What a hidden gem. A friend made the recommendation for lunch with my folks on a whistle-stop visit. It did not disappoint. Staff are friendly and welcoming without being overbearing. Our host Erika was simply outstanding. I was struggling to decide between lasagne and chicken and mushroom tagliatelle. Erika's response was "why not have a start portion of each for your main- game changer!! Cannot wait to return and would recommend to everyone. Thank you team La Galleria!

Went yesterday lunch with friends, restaurant is very near New Street station.. The restaurant decor is beautiful, very light and spacious, great ambience. Ricardo, our waiter, was attentive, helped me choose my meal, I needed a vegetarian dish with no garlic! Plenty of choice for vegetarians, I had a risotto which was absolute delicious! Very good coffee ☕️ and reasonable priced. Highly recommend and will definitely return.

Met with friends for a girls' lunch date - first time at this restaurant which is very near New Street station. The restaurant decor is beautiful, very light and spacious. Ricardo, our waiter, was attentive without being intrusive and advised us about the various items on the menu. Between us we ate a variety of dishes - all were absolutely delicious. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and a wide range of pizza available as well as pasta dishes, risottos and other mains. Good choice of desserts. The prices were very reasonable - we left full, happy & determined to return one day!

Food was lovely but the service was awful. The waiters were so rude and we actually felt awkward being there at times. It’s a shame because the restaurant itself was beautiful. But I wouldn’t return just based on the service.

There is always somewhere in a city to remember. Everything is basically the same as two years ago: delicious Italian food, great Italian artworks and music, and friendly Italian people.

Perfect place to catch up with ex work colleagues. Food flavoursome, portions just right size, staff very attentive. Reasonable prices and a varied menu.

Had a birthday dinner here, lacked an atmosphere, it was a Monday after all. The main event which was the food, is the best I have eaten outside of Italy. It was so delicious, the sauce with the sea food, it has to be the best I have eaten and I have eaten a lot of Italian food. Compliments to chef.

Food and service excellent but drops pricey.

We have passed this restaurant many times but never visited until today. Absolutely excellent food and service. The pizzas are amazing and the mains were delicious. Ricardo was a fabulous and friendly waiter. The whole team were friendly and polite. The Amarone wine was exceptional. Thank you all for making our visit a wonderful experience.

Delicious food, service was great

A good hearty Italian experience, we had a reunion dinner for the four of us. Four starters, four mains, a side dish (courgettes) 👍🏻, some wine followed with a sharer dessert. The portions were a bit inconsistent, although fresh and flavoursome they were. Perhaps, we can enjoy our own specific personal preferences where particulars of the dishes in the way in which they can be served. The wines were likely the stars of the show, a little grumble that the dessert which arrived did not match the photo on the menu. All yummy just the same, however. We all had a lovely time with plenty of space to ourselves to move around comfortably during this midweek dining experience had in this modern Italian dining experience complete with pizza oven ‘al forno’. We came on our trip as a Birthday celebration back in fall 2024.

Visited for the second time and literally cannot fault it. From the moment we walked in, service was professional, friendly and swift. Starters and mains were absolutely delicious, lovely and hot! Will definitely return again soon.

We visited this restaurant after much research on Google on Jan 23. It's a nice, quaint restaurant. Service was good, we ordered pasta, pizza, Gnocchi, lasagne and a bottle of wine. Our bill was 126 pounds with gratuity. Unfortunately, 3 people from our party of 4 got sick immediately after this meal, and then after leftovers the same day. I called the restaurant after much deliberation because we wanted to make sure we could isolate the food as the cause. I requested the server who took my call to ask the manager to call me back, explaining to her how we all got sick from food poisoning. We never received a call back. It could be a one off but the lack of response demonstrates apathy and bad customer service. We won't be returning nor recommending this restaurant.

Dined with a friend haven’t seen for awhile, middle-aged waiter showed us to our table . The waiter who was exceptionally rude the minute we walked, he became very impatient because we couldn’t decide what to drink, when questioned about the food he was so uninterested, just looked annoyed huffed and puffing, it seemed to much trouble. We had to ask for our coats to be hung up! Food was pleasant but staff it down for me. Upon leaving, we did speak to the manager once again he explained it away is the Italian way!! What a joke nobody likes rude people staff. But he did smile when he was serving white people???

I fancied something to eat this evening, so I went to where there was a proliferation of Italian restaurants, New Street. I couldn't get a table anywhere in any of restaurants on New Street, they were absolutely heaving. So I decided to stop into La Galleria instead, what's the worst that could happen? I walked in and a tall gentleman with glasses approached me and asked me what I'd like, I asked for a menu and sat down. I opted for a Hawaii pizza, the bill came to just under £20 with water. I then approached the waiter and asked for a Hawaii pizza, he then said the strangest and rudest thing, he said "would you like that to go?" I said "no, I'd like a table", and what made this interaction even worse was he repeated back to me what I said, "you'd like a table?" I replied back to him "yes, I'd like a table" and then he apologised and showed me to a table, saying "I thought you wanted that to go." I didn't say I wanted the food to go so I don't know where he got that idea from. A very awkward interaction, as if he were talking to a youngster or an underling. It wasn't as if the place was packed, in comparison to the other Italian restaurants on New Street It was empty! And I know why, its because the attitude stinks. The pizza was OK, and the waitress wasn't particularly welcoming either, I got the feeling not only was I unwelcome, but that I wasn't good enough to be in the restaurant, as if I were some kind of peasant! And when I'd had enough, not only of the pizza, but of the chilly atmosphere, I called the waitress for the bill. I put a £20 note in the book and she actually came back to me with a durr tone and asked me, would I like the change, as if I'm some kind of cheapskate who wouldn't let the £2.20, or so, change just go. And when I left, they had the sheer audacity to say goodbye, I couldn't get out of the place quick enough! If I had been with a friend I would have complained. If I'm treated well, I tip well, regardless of what I have ordered, if I am treated with respect I will respond kindly. Note to the proprietor : At a time when eating out is considered a luxury, you should be happy that a new customer comes to spend money at your establishment. There are many eateries in Birmingham who would have been happy for me to spend my £20 at their business and they wouldn't have looked down their noses at me either! I find it ironic that your restaurant is situated on a downhill. Possibly a shape of things to come. Good luck, you're going to need it!

Friendly and attentive staff. The decor is quite dated but it felt cosey. However, I found the food to be bland- it just tasted of cream with no other flavours aside from the pepper I added.

Meal was excellent, starters of prawns, mussels, was excellent. We had the steaks for the first time, and I would highly recommend it, cooked to perfection. Staff are friendly and helpful. I will always be happy to visit la galiaria for lunch or dinner x

Don’t question it and go to yet another chain Italian. This place is so authentic the food is amazing (carbonara and risotto were perfect). Food came pretty much immediately and was red hot. The staff are friendly, welcoming and attentive. Genuinely couldn’t ask for more. Taught us a lesson to try the smaller places and start avoiding the chains!

When traveling abroad we don't usually eat in Italian restaurants, but for New Year's Eve we had chosen to make an exception. We couldn't have chosen better. Welcomed with a smile and courtesy. Caring and helpful with our children. Tasty, good quality and "very Italian" dishes are served. I wholeheartedly recommend this place. High prices, in line with the city, but well spent. Well done everyone.

Very artificial "Italian" food with not even a try of being authentic. If you want wine prepare to pay 35£ minimum for a bottle with no cheaper options. Desserts are 9£ each. We spent 80£ for a dinner of two with one main and one shared dessert with our food tasting all the same. I believe that Italian cuisine should be represented abroad appropriately, and I say that as an Italian culinary critic writing from one of the most prestigious gastronomy guides in Italy. We also got pressured to go away at 22 but we specifically chose the restaurant because the declared time of closure was 23. Very disappointing experience and absolutely not deserved 4.5 stars on Google reviews.

My partner and I used to love going here. The food is amazing and has remained so, and it is in a tucked-away location in the centre of Birmingham. Previously, the service was lovely. However, after our most recent visit, we will not be returning. I have read a number of reviews with similar experiences to ours. An older, arrogant white man with next to no manners whatsoever. The rest of the staff, some of which we recognised, were lovely, but he ruined our experience. We arrived and we were waved in the direction of where to sit - not an issue, but once he came to take our order, he began to be expressively rude. We requested a main and a side, to which he raised his voice to tell us that we had to order one main per person. Again, this is not an issue, but his delivery was somewhat hostile and extremely patronising. Further to this, he assumed that I would be having the pizza that we ordered and set the cutlery down. I swapped with my partner, as I had ordered the pasta. I excused myself, and when I returned, found that he had come and put the cutlery back in its original place. I made him aware once he came to set our food town, to which he seemed annoyed. When our food had arrived, he was very blunt and said "Move the napkin." which had been laid on the table, no smile, no politeness, nothing - I am happy to move the napkin, but do not order me around in such a rude way if I am a customer in your restaurant. We were not asked how the food was or anything whilst we were eating, and when he came to take the bill it was like we were a nuisance to him. When we went to leave, we used their facilities and the entire time he was milling around the table as though he was waiting to usher us out. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience and we will not be returning on account of how unwelcoming and hostile he was towards us and as I can see, towards other foreign customers (we are white, but we spoke audibly in Bosnian when sat at our table). It's such a shame as the rest of the staff, the food and their usual warmth made it a lovely place to go.

I was quietly surprised, and this very long established Birmingham restaurant should make more of the legacy, I didn't even realise it had relocated from Paradise Forum, nevermind thriving in this location. The food was plentiful, authentic and obviously prepared with the best ingredients, staff were attentive and professional and the price was straight down the middle very good value Considering how many mediocre "Chain" Italian restaurants we have dotted around the city, this restaurant represents the real McCoy without breaking the bank, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very inconsistent. Starters where great but mains where cold as they where sat out. The service was some of the WORST I have experienced. The waiter was so unbelievably rude, and distracted even though there where only about 5 tables full and 4 waiting staff. He ignored us while we gave our order and began speaking to a colleague mid sentence and had zero manners. We had pasta and pizza leftover so asked to have it packed so he threw everything in one box making it inedible the next day. I asked for a bag and he said no even though the table next to us had one for those’re leftovers. I wouldn’t recommend. Ruined my brothers birthday!

This was hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The waiter (an older white gentleman) treated us with so much disrespect from the moment we walked in. He seated us at a poorly set table and was sarcastic and rude when we asked to switch a dirty chair. He ignored us repeatedly when we tried to order and even shouted across the room when we tried to get his attention again. His tone and attitude were unnecessarily aggressive, and it was clear he treated other customers differently based on their race. Disgusting behavior that completely ruined our evening.

Absolutely appalled by the treatment we received at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were met with rudeness and hostility from the waiter, an older white man. He seated us at the worst table in an empty restaurant and when we noticed a dirty chair and swapped it with another, he made a sarcastic and inappropriate comment about whether we wanted to change the carpets too. His attitude was shockingly unprofessional. He ignored us when we tried to order and then shouted across the restaurant when we called him again. It was clear he treated the other (white) tables with respect while being openly hostile toward us. We left feeling humiliated and unwelcome. Do better.

To make matters worse, he treated the white tables completely differently, showing them kindness and respect while treating us (Asians) like we didn’t belong. Truly a disgraceful experience.

We love this restaurant. Delicious Italian food and friendly service. We had starters, pasta mains, and amazing tiramisu for dessert.

We've been going to La Galleria for four years but won't be going back after today's well below par performance. The starters were not too bad to be fair but we also ordered Focaccia to share. Basically it was just a plain pizza base ? It tasted OK but not really what we expected. Main Courses - RISOTTO:- was OK but nowhere nearly as good as it usually is. FILETTO ROSSINI :- Over- cooked steak and not great tasting pate and should of been served with a Mederia Sauce. In reality it was a not very nice opaque sweetened red wine sauce so not too sure what went wrong there. All in all it was one to forget to be honest. We weren't courtesy checked during the meal, nor did the lady clearing the table ask if we had enjoyed our meals. Following the main course we just asked for the bill, paid and left very disappointed....

My friend loved his lasagna but I wasn’t so sure about my carbonara. Staff were lovely and friendly, and we were sat very quickly after we arrived. There was a little delay in service, but the place was busy and fully packed so it’s understandable. Gets a bit noisy because it’s usually full.

I went to this restaurant recently, and honestly, it was a pretty frustrating experience. The staff seemed friendly at first, but the service was super slow. We waited 40 minutes without getting a single dish, and only when we asked a waiter did they check on our order. After that, it still took 10 minutes for the appetizers to show up, and another 10 for the mains. No one checked in with us during the meal, and honestly, the food wasn’t even that great—just average. The owner did give us a free dessert as an apology, which was nice, but it doesn’t make up for how bad the overall experience was. I wouldn’t bother coming back.

Between the starters and the mains we had to wait 45 minutes. We even lost our hunger... at least they were good.

Group of 12 of us visited this afternoon for our work Christmas get together. The staff were great and the food was amazing. We pre ordered to help the Restaurant and it all worked out great! Food was tasty and hot and everyone got served together. Nothing was to much trouble. Will definitely be going back! Thank you for a nice afternoon x

The staff was very welcoming and respectful. The food was very satisfactory The meat that I had ordered was tender and juicy with the pink sauce a perfect combination of juicy and sour and sweet, perfect!!

We enjoyed an evening meal in the week, after work. The food was lovely (we had Aaribatia and garlic bread), service was good and food arrived promptly. Overall it was a good atmosphere and a nice place for a relaxed meal.

What a fabulous recommendation, as you stand outside you look at this little setting, you walk up the stairs thinking what am I walking into…. Wow open the doors into what I would call a real restaurant. This did not disappoint one bit, the menu choice was fantastic all very reasonably priced (for the setting I was expecting much higher) staff very friendly and sooo helpful. Would cater for any dietary needs as all cooked to order, the food was delicious, I only wish I could have eaten more and taken pictures of the food to back up this post… I guess you’ll just have to give it a go and see for yourselves. I should think booking is recommended because this place would not stand empty. I will be returning.

very rude staff, me and my friend went and asked if we could get the dessert menu and the waiter said “you have to both get a main and then you get the dessert menu because these table cloths are more expensive than the desert” little did the waiter know we wanted to order a main alongside a dessert. overall very rude and personally i wouldn’t return.

A very busy Friday night and we turned up with no booking. A 15 min wait day in the waiting area with a beer and we were in - really friendly service and they kept us updated on wait time. Lovely food - the best bruschetta I've ever had, alongside a really nice penne arriabiata. Great service and I really enjoyed it - would definitely return.

I enjoyed the food here, was very fresh however got told they didn’t do sharing options so was not allowed one pizza between 2!!! The waiter we was served by was not nice at all and was very rude! He threw the napkin on my partners lap which wasn’t really professional! I also wasn’t too happy with the fact that the bill was £37 and he made a comment about gratitity and my partner said yeah add £2 he then goes might as well make it £40 I don’t appreciate being forced to add money to round up especially after not really great service!

We visited La Galleria on Sunday, November 17th, as a group of eight, and while there were some highlights, one server managed to turn what could have been a fantastic dining experience into a deeply frustrating one. Pros: Delicious Food: Every dish we had was flavourful and well-prepared. Lovely Atmosphere: The ambiance was warm, inviting, and beautifully designed. Friendly Staff (Except One): Most of the team, including the owner, were courteous and attentive. Cons: The experience was completely overshadowed by the behavior of our main server. He didn't introduce himself, and i don't know his name,but he was around 45 yo, tall, wearing glasses. Rude and Unprofessional: From the moment we started ordering, he displayed impatience and rudeness. He didn’t introduce himself and was inattentive, stopping mid-order to speak with someone else. Mistakes in Orders: He didn’t confirm our orders, leading to errors. For example, a dairy-free dish was mistakenly served twice, leaving one person without a meal. Instead of apologising or rectifying the mistake, he ignored it entirely. Our friend ended up not being served, and we shared our food so she can have something to eat. Sarcastic Comments: When we asked simple questions about the dishes, he was dismissive, responding with unnecessary sarcasm, such as “It’s a focaccia” or “You make it feel like there are only mistakes at your table.” No Effort to Fix Problems: Despite pointing out issues, he showed no initiative to resolve them, leaving one person in our group without a proper meal. Saving Grace: The owner’s intervention was appreciated, as he was polite and genuinely tried to make up for the poor service. The rest of the staff was lovely and attentive, which is why we left tips specifically for them. Final Thoughts: While the food and setting were excellent, the experience was ruined by the unprofessionalism of this one server. He soured what should have been a fun evening for all eight of us. Unless this issue is addressed, I’d hesitate to recommend La Galleria to others.

We came here for a conference dinner and had pre ordered the party menu. The food was ok but nothing special. The service however was dreadful. We were a large group who had prepaid for food (which was not cheap) and they would not let us order drinks individually and wanted someone to pay for the whole party, which is tricky and even more tricky when you don't know each other! This is definitely one way to not make money on drinks.... When we finally ordered drinks it took about an hour to get them, even just tap water. It should not take that long. I know it was a large group but it was planned, just have water on the table already. The staff were not friendly and I honestly felt like they were very unhappy we were there even though we were bringing them a lot of money. When you have spent £50 on a preset menu, I expect the staff to be friendly. We got shouted at a lot. For my meal I had mushrooms, lasagna and cheese cake. It was all very average but the cheese cake which I thought was meant to be homemade was still frozen. I would not recommend going here.

We were a group of 40. We had prepayed almost £2k for food and we were told they would only accept a single payment for drinks when we arrived, and would not let us order separately, even from the bar. Then it took 30-40 mins to even get a drink, even water. The service was rude and pushy, and made us feel that we were inconveniencing them, one waiter kept telling us that it was a hard day when we asked for something. They shouted orders at us. The food was mediocre and old fashioned. Almost not vegetarian or vegan options. A really frustrating experience when you have booked a big group.

Abismal service, bog standard food at ridiculous prices! AVOID!! Food - £20 for a very small, thin, dry, and tasteless piece of chicken breast, the smallest side salad you've ever seen and cold fries. Nothing seasoned! Drink - £7.70 for a pint of peroni. Enough said! Service - this is where it gets really bad... Rude, aggressive staff. Made to feel like they didn't want us there. No idea of how to make a group of people feel relaxed and welcomed and enjoy themselves...they made us feel unwelcome from start to finish. Then at the end, the manager gave my receipt to somebody else. No idea why? When I said, "can I have my receipt please" he got aggressive and in my face. These people think they can act however they like, take your money, treat you like crap and then laugh at you. This is not hospitality! AVOID!

Stumbled over this little gem while looking for food after staying in Birmingham for football even though the restaurant was very busy the amazing staff found us a lovely table and we had a amazing meal my lobster ravioli melted in my mouth and my husbands steak was amazing brilliant pudding to follow amazing service with very happy waiting staff definitely will return don’t let the entrance put you off if you walk in off the street it’s a hidden marvel

Appalling, rude service, no atmosphere and acceptable food. but nothing special. The waiter brought an item to the table that we hadn't ordered and I overheard him saying to another staff member that 'they can pay for it anyway' and sure enough it was added to the bill. If you like dining in a brightly lit, tired restaurant, extremely rude and unfriendly service, and ok food, then you'll enjoy this place. Otherwise, go elsewhere as there are far better restaurants, better food and far superior service and value for money elsewhere.

The food has always been fantastic, and the staff have been friendly and attentive—until now. Unfortunately, the new manager (a tall, older white gentleman) has changed the experience for the worse. During my last visit, he forgot us there to take our order, even the restaurant was quiet. He didn’t bring a bowl for the shells from my seafood spaghetti, didn’t provide a hand-wash bowl, and forgot to offer parmesan on top as the previous staff always did. Despite the poor service, he repeatedly reminded us about the service charge, which felt completely inappropriate. Looking at other reviews, I noticed similar complaints, especially from Asian customers. It’s sad to see a place I once loved take such a turn. With Bella Italia and Ask Italian nearby, I’ll be looking elsewhere until this manager either changes his attitude or leaves. Also, I just want to be clear that the owner there (a white guy without uniform) is always a nice one. But the new manager, might be an owner’s family or something, is terrible.

Wow. What an incredible experience! I’d give more than 5 stars if possible. The food was amazing, everything, presentation, taste, amount, flavours. One of the best pieces of Seabass I’ve ever had, including from a Michelin star restaurant that charged a lot more! We will be back! What a hidden gem 🥰

We had a pre-theatre dinner here and were bowled over by the service and food. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was exceptional. Can recommend the seafood risotto and sea bass. There was a nice atmosphere despite it being early. Authentic Italian, would definitely return.

Don't be put off by the unprepossessing exterior and the rather tired decor. The service was excellent as was the food. My only criticism, the toilets could definitely do with smartening up.

Italian food is not my go to food but my son loves it. On his birthday he invited me and his mom to La Galleria. I have to say I had the best Italian meal I’ve ever had there. Better than I’ve had at restaurants in Italy, the staff were friendly and attentive and I loved it and will definitely visit again.

Visited here on a wet Saturday evening in September and was very impressed. We had a table by the window in a sort of mezzanine area. All the staff from arrival to leaving were pleasant and efficient, and all staff we passed said goodbye on the way out. We had the Italian sausage and goats cheese wrapped in filo pastry as starters – both were very enjoyable. For mains we had the pan-fried monkfish tail and the fillet steak in peppercorn sauce, which were lovely. Our only criticism, and it’s a very minor one, is that we added a side order of saute potatoes not realising that there were saute potatoes in the mixed vegetables that came with the mains. Excellent choice of wines as well. We will definitely visit here again.

We had a great time in here. Manager squeezed us in as we hadn't booked which was lucky. Food was lovely and wine was a great suggestion.

We booked for a birthday celebration for 3.30 and arrived and sat down and ordered drinks from the waiter. Some more people from our party arrived pretty quickly after us but at 3.42 when not everyone had arrived a male waiter approached the table and asked how long the rest of the party would be as they needed the table back. I found this to not be a particularly good start and at this point we had only just ordered drinks. He seemed to be pushing for us to have wine and was a bit off with us when he took the wine glasses away as our party was either having cocktails or soft drinks. The rest of our party arrived a few minutes later. I visited the toilets and on my way through thought that the decor around the restaurant looked very tired and outdated. The toilets were not very clean and two of the cubicles had no toilet paper. There was a thick layer of dust on the frame of the mirror and if i am honest it felt a like a toilet at a train station. I returned to the table and we were helped by a female waitress who was much more welcoming and pleasant and also was accommodating of food intolerances. The food arrived in good time and was okay. The vegetables were rather underdone on some of the meals, but nothing bad enough to complain about. We had brought a birthday cake but were told that we could bring it out to sing happy birthday but that we could not cut the cake or eat it and it had to go straight back into its box which I found extremely odd and rather un accomadating. There wasn't long between courses immediately after the bill was paid we were told again that the table was needed and so we were rushed out. One of our party members was still finishing a glass of wine. We basically had to wait in a corridor while she finished her drink. The male waiter was not very welcoming and it felt like although we had spent almost £300 including a £30 service charge, that we were inconveniencing them by being there. I don't think I would return here and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone

This was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The food was disgusting—completely tasteless and poorly prepared. It felt like no care was put into the dishes at all. On top of that, the staff was shockingly rude and didn’t seem to care about the customers. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I had a terrible experience here due to an older white waiter who was rude and intimidating because we brought a half bottle of juice, although we ordered a bottle of still water in the restaurant. He treated other customers much more positively, which felt discriminatory and unwelcoming. Very disappointing service. Deeply adopted this waiter is racist.
