Enjoyed it here, nice range of food and drinks, portions were great and arrived fast too!

Fantastic pub, especially after a long walk. Food was cooked to perfection and amendments to meals was easy (swapped a salad for peas).

Very enjoyable lunch yesterday for grandsons 19th birthday. Sitting in the sun while we ate made the day.

Cheap and cheerful. Food is cheap, really poor quality, basic food, equivalent to a McDonalds. Not dissimilar in presentation either, although we waited 45 minutes for it and even then they missed one of the meals. We had such great expectations and were so disappointed. Also understaffed and they need a new chef!

Booked a lunch there today for a party of 4 people, very disappointed with the food, we had chicken skewers, greek salad, and burgers, service was ok and the staff were polite, but the food was not value for money at all, the desserts were not nice, pouring cream was lumpy and eaton mess had only one strawberry virtually no meringue and with warm squirty cream not how an eaton mess is made, this pub is ok for a quick drink outside on a warm day if you are on a bike trip, but otherwise would not recommend

What a lovely find. Great food and beer with a real welcome. Polite and friendly service from a relatively young serving team. Nice atmosphere with plenty of seating outside when the weather is good enough. We'll be back!

Hard one this as we had two sides to this visit. We went as they have motorhome/campervan overnight parking. This part of our visit was disappointing, for £20 we parked for the night on an unkept field which had obviously seen better days. On the other side we had dinner and couldn't have wished for better. The staff were attentive and the food excellent.

Friendly staff, lovely quiet location. Great for a drink whilst sitting outside surrounded by blossom and birdsong. However, the food was disappointing.

Awful service and poor food. Long wait for service and rude chef and waiter. Customer service training needed. They do not put the customer at the centre of what they do. A delight in telling customers that they would have at least 1 hour wait for food. Food undercooked and not tasty. Looked at if it had been plated up and re-heated before serving, which is disappointing for Sunday lunch.

Nice setting with outdoor seating ideal for a sunny day. Sadly the pub was let down by appalling food. £9 for some grated cheese and tomato on a sad baguette is a total rip off.

Visited for Sunday lunch, v busy, v friendly staff, menu as online line, we ate the gammon and roast beef, huge portions and v tasty, the only negatives being that the roasted veg were slightly undercooked and it all came ready plated - why can’t the vegetables be on a separate plate? But overall very good and we will revisit.

We met up with my husband's grandchildren for Sunday lunch. Had a lovely meal, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it as this pub has a lovely atmosphere.

Staying locally again and unsurprised to see that hygiene standards haven’t improved. 9am walk round Rutland Water and yesterday’s cutlery, glasses, crockery and condiments out overnight! Wouldn’t eat here!

Great pub to visit on a wet winter Saturday afternoon when there are few tourists & no cyclists! Amazing choice on the menu, great service & lovely beer.

Just enjoyed great pub grub, steak and ale pie for me, fish cakes for my lady. Food excellent, staff very friendly, quiet, but midweek, we will definitely be back.

We dropped in to the pub after a long walk, and had a warm welcome. The food was very tasty and well prepared, and the chef was easy to talk too and he took time to understand our needs. Lilly served us and she was great fun. She made my wife feel a million dollars, by complementing her hair. We will definitely be back.

I organised a Christmas lunch for 10 people at the Horse and Jockey. They made organising and booking it very easy. The food was great and they were very accommodating to a plus minute additional person. Would recommend if you're looking for a Christmas meal with a large or small group.

Very nice meal for the 3 of us. Cosy dining area. Very busy when we were there on a Monday night. Glad we had booked a table. Lots of outside seating including a large decking area. Food was excellent, and the service excellent.

Found this amazing little gem of a Pub/ Restaurant by chance on Google Maps, and what a fantastic find. The staff here can’t do enough for you, they even supplied a mat for my dog Ruby to lay on. The food here is excellent, especially the Sunday Roast ! We had the roast beef which was accompanied by five vegetable and lovely rich gravy. We visited three times and if we had stayed in the area longer would have returned again. Hopefully at some point we will go back. Thank you Dan ( manager) and all the staff. We loved our visits!!!

Very ordinary food. Fine if you're desperate to grab something to eat and be on your way but not for an evening out. Not good value. On the plus side, pleasant ambience and nice enough staff

The pub it is nice and it has a garden. Menu basic pub grub. Nothing appears to be homemade all out of the freezer. Large menu which probably has something for everyone if you like fast food but disappointing if you don’t.

First time visiting this area decided to stop at this pup for a drink and check it out. Was greeted by a lovely friendly bartender. Had a nice chat and sat with our dog in the bar area. Didn’t eat as had somewhere else booked. Drinks were good reasonably priced compared to where we live in the Cotswolds. Loved the outside seating are great sun trap. Nice time spent at this pub. Thank you.

Inexperienced staff. Pre-booked table was let go to others despite being early for the booking! Food is below average quality looking at the meals delivered to the table. Specifically, my fish and chips were disgusting; fish meat was grey coloured, batter on the fish was wet and soggy, limp leave salad and refried frozen chips. Also, the manager is very abusive and on a separate occasion repeatedly called my wife a “stupid woman” when she complained to him about the delivery truck blocking the exit from the village. He is aggressive, misogynistic and rude. He should not be in the hospitality business especially in a small pleasant village. I will not enter this pub again and respectfully suggest that anybody reading this review do not either!!!

Great views from the raised decking, beer is £6 a pint so not the cheapest but a welcome stop while cycling round Rutland Water.

arrived at horse and jokey for a Sunday dinner we had a BOOKED table for 2:30 as we entered we noticed how overly busy it was so we could barley stand , but no one was there to take us to our table we questioned 1 of the 2 waitresses/waiter saying he had no clue we’re we would be sitting after standing around for 15 mins the bartender shout “it’s going to be a hour and half for food” we immediately left and won’t be going back

Absolutely impeccable, fantastic food, fantastic staff, very friendly place. Very well run. Came on bank holiday August and ate on the Friday and was so impressed we came back on the Sunday. The venison was the winner here, both venison pie and venison burger. Group of 10 people and we all loved it. Big up the member of staff with the bandana he is a top notch bloke, and full of charisma. Would love to come back in the future. Thank you everyone from the Horse and Jockey, you have all done an exceptional job

Lovely village pub. Good food at a great price.

Lovely day and looked like an ideal place for lunch. But looks are deceptive! Ordered food and sat and enjoyed our drinks, but after half an hour we were advised that one of the items ordered had run out, so disappointingly had to reorder some of the meals. When the food finally arrived an hour after ordering, some of the food was cold and had to be replaced as it had obviously had been left on the side waiting for the new order to be processed!!? When mentioning how disappointed we were with the way the order went. All we received was rather unpleasant abuse from the chap behind the bar! Not a place I am likely to return to as not local but even if I was, I would give it a very wide berth!!

Didn't eat here, just had a drink, atmosphere was great, choice of lots of places to sit, really lovely place, will definitely come back and have something to eat next time as all the food that was coming out to neighbouring tables looked so good!

The food was well priced, not cheap, but very reasonable in today's market considering the location, quality and service. The chicken pie was a highlight, great, buttery pastry. The outside area is excellent, the sun deck, raised up is a perfect summer spot.

We ate here recently and can state, quite categorically, that it's a cracking place to visit. My partner had the fish pie which, she said, was the best she'd ever had (apart from her own!) I had the fish (or should that read Whale?) and chips which was superb. The place was very busy, as you'd expect with it being on the Rutland Water cycle route, on a gorgeous day, and the staff were quite obviously run off their feet. We were told, before ordering, that there could be a wait of up to an hour for our food, due to how busy it was. This wasn't a problem (it gave us the chance to have an extra drink!) and, as it happened, our food appeared in a little over 35 minutes. Personally, neither of us noticed an issue with the flies mentioned in previous reviews, although we did get "buzzed" by a rather magnificent Dragonfly. All in all, I'd highly recommend a visit here, forewarned with the knowledge that it's very popular and, therefore, at times quite busy. We will be returning.

Service is absolutely terrible. A highlight was an eye roll and a sigh when we had the audacity to ask to order drinks. Over an hour wait for mediocre microwave reheated food, used crockery left piled on the table, told to "pass your plates " when finally cleared, then ignored for 45 minutes straight. When we finally walked out having failed to get anyone's attention for puddings, coffee, the bill.... we we're loudly called "pieces of sh*t" in front of our children, and threatened with physical assault by a clearly drunk local

DREADFUL EXPERIENCE - LICENSEE DISGUSTING & ABUSIVE. Food deeply mediocre (at best), staff rude. Flies all over the table. Waited an hour for food then ignored for almost an hour without being asked if we wanted more drinks, pudding, coffee. When we got up to leave (to get attention) we were called “pieces of sh1t” and then a local was recruited to threaten us!!

We ate at the Horse & Jockey with friends. The staff were great. Friendly. We ordered our food but waited ages to receive it, which of course, we then had to order more drinks. The food was nicely presented and was nice. I wouldn't go over the top considering how expensive all the courses were. I realise its to do with the area. One thing that I have to mention, and I've never seen such a problem in any other pub we've eaten in. Was the flies!! There was so many. It was really really off putting. I know that you don't want a zapper or anything like that around when you're eating but honestly, there was loads. They bothered us a lot while we were having our food, it was pretty horrible. Sorry guys, but this is a problem for your customers, you need some sort of solution 🤢

Great place for a halfway break cycling around Rutland Water. Plenty of spaces in the cycle racks to park your bicycle and lots of outdoor seating. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Had a perfect bowl of chips. Well worth a visit.

Sunday lunch, no Sunday roast type menu. Very busy with cyclists and walkers. Limited menu, so went for the steak and kidney and venison and bacon, both with chips. My "venison and bacon" pie was just full of minced mush, not nice. My wife's was just very dry and tasteless. A very disappointing experience. Also the beer was not nice either. The pub itself was very clean but the service took very long and was not very impressive. We will not return.

Waited 40 mins for a sandwich and a portion of chips. When asked a member of staff how much longer until the food arrived they were defensive and rude. Would not recommend.

Nice bar staff but unfortunately tables were not cleared waitress just walked passed empty handed and both beef and venison burgers were not nice at all, dry and processed. 😔

Bandana wearing front of house guy was awesome. Joined in our banter, great service and was super friendly. By the end of our stay we had in jokes with the staff. Awesome time thanks!

The menu which was on their website was not the same as the one that they had in the pub. It's a small thing, but there were a few things we'd seen on their website we wanted that they didn't have on our visit. The young guy behind the bar had a strange attitude, he wasn't rude per se, but gave the impression he didn't think much of the customers. The main meals were decent, but the peas they were served with were very sorry looking (and tasting) specimens.

Stopped by chance on way home and glad we did. Had a lovely dinner of battered haddock and chips with partner having steak and ale pie (which he said was nice - didn't offer any to me to try, despite him having some of mine 🙄😂) this is a dog friendly pub (we had 2 lovely labs watch us eating our dinner 😂) it is nicely tucked away and there is a chance to stop over night in campervans I believe - yet to try but it's on the cards. Will go again

Great to watch birds, but as a stop when doing the loop around Rutland waters there's little here in the food and beverage department. Coffee machine and a few snacks.

Great pub on the cycle path of Rutland water. We called in for a couple of drinks. The real ale was top-drawer. The landlord was friendly and chatty. The pub has a lovely outdoor seating area and loads of bike racks. Well worth dropping in for a pint or two

Good food reasonable priced and friendly staff, just what we wanted. 2024 Gone back to this pub and it is still the same a worthwhile visit.

Called in on the off chance for lunch as had not been there for years. Very nice interior and loads of outside seating. Food was very reasonably priced and a good selection of ales. We had baguettes with generous fillings and side salad with a nice dressing. Gets very busy at weekends I suspect but a great place. We will return!

Nice pub apart from the rather horrible toilets. Food was ok but took an age to arrive and the service was slow and inattentive. Somewhat expensive for the quality and full menu not available.

Had a lovely meal here previously but unfortunately tonight was a bit of a let down. We'd asked for a plate of calamari to come out with our main meals and and the calamari came out on its own, then the remaining food took an hour to arrive after ordering (most people were complaining about the same thing and not having been told about such a long wait). Then the food was pretty mediocre, no one came to ask if the food was ok, we hung around for a while afterwards and the plates were left in front of us until we left. £9 for a child's portion of spaghetti bolognaise which was very small and came with nothing else like garlic bread was also pretty disappointing. As previously stated we had a lovely meal/experience before but perhaps they were just too busy tonight, will pop back another time and update the review, hopefully next time will be back to being really good.

Lovely evening meal here. A little wait for food, but the food was very nice and the hard working staff very pleasant. We will be back again for sure.

After finishing our half leg of the Rutland circuit we arrived for a much needed refreshment. We ordered food and drink. We then proceeded to wait for 1hr 15 minutes. Then only half our food arrived, when the ploughman’s arrived there was a series of sub par dishes with the ploughman’s not being worth the money with half of it stated foods not there. Then the second round of food arrived with two being wrong and less tuna than a vegetarians cupboard. Would not recommend to anybody apart from those who want to wait. The only sufficient dish is the chicken.

Looks to be a newly refurbished pub close to Rutland water. Food was good plenty of drinks choice too. Service was a little slow that day but not too bad it was quiet full so to be expected. We enjoyed it and it's was nice to meet with family at a half way house

Found this pub by chance and soon realized we had discovered a gem. Excellent food at a good price, clean surroundings and great staff. We enjoyed an excellent lunch here and if we were ever in this area again would certainly return. Superb.

We dropped in on the off chance for lunch, having been many times before. Although it was busy we got lunch and a couple of drinks. We both had the burgers, with chips and a side salad. This is purely a personal preference but the burger buns were very soft and 'bready', which is not our prefered style, but it was only a minor issue. The rest of our meals were fantastic. Seated outside, the service was still excellent, attentive without being in our faces and all the staff seemed unable to stop smiling despite it being a very busy shift This dog-friendly pub even has dog treats on the bar....could not ask for more.

Nice place went for dinner. Shared a starter of calamari then Ribs and chips and Steak & ale pie and chips, both were very nice.

Just want to say thank you to the two barman that went above and beyond to serve the wine (Chardonnay) that I wanted..... With a smile. And thank you for putting up with our leaving party for our dear friends 😁😁 We are so so grateful 👍

We were staying in Manton village for three nights midweek so decided to visit the pub on our first night, and then our second and then our third! The food was good and the staff were friendly. It was fairly quiet, but we know it gets busy at weekends and peak holiday times so you might need to book.

Very nice local, and the wheelchair ramp made a huge difference, the staff were really friendly, and the food was lovely.

Very reasonably priced and some good additions to the usual pub menus . My chicken skewers with thin frys and a salad was delicious and fleshly cooked to order. Pleasant staff and surroundings. Definitely worth a trip out for lunch
