Food Ok service very slow Staff very rude and didn’t understand that waiting an hour for 5 baguettes was a long time - suggested I didn’t understand and didn’t work in the industry as it was a Saturday and they were busy. Baguettes were perfectly fine but certainly not worth the wait

We were staying in Manton village for three nights midweek so decided to visit the pub on our first night, and then our second and then our third! The food was good and the staff were friendly. It was fairly quiet, but we know it gets busy at weekends and peak holiday times so you might need to book.

We booked a table for 4 as a treat for an aunt and uncle who lived nearby. We were expecting good wholesome pub food and a pint. We weren't disappointed. The food was cooked well and of decent proportions. The atmosphere was nice and there were other diners there without the pub being overcrowded. The member of staff who served us was polite and appeared to have our interests in mind without being intrusive. The venison burger was lovely and the delicious sticky toffee pudding ensured we wouldn't need to eat later. It made our experience a good one, having travelled 25 miles to get there. So much so the aunt and uncle want to go again.

A pleasant atmosphere, warm, tables spaced at a comfortable distance, clean and no pressures from staff who were alert when we were ready to order etc.. Good humour in the wifi code and labels on toilets [which were clean and tidy]. Food is delightfully simple and served in a traditional way. My steak was cooked exactly as I had hoped, and others in the group were happy with what they ordered. The car park is convenient and well-maintained. Worth a journey of 200 miles [roughly midway with others in the family].

A lovely pub when you walk in, very clean with a cozy feel. Food however was terrible had the “tortellini special” which was supermarket bought covered in bland pesto - had no Parmesan so bought me a pot of grated cheddar? Burger was very very poor, cheap bun, charred patty and slice of cheddar. Would not bother wasting my money!

It's not a pub. It's a series of tables designed to get as many "covers" as possible. No atmosphere, cue Red Dwarf. If it's cold, and dark outside and you desire a cozy pub, this is definitely not the place to go. Sad really, it' could be easily designed for a comfortable pub atmosphere. In terms of occasional walkers and cyclists as a stop off. It's all good. But not for a cozy pub atmosphere.

Lovely setting, friendly staff, good atmosphere, just a really nice place to stop of with family or friends. We usually visit a few times a year especially in the summer and have always enjoyed our time here, sometimes with friends other times with family or just on our own, occasionally have had a meal here and have never been dissapointed, nice to sit or out, new decking outside is useful as it can get bust in the summer and this provides extra space being on two levels. We look forward to our next visit.

This is in such a great spot if you're cycling around Rutland Water; we arrived with only a few minutes to spare before 2.30 and the barman was fabulous, not hurrying us at all. We each had a baguette and shared a bowl of chips; despite being hungry, we could only eat half a baguette each and took the remainder home. What we ate was very good, if a little ordinary. The chips were hot, crispy and very welcome (this was an unseasonably warm day in October but beginning to cloud over at times). The beer was absolutely excellent (Beaver Neck Oil and Ten Fifty). We obviously had a very different experience from some reviewers as everything was clean, the food was good and the staff fabulous. The upper decking looked amazing but we stayed close to our bikes.

We came here in our campervan expecting electric hook up as there were electric points around the site. After plugging in with no electric we went into the pub and were told the electric had been turned off due to losing money! No one had bothered to mention this when booking. We had an evening meal which was also vey disappointing. Stale bread with the prawn cocktail, fish cakes were mush with no taste and the burger below average. No one asked us how our meal was and at nearly £60 with two drinks, very overpriced. Bar manager very dismissive also. Such a shame as a lovely spot. Certainly wouldn’t recommend.

Initially served by a really nice chap who was very attentive and knowledgeable behind the bar. Large portions (possibly too big) but not the quality we were expecting which was a shame as the menu looked interesting. We visited on a particularly quiet day which left the pub feeling a bit soulless but that sadly seems to be the case for many hospitality venues at the moment and not the fault of the venue or staff. Dog friendly, with a good selection of drinks behind the bar, just a shame the food wasn't quite on the mark.

Lovely pub, good service, unfortunately my meal was not great. I'm coeliac and vegi, my choice on vegi not on the coeliac. Only option was Thai vegi curry. Love my curries, but this one was disappointing. Portion of rice and what was supposed to be a curry. Well if you like a watery curry with very little taste then you be fine, could have used a spoon, and at £12.95 not impressed. The rest of the food that came out for the other guest looked good.

We stayed for two nights on the campsite and quite frankly we were disappointed. No electricity despite the charge of £20 a night; grass was in desperate need of a cut, bin area had stingers growing and rubbish that been there a long time as it was overgrown with grass. The pub stated you could use their loos but they didn’t open til 12 so not ideal…. No separate entrance for these. We did drink and eat in the pub and the service wasn’t brilliant it was like no one really knew what they were doing unfortunately but the food was lovely. It would have been nice to get a discount for campers - this would justify the £20 a night charge. Unfortunately can only give 3 stars due to the lack of love this campsite gets from its owners - such a shame. In my opinion if you put a small toilet/shower block and reinstall the electric and look after the site then you could charge £30 a night and it would be full all summer…. Missing a huge opportunity here.

Not many places open on a Monday night in Rutland for food and drink, so we decided to give the Horse and Jockey a turn, this being our 3rd year in Rutland for the weekend. Was pleasantly surprised by the pub, it was more updated than we imagined. 4 ladies with an appetite, and we decided on a selection of starters, all well presented, hot and tasty. Not sure where the chef is from but the best chicken strips this side of the Atlantic! Main courses again, were great portion sizes, hot and tasty. The ploughman’s is a great alternative to a hot meal on a summers day. We couldn’t fit a dessert in, although we were tempted. My only ickle ickle criticism was there didn’t seem to be angostura bitters behind the bar so couldn’t have a rock shandy, but the bar boys did their best and I was happy. Definitely will return, good wholesome food at a great price. Unlike some of the overpriced trendy restaurants in Rutland. (See previous reviews) Well done and thank you.

I have been to this pub many times for drinks and always wanted to eat here. It's a lovely location with great outdoor seating. Sadly I was very disappointed with the food. We arrived as 2 families sitting on the same table but ordered at the same time. The first order arrived but the second order pretty much arrived after they had finished eating. thankfully the barman who took our order realised our food had not arrived and chased it up but I suspect our order might have been lost as he had to confirm with us what we ordered. The lamb shank was very good and my daughter enjoyed her children's hot dogs but my fish and chips was very disappointed. It wasn't warm enough, didn't look great and there was no lemon with it. The £16 gastro pub beer battered fish and chips was not worth it.
