No me gusta.

A group of us went for coffee in the morning. Only one person serving, nobody else in there. Coffee took over 20 mins to come. Coffee and hot chocolate were fine. We returned for lunch later on and there was hardly anything on the menu. Mainly sausage rolls or scotch eggs. I ordered dip but when the other meals arrived mine wasn't there. Eventually I was told that they didn't have any left. I had a refund. Staff were pleasant but we were very disappointed as the cafe had such great reviews.

Such good food - all home made and a really unique menu. Amazing freshly baked bread as well. Nice atmosphere, great service, friendly staff. A gem in the JQ.

Inventive vegetarian menu, friendly staff, quirky decor, dog friendly, and BLISS - no background music. I had a huge focaccia sandwich loaded with delicious goat cheese, home grown salad, sweet red pepper, gherkin and pickle. My husband had a generous serving of home made beetroot soup so thick you could stand up a spoon in it.

First I think this is a place that attracts groups of ladies with the occasional retired gents. Not so much a place for a professor and students. We had a reserved table but I didn’t realize it had a time limit - after 60 minutes we were told we needed to pay because another party was waiting for the table. I was entertaining two of my former students and we had hoped to catch up. That didn’t happen when we were told to move along. Second visit I took 2 business guests. Was I dressed badly? Or am I too young for the place? The hostess was rude. So I think this is a place to be seen but not for long. Enjoy the food and beverages but don’t linger. I can say the food is outstanding but there are other restaurants in the area that have excellent food - maybe not as creative as the food at Hive but I tend to favor restaurants that treat me well. As you might expect Hive prices are expensive.

And a little restaurant where they try to make Italian cuisine. I often go there. The food is good and they are very welcoming. The price/quality ratio is fair.

It is overpriced and the portions are just about above kids menu. Somehow doesn’t feel like homemade from raw ingredients. The starter bruschetta not sure whether was freshly made. The fish is just like expensive fish&chips but small just above the kids menu, lasagna watery and chicken breast piled without quality arrangement. Good points were the starter bread with olive oil and the tiramisu. Could not remember whether being asked about the usual dietary allergies questions. The service was nice but noting special about the atmosphere. Not surprisingly just two tables were busy lunch time bank holiday. Mixed feelings but will not go back.

First time coming here and it did not disappoint. Being Italian myself it takes a lot for me to enjoy Italian food in restaurants but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Mediterranean seafood mixed girl and it was cooked to perfection and tasted unreal. I didn’t get all of the fish that the menu mentioned, but what I did receive was filling regardless. Ended up paying £60 for 2 starters and 2 mains which I think is good value for money for the quality I received. Thanks for a lovely meal!

My husband I have eaten at Buonissimo for 35 years and have always had great meals, great welcomes and great service. And everything we know about Italian wine came from this restaurant. Buonissimo is that rare treat in English cities: a family owned restaurant. This rarity is due to landlords only wanting restaurant chains for tenants as chains are perceived to be a more reliable source of income. Sadly it is lawyers that reinforce that myth, and people have to trust their lawyers (which annoys me because I am a barrister). Regardless, I recommend people turn their back on the microwaved food being served at some of the bigger and more popular restaurant chains (our son-in-law worked in one for a while as a ‘chef’ and was shocked at what he found) and instead support local families, private individuals and friends who are dedicating their lives to feeding the rest of us. A great place to start in Birmingham would be Buonissimo.
