Lovely olde pub, flowers outside, front and in courtyard. Numerous attractive features, huge bar and so many hand-pumped beers. Super staff, Lucy (manager?) was outstandingly thoughtful, helpful and informative, an absolute STAR. Quick and efficient service. We were a family party of 10 for lunch. Fantastic Palmers Beers, of course. Although we were a happy, self-entertaining group, the Food was generally disappointing. My wife praised her battered fish, and superb crunchy-outside, soft-inside chips; another's Steak and Chips was cooked as she'd requested + 'lovely chips'. BUT. My 'Persian?' Chicken was a miserably small, monotonous and bland bowl of fawn lumps, bulked up by two large (and tasty) chunks of local bread. My companions who also ordered Persian? Chicken were similarly disappointed by the small sized portion and blandness! Understandably pubs need to make a profit on food, but Chicken is so inexpensive (try Googling: "5kg boneless chicken" it's around £35 from numerous butchers) and just a few vegetables would add colour and value. A shame! Sadly my pudding was the MOST disappointing I've experienced for years; creamy Bread-and-Butter pudding (£7.50) was a thin slice of thick custard or sauce on top of literally two 'fingers' or 'soldiers' of dry bread and sultanas. Shame on the cooks! The mini jug of cream ?50ml helped moisten it. But OH DEAR, please Google: Bread Pudding (it can be delicious and not expensive to make!). Might the kitchen focus on a shorter and more thoughtful, still profit-making, menu? Of course, we had a lovely family get-together; enhanced by the spacious and charming pub, the beer, the super staff and in particular by the energetic, charmingly thoughtful LUCY (what a Gem!) who raised my 3* to 4*.

This place has tried to report my honest review.... My friend organised my sisters baby shower here... it was stressful from start to finish! Unprofessional and rude manager! Upon agreeing to a booking with an ordinary lunch menu (weeks in advance), my friend received a text the day before the event asking why she hadn't paid a deposit or given any pre orders yet. This was a shock as nothing about a pre order or a deposit was discussed. We had to settle with a "Hot pork buffet" (otherwise there would've been no food at all) and we were not told the price of this. I asked the price once I was there, to which I was told it was £12.95pp, which was a shock and there was no way I'd feel comfortable asking our guests to spend that, especially when some only had chips because it didn't cater to everyone's dietary requirements. Not only that, but ALL the food was cold. We later also cleared away our own plates, cutlery and glasses! We then noticed a large group of people come in, clearly for a separate event... a member of staff came over at 2.50pm and told us we needed to be out by 3pm.... again... this was never said to us upon making a booking! We had to quickly get my sisters cake out whilst the other party stood awkwardly and watched (I actually felt sorry for them). After all this, we were extremely unhappy with the service we received. We went to discuss this with the manager as I was not happy to pay the full amount for food after everything. The manager was so unprofessional and rude to me and my friend, I was actually taken aback!! When I raised some of the issues I was told "well you never asked!!" or "we told you that!" (when they didn't). Please choose elsewhere for your event, we felt lied to and it ruined what was supposed to be a special day. I felt I could have run the place better myself, despite having no experience! We headed to Barco Lounge with our cake as our event was cut short. They were kind enough to give us plates and cutlery for the cake. I would suggest Barco if you're looking to host an event in Selby! We certainly won't be returning to No.1

First time visiting, was nice. Scan your ID at the door and up the stairs. Shisha is decent.

Has gone downhill rapidly........ Food is cooked, then re-heated later when it is needed.... sausages had re-heated wrinkles, bacon dry and very tough. Latte was just warm, Didn't want to ask for hot water, as felt that would be too much of an issue. Staff member got order wrong, then blamed the customer and said it was there error but the whole conversation was heard and the guy serving had it wrong. Overheard them bad mouthing the customers and the managers of the GCR. Decent staff have left and you can understand why. Have tried to reach out to the GCR but they have not responded back. Shame as it did have great food etc, as been visiting since it opened

I’ve visited this café a couple of times now, and it’s always a lovely experience. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and there’s a great selection of delicacies to choose from. On my last visit, I tried the hot matcha and carrot cake for the first time and was genuinely impressed — both were absolutely delicious. The decor is charming, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxing. I highly recommend this place!

This was the worst experience ever. As I walked in it was practically empty looked rough and threadbare . I then asked for some food items they had nothing veggie no veggi burgers no veggie pie. Finally we gave up ordered chip butties dry awful chips and literally unbuttered slice of bread left most of it! and drinks. Played on slot machine won £41 machine only paid £11 told they would call engineer then recieved text saying engineer couldn't see transaction REALLY? It obviously registered as it paid out £11 but not the other £30 and so I lost the winnings and money I was still playing with. I then got an extremely defensive text from a member of staff when replying by text late. Felt robbed to be honest and reported them !
