We popped in to The Roebuck Inn for dinner prior to heading down to watch Forest lose in the League Cup. This seems a much higher class of Wetherspoons, which I am aware sounds like a contradiction in terms, due in no small part to the building (a beautiful 18th Century Grade II listed building) and the calibre of customer. This being Wetherspoons, they have still managed to locate the toilets 14 miles away from the main bar area, but there is also seating on the upper level (including outside area) nearer to the toilets. I had fish & chips here and, whilst it wasn't superb, it wasn't bad either. It was relatively nondescript, which is why I'm having such a hard time.writing about it. It was pretty much what I'd expect from a Wetherspoons. My Mum had a small pizza and she was happy enough with this. Of all the Wetherspoons across the country, this is a pretty decent example.

I bring my mom here every weds as this is the place she likes to come.. since her stroke it was hard finding somewhere she was comfy. I had never been here myself until a month ago but the attention to detail the landlady shows us second to none. Even making sure my mom gets her batter bits with her fish.. I can’t credit this place enough because it really does make my moms night whenever we’re here.. Thank you for making our nights so special Nikki is an absolute boss who goes above and beyond to make sure the night is just right xxx 11/10

When we arrived at the Druids inn we were told we had to book a table which meant a half an hour wait. As a family celebrating a special birthday we decided to wait as we thought it would be worth it…how wrong were we! Our food came out apart from one of the meals . I mentioned we were still waiting and the response was a very aggressive “I only have one pair of hands!” The missing meal was then taken to the wrong table and then eventually made it to our table. All common mistakes but the rudeness and quality of food was not what we expected for the wait we had and the cost if the meal. Fish and chips were incredibly greasy, hunters chicken cold and dry, chicken with the flat bread was 3 small chunks of chicken thigh and a pot of uncooked fries, loaded fries were essentially a bowl of sloppy sauce with a few fries! Just not good enough

Under new ownership Bennetts is transforming back to an even higher standard than it once was a few years ago. The new management have only been there 2 months and made such a difference already. Our 2 night stay was in a recently refurbished room. Sheets and towels were crisply clean. The ensuite wet room type shower is separate from the toilet. The bed was comfortable and we got undisturbed sleep. Our meal in the restaurant was well cooked and not the usual Anglo-Indian palette of flavours, possibly because the new proprietors are originally from Nepal and have run 2 restaurants before. Breakfast availability and some minor tweaks would make this 5 star. Car parking is off-street and free
