really looked forward to trying Maggie Street. We went in this Sunday and bought two loaves of bread and some treats for our party. Essentially, this is an espresso bar with a few bakery goods (so not an actual bakery). We walked in and were immediately pushed out of the way by an angry customer who thought we were taking her seat (this while we were literally looking at bread) and then glared at by the staff member who repeatedly pushed her way past us while we were trying purchase bread and while I waited to use the toilet. Frankly not a welcoming place. I left, went to the Old Grocery, had a lovely espresso, actually purchased some treats for my party and was greeted by friendly staff. Unfortunately, today's visit to Maggie's is my last.

Very good food but very little seating. Lovely baked goods and delicious breakfast. Appears to be quite upmarket and trendy. Wouldnt be out of place in Islington

I really enjoy visiting this quirky, retro, excellent and friendly coffee shop. Staff and owners are always so helpful and welcoming. Coffee is very good and food is really even better.

The food made here is fantastic, and although it’s a tight squeeze of a place it adds to the character. The staff are friendly and even the other customers are polite. The best place for the best people.

I was treated to a sausage and egg roll from here , I heard that this bakery was good and it certainly did not spoil that , everything including the bread was top notch will certainly go again.

I am here every single day without fail. The atmosphere is gorgeous & I love the fact the space is cosy, small & intimate without WiFi - it means you can sit down, relax & switch off from the outside world & also connect with others around you. The owners Jools & Carl are welcoming, friendly & highly experienced. It is dog friendly outside. The coffee is second to none & the food is to die for. Thank you for your constant exceptional service!

I had a latte and egg, avacado and bacon on sourdough toast, the milk was off, tasted absolutely foul, the owner was aware but gave no apology, a woman who works there smiled, apologised and made me a new latte. The breakfast was nice, although the bacon was cremated, the lady who owns this place comes across as though she is just interested in getting people seated and getting them out ASAP, which is maybe why they don't have WiFi, I hope this bakery is not run into the ground.

I have been coming to Magee Street cafe for a while as I ‘m a coffee fanatic. I have recently recommended the cafe to a number of friends for the fantastic coffee, freshly made sourdough, divine pastries and croissants and homemade delicious and inventive brioche sandwiches.

Really nice homemade cakes and bread, nice coffee&tea; and great breakfast!! It's a shame the place is not bigger because it's brilliant! Take away is always the option tho!

Wanted to try for ages! Came here for lunch on a Wednesday with a friend from Essex who was visiting. We had a lovely lunch in the small bakery. I had a red pepper and hummus pitta and my friend had a Italian ham and cheese toastier which she said was amazing! 4 things on the menu but everything sounded lovely! Sausage rolls and veggie rolls available as well as cakes. Very impressed. Only a few places to sit so on a busy day it may be difficult to get a seat. Definitely coming back for scotch egg Sunday’s! Highly recommend. Well done!

Visit Graham Street Bakery regularly and always great coffee and food. Good range of food, especially for breakfast - Amazing sausage and egg sandwich. Always excellent pastries! Service is always great!

Great little place I visited with my girlfriend, we had a sausage and egg sandwich on sourdough bread and a sausage roll. Great experience and professionally made heart food with plenty of flavour. We will no doubt return, but timing is always tricky as it is often very busy, but that shows it's worth the wait for those that haven't been. Support local business, they are doing a fine job and make excellent pastries, breads and lunches. I was also caught out mid bite as you will see by the picture.

This cafe is outstanding in its delivery of high quality pastry and cakes. They are all made on the premises and as well as the old favourites like chocolate brownies and banana cake with caramel sauce they have new creations regularly. Today my husband had his usual scotch egg which he said was divine.

I was up visiting the Crockett & Jones factory shop and had heard about the Magee St bakery. I ordered a takeaway tea and couldn’t resist to try their chocolate tart. It really stood out with a decorative honeycomb bar on top. Let me tell you it was almost worth the trip from London just to try that tart! Well done to all the staff!

We’d heard of Magee Street Bakery and all the positive comments but yesterday we experienced it.

Finally visited here last weekend after hearing many good reviews. Had Sunday brunch and Sunday menu more limited than in the week. Food was delicious, bread very light and fresh. Sausage roll also tasty. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely going to return to try out the famous Scotch Eggs.

Nice selection of tea's and coffees. Sandwiches are awesome! Definitely worth visitng. Did not try the cakes unfornately but they looked awesome!

And I’m not surprised why she brought me there. The breakfast sandwich is so yummy! Saw the menu and all dishes look really delicious. Friend and partner explained that the specials regularly change every three weeks or so. A big thumb up!

This cafe just continues to delight. All homemade cakes breads and pastries are amazingly good every time. The coffee is made by highly trained staff and is consistently excellent. The standard of food coffee and service is exemplary.

Very nice coffee though luke warm and not piping hot but my fault as I should have asked for 'extra hot' please. There again I shouldn't have to. I would go in here much more but it is too small to sit in private and relax.The cakes and bread are wonderful but as usual, those of us who don't eat cakes and sugar are penalised. It's a very local cafe and a bit risky to travel far to it as it is usually very busy. Must be lovely to own and run a place like this though!

Everything is home made and fresh. Coffee is wonderful, just wish the premises, although charming, were bigger as it gets crowded, it's a fantastic place and the bakers provide delicious stuff.

My friend and I came here for lunch as I am a regular visitor for Scotch eggs on a Sunday. I must say the vegan flatbread was astounding, and my friend said his pulled pork sandwich was the best pulled pork he'd ever had.

Limited seating, Limited Menu and Tiny store. Feels like a village bakery in Nee York. Extremely popular and great products. But pricey but worth it. We’ll be back because its the best Bakery in Northampton....by a mile!

Recently taken over Magee street artisan bakery and cafe continues to provide fantastic freshly made pastries, cakes, sourdough and brioche breads and sandwiches. The top quality remains, everything made on site.

I came here for lunch, but when I asked the staff what was gluten free, the only choice was a chocolate brownie. There was nothing savoury available to eat that didn’t contain gluten. With the amount of food intolerances that are around these days, and also the abundance of gluten free food produce out there, I was surprised that I could not be catered for better.

I absolutely love Magee Street Bakery- it's a great little café that is quite hidden away but has quite the following despite it's non-obvious location. I initially discovered it through my mum who popped in there after dropping me off at the Racecourse for Parkrun one Saturday, and I literally wanted to try everything they had on offer. Since then it has become a tradition to pop in there for a post-parkrun coffee and pastry whenever I am back in Northampton!

Magee St is a small artisan bakery that does a small range of amazing bread, gorgeous cakes and savoury things like sausage rolls and proper full on toasties and perfect coffee. Everything it does, it does well. I just wish it was bigger as it can get very cramped as it’s deservedly popular.

Congratulations to Elliot and Alfie on creating what I can only describe as the best bakery I have ever visited, the standard of food and customer service is second to none and I look forward to visiting it under the new owners when I’m sure it will be just as enjoyable.

I like coffee a lot, and of all the coffee shops i use this one has the best tasting coffee. Everything else is good in here too- but the coffee is exceptional.

I love everything about this bakery. The food is fresh and so tasty, the atmosphere is quirky and friendly and kind of makes you feel like you could be in a little hipster area of London. I've only just found out about this place but I will 110% be going back - so yummy!

When I visit cafes in other towns, they often disappoint. Magee street standards however are consistently outstanding. Everything is made by them from breads to cakes to croissants. How do they deliver such amazing tasty food and exceptional coffee every time ?

I have only just found out about this amazing little place. It is not big (it's pretty much the front 2 rooms of a small terraced house), but it is welcoming. The smell of good food & good coffee draws you in. Although they had run out of sandwiches by the time we got there, the toasted sandwiches were still available & they were good. The bread is such a departure to the usual prepackaged stuff you get in most places. Thick cut, with good quality bacon or Cumberland sausages with a fried egg. We also got coffee & a slice of carrot cake. The thing that I really like is that all their take-away packaging seems to be recyclable (except the coffee cups). I will definitely be going back to eat in & earlier next time!

Had the delicious double egg and cheese toastie.. great place to eat in or out. Lots of choices and worth a visit if you are in the area!
