Fantastic service and delicious meal at Papilion on Friday evening. The service team were so polite and attentive. The chef kindly ensured our dinner was served at exactly 6.30pm (time we’d requested) our waitress Codie was lovely and very helpful. I can’t fault a thing and would highly recommend going to Papilion for a meal

Last year, we celebrated our gender reveal party at Papillon, and the food was absolutely excellent. We recently booked our baby’s first birthday party at Papillon again because of the wonderful experience we had, but unfortunately, due to personal reasons, we had to cancel the event. We just want to express our sincere gratitude to Daniel, the event manager, for his outstanding customer service. From the moment we met him, he has been incredibly kind, understanding, and welcoming. His professionalism and warmth truly stood out, making our experience with Papillon exceptional. Despite having to cancel, Daniel went above and beyond to accommodate us, and his dedication did not go unnoticed. A huge shoutout to Daniel for his exceptional service—it’s rare to come across someone who genuinely cares about their guests the way he does!

I had an incredible time at Papillon. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home. The food was outstanding—each dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. It was a culinary experience. From the ambience , to the service, to the food. The food encapsulates what it feels like when your expectations are met with the lingering sensation of wanting more. The beef wellington was simply divine. The beef melts in your mouth as if it were chocolate m&ms on a hot sunny day. The beef burger and chips were mouth-watering with its slight salty taste and the aroma of the beef mixed with all its levels. Moreover, our server, Jayson was cheerful and enthusiastic with his service. Bringing joy before the meal even starts with his light hearted jokes and cheerful attitude. We cannot wait to come back for more.

The service was poor, the food was awful and hugely over priced, as were the drinks. We won’t be coming back.. definitely better pre theatre restaurants.

Really lovely building and very friendly guy on the door, who asked us if we would like to look around Then the barman told us we couldn't go upstairs because we weren't eating - the place was virtually empty so the upstairs rule seemed pointless under the circumstances

Waited an hour and no food. Left hungry and disappointed. We booked this restaurant for a pre-theatre meal. Arrived at 6.15pm and ordered food immediately. Chased up lack of food at 6.50pm and 7pm. We only ordered a burger and fish and chips. Despite promises that food was on its way we had to leave at 7.15pm to get to the theatre in time. Their lack of service completely ruined an expensive evening at the theatre.

Very disappointed this was our first visit to this restaurant. The chips were dry and overcooked and I was charged £9 for five small squares of pork most of which was fat. On leaving the restaurant, we went down a small staircase to the pavement below and the stones on the staircase were very loose and my friend nearly had an accident. I explained that I wasn’t able to eat upstairs due to a disability and we were told that we couldn’t have the menu we had to have the Bar menu, which was very, very limited. My friends, onion rings were very greasy. Not the greatest of experiences will not be visiting again.

What to a music gig here and the sound was very good 👍

Can’t speak for the food as I just came here for a gig- as a gig venue it’s great, but drink pricing is extortionate- I paid £4.50 for a soda water (from the soda gun) and lime which is outrageous tbh. I think that’s why it doesn’t really work having an upmarket restaurant using the same bar as for the gigs. There weren’t really many young people at the gig and I understand why as there’s no way most of them could afford drinks (even none alcoholic ones!!!)

Me and my partner went for valentine's Day was lovely. Can not think of a single fault.

The staff, ambience and location of Papillon is just fantastic. The rib eye steak, Papillon Burger and the fries was also really great. Only the Onion Rings were a tiny bit of a let down. They were too oily (dripping in oil and not the nicest taste either). The desserts was excellent; specifically the bread and butter pudding. The custard that goes with it was also awesome. I would’ve given it a full 5 stars if it weren’t for the onion rings. The staff are really friendly and really make the place welcoming and lovely.

Went here for dinner with my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. Absolutely brilliant. We both throughly enjoyed ourselves. I’d never had a steak before coming here, and quite frankly I’m worried to ever buy a steak from any other restaurant because I doubt it’ll be as good at it was here! Also my girlfriend said her chicken burger was the best she’d ever had. And the drinks and deserts were phenomenal too. Brilliant staff, fantastic atmosphere and well worth the price! Cannot recommend enough.

Absolutely abysmal service! Ruined Valentine's. So I'll start with the nice bit: the food was amazing. The miso pork belly bites I started with were great, and my gammon main was also good. The atmosphere in the old church was lovely! After getting seated, it took another 15 minutes before anyone bothered to come take our order. Waiting staff were intentionally avoiding eye contact with me! It then was another 10 minutes until we were finally given the water we'd requested WHEN WE SAT DOWN. THEN they just "forgot" to let the kitchen know we were ready for our main, so that took another half hour in total. As our mains dishes were collected, we asked for a dessert menu. It never came so we asked again after 15 minutes. By this point though, we'd decided we'd had enough and wanted the bill. When a member of staff FINALLY came, we asked for our bill, it took a further 20 minutes for her to come with the card machine, only to realise she hadn't given us the bloody bill!!!! To top it all off, halfway through we had some member of staff MAKE ME OPEN MY PHONE TO SHOW THEM MY BOOKING TO CONFIRM OUR TIMES IN CASE THEY NEEDED TO KICK US OUT TO GET OUR TABLE!!! The absolute cheek! Service was a disgrace.

A wonderful gastronomy in an old church. We ate very tasty and were served in a friendly manner. Unfortunately we were the only guests that evening. Come and try the Papillon!

My daughter and I came here for drinks and dinner, and everything from the service to the food was amazing! One of the things we ordered during dinner, were the cauliflower wings with vegan feta, and we have agreed that they were the best thing we ate that night! We had never tried vegan feta, but it was delicious, and the cauliflower was just perfect; the crispiness was lovely, and the cauliflower was not mushy at all, (which is typically the case). As for the drinks, we ordered many different cocktails, and every one we had was better than the last! Benji and Emma made our drinks, and they were both extremely personable and friendly. They not only made delicious drinks, but also provided lovely conversations and a performance as they went! Our favourite drinks from the menu were the Biscoff espresso and the Limoncello meringue pie, however, we also loved the cherry bakewell which Benji created on the spot. All in all, we had a lovely experience, and would defiantly recommend! Hopefully we will be back soon :) Thank you!

It is absolutely beautiful from bottom to top, and the atmosphere was delightful, it felt high class and like we were stars. Our server was Jaysek and he was one of the best servers I have ever had; He was quick, kind and informative. The food was very good, and I enjoyed it all, the options are varied and the potions are good.

Went to Papillon for a surprise birthday meal, firstly they ruined the surprise by telling the birthday guest that the rest of the table was upstairs and waiting, and it went downhill from there. We were sat upstairs right at the back and completely forgotten about. We had to go downstairs to order our drinks even though it was table service. We had multiple starters & meals bought out that were wrong/not for our table, these extras meals were also added to our end bill. The building was absolutely freezing so by the time we got our food, this was also cold. We had to ask multiple times for simple things like Salt & Pepper/sauces, these were bought to our table and then taken away before we had even used them! No one came and collected any glasses, so our table became pretty full. We weren't offered the dessert menu, and our starters came out at the same time as our mains.

Great size, we had the sirloin of beef which was £21.95, there was also the option for half a lemon, Thyme chicken, or glazed ham. The restaurant inside the church is a really great setting, we will return. We will definitely return.

Booking system diabolical! Booked, but didn't appear to have a reservation. From the outside it was very uninviting & really tatty. We are usually seated upstairs, but advised fully booked so we were seated downstairs. Very cold & drafty. Music was at the level for the bar, not dining (too loud)! Advised of wait time for drinks & food, but considerably longer. Over promised & under delivered. Food not great - burnt burgers, very little salad. Chicken burger tiny, disguised by coleslaw!! Desserts extremely pricey, not to mention £5 for a lemonade!! Toilets needed a clean & spruce up. Won't be going back when we visit the theatre opposite on our regular visits.

We booked Papillon for our granddaughter’s 12th birthday meal prior to going to the theatre. What a beautiful place, an old church, so well reimagined. The staff were so friendly and attentive the whole time we were there. Three of us ordered the roast chicken dinner, oh my! It was delicious, the flavours were amazing and the Yorkshire pudding was huge! My husband and I couldn’t manage a dessert, but our daughter and granddaughter did, they chose the brownie. They took one bite and said it was to die for, so pinched a bit and they were right. Then as a surprise the waitress brought out a beautifully decorated slate with “Happy Birthday” piped in white chocolate on it and another little dessert. We will be back in Southampton in September and will definitely book at Papillon again. Thank you everyone, my granddaughter had a memorable meal at Papillon.

My wife and friends dropped in for supper after a show at the Mayflower for what was a disappointing, undercooked Vegetarian Burger (the only Veggie dish on the main menu!). We were also charged three quid for a jug of tap water!!!

I cannot thank everyone at Papillon enough for putting on such a great Christmas party for us. From initially booking it Daniel was great, really helpful and really quick to reply to any questions I had. All of the staff on the night were lovely, everyone has been talking about how amazing the food was, we couldn’t fault it. The extra touches of the drinks tokens and games really added to the night. Here is one star to the staff this afternoon around 4pm for making my family and children feel like a rather unwelcome party there, this is two weeks before Christmas during a Pantomime season. Expensive mistake we will not make again.

Lovely venue for gigs, and close to the station for getting home.

1st coke I ordered come from the lines behind the bar. 2nd coke the guy behind the bar tried to gaslight me saying they only serve from the bottle to charge me more (downstairs) I didn't have a lot in my account but I had enough for 2 cokes. It was really embrassing as my card declined beacuse he charged me extra for something I didn't want You can see in the photo Coke from tap £2.50 Coke from bottle £3.50 I wanted the Coke from tap and I don't appreciate being gaslighted saying "we only serve it from the bottle" when I just had one from the tap This was on the 5/12/2024

Had a lovely evening meal at Papillon! When you first enter it does smell and look a bit like a nightclub, so we were very glad not to be sat downstairs. Upstairs is absolutely stunning and has a much nicer restaurant vibe, such an amazing venue! Our waiter was really personable and chatty, and although they had ran out of one of the dishes, there was still a few good options to choose from. We had the gammon steak with incredible chips and a lovely runny egg, and the pork belly which was also super tasty. We can also recommend the espresso martinis, although couldn't say the biscoff one was any different to a normal apart from having a biscuit crumb around the rim. However, we'd definitely recommend for a nice meal (but just ask to be sat upstairs!)

We booked for early evening dinner on a Saturday and we're seated upstairs. The venue is really lovely, a beautiful conversion of a church, and the food and service we received was excellent and exceeded our expectations. My Pork Belly dish was perfect, in fact I can't recall a better one anywhere else. The accompanying mash was silky smooth. Well done chef whoever you are! A similarly well executed gammon for husband. Service was slick and friendly. Highly recommended
