We booked a table based on local reputation. We were not disappointed! Good food and OK prices. Possible to order from the Sundays lunch or a la carte menu. My liver/mash/veg was great. Others had roast beef which came with a great selection of hot and tasty veg. Drinks Ok too … pint of Black Sheep was a reasonable £4.40. Bill for 4 mains and 2 puds plus drinks (including bottle of nice Sauvignon) was £134. Give it a go!

We popped in on the off chance today without a booking. We received a really warm welcome and the food was fantastic. We all enjoyed our mains - they were good portions and high quality. We had previously come from another pub who didn’t have a table available for us who were really rude so we really appreciated the kind and warm service! Thank you so much! Highly recommend.

We both had the lamb cutlets for our main meal. Absolutely amazing!! Perfectly cooked, generous portion sizes and the best garlic mash. Served with green veg and a side of roast seasonal veg. Would definitely recommend trying it! Followed by sticky toffee pud with rum and raisin ice cream and honeycomb. Wow!! Again generous portion size and absolutely delicious. Welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. We’ll be regular customers and we’re so impressed.

I booked a table for our family to celebrate my birthday. I had had the place recommended to me by two friends and had wanted to eat there for a while. My daughter is vegan, so when I called to book I told the person who took my call. She responded that there were a couple of vegan options on the menu, so it wasn’t a problem. When we arrived and looked at the menu, there were no vegan starters at all. The rest of the party had starters. There were 2 main courses on the main menu, but none on the Sunday lunch menu. My daughter chose the pea risotto, which she said tasted very good. She didn’t fancy a curry for Sunday lunch. She asked for a side salad, which came with coleslaw on it, so she didn’t eat any of it. Coleslaw contains egg so a vegan will not eat it! This all speaks to me of a lack of attention to detail when informed in advance of someone coming to eat who is vegan. The staff were lovely and friendly and did their best to answer our questions, mainly me trying to find something my daughter could eat, or at least have a choice. Our meals were good, but the occasion was marred for me by the difficulties with my daughter’s meal. We will return in future, but not as a whole family sadly.

The veggie option was limited compared to the meat eaters option . The price of the food was extortionate for a very small amount of food . I received a child size portion for an adult price . I would never eat there again . My son’s fish was swimming on an oily piece of paper that hadn’t been drained and my husbands burger was soggy also wet from the salad , ok the salad needs washing but it shouldn’t be on the plate wet . My food wasn’t piping hot which it should have been for the length of time we waited . A poor example of an expensive disappointing ‘treat “ meal out that we never do . This has certainly put me off eating out I might as well stay home in future and cook a big Sunday lunch that we all feel satisfied eating afterwards instead of nipping to the supermarket afterward for a couple of pasties . By the way I don’t have a huge appetite but the portion sizes should fit an adult appetite not a toddler appetite . So disappointing and a definite no in future . The bill made my eyes water 😵‍💫

Had Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday. Impressed that they had their regular menu as well as a special one. As it was a birthday celebration we went all out and had a load of booze and food and it came to less than £100. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and a taste sensation. The staff were attentive (without being over the top) friendly and efficient. We were allowed to sit for a while before choosing a dessert (which I much prefer) even though they were very busy. There was a good atmosphere and the decor was warm and cosy. This is such a great pub - a little gem.

Earlier in the year I visited the Elm Tree and had a disappointing lunch BUT, I somehow got the feeling that I needed to give it another chance. The staff at the Elm Tree are very pleasant, friendly and most attentive. My second visit was, as I had hoped, much better. The food was good and I felt that my decision to return was vindicated. What I like is that the Elm Tree is a pub that serves a good selection of food without being pretentious. It's not a gastropub or a restaurant but isn't trying to be either.

Well first if all let me say that the Beef Wellington was amazing. Good job we didn't have a starter as the portions were excellent. And there the story ends. They don't do cocktails and don't stock the basics to construct your own. Now that is missed revenue. A shame really. The desert menu, although quite good only had ice cream with each, no sauces. But the final act was a coffee. Instead of desert we opted for a floating coffee...very 1970 s...my friend had a Tia Maria, and I a brandy. Now neither of us could taste any alcohol and the coffee was the worst I've tasted. Bitter and burnt tasting.. .. Back to the main course. Outstanding. Sorry about the rest. Won't be back.

The pub was really busy on the Sunday and had booked a table thanks to the reviews on here and to catch up with friends. We all has starters and although small, the salmon fish cakes were tasty. I had the roast pheasant which was a little on the dry side but the veg accompaniments were outstanding. The puddings were also extremely tasty and very well received! Unfortunately we were asked to vacate the table for the next customers. If we had been told in advance that we would have a specific time it would have been ok but we were kind of taken a back and it did spoil the afternoon hence the 3 star review.

My husband, our two dogs and I booked for lunch. It was pretty busy, we asked for table in the corner, which was not a problem. We ordered a couple of shandy’s, and browsed the menu. Good choice and variety including vegan options. We decided on a steak pie and a chicken pie, which came with chips and mushy peas, gravy. We had a fair wait, not too long, as the food is cooked to order, it arrived and everything was piping hot, good sized pies and portion of proper chunky chips. My chicken pie was nice, I wished I’d had the steak, it looked delicious with large pieces of chunky steak. The portion was good, not huge but good, we struggled to finish it tho, our dogs were the beneficiaries of a few nibbles. Staff were really pleasant, good loo’s and a nice feel about the place. We had just returned from a family holiday and as my husband is working away for 3 months over Christmas, we had decided to have a family meal as his "Christmas Day" with his family. I had raved about The Elm Tree as it is very local to us and we had walked there a lot in the Summer. We had pre ordered from the Christmas Dinner menu. All orders were correct which is fine. Starters fine. I was asked how I wanted my duck to be cooked (always pink for me) yet when it arrived it was very over cooked, bone dry. I tried to get staff attention but it was very busy, full, and decided just to eat it. It came with a hepa of cabbage which was nice. My husband had steak and that was cooked fine but we were surprised it just came with a mushroom none of the lovely chips they usually serve. Our table was then filled with sprouts, over cooked toasties and gravy which a lot of that was wasted as the only meal that went with was the one turkey dinner. My dessert was cheesecake but I couldn't taste any white chocolate as stated. The Brownie was more like a cake, not a Brownie. Other desserts fine. Drinks all fine and staff lovely albeit very busy. I don't know if this was an off night or a different chef I'm not sure but with new restaurants due to open in Clowne soon I think we will eat at different places on the future :( Elm Tree will always be our choice for evening summer drinks but I can no longer recommend the food as before.

Another enjoyable visit to the Elm Tree for Sunday lunch with friends. We all had prawn cocktail starters, beef roasts followed by assorted sweets.

Such a cosy countryside pub. Friendly staff, great food with good veggie options. Located in a very scenic and peaceful place. I'm planning on returning Autumn/Winter time for that ultra cosy feeling, drinking a nice glass of red with some hearty food.

We called last year with a party of people and we have just been back. The food is still excellent and the staff very professional. If 37 people eat and everyone said they enjoyed it, it must be good. Thanks.

Everything is fresh and tasty. The waiting and bar staff are all lovely and professional. The wine was lovely. Great value. Thanks and see you again soon.

We really enjoyed our food and the server was very friendly. However we couldn't believe it when we saw we'd been charged £3.10 for lemonade with a dash of lime!! The lime was apparently about 60p extra, ridiculous.

Had two courses each, 4 people. Personally had prawn cocktail, usually served with a little bread, just got prawns with lettuce wrapped in cucumber, with about a tablespoon of seafood sauce and slice lemon, £6, extortionate! Then ordered sea bass with rice and peas, got one fillet with a slab of congealed rice, £17, again extortionate! My husband had undercooked battered cod, inedible, although his chips were nice! Our friend ordered a steak, and was mostly fat. Then, after we had paid, a waitress came back and told us we had underpaid by £20, even though the cash had been checked by 2 of our party and we had included a tip! Couldn’t prove it, so had to pay again!! On the upside, the waitresses were friendly and the restaurant is pleasant, shame the chef and their maths lets them down. Shan’t be visiting again and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

On Saturday afternoon (18/8) our family and friends celebrated my 60th birthday and our recent wedding. We had all three rooms upstairs and a buffet lunch. Everything was absolutely beautiful, the food, wine and company. As always we were looked after wonderfully by the front of house team led by Sue and thanks to Marianne for looking after us. All the team were attentive and so accommodating. Thanks to Chris and his team for such delicious food including a stunning dressed salmon which took John 3 hours to prepare, such skill you don’t find elsewhere. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and said the salmon was the best they’d tasted. We had a wonderful afternoon on this very special occasion. Chris H-S

We mostly enjoyed the food, a mixed grill and a rack of lamb, and because it was all freshly prepared it took some time to cook, but it was worth it. The dining chairs we sat on were hard and uncomfortable after being sat on them for over an hour, and so the wait for the food was a slight issue. Before receiving our food, we were served with someone else's food order on two occasions. There were another couple of strange and unexpected actions by staff, which were less than professional.

Had an amazing evening with family celebrating my husband's 60th. The Elmtree was full but the service was still excellent and everyone in our party of 10 commented on how nice the food was. Christy was our fabulous waitress for the evening and she couldn't have been more attentive. Overall a fantastic and memorable occasion. But that is why I booked here as we have never been disappointed!

This gorgeous village pub/restaurant is an absolute gem! Small, traditional, oldie worldie feel, extensive outdoor seating, for lovely days, also marquee in grounds for special events and 3 private dining rooms upstairs, which make any family or friends gathering for any occasion really private, personal and special.

We have had lunch and evening meals at the Elm Tree many times always very good. Our daughter and her part er have just had their wedding there with tipi in the garden and everything from the first day of planning to the actual wedding day was perfect. Chris Jean and all their staff went above and beyond to make Leanne and Richards day so special. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them.there were 80 people in the afternoon and many more in the evening and food was delicious at both servings. Everyone loved the setting the food and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Thanks everybody for an amazing day.

Came to Bolsover for the day on my wife's birthday to have a pub lunch and to visit the castle. Having read the positive reviews we went straight to the Blue Bell. Walking into the beer garden at about 11.50 we saw that the view on a good day would be spectacular. Unfortunately the weather was bad so in order to eat inside we went to the door marked ‘Entrance’ which was locked. I checked on line and saw the opening time was 12 am (??)  so we waited. A few minutes after 12 the back door opened and we entered only to be told there was no food (no reason given). Although there was a sign at the bar, a notice outside would have saved time being wasted. Fortunately there are other places to eat so we went elsewhere.

Really a let down. Wasn’t worth coming. Had a meal in the cafe and feel robbed. Wasn’t worth the price paid. £21 for two mini breakfasts, charged extra for toast and a pot of tea. Not to mention by the time you have got through there stupid ordering and queuing system to pay it’s cold! I really won’t be returning here!
