Tastey food. Small restaurant can be noisey but great takeaway curry. Staff are very friendly. Best curry in starbeck.

We visit all the time, live down the road and regularly eat out in the restaurants in Harrogate. Our Starbeck tandoori is the best Indian. Great food, service and value. Never had a bad meal. Small restaurant and you’re not paying for all the flash decor and the “Harrogate tax” of the town centre. Jump on a train to Starbeck takes a few minutes 👍

Visited for a quick Indian with family as I was in the area. I see many reports about poor poppadoms, but ours were great. The curry I had was good, not greasy at all, with the spices in harmony. Would be happy to go back and recommend.

Read some of the recent reviews and couldn’t believe what I was reading. We live down the road and visit regularly. We love Indian food and visited many over the years and our little Starbeck Tandoori stacks up against the best! Not your flash restaurant, but great food, friendly service and very reasonably priced. My favourite is the tikka garlic special, wife loves the tarka dhal. Give it a try you’ll love it ❤️

I’ve been using this restaurant on and off since they first opened. It seems to go through periods when the quality of the food falls below what was once an excellent standard. My recent visit was one of those. The highlight was the mutton madras main. Unfortunately, nothing else served up, came close. Bendy poppadoms, tasteless and chewy lamb chops, inedible fish pakora. Such a shame. I had been bigging it up to our visitors. Time to take a break and try somewhere else.

Awful - don’t bother. Stale popadoms and mains swimming in ghee/oil. Staff abrupt and rude - never again. So many better curry houses in Harrogate don’t waste your time and money .

Our Indian food loving gang were left unsure about this place. The best of the food was a Mutton Madras, Naan Breads and Tarka Dhal but the Papadums were bendy in parts and uncooked. The Fish Pakora was awful and almost inedible, the Tandoori Lamb Chops disappointing The mixed starter was reasonable and polished off with aplomb. Large bottles of Cobra were welcome but we were left wondering about the whole experience. Service was reasonable. Just not great

I celebrated my birthday last evening, with my family, and we had c fantastic time and fantastic food with tentative staff our meal was second to none the service was brilliant

We called in to this restaurant on our way home. It was our first visit and certainly won't be our last. The food was delicious, the portions very generous and the price was fair. Certainly worth a visit.

Went as a family gang of curry lovers. My brother lives around the corner and uses the restaurant frequently. It has a good vibe and was busy on a Thursday night. We ordered a heap of Popadoms with the Pickle Tray and drinks including a couple of large bottles of Cobra. All Okay so far. Some of us had starter, two of us Tandoori Lamb Chops which to be honest weren’t great. Mine were cold and just a bit unappetising. On the plus side the Mutton Madras Curry was good and the Tarka Dahl sensational. Naan Breads too were very good. Service was good and the food was good value. Menus we’re sticky and need a really good wipe.

As a customer here for over 20 years I am always happy with the great quality of the food, but this place has become a victim of it's own success. Sure the food is great but last week when I went, as I have many times since it opened 20 odd years ago, arriving at 7.30pm with a reservation for 7.45, had drinks and main courses, then the bill was shoved in our faces without asking. A few minutes later, it must have been around 9pm we were told to leave the table as they wanted it for someone else. Maybe I'm just being over sensitive about this but I find it disgusting behaviour, we had a reservation and it never mentioned that we had to leave for a specific time. No chance to order coffee or dessert. It was very rude of them. Not sure if I'll give them a second chance or not!

It is absolutely not worth it to go. I am an Indian and I have indian food everyday and the dishes made are not outstanding. They do not have enough vegetarian varieties and do not serve dessert and many juices . The quantity of curries served are also very less . They do not serve enough food for the amount we pay and the ambience is not great and has cramped dining spaces. The quality of the bill is highly unprofessional , they just write down the amount you have to pay without any items listed . The currys are too oily . I would definitely suggest spice culture for Indian type food , they are much better in quality, quantity and taste

We read this restaurant had won an award and decided to try it. It was just awful, sorry to say, started with poppadoms, the pickles were tasteless, we had onion bhaji & mushroom bhaji, both bland and tasteless, with no spices whatsoever. Mutton balti & special chicken balti, we’re both taslesless, under seasoned & grainy, garlic naan was tasteless. We could not get out quick enough

An unassuming small restaurant in Starbeck Harrogate the food is absolutely lush and a little different from a lot of other restaurants. Good and friendly service no frills but great taste

Chiken tikka with veg pilau and chipatis...it was lovely...most other acclaimed indian restaurants in harrogate have their dishes like glue for the sauce, this was a totally different experience, just how it should have...

The mutton biriyani was truly excellent, but all of the meal was really enjoyable. Very flavorsome, not overly hot, and lots of meat in the generous portions. So impressed.

I’ve been looking for a decent Indian restaurant since recently moving to the area. I’ve tried a few and have been very disappointed so far, until tonight. By far the best curry I’ve had around here and much better than a much more high profile Indian in the town centre. I had a chicken madras that was nicely spiced but had good flavour too. Rice was good as was my paratha. Very good value for money with efficient service. The restaurant itself was a little dated but a good curry and certainly well worth a revisit.

After reading the rave reviews my husband and I got a takeaway from here. We struggled to know what to order as there are no descriptions of the dishes on the website and some of the names were unfamiliar to us. I rang to find out more but whoever answered wasn't very forthcoming so we ended up playing safe and got dishes we already knew. They don't deliver and we picked it up at the time they said. It was lukewarm, swimming in grease and the two main dishes, a bhuna and a Rogan Josh tasted so alike it was hard to distinguish the flavours. That said my husband enjoyed it.

Went for a curry here... First time in a couple of years. Reasonable prices and good quality food. Need to go more often!

Having had several recommendations to try Starbeck Tandoori, we thought we should try it out. We took a table for two on a Friday evening and were greeted by pleasant, friendly staff. We were shown to our corner table which was a squeeze, but we did book late and they were very busy, so were grateful to get a table.The venue itself feels very dated and could do with a lift. Bearing in mind that margins are tough these days, maybe a new carpet would help.The food arrived fairly quickly, starting with popadoms and pickles which were plentiful and fresh. We ordered tandoori fish and chicken handi (with a request to hike up the heat) for mains. The fish was quite underdone in places, however as we'd eaten more than half before realising we didn't address the issue. The chicken handi was average, veering towards bland without any real flavour and certainly not 'chilli' hot as requested, however it certainly wasn't offensive and it was all eaten. The naan bread and rice were very good however. I'm sure if we had raised our issues at the time, the staff would have accommodated as they seemed friendly and helpful. If you are visiting this place, expect a very typical 1980's curry house experience and you won't be disappointed.

For a change, we decided to have a takeaway today from here. We ordinarily dine in and have never had any complaints with the many dishes I have tried here. Incredibly, the standard is transferred to takeaway dishes. All meals were cooked and spiced to perfection and not swimming in oil. Can’t recommend this place enough and after 20 years, this restaurant continues to innovate and provide Starbeck with a truly fantastic eatery.

This is my local Indian restaurant and my favourite. The food is always spot on and the staff helpful and friendly! It isn't a huge place so can get cosy but that all adds to the atmosphere!

Called in here for the first time last Friday couldn’t believe how busy it was and we hadn’t booked ! However the staff were very helpful and managed to get us a table .

Have been numerous times, never been disappointed, beats any other Indian restaurant in Harrogate. The staff are always friendly, efficient and helpful. The menu is extensive, with the usual selection of curries, but also chef's specialities and authentic Indian cuisine. There is a good selection of wines and Indian beers to try, the house red wine is a lovely Merlot which takes some beating. No wonder they keep winning so many awards!

Entered the restaurant and asked if they be able to make something that was off menu (due to dietary requirements). Advised that they could, so was shown to a table.

We visited on a Saturday evening it was pretty busy and had a good atmosphere. We had Popadoms with pickles which was very nice. Starbeck Special starter shared which was excellent. We had four different main courses all excellent. The service was really good. Overall we had a nice evening with great food.

Always excellent. We have been going for years, and never had a bad meal. I have recently had to avoid Dairy, and they couldn’t be more helpful. Great with kids meals, and all food was delicious as usual. Staff are friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go again.

Starbeck Tandoori is just lovely. The food is wonderful, of course, but, moreover, the service is gentle and warm and relaxed. You come away feeling really looked after and wondering why all restaurants can’t do the same simple things so effortlessly. Curry house of the year: 2018!

Had a surprise party thrown for myself by my lovely daughters family and friends. The restaurant were amazing allowing pictures to be stuck on the walls, speeches finding a vase for flowers and giving me chocolates and wine. Great friendly service and very good food, their help and joining in, bringing out a homemade cake with sparklers helped to make it a joyful time for us all .

This was our second visit to this lovely little restaurant, the food and service is excellent and also very good value. Will certainly be going again in the near future.

Came here tonight with my boyfriend after reading good reviews on Trip advisor. The food was amazing! Poppadoms fresh, massive pickle tray, beautiful chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. I have tried so many Indians around Yorkshire and this was up there with the best. The staff were lovely especially a young waiter who couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be returning! Friendly staff, lovely food with lots of choice. They help you with your choice of food if you can't decide and no rush to eat just enjoy the atmosphere and always in the top 3 places to eat in Harrogate

Went for a meal with inlaws before our wedding and the food was cooked to perfection. All fresh and so tasty. The staff were brilliant too, never rushed us or made us feel like we needed to hurry up. Truly one of my favourite places to eat in Harrogate. Can not recommend this place high enough. We even got a little wedding gift from them which was a great day be! Thanks for a great night.

Food was clearly freshly cooked to order. I had a chicken jalfrezi which was nicely spiced. Service also efficient. Would go again. Our friends who live in Harrogate recommended it to us.

Just bland boring food. It really tastes like it was straight out of a Pataks jar. Far too expensive for what you got! Only giving a 2 out of 5 as the bread was good!

Local Indian and very good food but just felt too expensive. Nan breads were smaller popadoms five pound , well £4.95 for four which seems ridiculous. Wine not very good quality . Lovely staff and food is always good but we will be going elsewhere now.

Once again we have returned to our favourite Tandoori and are impressed as ever. The owner kindly arranged to cook a little very mild coconut based curry of which was very tasty and well received. One thing that caught my eye was the slogan on the takeaway menu (see picture). Don’t waste you’re money on other places, come here - top quality food and service but without central Harrogate prices

We have always enjoyed our takeaway from here, even though i have never sat and eaten in restaurant, the atmosphere always seems really nice. They are friendly as you order and wait and its good value. We ordered on New Years eve and the wait wasn't too long, i have been known to wait an hour but because the food is tasty its worth the wait, i had tandoori mixed grill and it was really tasty and probably the best i have had. The chicken wasn't dry and neither was the lamb/ chicken tikka. I would recommend the Balti dishes on the specials too. Will be going again and can understand them being voted top curry house, its worth a visit but would recommend booking if you want to sit in and eat.

We stayed at Rudding Park and were bored of modern English style food therefore we wanted to taste something spicy and tasty indian food and this is the place we found right way . Excellent taste of authentic Indian curry and the best service. I’m proper Indian foody and I acknowledge the taste they serve on the plate . Brilliant !

I like Indian food and I like it even better when it’s well cooked. First time I’ve been to this restaurant and it was very good. I am a vegetarian and there was plenty of choice, which is nice. I will definitely come again.

A lovely atmosphere, nice, clean and cosy - there was five of us and we were sat comfortably. Welcoming waiter, although he was on his own.

Half hour ago just picked up a takeaway from this restaurant. There 6 of us eatting it. It is the worst meal we have ever had. The rice was hard. The Korma was green. The bread was like cardboard. The chips looked like they had been fried over and over again. We rang the restaurant to complain and we got spoke to extremely rudely and very off hand staying they had been there for years and it was clearly our problem. I would like everyone to know this is the worst takeaway in Yorkshire and stay clear of it. And how they managed to get a 4 and half star I do not know.

We went here in July 17 and it had awesome food. A great family run restaurant with faboulous authentic food and excellant service.

This restaurant has recently won another award for being one of the best curry houses in the area, and the award is well deserved. Service was as friendly as ever and the curries were all very good.The side dishes were also good and I highly recommend the lemon rice which, in addition to the normal flavouring from lemon juice, also had little pieces of tangy lemon peel that really made a difference (and something I will try at home).

Called this spot as we made a last minute decision for six of us to eat dinner here on a Monday evening.They said we didn't need to book, but would hold a table for us anyway - nice touch.There was only our party & another four who were about to leave, but I had to call the waiter over to even take our drinks order.Food was slow to arrive, particularly strange due to them being so quiet, but was good.I'd recommend that the waiter needs to learn to smile once in a while...

Wanted to try this restaurant because of good reviews it has.I Was disappointed food was just average,and i have never had burnt poppadoms before cannot understand why they did not throw them in the bin. the rice was watery and tasteless,will not be going back

My, our, favourite curry house!! Often visiting once a week! The service is great, always greeted with a smile. A great range on the menu, although I do tend to choose the same thing each time! I love to sample everyone's curry & have yet to find a dish that's not nice. The naan bread are large enough to share, a good chip portion size too of you're a yorkshire/northern UK curry eater! The mixed kebab starter is a no brainer! You will leave stuffed, I often get rolled out of here due to enjoying my meal too much! It can get quite busy on Thursdays & Fridays. I would recommend to book a table if there a large group. It's only a small restaurant, but they always manage to seat you comfortably (not too close to other guests) The service & food are second to none!

We had a booking at another Indian in knaresborough but when we arrived we were let down on our reservation, we called around a few different places in knaresborough but they were all closed for a sit down meal. The guys at starbeck tandoori invited us late at night on a Monday and served us with fantastic customer service skills !! The food was amazing too I'm so glad we were let down it lead us to this wonderful place, they even boxed out left overs up to take home. It's the little things that count !! We will definitely be visiting again

Been going here since they opened in 1999 and it still is the best. Great quality and if you want something different to what's on the menu they will cook it! Not at all like an awful chain restaurant. If you want a great curry don't waste your money going into Harrogate, go here!!

16 of us pre-booked for an early meal (we usually go as a couple). The varied menu meant that everyone could enjoy what they ordered and the friendly staff took good care of us.

It was our second time at the Starbeck Tandoori and the food was as fantastic as ever. Everything is cooked totally fresh and tastes really clean and delicious. Service is also very friendly. Top notch!!

We went with friends who adore the place. Sorry but I was not converted.The poppadums were thick and not very flavoursome. The accompaniments did not appeal either. The mixed starter was just awful, overcooked and lacking in spices to add flavour. I had a makhani as the main - a personal favourite test dish - but what I got was NOT any makhani I would recognise, and I do not like sauces that have the consistency of porridge and stand up all on their own. The accompanying tarka dahl was however very toothsome. Back to dear old Manhester and our trusted favourites, I'm afraid!

The greetings are genuine, the surroundings are cosy and the food is to die for. The mutton Shali was as tender as a kiss and just as exciting. The chicken tikka jalfrezi was full of colour, flavour and smelled and tasted Devine. This is a must visit restaurant, serving lush dishes at great prices.

For some reason it has been a while since we ate here and I must say that it is nice to be back. This small restaurant continues to punch well above its weight and leaves much larger and grander premises in its wake.We had one of the special dishes, a mutton archaree, and it was absolutely lovely. We also had a chicken tikka Madras and side dishes of special,rice, bhindi bhaji and tandoori roti and all were very good. Portions were generous and the service was friendly and good.The Starbeck Tandoori lives up to its reputation of probably being the best curry house in the Harrogate and Knaresborough area.

This restaurant/ takeaway offers a great range of Indian food. All the classics are there, but there are other different dishes that are worth exploring. Good value and friendly staff.

I lived in Starbeck for a number of years and visited this place on a regular basis, since it's opening I think about 18 years ago.I still return maybe once or twice a year to take my daughter out who still lives in the area.The food is as good, if not better now then it was when it first opened, the same guy front of house who is very friendly, never forgets a face, but not over intrusive.This is a great little unpretentious restaurant, with fantastic freshly cooked food to order.

Always made welcome food always hot and well presented, loads of choice at a reasonable price.Can get busy so it is always best to book.

Girlie meet up , we were seated and served our drinks ,we then ordered popodums and pickle tray and onion bhajis to all share, all we're really tasty ,everyone enjoyed their main meals ,chicken shali ,gost thali 3 small mixed meals ,chicken korma,a mushroom dish and I got a mixed meat shashlick ,was really nice atmosphere and staff friendly and helpful .

Visited on a Friday evening with a group of friends, some who had eaten here before. It was busy so there was a good buzz about the place. Food was delicious, plates were hot (which my Nan always said was the sign of a good restaurant) and they were more or less all clean by the time we'd finished. I've lived in the area a while now and as we've weaned our kids onto Indian cuisine I'll definitely be back.

My family and friends visited to celebrate my husbands birthday, it is necessary to book as the restaurant was busy.We enjoyed the wide range of Indian food on offer and they can prepare combinations that are not on the menu. My family love Indian food and are very particular, we ordered a range of dishes and breads with our curry, all were delicious! We do visit this restaurant on a regular basis and it had recently won a local food award, which is well deserved.

The standard of service and food is second to none and is very consistent.Great choice of dishes which suit every taste.We're so lucky this restaurant is a team minute walk down the road!

First discovered the Tandoori about six years ago, and we've never loved Indian cuisine more since the day we first dined there. Situated opposite the St. Andrews Church in Starbeck, the curry house offers delicious cuisine and a wide variety of curries for very reasonable prices, ranging from the traditional chicken tikka Massala to the infamous lamb vindaloo. Only downside is the fact the freezer is hardly every working, so customers cannot really experience how tasty the Kulfi is!

Visited again with family. The food as always was delicious and very tasty. They were very kind to my granddaughter and she enjoyed her curry. The service was very professional and an enjoyable evening was had by us all.
