The Wheatsheaf in Oakham is a traditional pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan and his team always go the extra mile to make you feel at home. They have a great selection of real ales, including guest ales that change regularly, as well as a menu of fresh, home-cooked food. Whether you're stopping by for a pint or a bite to eat, The Wheatsheaf is a great choice.

Friendly welcome and quickly seated for food. Good pub classics on the menu, between us we had pie, burger, scampi and salmon - all generous portions and very tasty, all at good prices. Fairly busy for a Monday evening giving a good atmosphere. Good choice of beers and gins, and a lovely cup/pot of tea according to my Mum!

Stayed in Oakham unexpectedly over a busy Burghley Horse Trials weekend. Phoned to book at the Wheatsheaf and the staff were fabulous - offered a choice of tables when I arrived. Chose to sit in the pretty garden. Service was absolutely first rate! Attentive, helpful, speedy, friendly. I had the sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked and rested. I was travelling solo and the Wheatsheaf had honestly the loveliest vibe and delicious food. Would recognize to anyone!

We were staying in nearby hotel and walked to this very traditional pub. Friendly staff. Good choice of local ales. Great choice of food including a specials board. The food was delicious. My husband and I had the Barnsley lamb chop with seasonal veg and saute potatoes. Other choices were the vegan burger and steak. If we visit the area again we will definately return.

A 25-minute wait to place a lunch order, although there appeared to be only about three or four tasbles in use. Eventually served by pleasant young lady. Fish was frozen and batter pretty basic and tasteless. Chunky chips (so called) were very solid and lacking in taste. Took some time to get the bill from the bar and the price represented rather poor value overall. Don't plan to visit again.

Went for an evening meal with friends as they had eaten here before. Great food and service and the staff were very friendly and happy to answer any questions about the menu. Myself and eight colleagues met at the Wheatsheaf to mourn the loss of a colleague. The owner was flexible, accomodating and considerate of our needs. The food was excellent, all nine lunches were perfect and the pub itself is exactly what so many pubs are lacking these days. Traditional features (including regulars leant on the bar) and a garden that is the cherry on the cake. Thank you very much to the whole team for accomodating us at such late notice and for exceptional service.

Overall probably the best pub in town. Whether you are local or visiting the Wheatsheaf is a really decent pub in the centre of town. Great food every time I've eaten here and decent value for Oakham. Service is usually spot on whether eating or just in for a drink. Atmosphere is generally great but can get busy particularly around weddings at the Church over the road. When it's busy it can be a bit loud but most of the time it's really lovely. A fantastic beer garden for any hot and sunny days we might get! Great food, beer, service, atmosphere and a lovely garden to boot makes this arguably the best pub in town

Having read the previous review ("Don't bother with Sunday lunch"), as the person who booked the table and whose Birthday it was, I would like give my own comments. Firstly , the table for ten was nicely laid out in a perfect position near the bar and a lovely warm open fire All the staff were friendly , polite & efficient. Our food arrived exactly on time and was found to be hot, plentiful and delicious. The staff made a lovely job in presenting my Birthday cake and provided plates &cutlery for a bought in item. It seems everyone enjoyed the meal except a very small minority. We will definitely re - book and there will be eight invited not ten. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WHEATSHEAF! and by the way , the "Old Original " Ale was superb!

We visited on a Friday evening. The Wheatsheaf is a bustling place and I was glad that I had booked a table. The atmosphere was very good with an excellent playlist playing in the background. The greeting was very friendly, especially considering how busy the staff were. The menu was varied without being too much. The gluten free options were very good. The service was friendly, attentive, but not intrusive, striking just the right tone. The food was excellent quality, well presented and very tasty. Though, not intending to, we both had three courses because the food was so good. We had a very nice evening and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Once again, a smashing day out at The Wheatsheaf. It was our son's 40th and a dozen of us met up for a few drinks and a meal. Kerry could not have been more welcoming - she is the epitome of good customer service; nothing is too much trouble, always has a smile on her face and contributed so much to our impromptu get-together. We were recommended to come here by another establishment in the town as sadly they weren't able to do food until later in the day. This was the worst bagette I have ever had. Instead of calling it beef it should have gristle and horseradish. I was asked if I wanted extra sauce and told them no dressings but it came running in balsamic which was under the bagette as well. When I told them all I got was sorry you dont like it. Area we ate in also looked like it needed some soap and water and a duster very grotty. We will not be recommending the place.

We phoned on the day to book a table, and glad we didn’t risk just walking in. All tables were occupied, but the staff didn’t rush anything, and gave individual attention to every table. We were made aware of dishes that had run out, and the lady who served us double checked with the chef when we asked about ingredients due to an allergy, even coming back and saying the different chef had made the chicken pie today, and not used any mustard. My husband and friend had the goats cheese salad, and I had the Mac and cheese. We all had ice cream after, and enjoyed all of our food. We felt it was great value for money coming in at £52 for 3 of us. We’d definitely recommend & return if in the area.

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.
