We went for dinner here before Pat Metheny's gig at the Symphony Hall. Each had a starter, main and dessert. Everything was delicious! The service was perfect- attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Even on a less busy weekday evening, it was a really nice atmosphere to be in. We would go back when next in Birmingham and really recommend.

What a wonderful find. The food was delicious, we had a main of monkfish and a starter of scallops, both were beautifully cooked and it was washed down with a bottle of pinot that was also first class. Would highly recommend, great service and lovely surroundings.

We came here for a conference dinner and had pre ordered the party menu. The food was ok but nothing special. The service however was dreadful. We were a large group who had prepaid for food (which was not cheap) and they would not let us order drinks individually and wanted someone to pay for the whole party, which is tricky and even more tricky when you don't know each other! This is definitely one way to not make money on drinks.... When we finally ordered drinks it took about an hour to get them, even just tap water. It should not take that long. I know it was a large group but it was planned, just have water on the table already. The staff were not friendly and I honestly felt like they were very unhappy we were there even though we were bringing them a lot of money. When you have spent £50 on a preset menu, I expect the staff to be friendly. We got shouted at a lot. For my meal I had mushrooms, lasagna and cheese cake. It was all very average but the cheese cake which I thought was meant to be homemade was still frozen. I would not recommend going here.

I was at this restaurant last week to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We were really astonished by the dinner, the service, and the atmosphere. We were served a lot of delicious dishes, especially the seafood. La uo The staff were very friendly and cheerful. We had a great time and would like to go back another day. I really recommend it.

Visited today with friends. They chose the place and I knew nothing of it beforehand. As a college I love what they do, as a cafe I struggled. 4 types of baguette, all veggie, two with pesto which I don’t like, one with hummus which I don’t like and one with halloumi, which I don’t like. The soup was spiced which ….. you guessed it…. I don’t like. Cakes looked nice but were all vegan or gluten free. I had two pastries in the end, which were nice enough. Just seemed very limited menu for a busy Saturday lunchtime. Love the building, the lack of music, it’s a nice environment, staff are friendly. I’d have love to have seen pizza or Mac n cheese, if it’s gotta be veggie. I accept I’m quite a fussy eater ….. but reviews are opinions and this is mine.

A great review to start-at-the-end: If you are in this area, free to and wanting to eat-out; be nice to yourself and whoever you are with and visit this restaurant. The chances of you being disappointed are very small. The food is good. The service is friendly, courteous, efficient, knowledgeable. The decor is quirky, engaging and interesting. The ambience is brilliant. Put all of these comments into a mixing bowl trying to get to an overal summing up statement and what comes out is one word: SPECTACULAR. The inside (downstairs is the place to book) is an eclectic mix of what many might call 'too much stuff' but in being exactly that a charming antiquity emerges. Is it an old restaurant bar in France, or Italy that has been open for many years and nothing has been thrown away? Has a person owned it for a hundred years and it's full of history? There are dozens of bottles of wine & champagne on shelving all around. Some are empty, some full, some covered in dust, others only just beginning to acquire that look. Some are for sale and others just for the collection. Locanta is precisely the dining experience that all restaurants should be today; it is more than enough to entice us out of the house, encourage us to spend hard-earned money on food that the majority of us (still) can't reproduce at home. Take your time, ask questions, savour the food, drink classic wines, enjoy a superb Limoncella, relax and go home happy and satisfied. We will most definitely make this our go-to restaurant when visiting the area. I suggest you do too. EDIT ONE MONTH LATER: Just visited again ... even better!!

I have been dining at Laghis for a long time. This was probably my last time though. We were told the restaurant was closing down soon. This is a sad news for me. I have had so many nice memories of good dinner with dear friends in Laghi's.

Visited here prior to the theatre after booking in advance. It was busy but no one said there was any delays. Waited 40 minutes for our starters, but assumed that our mains wouldn’t take as long! Then another 40 minutes later our main courses had still not turned up! My daughter asked the manager nearby how long our food would be as we needed to leave and the waitress next to her rolled her eyes! Then the table who had arrived about half an hour after us, behind complained about delays and they were given free drinks and their food arrived! We cancelled our food and walked out! This completely ruined our evening! Their attitude was appalling. Nobody apologised or seemed to even care! I will never visit Ask Italian Birmingham again!

Attitude stinks here. I asked the server if the desserts were suitable for vegetarian or non alcoholic. She advised me that the tiramisu was alcoholic as expected but didn’t hurt to ask. And then I asked her if any of the deserts were suitable for vegetarian to which she did not even understand the question. Some desserts contain animal gelatine which is not suitable for a halal diet. You see that was not the problem nor was the server. She gladly went back and forth to find out if specific details for me. However, I had a problem when I was given a stare down by the manager as if I was the problem? Surely your servers should know if a specific item is suitable for vegetarian diet or not. It’s all a facade from the outside. You’re promised a nice meal with ambient lighting but instead you’re left with stinky attitude and subpar food.
