After walking around the Peaks all day,we were starving. Googled Chesterfield and Westbars came up,turned out to be an excellent choice........By me. To be honest,I wasn't too impressed with Westbars from the outside, but inside it was a different story. Nice decor, beautifully clean and excellent washroom facilities. The Service was fantastic, the attention to detail and attentiveness to us was just right, very professional. The food was lovely and the portions were generous. Abrock, the owner, deserves a special mention for his service. Thoroughly recommend

Ordered a house special comprising a tasty spinach curry and a delicious mushroom curry 🥰 Together with the pilau rice and the largest naan bread I have ever seen, it was more than I could eat but my family happily shared it 😊 Impressed by the staff who made us feel welcome even though we were the last people in the restaurant and didn't try to hurry us up. They were happy for me to bring in my own reusable cup and didn't enquire as to the contents. The decor was very tasteful with lights that changed colour which had quite a relaxing effect.

First time back at Mahal for over 15 years when I used to work in Dodworth. It used to be s great place to eat. So disappointed with my visit last week. At first I just ordered poppadoms and a pickle tray. The poppadoms were soft. Ordered prawn puree starter, it was a large portion but wasn't like any puree I had ever had before and more like chicken in coconut soup wrapped in a fried chapati. I had a plain chicken curry with rice and garlic nan. The nan was nice, the chicken tasted nice and fresh. But the rice didn't seem right and the curry sauce tasted like it was out of a jar. Overall disappointed, probably the worst sit down curry I have ever had and I have had one most month's for the last 30 years. I would recommend the chef going to Akbars.

The Good:Poppadom (and battered starters) deep frying - well cooked, no excess oil on anything. The Bad:Small portionsThe chefs choice of two snacks on the veg Thali was 3 strips of deep fried okra and a cauliflower floret (in a nice batter)The 2 curries on the same Thali were something that could have come from a Sainsbury’s microwave mealThe Ugly:DecorCleanliness - while not that poor in general, too many things needed a better clean (tables, chutney pots)The yogurt and chutney pickles for poppadoms (other than the mango) were grim

I have been here many times, and a friendly welcome and the quality of food I received has never changed, it is always been excellent. I would absolutely recommend this to all to come for either takeaway or to eat in the restaurant as it is all equally good. I am confident that you will want to tell your friends about this experience.

We went as a group of friends and pre-booked, we were seated and served quickly. Food was nice and we were happy with what we ordered. However on getting the bill we were clearly overcharged, we questioned the bill and asked for a breakdown, this was not given and another bill just slapped on the counter but this time £50 less! No apology until we grumbled about the rudeness and were just told they had given us the wrong bill. We won’t return
