Poppins Restaurant & Cafe in Southampton

Came here due to the positive reviews. My partner left his breakfast it was too greasy and tasteless. I couldn’t finish mine. Despite us both being ravenous it was just not possible to finish it. Expensive for what it is, even if you manage to eat it.

Amazing service, friendly and very helpful Bacon and egg baguettes , strawberry milkshake Near the centre of town , very convenient and priced well. Two very happy customers And the waitress is very nice

We were next to WestQuay and offered our Grandson the choice to eat what he wants, where he wants. He chose Poppins over all the other outlets, As usual the food, service, staff and cleanliness was excellent. This also is our choice of venue and we are so pleased that this is has become a generational thing.

Not happy with the service or the staff . A delicate situation and a family member was made to feel embarrassed and self conscious. Spoke to manager and he didn’t seem to bothered Just said he would look after next time … sorry there won’t be a next time .

Never thought I would say this about Poppins but this morning I was ripped off! Breakfast and Coffee over £15! Come on guys...your restaurants in Petersfield and Waterlooville don't charge that much!! Won't be back guys after over 6 years of using your restaurant in Southampton!

Very friendly staff, loads of food for your money and delicious too. Always busy so you know its going to be good. Went about 5 years ago when we visited Southampton and Poppins was just as good as it then. Well done

Really quick service & decent portions My only comment (not complaint) is that I ordered a big Ultimate breaky but unlike my usual Poppins in Havant it had no Tomatoes,Mushrooms for same price.. 4 Stars out of 5

My wife and I popped into Poppins ( 07/03/2023 ) for breakfast and both chose the chef's special breakfast, which consisted of one bacon rasher, one sausage, one poached egg, mushrooms, beans, fried bread and black pudding. The beans were awful, no idea what make. Mushrooms were rubberised. Black pudding was tasteless. Fried bread swimming in oil. Egg when cut run into the bread oil, gross. Sausage was absolutely foul, first bite spat out. Bacon was okay. So £26.15 for two rashers of bacon and two hot drinks. Value for money.

My sister and I went to poppins on thursday 15th december for lunch.been there a few times that's why we chose poppins.it was really busy.ordered ham egg and chips for my sister I ordered a chicken curry with naan bread.quite quick with serving it.the naan bread was like bricks couldnt eat it.the curry was just warm.i ate it and we left.whilst walking around town I said to my sister I think that currys upset me tummy didbt feel right.we came home.i needed to be sick.that was it I was sick all night.next day friday felt really rough.wasnt being sick any more the other end instead.i stayed in bed all day drinking water only.today I've got up still getting tummy cramps and very light headed.i seriously think it was the chicken curry as my sister was ok.please be careful

I love this place, nice stuff, quick service, simple menu but high standard and delicious, they never disappoint, I have been here many times and I'll always come back with smile on my face knowing that I'll receive fresh and tasty food Highly recommended Btw best coffee ever

A busy cafe serving lots of breakfasts in the centre of town. We just had a tea and tea-cake which was okay but it didn’t have enough butter. Prices are reasonable and service is brisk if unfriendly.

I came into this Restaurant, with my family and Support Worker, as I was in a Wheelchair, since i had a poorly foot and couldn't walk that far around the City Centre. Us ladies came in and we were greeted with a lovely friendly voice, who showed us to a table, however, it was not enough room for the wheelchair in the front of the restaurant, so we went up the back where we had a lovely table and the chair went beside my Support Worker. We ordered our drinks and food, as well as my Husband's because followed us in afterwards. My husband arrived after we had started our lunch, which was big and i could not eat all of my salad, but ate the prawns, as I lovely those and they are expensive to waste. my husband had two ham sandwiches, whilst the other two had tuna and cheese baguette's with a drink. There is a ramp for Wheelchairs to go in and out of the Restaurant, good access through the Restaurant and there is a Accessible/Disabled toilet too. We loved it in Poppins Southampton, as the staff are very friendly and helpful towards their customers. The prices are very reasonable and we would go again to Poppins in Southampton, when we are next shopping in the City Centre?

Me, my Girlfriend and her Step-Sister went here for Brunch on Thursday. For comparison for what we got and the other cafe's restaurants around the local area, Poppin's Cafe is quite pricey. I had a Bacon and Egg Baguette; The bread was either Stale or overcooked. I am going with the case being stale because my Girlfriend had the same and she had the same opinion as me about the bread. The chips were alright, nothing special. For a portion of chips added to the meal was quite a shock for price, £3 added. I would be fine about a added price, however, £3 does seem a bit much. The atmosphere was nice. The toilets was very clean which gives me the impression hygiene in the Kitchen perfect.

Super friendly & helpful staff, would definitely recommend! Our little pickle poured salt all over her meal just after it was served & a lovely waiter took it back to the chef to be de-salted!

Popped in for some lunch. Yes it was very busy. When food came out it was cold. I informed a member of staff and was told “it was because we are very short staffed”. Staff not cleaning tables just clearing them. I won’t be back

The waiting time was far too long. Waiters don’t wear face masks when carrying food and the cutlery and crockery was visibly dirty. Very disappointing.

As the title says cheap and cheerful.....you get what you pay for and only popped in as was convenient. Tend to avoid as quality of food is generally poor and for what it is expensive.

Went to Poppins yesterday and had a nice BLT baguette - filling, good solid whack of bacon, coffee size was generous, perfect for no frills place with a big menu. Some guy a few tables away threw a strop and asked for his partner's money...

The food and the service in there is absolutely fantastic! You're greeted by a friendly face and really quick table service. The food always comes to you nice and hot and tasty. We were looking for somewhere where to have a light breakfast in the High Street area of Southampton. We came across this café which I believe is part of a small chain. The decor is a bit 1980s but the welcome was very friendly.We had a green tea, an orange juice and two slices of toast for the very reasonable price of £5.80. They were very obliging as toast wasn't actually on the menu.

I was staying overnight at Premier Inn Cumberland Place whilst on a short trip to see Les Miserables at the Mayflower Theatre. Although I love the rooms, the hotel breakfast buffets can be bland and lukewarm so I prefer to stretch my legs.Usually I would have gone to Halladay's, around the corner but that it is not open Monday or Tuesday, so I needed an alternative.I had visited a branch of the Poppins chain in Northamptonshire many years ago and I noticed there was one in Southampton about 10 mins walk away.I ordered the Inclusive Breakfast which includes tea and toast for £7.99 and consists of sausage, tomato, fried eggs, bacon, hash brown and beans. It was cooked on a griddle and so it was not too greasy. It was also cooked fresh to order.Although a chain, the place is clean and well maintained, far better than a fast food bar for only a slightly higher price.Perhaps the staff could have been a little more cheerful but they do their best. I expect they are on minimum pay.

Good hot food only thing letting it down on mega breakfast was there was only 1 sausage other than that very good

The bunch of guys working here gave what felt like hostile looks when I came in. They weren't hostile, of course--just unsmiling: they don't look you in the eye. To be fair, my veggie breakfast came up pretty fast and was hot. But this wasn't a place I felt like lingering.

Met a friend this afternoon for a coffee and catch up. Haven’t been to this branch before, the latte was a reasonable price at £2.50 and was lovely and hot. Had a couple sat outside chatting and people watching. Didn’t feel rushed to move along at any stage and was there 3hrs. The food that came out around us looked lovely so I will definitely pop back for a bite to eat one day

During our stay in Southampton, we visited this restaurant for breakfast both days. There is a large seating area outside and more inside. My bacon panini was divine and my husband enjoyed his full English.

Had breakfast here today before our journey home. Food and service were both great. Slight issue with bill which was instantly rectified. Would highly recommend.

Some of the biggies could learn from this place. It was busy but tables were cleared and clean, when people moved on the staff sorted the table.

Great down to earth place. Food is always freshly cooked and hot, seating a bit like a diner but the whole place is very clean and fresh. Service quick and staff are very friendly. This isn’t the kind of place we would typically go for breakfast, but we happen to be outside it when we decided to go for breakfast. The seating is a bit ‘utility’ but the service and the food was fine. Perhaps not the cheapest breakfast available in Southampton, but not the dearest either.

An excellent cafe for a full English. Staff are friendly and service is very fast. My only reservation is that the smokers use the outside seating and, and on a bad day, the smoke drifts into the restaurant. So sit outside, where the smoke dispels more quickly, or near to the rear of the restaurant where the smoke can't reach you. The food is nice here so it's a shame to let anything ruin it.

It's like an American Diner in its set-up. We enjoyed a decent breakfast and coffee. Staff are friendly, the place is clean and the prices sensible. We'd use it again.

Always find myself in poppins when visiting Southampton and have even had food here with family. The price is fair and what you would expect, cheaper than most of the restaurants in the quay and a lot quieter and a better chilled atmosphere.

Poppins is your cafe version of spoons. The food is cheap and cheerful and we are yet to be disappointed by the food. Last time we were there we had baguettes which were...stuffed. I'd recommend them as for what you pay, they definitely are extremely good value for money.

Always pop in here when visiting our daughter in Southampton, this last time was not as good as the previous ones because the amount of food has diminished quite a lot. Having said that it is fresh and hot, the place is very clean and the staff are attentive, we shall return when next down there.

Popped in for breakfast on Saturday morning with the wife. Breakfast was ok but for 7.00 was a bit small.The biggest problem was the sitting if there are 4 of you then its 2 tables, The seats do not move and are too close to each other, also the seats are too close to the table. The staff and all very happy and helpful. The place was clean.

For years I avoided Poppins thinking it would be a naff cafe. I have been pleasantly surprised. Yes, its chiefly grills, but they make the food themselves, serve with politeness and efficiency, the place is clean and I have eaten worse food and paid more for it. I had the sirloin steak, and have to say it was cooked just as requested, the fries were good, and the peas cooked to perfection. I've also had the Full English breakfast and the lasagne, both of which are equally passable - bearing in mind this is budget dining, it exceeds expectations. No it wont be winning a Michelin star, but for budget dining it's well worth it.

Well I did say we would !!, came back here and bought our friends with us, we all had different types of breakfasts, me being the fussy one (don't like this, don't like that) asked to swap items,delete items etc. No trouble at all was the reply from the friendly waiter, when the food arrived at the table the plates were heaving, piping hot and and the food was fresh. The place is spotlessly clean and all the staff very pleasant, one place that's definatly going to be frequented again next time we are down.

None of the seats can be moved so wheelchair users are not welcome here. This is illegal! The Disability Discrimination Acts states that all services including cafes must be accessible to disabled people, well it's not.

Today I have had a really go time here at poppins cafe. Every thing is clean and the staff seem to have fun while the work. They are always in communication. I ordered I massive breakfast and add three more items. One of those item was and orange juice which the waiter said he was not going to charge me for Result! the coffee is to my taste. For a cafe this does what it says on the tin. Food was tasty value for what you pay.

It was a cold day so we wanted a hot snack. We had jacket potatoes with different fillings and thoroughly enjoyed them. The food was nicely presented with decent portion sizes, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is nice and the staff were very friendly. I'd definitely go there again when next in Southampton.

This is very reasonably priced hot food. No bad kitchen smells, incredibly busy but the place is kept immaculate. The various male staff that served me were swift polite and very efficient indeed. A minimal wait. A large panini with mozzarella bacon and added tomato and a fabulously hot coffee was just over £6!

Visited this place for a hearty breakfast prior to days worth of Christmas shopping! First impressions were good- it is nice a clean, looks up together and the staff were very friendly. The menu as you would expect with a cafe is expansive. The food is no frills, but the amount, quality and price matches. Our party had a mixture of full cooked breakfast, bacon sarnie, sausage sarnies and scrambled egg on toast. All very good and tasty. Better than hotel breakfasts and certainly well cooked and presented. Good value

Having been regulars at the Worthing restaurant, we were not disappointed. Fast and friendly service, clean tables and excellent quality good value for money food.

My wife and I regularly visit Southampton to see our daughter, although we stay in the Travelodge we don't really like the breakfasts so we opt to eat out,there are that many cafe type eateries about its been a struggle over the past couple of years to find one we like and would be happy to return to. Well now we have !!!! This place is clean, airy and friendly the breakfast is of a high standard and cooked to your liking plus plenty of it. Price wise it is quite reasonable and the coffee is fresh. One place we will definatly come back to, might even try a lunch next time (watch this space).

Popped in today after meeting my other half in town. Planned on just a brew but ended up getting food too. Cafe is nice aesthetically and clean. The menu is mainly focuses around breakfasts which my partner got whilst I opted for lasagne jacket potato and side salad.

Needed a quick fix mid shopping. Pedestrian area, so fairly quiet. Some outside tables but we chose to sit inside. Waitress was wiping tables and seats clean. Very tidy area. Large menu choice of fried breakfasts, husbands choice and very happy with meal. I had mozzarella and tomato and pesto panini which more than satisfied my hunger. Nice big mug of Dorset tea and large decaf coffee for me. So had a nice smoothie. Lunchtime and place was full, only two free tables when we arrived, which speaks volumes I think. Also not as noisy as some places. Good quick service.
