Nice atmosphere, Nice pint of Guinness. The pool table is okay but slight roll. The only problem is parking. It's very expensive.

Great friendly staff, good selection of alcohol

Good location and nice pub. Bar maid had attitude and then later when people were waiting to be served, the lad was in the room off the end of the bar surfing his phone, and she was nowhere to be seen.

Great pub for a drink and to watch the football on their big screen.

Proper local pub in the center of Southampton, nice atmosphere, good prices and great place to watch Sports. Highly recommended. Peter

We visited. We orders drinks and crisps. Locals stole stuff from the bar in front of the bar staff who ignored it. We Left. It is your pub, and your problem. I’ll be talking to your landlords about your staff and to the SIA about your door staff.

Fairly quiet, friendly staff. Excellent selection of beers, ciders and spirits. Live sports and pool for those who enjoy. The Lion was immaculately clean and well decorated and maintained. I commend the bar staff! I'd recommend The Lion!

Popped in for a late pint. Good atmos and bar staff

A good mix of students and older people. Prices are very good, staff are very good and hard working. It's clean, the toilets are spotlessly clean and there's a good sheltered smoking area out the back.

Really nice traditional pub! It was quiet when I went in but I can see it being a popular place at peak times. The staff were really nice and friendly, very welcoming. They have some TVs which were playing the football. I also noticed a pool table at the back which is a big bonus. Would visit again for sure.

Been to this pub many times and today was totally different. After having a lovely meal down the road at Diego’s, we thought were pop into this pub for a few after dinner drinks. As soon as we walked in the older lady with red hair behind the bar was incredibly rude. One of our party went straight to the bar to order a drink whilst the rest of our party popped to the loo whilst deciding. The way this most sophisticated and clearly very classy lady with red hair announced to the patrons of tonight’s adventures that we had to leave because we hadn’t ordered a drink within 4 minutes of entering the premises obviously made us very uncomfortable…immediately after stating we were unhappy with her attitude therefore shan’t be ordering anymore drinks she goes to get her ‘reinforcements’ (other patrons) who came to chat with us and unfortunately for our sophisticated friend they totally understood our point. Resulting in us not leaving immediately rather finishing the one drink we managed to buy before being shouted and screamed at. Moral of the story don’t go here unless you walk straight to the bar and order a drink don’t you dare decide or think about what you would like to drink! The Sophisticated and very classy lady with red hair really needs some personality and customer service training.

The landlady might be the coldest person I’ve ever met and possibly the most relevant reason it’s soo quiet. However the bar staff were very friendly 🤷🏼‍♂️

Typical local pub with mostly locals. You can get in contact with them very quickly, so we had to pints and a great evening.

Excellent pub. Really good selection of beers. And very reasonably priced. Similar prices to Spoons but without the dubious punters. Good atmosphere, tip top watering hole. Jolly good show my good man or woman!! I shall return.

Smallish bar showing lots of sport with a DJ at the weekends. Drink selection and prices were decent as were the bar staff. Pleasant little smoking area to the rear. Showed a variety of sports.

Called here for a drink as we were passing, sat outside first as weather was great ,then went inside as they clear chairs by 7-30 ,We were only going to stay for a couple of drinks but ended up staying most of night as great atmosphere, reasonable drinks and excellent bar staff +friendly locals .Nice to visit a welcoming local pub happy to recommend for drinks

Very well run lovely pub managed by tess . Takes pride in their draught beers and the Guinness is excellent quality too 👏🏻. This is going to be the first pub I visit next time I’m In Southampton 🍻

Lovely pub with fantastic staff. Real ales including Timothy Taylor alternating with Doombar. I felt very welcome as a non-local. I'm sure I'll pop back in again next time I'm out in Southampton.

Went on Wednesday around 20:00 the person behind the bar was eating food & said when I've finished eating I will serve you this was followed by them muttering to themselves who do they think they are. After eventually being served, not only was I served the wrong drink, I told to wait again & ask again once everyone had been served

Only a stop off on route to Southampton from the west Midlands. Sunday lunchtime and most tables reserved. Had a quick refreshment and toilet stop in impeccable facilities. All staff very friendly including a kitchen porter / chef disposing of old cooking oil.

Great wee pub friendly welcoming staff nice aswell 👍 only down fall was ask if they were watching Celtic v rangers match on the Sunday ask them on Thursday said yes asked them on the Friday they said yes ..when in on Sunday and guess what they didn't have it on .so yes they put the Scotland rugby game on .was watching that instead but along came the bar lady didn't even ask if I was watching it and turn it over with all the tv put on 2 the man United didn't mind but there was still 15 mins before the kick off so I could have seen the rest off the rugby ......but would go back because I did enjoy my visits...ps get in some alcohol free ciders would b good so u have a choice.....

Think we were first customers through door. Greeted by lovely black lab and pug. Has a lovely feel about the place.

An amazing little pub in the centre of town that still retains the feel of the much missed local pub. Great staff, great food, good selection of beers, wines and spirits and entertainment provided on selected nights throughout the week. Brilliant doorstaff at weekends, garden accessible from the pub for use in all weather. If you haven't visited, take the opportunity to check out The Lion! Edit: sad to say the management of The Lion has been handed back to the brewery, who are changing this traditional local into a chain venue. I hope some of the character can be retained, only time will tell! Wishing the former management, Angus and Tracy, all the very best with their new venue a few doors down. They will be missed, so I truly hope the brewery and new management will try and make sure The Lion loses none of its character and family feel Update December 2022: Pleased to say that the new management are both experienced and working hard to make The Lion into a successful venue, whilst retaining the character and feel of the local pub it used to be. Wishing the new team all success!!

Unfortunately had some very rude doorman. Was told it was last orders by doorman and refused entry. (was just after a beer while I waited for a cab). To then see the doorman letting in groups of girls after I was refused. Don't bother visiting

Really unprofessional! Wasn’t allowed into the lion because I was too “drunk” I would completely understand not being allowed in if I was drunk and not able to walk however I hadn’t even touched alcohol I was driving. The bouncers on door started to talk to each other and try and justify their actions after they realised that I was the sober one in our group. Really unbelievable!

I absolutely love this pub, I have had so many great experiences here. The owner, his wife and dogs are absolutely amazing. The regulars are a laugh to be around and know how to not go too far.

We stumbled across this pub after watching Rocky horror at the mayflower. We were a hen party of 8. As soon as we walked in we were immediately welcomed. The staff were friendly and service was quick. We were supposed to eat in the curry house next door but was having such a good time we didn’t want to leave. The landlady said we could order fast food and eat it in the pub so we took her up on her offer. In the evening they had a DJ and we danced the night away. Thank you for a brilliant night!!

Good friendly pub with a great atmosphere. Thursday night karaoke is brilliant. Staff all helpful and friendly as well as security. Any sign of an argument or unpeaceful behaviour and it was stopped before it started or the people were moved on politely by security. A great night out!

Such a welcoming place. Whether you're a regular customer or a new face, you're treated just as important. Nice garden out the back. Comfy and dry with the sheltered, seated area. The staff here as a whole are genuinely lovely people. They cater for all kinds of people here and are never discriminating

No real ale as it's gone off.... Rather noisy karaoke and the interiors are dated now.

Although we had seen photos of food on their website and the wall outside the pub clearly said "freshly cooked food", when we went into the pub, they immediately told us they didn't fo food. Upon later trying to check their website, it came up as "error, cannot connect this page"!
