Just a beautiful little restaurant with a big heart. There's a party atmosphere here - not just an average party, but one where everyone knows their host well and knows they are valued and appreciated. You'll feel very welcomed, the food and wine are delicious and personal and you'll leave feeling better, as though you'd been given a big hug!....We will be back!

I am so delighted to have been here. Found in Michelin at the last moment. Very relaxed environment that felt right for everything from a coffee to a 3 course dinner. Staff were engaged and helpful, wanted you to have a good time. Food was imaginative and modern with a slightly retro feel - proper food no cheats, fads or fake flavours. Would thoroughly recommend but watch what you’re spending

If you find yourself in Bloomsbury, I'd suggest dropping by Cafe Deco, especially for their desserts. The ingredients are fresh and genuine. However, be aware that the pricing is on the higher side, with £35 for a beef main course and £14 for a salad dish. While the meals are enjoyable, they don't quite justify their cost in terms of taste. I acknowledge the high rent in this area and appreciate the local community culture, but overall, I believe the food should be more commensurate with its price.

I really wanted to like it here!! So sold by the pics and reviews I was so keen and booked it for Valentine’s Day. Sadly it didn’t deliver on multiple levels. The day we went they were running a German week. Totally fine but considering we booked relatively in advance and this was out of the realms of their normal fare, it was a bit disappointing to be limited to a menu that was quite different to what I’d been enticed by, especially when then the food itself didn’t really deliver. The staff were lovely but one was covering the entire downstairs of about 10 tables and couldn’t keep up. The couple next to us smashed their glass at one point and no one noticed for 20 mins - even when the girl was picking up shards of glass and putting them on her tea plate. Maybe another day, with more staff, a different menu and a buzzier vibe would be different, but we left feeling we overpaid for a disappointing experience.

I have been coming here over the last year and love it so much. It's very laid back, and the food is simple, homely, and yummy. The veg, fish and most of all DESSERTS are outstanding. The meat dishes I am not as drawn to. God the desserts. I don't know how they do it, but the pastry on the tarts is always spot on. I've also had some of the best salt cod I've ever had here, and I'm from Portugal where the national dish is salt cod! They salted it in house, so it was v soft and flaky. The portions are large. The service is always lovely. And it's great for solo-dining (ask to sit at the window, or bar). Thank you for having me : )

It's solid, it's innovative, it's food that's *fun* to eat. It'll cost you, but you can go to a lot of bland places for the same money - just go here instead. Second experience was a bit more meh, found the portions on the smaller side with a disappointing cheese course but still all tasty and the atmosphere is really good here.

The meat dishes were good but the vegetarian options were very disappointing. When our waiter came to clear our plates he asked how we liked our food - we mentioned that we didn’t love the vegetarian main, and he was quite sassy about it. He said that no one else had complained about the dish and said why did we eat it if we didn’t like it? We weren’t looking for any kind of discount, we were just providing feedback since we’d been asked. Just felt rude and unnecessary. Otherwise the experience was okay - but I didn’t appreciate being spoken to like that.

A bursting little café serving simple, elevated British cuisine to share. The service was exceptional and the food delicious (special mention to the rillettes and cornichon toast: divine but way too small), but the starter plates are pretty small and £140 for two with just 2 glasses of wine puts it on the pricier side…

Very disappointing experience. Incredibly over-priced and underwhelming food. £22 for a bowl of what was essentially bland stew, and a pork chop with mostly fat that hadn’t been properly rendered for £30 odd quid and that’s without any sides. Chocolate roulade tasted okay but again, just felt very cheap. Staff were pleasant enough but not knowledgable enough for that price range. Wine was quite nice but again, £32 odd for a carafe. Won’t be recommending and won’t be going back.

Sitting on a quiet street in Bloomsbury, you can easily forget you are minutes away from bustling Tottenham Court Road in central London. I want to say that Café Deco is a 'hidden gem' but based on its popularity, that would be misleading! Booking seemed to be essential. When we arrived there were a couple of empty tables which filled up quickly on a Friday evening. We had prebooked a table for two for a birthday celebration. We were told the menu here changes weekly based on seasonal and available ingredients from sustainable, organic suppliers. We had looked online to see this week's menu in advance. Onto the food, simply superb! There is so much choice yet the front of house staff happily explained each dish and gave honest advice based on our preferences. We had read that the 'egg mayonnaise' was a menu staple so we had to try. Highly recommend! Rich, creamy mayonnaise over a stunningly yellow yolk egg with tangy, soft anchovies on top. I could eat that every day. We ordered two vegetarian main dishes to share as mains which was plenty for two people. The spinach and bread dumplings were full of flavour and light at the same time, they literally melted in the mouth. The brown butter sauce blew our minds! I guess you can choose whether you want to share plates or have your own. We found the portion sizes generous enough to share two mains between us but I know not everyone likes to share. The choice is yours. Since the menu changes weekly, it is hard to give exact recommendations but the hazelnut ice cream was a delightful end to an amazing meal. Front of house staff were extremely helpful advising us which wine to choose from a (very) long and well-curated wine list. There was so much choice, whether you want a more traditional flavour or something more exotic/trendy - cue orange wines and naturally sparkling natural wines! The pink rosé PIAK! from the Loire was absolutely delicious, helping us hold onto the last of summer. I can testify to the benefits of natural vs non-natural wines - less dehydration, easier palatability and more distinct flavours to accompany the food. The restaurant has a relaxed almost casual atmosphere yet with top-tier flavours, quality ingredients in a calming environment. It has a neighbourhood vibe and the friendliness of the staff make you feel like a regular patron. Service was perfectly attentive throughout the meal. The dining room downstairs felt more intimate which would be perfect for a different occasion. It sounds strange but there is something about the whole restaurant which made us both feel very calm after a busy working week. We were compelled to give our praise and thanks to the kitchen team as we left. Thank you again for a wonderful meal. We will both be coming back for more. I am excited to see how the menu changes as London enters its colder, comfort-food months!

I really really wanted to love this place. Our experience was odd, off and random. We made a reservation for two a few weeks ago. When we show up up for dinner the place was half empty (or half full). They offered us a table in the basement. The basement: There were a lot of nice tables upstairs, by the bar, outside , etc but they wanted to sit us down there. It was literally empty there, quite hot and it felt strange they wouldn’t offer a better table. I asked for a table upstairs (there were two empty tables on the main ground floor) but in the end we ended up sitting by the bar. At this stage we weren’t as comfortable as it was hard to understand the situation. The wines by the glass menu was ok but limited. The food was ok, it maybe needed a bit more love especially given the high prices and the bread portions could be a bit more generous. Overall Cafe Deco needs a bit more loving, attention to detail, better cooking and care. Btw by the time we left an hour and a half later the two tables were still empty.

An charming little neighborhood spot serving elevated yet comforting British food. The restaurant is quite small (so book in advance) but warm and brightly decorated, with a friendly and smiling staff and an ever-changing menu. The food was delicious from start to finish - the artichoke on toast, the salad, the mains were all fresh, seasonal, and expertly prepared with not a pinch of salt missing. The server made sure to bring bread along with every saucy dish for us to mop up all the tasty leftovers. The wine menu is surprisingly eclectic, and we had a gorgeous Spanish white wine that was recommended by the team. Possibly the best part of the meal was dessert - a perfect treacle tart with the surprising but necessary addition of lemon to cut through the sweetness; bit of cream on the side didn’t go amiss either. In short, spent a lovely evening here and am sure to come back and try the food in other seasons as well!

Really lovely place. The food is very nice, I found it was elevated versions of simple dishes I ate growing up. I had a stew with mash so doesn't sound very fancy but it reminded me of the one my mom makes, but made perfect, so mash was super creamy, the seasoning was exactly right, etc. I didn't love the starter though, which was artichokes. The waitress described them as having oil and lemon but I tasted no lemon, so there was no actual flavour to them but bland oil and artichokes. However, the dessert- my goodness! It was a lemon tart, and it was amazing! One of the nicest desserts I've ever had, it was not too sweet and was just on the brink of being too tart but it wasn't, so really lemony flavoured and tart but not overly so. It was served with a bit of creme fraiche which I'm always a bit dubious about but it went perfectly. Cut through the tartness and added its own dimension of flavour. I'm not one to order a dessert normally but I do love citrus flavours and I would return just to have this dessert again. A great choice if you don't have much of a sweet tooth. The menu changes constantly but I hope they keep the tart as a regular fixture! The staff were very friendly but one waiter kept trying to take away my bread before I was done (I wanted to save some for my stew) and I repeatedly told him this but he repeatedly came back and (without asking) tried to take the plate away which I found a bit annoying.

My partner took us here this evening as a surprise. He had been recommended the restaurant by a friend. We are on a low income and this was quite a big deal for us both. Wasn’t a great start as our drinks took 45 minutes to arrive. We watched other tables have their food and drinks arrive before us even though they had ordered after (their bottles of wine were far more expensive and their manner was far ruder.. maybe this is how you get served in this place!) We had a 7:30 pm booking on a Thursday and two dishes we wanted to order had already sold out and the menu hadn’t been amended. Our first dishes came out well over an hour after ordering and those that were meant to be warm were cold. We sent the £25 literal piece of chicken and chips back. It was returned reheated after we were told it would be remade. Even though it had been reheated it was still lukewarm with a couple of cold chips on the side. It was clear they were understaffed - those that were working were helpful and sweet, but it wasn’t enough. The bill was still far too high considering the service and food that we received. If you are going to sell and cook simple food this has to be reflected most importantly in the quality and execution. The prices are unjustified for the food we received this evening. Perhaps it was an off night however it isn’t about the money more the experience which did not deliver. Both a little bit upset as a we don’t eat out much and where expecting a little more from the experience. The egg Mayo was delicious though.

Similar to my ‘favourite’ (and half-namesake) Cafe Cecilia, Cafe Deco had been mentioned to me many times before as a new go-to-place. It was sunny when I went and I sat outside, presented with the first annoyance: why bother with uncomfortable chairs? But that’s not what I was testing; how was the food? Good, but not exceptional. From the three sandwiches, the chicken liver one was divine and the others I already forgot about. My main - a green lamb stew / hot pot - was homey and warming in the best possible way (and the meat was delicious). What was lacking overall - including from the service - was attention to detail. The explicit excuse: they focus on simplicity. In theory I like that, in practice it doesn’t work too well anymore if the execution isn’t absolutely outstanding. Also given the pricetag (£50 for bread, water, starter, main and cheapest glass of wine), not a place I can recommend, if it isn’t on somebody’s corporate card.

Completely nondescript food - not one dish was in any way memorable. I’m not a good cook but could make better food myself. Very bland, slightly overcooked pork on a pile of mashed potato looked a total mess and tasted like a rushed Friday night supper. I’m afraid at £23, that dish is not impressive. Starters were completely average. Like poorly-presented brasserie food. The wine list was the worst of all. It is so, so, so expensive. A rip-off. Very nice service and lovely staff. But definitely would not come back. Really disappointing.

Maybe a bit a harsh if I say it was the most boring food I’ve ever had. But I highly doubt other comments on “deliciousness”. The chicken was tender but not much flavour. The potatoes were quite bland and oily. And I just didn’t really understand the risotto, I could taste nothing but the bitterness from the lettuce and the cheese, or was it the point? The staff was friendly.

Good food to select from a menu that changes weekly. Really enjoyed my kale & lentil starter and grilled whole mackerel. Excellent wine list.

What a little gem of a restaurant on a beautiful quiet street in Bloomsbury! Absolutely delicious frill-free food. The menu changes based on what's seasonally available, and everything we tried was exceptional. The flavours are finely balanced - everything just worked. Wonderful and helpful service too. Must come back to try more dishes!

Went here for a meal with friends. Rotating small menu with plenty of vegetarian options. Food was delicious. Nice ambiance, not too loud.

Very good food. Space is quite tight though... Which makes the experience less enjoyable. They shouldn't cram customers so much

Scrumptious lunch, definitely a treat (prices are not ridiculous, but not student-friendly either!). I didn't have a reservation, so they offered me a window seat - not the most comfortable, I would recommend getting some nicer stools! That said, food was delicious - I had the roasted pork shoulder with fennel, and a slice of chocolate/hazelnut tarte. The fresh sourdough bread and butter were a nice touch. Service can be patchy - I asked for coffee and tarte at the same time, the tarte arrived so late my coffee was already finished (it would have gotten cold otherwise!). They gave me a refill, but still. I enjoyed the meal, but I would only go back for a special occasion (with someone else paying, probably!).

Great hearty cooking in a "Café" on steroids. Booking recommended and allow time for your meal. Menu changes weekly. Not cheap but worth the trip.

Had a great caesar salad, just right for lunch. They only had filter coffee which was a shame but the service was friendly and the cafe was lovely

very happy to be here eating devilled eggs legs curled into my cutest the pie was so lovely homey cosy with delicious pastry not too heavy just right, just the right amount of mash on the side perfect and elegant anna tobias is so amazing we love her the pumpkin stew with chestnuts were so sweet and soft and rich the texture, makes me imagine the moon cheese softness and the salt sweet delight of a distant sea that tastes the same at every tongue lap no matter where if cafe deco were a thing it would be an anchovy

Lovely little cafe with plenty of charm. The menu is quite limited with very little choices but the taste of food is very good. We ordered a cress soup and a walnut and blue cheese salad. Both dishes were quite small in portion but the taste was excellent especially the soup, very rich and full of flavour. A little on the expensive side though.

Absolute dream of a little restaurant. Beautiful simple food. If you’re looking for fancy service and pretension go elsewhere. With the delicious food and the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, I completely adore this place.

For the price paid, the value was exceptional given the location (situated 5 minutes from Euston station) and overall facilities. Everything was more than acceptable, all things considered.
