Long queues at both food and payment lines. Ran out of milk jugs, ran out of saucers, more dirty and pot stacked tables than there were clean ones. Don't bother collecting your food and drink together, as one or the other will be cold by the time you pay. Should do a lot better. 2 stars, as the food (jacket potatoes, paninis ) are good.

We went to Dobbies again today and I have to say after many visits over several months & years that will be the last. The cafe is an absolute nightmare, I have never known anywhere so poor for service. We had to clear & wipe the table ourselves, then we queued for 45 minutes to get 4 meals & drinks! My mum went in the hot food queue and I queued for 2 jacket potatoes. We then had to queue even longer for 2 hot drinks. There is one member of staff serving on each section and it is so slow that our food was cold by the time we got to the table. The manager was serving on the till and I told him how poor it was, his reply was ok!!! It is expensive food, nothing spectacular and diabolical service. Don’t bother. I think this branch may be next on the list to close, I wouldn’t be surprised. Very poor.

Hi, When I last visited Dobbies at Barlborough, I vowed never again! This time I mean it - what an awful place - impossible to get a drink* without endless queuing. Alternative 'food hall' cafe closed for no reason and naturally, no sign to say it was closed... too difficult. Waitrose staffed by 'non-typical Waitrose' staff shouting/conversing to other staff members. Loud music blaring out. What happened to standards? the last time my coffee went cold standing in the queue -so I ordered another 1 & sat down without paying. No one challenged me. I don't think they dare - but the systems they have in place are abysmal Rant over - I'm no snob but never again.

Have enjoyed past visits to the cafe here but can’t say the same about my most recent visit here. We waited 30 mins upon entering the cafe to actually sitting down and eating. The hot food service area really needs a change in the way it works as it clearly isn’t working at the moment. Stood in the same place for over 20 mins to then be told to move to another area to wait for a further 10 mins before actually being served? Then to be told the thing I wanted wasn’t available? Just terrible.

The food and coffee here are fine ... once you get them. It seems that the service points are very understaffed and the waits for both food and drink are far too long. Due, I guess to being overworked, the staff (apart from the young man on the till who was also doing his best to clear tables) didn't seem at all happy. I'd say, only come if time isn't an issue.

Had the fish finger baguette. Fish fingers were cold and soggy like they had been left in a warmer for half a day. Side salad was lettuce and cucumber which had seen better days. Cost £8.75 and was worth £3.00 if that. The tea was decent enough and as it was after 2pm people were coming in as the scones become 2 for 1 after 2pm - so that's worth a note, although I didn't have one. Wouldn't really recommend the food, there are better places to eat nearby. Even the cakes are expensive (£4+ per slice!) The café was pretty dirty too. Floor covered with food and tables needing clearing and cleaning. Counted 6 staff and none of them particularly pleasant considering they work in "hospitality".

Always enjoyed visit to Dobbies but having not been for a while we were shocked to see how tired and run down it's become. Alot of areas stood empty with no products, plants etc. Visited cafe for breakfast. The staff were kind and friendly but clearly struggling from being short staffed. We had 2 breakfast cobs and 2 coffees. The fried egg was hard and dry. By the time we got our coffee (served in paper cups because no proper cups today for some reason) then paid, the food was pretty cold. The napkins were also a huge blue roll. It's was only 9.30am but the tables, chairs and floor looked like they hadn't been cleaned down from service yesterday. The large leather bench seat was worn and wet so we had to move. Outside had stirrers, sugar wrappers and shredded tissue all over the floor, under tables. Overall the visit was extremely disappointing and not what we've experienced before from the Dobbies brand. It needs a serious refurbishment and some investment. We won't be returning in a hurry.

Disappointing. Called around 3pm on a Tuesday. There was still a steady flow of customers but only one lady on serving. She was rushed off her feet, poor lass, but still managed to be polite - and that's what has earned you the 3 Jimstars. Lots of dirty tables. Floor dirty. And, although I can't really blame Dobbies for it, there looked like a used nappy under one table that was outside. Tables outside weren't cleared and needed wiping. A second lady did come out later and was working really hard to get cleared up. Did you have a staff shortage that day - or is it a permanent lack of enough staff? So, long wait to get served ( NOT the servers fault!); had to go in search of forks; dirty floors and tables; £3.99 for a small slice of dry coffee and walnut cake (even left some 😕) and those dreadful teapots that pour more over your table and legs than goes in your cup! And who's idea is it to hide the refrigerated scones etc in a cabinet behind the till!! Never saw those until after we'd paid! All in all not a good visit. But it is large and there were plenty of seats both inside and out.

Really disappointed with Dobbies. Went with my 11 month old for some breakfast and soft play. The breakfast was very lackluster, the "mini breakfast" for me had chewy meat and the teacake for my child was not edible. I think they may have chucked it in an air fryer! The soft play however is downright dangerous. There is an area for 0-2 year olds, like most soft play. However there were no staff members ensuring older children didn't use that space. We had kids who were between 7-9 years old trying to jump all over, parents paying no attention and nearly crashing into the 11 month old who was just with me in a corner while older kids crashed around. There absolutely has to be staff there to warn parents to stop older children playing in the "baby" area. It's not safe and had I not been blocking them, they'd have fallen on my child many times. We had to leave after 5 minutes of being in, and 5 extra minutes waiting to see if staff would move the older kids to the age appropriate area. They did not. All in all, absolutely awful trip and will definitely not be returning.

I must have been a good 10 minutes waiting for two cups of tea. The lad working on his own was rushed off his feet and did apologise for the wait which I didn't blame him for. The tables looked like they hadn't had a wipe down for a while and other tables still had trays of crockery and leftover food left on. My Grandaughter wanted the toilet, I took her and they were disgusting, toilet roll all over the floor, smelly and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for a while. We went to washed our hands and it was a good job I tested the water first because it was red hot and my Grandaughter would have burnt her little hands. I really do think that the café manager needs to be informed of all these poor reviews. So many times the reply has been that the comments will be passed onto the manager. Even over the last three months looking back at reviews nothing has changed. Today, bank holiday Monday, there was one barista on the cake section. Another member of staff was busy trying to restock or find crockery which hadn’t been washed as the dishwasher had broken. People had to have tea in takeaway cups as there were no washed teapots In the lower section of the Restaurant we counted at least 16 tables with dirty pots on at 2:30 pm. and not many cleaned tables. There was also a full rack of dirty pots waiting to be cleared away. We joined the queue at 2:20 pm. There were around 20 people in the queue waiting to place an order. It took us 30 minutes to get to the barista who served us two coffees. The barista was pleasant and coped well under the pressure but it all could’ve been avoided if there were more staff to help her. It being bank holiday there should have been more staff around. About half an hour before closing staff did come in wearing high viz jackets. I presume they had been drafted in from other areas to clear up before closing as restaurant staff don’t normally wear high viz. Please can management look at what is going wrong here as so many cafe visitors were commenting on how abysmal the service was and it can so easily be rectified.

Came here Friday lunchtime - with my mum for the first time - who was visiting from London. It wasnt particularly busy (it can be heaving at weekends and if there’s a coach trip here) but the staff were overwhelmed and couldn’t cope with demand (particularly for sandwiches on a hot day). I wanted to jump behind the counter and make my own it was taking so long. £20 for a distinctly average quiche and salad and a plain cheese sandwich. I didn’t get the salad in the sandwich I asked for, but because of all the people waiting behind me in the queue I didn’t want to make a fuss. They’d also run out of the green side salad I wanted and it was only 12:30. I had left my mum outside with the dog for so long and my quiche and chips were getting cold I couldn’t bear to join yet another queue for the hot drinks so we just had the bottled water we had on us. Very disappointing and expensive, such a shame. I felt embarrassed I had chosen this place. The chips were so dry (refried I think within an inch of their life) that I could barely swallow them and we had to leave them. Who gets chips wrong?? This cafe needs a serious overhaul - more staff, better food and better serving system.

He took her off the food counter and put it on the Pay desk! 🤢🤢🤢 I haven’t been to this garden Centre for a few years and I can definitely say it wasn’t Standards as it used to be!

Continues to be the slowest serving cafe that I've ever been in. Picking up cooked food and putting it on a plate took 7 minutes. Drinks took 15 minutes. Absolutely appalling. Not cheap and the food was barely warm by the time I paid.

Used to be fantastic but has been going downhill in last 4 years or so. Much better garden centres around now. Prices are double a local garden centre to me for the same things.

Very expensive food - we had a roast dinner- a flapjack and a bakewell slice and 2 cups of coffee £40 more or less. By the time we had waited for the coffee our lunch was barely warm. The beef was nice, but the rest of it wasn't great. No horseradish,

Bought my son and daughter in law, afternoon tea voucher, they booked on arrival, there was no place set, quite a few dogs nearby, the afternoon tea came,no choice of sandwiches, only smoked salmon, which they don’t like, ham and mustard which they don’t like mustard, they was left only with the egg and cress, never asked if they had any allergies,I also paid extra for a savoury plate,no savoury’s,they said, the service was a disgrace,no apology nothing,I got in touch with customer services, who was quite helpful, and got in touch with the restaurant manager, who did contact my son,and apologised, and offered a refund, what a way to run a business,it as certainly gone downhill, and I won’t be buying my family any more vouchers

Pleasant garden centre with a good range of useful shops, Holland and Barrett, Waitrose etc ( 5 *).but the garden centre and cafe are massively overpriced. There are never enough staff in the cafe resulting in large queues, dirty tables which you often have to clear yourself and when your food order arrives it is invariably cold . Such a shame as this is a pleasant, convenient place to meet up with friends and spend an afternoon.

Absolutely appalling.most of the Staff were very ignorant. The service was horrendous especially the drinks station. Staff bobbing around seemingly not knowing who they were serving. I am physically disabled and when I went to use the accessible toilets, I had to clean it before I used it, there was urine all over the seat and floor although the inspection sheet had been filled in, in my opinion, falsified! Never going again and been going there for years!

Goodness, where to begin? I'm going to review the cafe as the rest of the garden centre appeared to be in reasonable order and par for the course. The Cafe however was a complete shambles. No singnage. No menu's. A complete lack of organisation. Elderly and disabled people left waiting and forced to stand in the food queue, a drinks queue and then a payment queue. Food underwheming and over priced. I had to wipe my own table. Well meaning staff running about like headless chickens without any direction or purpose.Who coordinates this absolute farce? This could be a really nice place to eat with the right management in place

Arrived in queue, service is always slow , but today was not a good day to visit. Only I serving, a bad sign, no plates to place cakes on.Server shouted for more plates, some were brought but dumped at the cake end display not near the few remaining scones,Although it was almost 2pm we did think there would be a better choice of scones on display, We opted for the dry very crumbly plain ones, it was a good 25 minutes later we sat down at a dirty table,It was amazing,no teaspoons ,no napkins,no saucers under cups,no small pots available for extra hot water.I actually cleaned my cup with a wet wipe as it was dirty. It was a disappointing visit to say the least , do not think I will be renewing my Dobbies card next year.

Came on Monday and surprised how poor the cafe was compared to last time we visited, portions very small food not the best, yes it was busy but that doesn’t alter the fact about the quality, looking around at tables and lots to be cleared away, we came a few months ago and the food was lovely good portions which is why we travelled here today only to be disappointed ☹️

Having frequented several drinking joints on my time on this earth I have never witnessed the shear pleasure of Katie the barmaid. Her knowedge of drinks, and pleasant conversation was refreshingly pleasurably. I will certainly be back soon to see her lovely smile! Keep up the good work! A credit to the establishment

Came to Bolsover for the day on my wife's birthday to have a pub lunch and to visit the castle. Having read the positive reviews we went straight to the Blue Bell. Walking into the beer garden at about 11.50 we saw that the view on a good day would be spectacular. Unfortunately the weather was bad so in order to eat inside we went to the door marked ‘Entrance’ which was locked. I checked on line and saw the opening time was 12 am (??)  so we waited. A few minutes after 12 the back door opened and we entered only to be told there was no food (no reason given). Although there was a sign at the bar, a notice outside would have saved time being wasted. Fortunately there are other places to eat so we went elsewhere.
