Cold atmosphere, colder service, cramped and pretentious food. Spent £90 and left hungry. Honestly thought i was in an ironic situation com about London’s middle classes.

Extremely amazing little store. The environment in the store is warm and not overly ostentatious. It is a comfortable and cozy small store. The plat du jour I ordered seems to be homely at first glance, but I didn't expect that the flavor is amazing! Even though the chicken rice that is labeled as containing rosemary and olives on the menu has a good flavor, what about the chicken...how should I say it? There will be a bang in your mind as soon as you take a bite, and every time you take a bite, you will take a moment to look at this piece of chicken from various angles and wonder: Why is this really fragrant chicken so delicious? Seriously, that's what I did when I had this chicken rice at cafe deco. This chicken stew is one of the most delicious chicken dishes I have ever tasted in my life and one of my favorite dishes during my visit to London. The store is very, very close to the British Museum. You can reach it in just a few steps on the next street. It is a perfect dining choice when visiting the museum. Highly recommended

A very difficult restaurant to recommend because the variation is too significant between the highs and lows for somewhere at this price level. I have been three times and greatly enjoyed the kidd previously and the game pie most recently. There is often a need to salt the dishes. The desserts are always good. The school food element is appealing to many, but I find a limit to the appeal on dishes with little flavor. Apart from the food, the front room is lovely. There are a few tables in the cramped back of the ground floor which are far less nice. There is also a room in the basement (which I hope is rarely used). The time we most enjoyed was in the main room, but we were sat in the small back room the other two times. The service was competent but reserved. I googled dishes to find out what I was ordering, but there was little invitation to ask questions or real interest in helping diners enjoy their evening.

This is an amazing gem. A true example of the new London food, very seasonal, with a natural wine bar. They make their own sauces and jams, you can take home. Exactly the type of restaurant I look for when I come to the UK. Top staff, daily changing menu, very well executed, fresh and original. Looking forward to the next time. The street and area is very cute to walk around. Go for lunch or dinner with a small group (2-4) to share things or alone at bar! Reservations suggested for dinner, or an outside table.

Oh how it pains me to give this delightful gem off Russell Square less than five stars. I went with a party of five and sat at a back table because we did not have a reservation. The rest of the restaurant looked cozy and convivial with warm lighting. The food was simple but lovingly prepared, bursting with flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed the smoked eel with fresh beets as well as the white bean stew. But the service! What on earth! Our party was met with mixed up orders, poorly timed orders, forgotten orders - all of it. My son’s perfectly cooked lamb arrived a full ten minutes after everyone else’s main courses which greatly affected our overall enjoyment of the experience. Of course we were placated with explanations and apologies but please, do not assess your patrons and think that the table in the back of the restaurant with children is any less deserving of a professional and efficient server than the table without. Put your trainees on the weekday lunch service. We were all disappointed, including the children who are also budding foodies. I hope to experience this wonderful establishment again and hopefully with much more polished service!

One of London's little secrets, tucked away in Bloomsbury. The place is relaxed and attracts style, style, style, in a homely unpretentious way. Not at all bougie, loud not attention seeking. I had to edit my review. I probably went on an off night a few months ago but we decided to give it another go. This time the experience was just perfect. Friendly service, good food and wine, buzzing but warm atmosphere and great desserts. Can’t go wrong. Old review: I really really wanted to love this place. Our experience was odd, off and random. We made a reservation for two a few weeks ago. When we show up up for dinner the place was half empty (or half full). They offered us a table in the basement. The basement: There were a lot of nice tables upstairs, by the bar, outside , etc but they wanted to sit us down there. It was literally empty there, quite hot and it felt strange they wouldn’t offer a better table. I asked for a table upstairs (there were two empty tables on the main ground floor) but in the end we ended up sitting by the bar. At this stage we weren’t as comfortable as it was hard to understand the situation. Deco maybe needs a bit more love.

I paid a lot of money for raw vegetables. Dish after dish came out with uncooked and unprepared food. I mean that literally. And the vegetables weren’t even cut up, but At least they were washed! Perhaps next time they will expect the customer to harvest their meal ahead of time.

We first sat down (already knowing that this establishment was a family favourite) instantaneously ordered the radishes with notes of umami and oaky afterbirth they were a hit! I rarely venture into the realm of whimsical eateries. However, my experience at Café Deco was, dare I say, enlightening. The ham, expertly cured and smoked to perfection, possessed a robust flavor profile reminiscent of henry the 8th greatest banquets own organic offerings. Its savory richness was complemented by the asparagus, which was not merely a vegetable but a revelation. Crisp yet tender, with a slight char that hinted at a masterful grilling technique. Each bite was a harmonious blend of earthiness and subtle smokiness. While I remain skeptical of most modern dining establishments, Café Deco’s ham and asparagus has earned a grudging respect from this diner. If you seek a meal that combines rustic charm with refined execution, look no further. As I would say, “It’s like a symphony in my mouth.”

As one reviewer commented, rename this "cafe re-deco"....interior one step above a greasy spoon with a pretentious overpriced very limited selection of dishes. I was dining with a group of five and three of us ordered the garlic chicken fricassee with rice, which we all thought pretty ordinary and certainly not enough as a main and ridiculously overpriced. There is only one beer at £24 a bottle, - they do however serve this in tiny thimbals that look like oversized shot glasses at £5.80 ...just unbelievable!!. On the positive side there is an extensive wine list... Overall this was a dissapointing experience and none of our group would have any desire to return.

Really wanted to like this restaurant. It is set an a largely residential bubble surrounded by the bustle of Tottenham Court and the British Museum. There are four window seats where there should be three. Can't imagine if all seats were filled being able to eat. Way too tight. Server gave me the wrong menu. Server gave me the wrong bill. Took an extremely long time between the watery soup and the pasta course. The Gnudi was good after a couple of bites, but I don't see how you can eat large balls of ricotta for a main course. But that's not the restaurant's fault. The diner beside me couldn't finish it either. Overall, a disappointment for a solo diner, but people who were in small groups seem to really be having a good time.

Lovely wine selection. Lovely ambience: brilliant food in an unpretentious setting. Service was friendly and attentive. Great as a solo diner, date night, with a group of friends or as somewhere to impress visitors only in town briefly. Very well located, despite being on a quiet street away from disruptive noise. If you find yourself in Bloomsbury, I'd suggest dropping by Cafe Deco, especially for their desserts. The ingredients are fresh and genuine. However, be aware that the pricing is on the higher side, with £35 for a beef main course and £14 for a salad dish. While the meals are enjoyable, they don't quite justify their cost in terms of taste. I acknowledge the high rent in this area and appreciate the local community culture, but overall, I believe the food should be more commensurate with its price.

As we were seated downstairs in a cramped basement on rickety wooden tables with no windows I was really hoping for some excellent food … sadly no. The starter was some good cheese roughly cut and piled on a plate. Second course, bland spinach roulades and sauerkraut that looked like it was from a jar and rather grey looking, again just lumped onto a plate. Main course, oh dear .., really expensive beef well cooked but 3 small slices on a plate with 3 small hard dumpling and little taste, no veg option just a side salad and also baked spazzle which was pretty tasteless pasta with cheese and leek. The wine list was very expensive with lots at about £59 mark. Ours was £59 and not worth it. All courses were served on small side plates perhaps in an attempt to hide the meagre portions. We won’t be returning. The only plus was the lovely server.

I really wanted to like it here!! So sold by the pics and reviews I was so keen and booked it for Valentine’s Day. Sadly it didn’t deliver on multiple levels. The day we went they were running a German week. Totally fine but considering we booked relatively in advance and this was out of the realms of their normal fare, it was a bit disappointing to be limited to a menu that was quite different to what I’d been enticed by, especially when then the food itself didn’t really deliver. The staff were lovely but one was covering the entire downstairs of about 10 tables and couldn’t keep up. The couple next to us smashed their glass at one point and no one noticed for 20 mins - even when the girl was picking up shards of glass and putting them on her tea plate. Maybe another day, with more staff, a different menu and a buzzier vibe would be different, but we left feeling we overpaid for a disappointing experience.

I have been coming here over the last year and love it so much. It's very laid back, and the food is simple, homely, and yummy. The veg, fish and most of all DESSERTS are outstanding. The meat dishes I am not as drawn to. God the desserts. I don't know how they do it, but the pastry on the tarts is always spot on. I've also had some of the best salt cod I've ever had here, and I'm from Portugal where the national dish is salt cod! They salted it in house, so it was v soft and flaky. The portions are large. The service is always lovely. And it's great for solo-dining (ask to sit at the window, or bar). Thank you for having me : )

The meat dishes were good but the vegetarian options were very disappointing. When our waiter came to clear our plates he asked how we liked our food - we mentioned that we didn’t love the vegetarian main, and he was quite sassy about it. He said that no one else had complained about the dish and said why did we eat it if we didn’t like it? We weren’t looking for any kind of discount, we were just providing feedback since we’d been asked. Just felt rude and unnecessary. Otherwise the experience was okay - but I didn’t appreciate being spoken to like that.

A bursting little café serving simple, elevated British cuisine to share. The service was exceptional and the food delicious (special mention to the rillettes and cornichon toast: divine but way too small), but the starter plates are pretty small and £140 for two with just 2 glasses of wine puts it on the pricier side…

Very disappointing experience. Incredibly over-priced and underwhelming food. £22 for a bowl of what was essentially bland stew, and a pork chop with mostly fat that hadn’t been properly rendered for £30 odd quid and that’s without any sides. Chocolate roulade tasted okay but again, just felt very cheap. Staff were pleasant enough but not knowledgable enough for that price range. Wine was quite nice but again, £32 odd for a carafe. Sitting on a quiet street in Bloomsbury, you can easily forget you are minutes away from bustling Tottenham Court Road in central London. I want to say that Café Deco is a 'hidden gem' but based on its popularity, that would be misleading! Booking seemed to be essential. When we arrived there were a couple of empty tables which filled up quickly on a Friday evening. We had prebooked a table for two for a birthday celebration. We were told the menu here changes weekly based on seasonal and available ingredients from sustainable, organic suppliers. We had looked online to see this week's menu in advance. Onto the food, simply superb! There is so much choice yet the front of house staff happily explained each dish and gave honest advice based on our preferences. We had read that the 'egg mayonnaise' was a menu staple so we had to try. Highly recommend! Rich, creamy mayonnaise over a stunningly yellow yolk egg with tangy, soft anchovies on top. I could eat that every day. We ordered two vegetarian main dishes to share as mains which was plenty for two people. The spinach and bread dumplings were full of flavour and light at the same time, they literally melted in the mouth. The brown butter sauce blew our minds! I guess you can choose whether you want to share plates or have your own. We found the portion sizes generous enough to share two mains between us but I know not everyone likes to share. The choice is yours. Since the menu changes weekly, it is hard to give exact recommendations but the hazelnut ice cream was a delightful end to an amazing meal. Front of house staff were extremely helpful advising us which wine to choose from a (very) long and well-curated wine list. There was so much choice, whether you want a more traditional flavour or something more exotic/trendy - cue orange wines and naturally sparkling natural wines! The pink rosé PIAK! from the Loire was absolutely delicious, helping us hold onto the last of summer. I can testify to the benefits of natural vs non-natural wines - less dehydration, easier palatability and more distinct flavours to accompany the food. The restaurant has a relaxed almost casual atmosphere yet with top-tier flavours, quality ingredients in a calming environment. It has a neighbourhood vibe and the friendliness of the staff make you feel like a regular patron. Service was perfectly attentive throughout the meal. The dining room downstairs felt more intimate which would be perfect for a different occasion. It sounds strange but there is something about the whole restaurant which made us both feel very calm after a busy working week. We were compelled to give our praise and thanks to the kitchen team as we left. Thank you again for a wonderful meal. We will both be coming back for more. I am excited to see how the menu changes as London enters its colder, comfort-food months!

An charming little neighborhood spot serving elevated yet comforting British food. The restaurant is quite small (so book in advance) but warm and brightly decorated, with a friendly and smiling staff and an ever-changing menu. The food was delicious from start to finish - the artichoke on toast, the salad, the mains were all fresh, seasonal, and expertly prepared with not a pinch of salt missing. The server made sure to bring bread along with every saucy dish for us to mop up all the tasty leftovers. The wine menu is surprisingly eclectic, and we had a gorgeous Spanish white wine that was recommended by the team. Possibly the best part of the meal was dessert - a perfect treacle tart with the surprising but necessary addition of lemon to cut through the sweetness; bit of cream on the side didn’t go amiss either. In short, spent a lovely evening here and am sure to come back and try the food in other seasons as well!

The space and vibe is calm, unshowy, and not too loud; a very comforting alternative to so many other flashy and hectic restaurants in central London. I’ll be back again.

Smoked salmon and potato rosti, and zurek was delicious for a snack. Cute decor and in a side street away from the busyness of central London. Would come back again to try the other dishes.

It was alright. Didn't live up to the big recommendations and expectations we had heard. Very limited menu but I guess that's the way it is now. Changes every day. Well cooked, as you should expect, but parsimonious with the portions. Wine prices eye-watering but that's the way it is today. Waiter friendly and knowledgeable but a bit forgetful. (Bread to nibble on! One menu between two?) On the night we were there they only had filter coffee! Unforgivable !! Recommend it? Yes.

We had a shared lunch with 3 starters each at £10 with a 125 ml glass wine and a 350 ml tin of low alcohol beer. Food quality was good, especially the aubergine on toast. The meat platter was good quality but a bit limited in variety, the succotash was a bit uninspired as it seemed to be mainly sweetcorn. The bill, with service was about £50. The main courses were about £20+ each.

We sat outside with our dog and had a lovely dinner. Food was great, large selection of wines, roast pork loin main was amazing but fried courgette starter and John Dory main felt overpriced for what we got. Staff was great, very helpful and even provided water for our dog.

Spent two weeks in Europe and ate some fabulous meals. This, by far, was the best. Seriously delicious, creative, fresh…. And the service was terrific. Can’t say enough about how wonderful this little restaurant was/is.

A really beautiful evening! We sat outside and had a lovely dinner full of the kind of food that you could make yourself but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as good if you did. I really recommend the antipasti dish and the aubergine spaghetti. It’s a wonderful feeling to be surprise by how absolutely delicious the first bite is. I look forward to returning.

Small and cosy restaurant with outstanding food. Fish soup with croutons and rouille was fantastic, and so was the hake.

This boozer has become a new favourite after only one visit. Good selection of beers and decent pub grub too. It is snuck in behind Euston station.

The food here is nice, if limited. However, the place is hopelessly understaffed and hellishly noisy and chaotic. It's also really warm and stuffy which isn't what you want with a warm meal/drink.

Plenty of room to sit on the ground floor or mezzanine. There's a toilet. Must be busiest in the morning, and so, expect a queue then. There were quite a few people around 5.30pm, but most people had gone by 6pm. The barista was not rude and had a smile when dealing with customers. You can get all kinds of coffee (like cappuccino, latte, iced, etc.) and sweet treats (like cake, muffins or chocolate).
