Ordered three times here - to avoid giving my custom to the 'big guys' (Starbucks/Costa etc). The pricing is similar, except - you can't ask for a large size because it's all one size for hot drinks. First time - latte was lukewarm. Next time - I asked for 'extra hot' and It was slightly warmer. Third (and final) time I asked for 'extra hot hot chocolate' I got Luke warm again! The whole point of a hot drink is to slowly sip and warm you up inside - you can't do that with something barely above room temp. The 'hot' drinks just leave you feeling unsatisfied and still itching for the hot drink you never got. I'll go with a large, actually hot, drink from a chain-cafe next time. Sure - they don't pay tax. But at least the drink tastes good.

Intrigued to try this place after lots of people raved about it. I Asked if the “chai pot” was served in an actual pot / able to share or is a single portion. I was with someone and we would have shared one. Staff member said “we call it a pot but it’s just a normal drink”. So essentially we were swindled into ordering two as the portion was not disclosed appropriately. What arrived was 2 rather large “chai” tea pots of warm oat milk. It’s very dangerous to mislead your customers and call something a chai, when it actually has not been brewed whatsoever. What seems like a random assortment of spices were thrown into the filter of the pot and the tea leaves were supposedly steeped in warm oat milk. This is blasphemous! You have to brew chai properly over the stove if you don’t have an instant spice mix. All in all extremely disappointing and misleading menu. Was kind enough to swap one of the chairs for a coffee but even that was not pleasant. They were also extremely rude and kicked us out toward the end despite allowing other customers to remain seated. The chai tasted like dusty warm oat milk with 0 flavour. 0. The temperature of the oat milk was no where near high enough to extract any flavour from the spices or the tea? What kind of crazy behavior is this. It’s like going to a pasta restaurant and they use ketchup for their tomato sauce. Remove this item on the menu or learn how to make chai before you offend any more people.

Didn't apologise after putting parmesan in a dairy free meal when my friends baby is allergic, and on another occasion waited 10 minutes and wasn't even acknowledged when the woman was right in front of me. Brickwood is somewhere we enjoy getting a takeaway coffee and we rarely get to sit in. Recently, I had two friends staying over so we took them to breakfast here. For the second time after visiting Brickwood, I ended up being really sick. It happened once before and I put it down to bad luck - but after several visits where we have had to ask the team to change the glasses due to old lip marks or I’ve avoided using the cutlery because it has dried food on, or worse, smelt disgusting - there was no doubt in my mind that this is simply down to a lack of hygiene. Staff rarely wipe the tables when people leave, they are always sticky to touch, and the glasses and cutlery are often dirty. And when we point it out, they seem to dislike us for doing so. Everything seems like an effort and asking for even one change could result in waiting for ages for a new fork or glass. Sometimes my husband and I have shared a fork because we’ve had to wait so long for a new one. There just doesn’t seem to be any incentive to provide a good service to customers. I’m not sure where/how the food is prepared but often it’s pot luck how well it is presented. My breakfast toast is almost always burnt and hard to eat. I usually opt for a simple eggs on toast (but don’t eat the toast) for this reason, but it was after this order that I’ve had food poisoning twice. Please Brickwood, sort out the cleanliness at your Tooting branch. You have a great location, a good menu but you let yourselves down by not caring about hygiene. We have started eating elsewhere when out for breakfast and I certainly wouldn’t bring friends here again. Plus it’s just not fair on customers who try to support local but end up sick after eating here.

Extremely rude male barista. Middle aged, short hair. As a one off I'd let it go, but have had two bad interactions so far. 1. A colleague and I had a rare lunch break where we were able to leave the hospital (we are NHS staff). We went to grab a quick coffee, and as I was ordering, this barista made exagerated arm gestures and told me to 'calm down'. I spoke quite fast (still with courtesies, please, thank you etc) as we were short on time and had just come out of a fast paced environment, it's hard to switch out of 'go, go, go' mode. 2. I keep a photo of my NHS ID card for discounts, this is fine literally everywhere I've gone. We generally don't keep our IDs on us as they are also swipe cards, and if lost I wouldn't want someone to have access to labs/wards/etc. Today I asked for the discount as I was getting the photo up, and he quite rudely said I need to show something physical next time. He also very rudely said that he couldn't tell anything from the photo, despite it displaying my photo, my trust, my name and other information. I'm used to people being rude and taking tones with us, nature of working with the public. I don't believe anyone owes me kindness, however, I expect the person I interact with to not be rude condescending. I particularly take offense to being told to 'calm down.'

Our first time in Tooting Market and we found this characterful little cafe and decided to stop for coffee. Charming staff and the coffee was very, very good - I have a problem these days finding people who can make a decent flat white, but they know how to make coffee here and it was delicious. I have to agree that, although the cafe wasn't busy, the coffee was rather slow in arriving, but we weren't in a rush, so it didn't matter to us. The only thing I was horrified by was a customer who came in, sat down and plonked his baby, in nappy (albeit with outer covering) straight onto the table top. I know this isn't the cafe's fault, but just a totally ignorant (and thoroughly unhygienic!) customer, but I think the staff must not allow this sort of thing to happen. It would certainly put me off visiting again.

If you want yesterdays left overs, this is your place, if you don’t like seasoning, this is also your place. The burgers are dry, the toasties…yh you’re better off going with generic Pret. I really want this place to succeed, but they just need to get better at the basics. Weekend brunch where empty tables are sitting uncleared while people queue suggests persistent understaffing or disorganisation. Consistently getting orders wrong (at least one meal on every visit so far, and both this morning) because they don't seem keen to use a pen and pad is ridiculous. The food and coffee are ace, and the staff are lovely. They just need to nail some of the basics of running a restaurant.

The decor is traditional with a lot of wood on show and creates a warm atmosphere. The staff were friendly and professional. I had the veggie breakfast which was excellent. The gents are about the cleanest ones I've ever used in a pub. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

I have used this cafe for many years and since the proprietor Ali left it seems to have lost it’s way as on a number of occasions they are advertising dishes on their menu which they no longer prepare or have the ingredients for, therefor they need to update the menu to reflect what is currently available. I have also noticed that the sauce bottles they use have broken lids and could potentially be unhygienic.. A tweak here and there would benefit.

We've been here before, maybe a year ago and the experience was good, however on this occasion it was poor. We selected what we wanted from the website menu however when we arrived it was apparent that the website menu was out of date; some of our selections were not on the table menu. Two of our party selected Sausages and mash but there were no sausages so had to select something else. Three of us ordered fish & chips but bizarrely there was no vinegar available. It's the first establishment I've ever been to where you couldn't get vinegar with fish and chips. One of our party ordered a burger which was supposed to have two patties but was more like one and a half. He went to complain about it but nobody came back to us. When paying at the bar I mentioned the burger issue and the guy I was talking to went off to check with the server and he knocked this meal off the bill. I also pointed out that they had missed £60 worth of wine off the bill. He added it on to the bill but I didn't get any thanks for this. Wish I hadn't bothered now. I feel that the main issue however was the demeanour of the staff. Instead of "I'm awfully sorry we've ran out of vinegar" and maybe an explanation of why, it was "we haven't got any vinegar". It wasn't " I'm really sorry, we've had a run on the sausages and there aren't any left" or something like that, it was "we haven't got any sausages", It wasn't "we're really sorry the burger meal wasn't up to our usual standard" or something like that, it was "I've knocked it off the bill". It wasn't "oh, that's really good of you to let us know we'd missed the wine off the bill" or something like that. It was, well nothing really, it just got added to the bill. It was if having customers there was an inconvenience to the staff. There was minimal eye contact, no smiles and avoiding contact with customers as much as possible appeared evident. Wish we had gone somewhere else. We certainly won't be going again. I'm writing this in response to an email from the Nine Elms Tavern saying that my option matters. It will be interesting to see what, if any, response I get to this.
